DPM 2010 to DPM 2012R2 configuration transfer failure

Hello,
I’m doing a side by side upgrade from DPM 2010 to DPM 2012R2 and I’m trying to transfer my configuration with
Ruud Baar's PS scripts DPMsaveConfig and DPMcreateConfig.
On the new DPM 2012R2 box, when I run DPMcreateConfig it fails.
Here is the end of the log:

Hi Buchatech,
Nope, I haven't tried the updated script.  I completed the migration manually 9 months ago.
Thanks,
Ivan
Ivan
Ok. I knew this was an old thread. I thought I would respond anyway to make sure you figured it out. I do know that the updated script does not error out on SCDPM 2012 R2.

  • Unable to backup file server with DPM 2012R2

Hello. I've got some strange problem file backing up a file service with DPM 2012R2.
    File server - Windows 2012 R2
    DPM server - Windows 2012 R2 with DPM 2012 R2
    DPM storage - IBM DS3524
The backup lasts for about 11 hours, transfers about 1,7 TB (full file share size is about 11TB) and stops with event 104 ID  (The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)).
    In DPM log I see:

I've assigned the letter to the drive to which DPM was backing up, found the last file (the size was 0) and copied this file from the source without any problem.
This problem occurred several times with different storages for replica. Unfortunately previous logs went away so I cannot say that it stopped on the same file, but the error "Data corruption near MTF DBLK" was the same.
When the file server was on Windows 2008 R2 and DPM was 2012 SP1 there were no problems with backup.

    Hi,
This is a known issue and is actively being investigated for a fix.

  • Restore of virtual machine with checkpoints W2012 R2 DPM 2012R2

    Hi
We have some windows 2012 R2 hyper-v standalone hosts where we running a loads of VMs on.
We backing them up with DPM 2012 R2 with "hyper-v virtual machines backup"
We have some training machines that was getting corrupted and we need to restore then, is it possible to restore the machines and include
     the checkpoints?
When I was trying to restore the vhdx that are C: DPM also restored 2 avhdx files that I suppose is the checkpoint files, but then I then create t new VM from the vhdx the checkpoints do not
    pops up.
    I know that in W 2008 R2 hyper-v and DPM 2012 SP1 it was not possible.
But is it possible now with Hyper-v 2012 R2 and DPM 2012R2?
    thank

Just for information, it is possible to restore VMs and retain checkpoints. I find out how to do that now.
Will you share what you found out or post a link to a blog/article etc?

    Appreciate your help.

I can make a pretty good guess on this one having seen the situation occur many times before.
UCCX is not aware of, and doesn't really understand, the partitions and call search spaces on CUCM.  When you do a select resource step, and attempt to send the call to the agent, the UCCX server will basically do a switch hook flash type supervised transfer to transfer the call to the agent.
When the transfer attempt is made, the CTI port that the caller is queued on will attempt to outdial to the agent's extension.  It assumes that the agent phone is reachable, but has no way to verify this.
If the agent extension cannot be reached as a destination using the calling search space assigned to the CTI port, the transfer will fail.  The agent will likely get stuck in a reserved state, or maybe even made not ready by the system.  You can validate this by opening the dialed number analyzer in CUCM, and use the analyze function to dial the agent extension using the CSS assigned to your CTI ports.
Every time I've seen this problem over the years, the above issue was the problem.  Check it out and see if it doesn't solve your issue.
    Good luck!

    Appreciate your comments.

    Good luck!

  • DPM (2012R2 ur 4) Azure Online recovery point creation fails

    HI,
I am using SCDPM 2012 R2 UR4 to backup some files on premise. I created a backup vault - installed the Azure Agent on DPM (registered it), I downloaded the Azure Backup Vault credential file and provided it during registration process (it showed the correct
subscription and region) and configured online backup.
The backup to azure fails with Windows Azure Backup Agent cannot connect to the OBEngine service.
I already re-started the service - no problem. No firewall locally - not sure what ports are required on outgoing company firewalls (didn't see anything in the documentation). I also created a new backup vault in azure and did the same procedure again. But
the result is the same. Please does someone have any other ideas?

    Hi,
Are there any events in the application event log after the failure ?
Can you look in the CBEngineCurr.errlog in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent\Temp directory after the failure and see if you can find an error that will point you in the right direction.

  • What is the best way of creating a one-time backup using DPM 2012R2?

    Hello,
Due to some severe tape issues, we have lost a lot of our long-term storage data.
I schedule a recovery point on our servers every Friday, once a week.  We retain this data for the 64 weeks (the maximum amount of versions DPM allows.)
Management needs me to put one recovery point from each month to tape (preferably from the beginning of each month.)
From the DPM console, I have been manually searching each server and running a recovery job from each "short term" recovery point we still have in the system.   I am recovering this data to a large disk array that I'm using as a staging
area.  My intention is to take this data and put it onto tape using DPM and leave it there forever (20 years.)
Since the space on the array is limited, I can only recover a few months at a time before having to delete the recoevered data to make way for the next group.
The way DPM works it seems you must have a protection group for every backup job you run;  so if I have to repeat this process 8 times, I'll end up with 8 different protection groups all assigned to the host running the staging array.  NOTE:
the host running the staging array will be wiped in the near future.
What would be the best method to carry this task out ?
This forum post is similar, but doesn't address all these additional groups created:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f379740c-4507-4a82-b275-c95e3e968b57/dpm-2012-r2-perform-one-time-backup?forum=dataprotectionmanager
    Any assistance would be welcome!

    Hi,
What you can do is protect the staging server by using a single share - lets call it STAGING for simplicity.
Perform your first set a restores and restore to the staging share, you can create meaningful subdirectories one for each data source you are restoring.
Now protect the STAGING share using DPM - protect using long term to tape only, Frequency yearly, and set retention policy for 20 years.
Perform an ad-hoc backup (right-click the data source and create recovery point to tape)
When that completes, delete the sub-directories under the staging share and then repeat the process of restoring more data then backing up the same share.  When you are all done, you can remove the protection group, but maintain the tape backups
so they will be available for restores.

  • Protection of Exchange 2012 SP1 DAG with DPM 2012R2 not working - Replica is Inconsistent

We are struggling to get DPM 2012 R2 to protect our Exchange 2013 SP1 DAG, and receiving the error "Replica is inconsistent". I have copied the current versions of eseutil.exe and ese.dll to the DPM servers, and the DPM agent is the latest version
    on the Exchange boxes.
    The sanitised error is:
    Affected area: Database123
    Occurred since: 10/11/2014 11:39:02
Description: The replica of Exchange Mailbox Database Mailbox Database123 on <servername> is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check.
You can recover data from existing recovery points, but new recovery points cannot be created until the replica is consistent.
For SharePoint farm, recovery points will continue getting created with the databases that are consistent. To backup inconsistent databases, run a consistency check on the farm. (ID 3106)
Data consistency verification check failed for LOGS of Exchange Mailbox Database Mailbox Database123 on <servername>. (ID 30146 Details: The extended attributes are inconsistent (0xFF))
     More information
Recommended action: Either the database files are corrupt or the proper versions of the Eseutil.exe and Ese.dll files are missing.
If you have recently upgraded your Exchange server, copy them from that server to the DPM server.Contact your Exchange server administrator, and then verify the issue. You can recover the last known good backup to address the corrupted state.
     Synchronize with consistency check.
Run a synchronization job with consistency check...
Resolution: To dismiss the alert, click below
     Inactivate
Running a synchronization job with consistency check does not work and we end up back to the same error. Circular logging is not enabled.
We are starting an upgrade of Exchange 2007 to 2013 and the DAG has little in it yet, and the Exchange 2007 environment is being backed up by a different product that we are moving away from.
    Any suggestions welcome
    Mark

    Hi,
Has any testing been done with the
option to run Eseutil on the backup not enabled via the DPM GUI when creating protection, and identifying if DPM reports the same error?
    Also
with Eseutil enabled I recommend reviewing the below links which, may assist with the issue being faced. The first link aligns with the error reported (ID
30146). The second outlines high level overview for protecting Exchange 2013.

  • Missing Recoverable Items DPM 2012R2

DPM Protection Group shows  that a specific folder on a drive being backed up is being backed up. No alerts that the protection group is failing. (all green) However the specific folder does not show up when trying to restore it. All files and
folders are available for restore above it. Any clues to, one, why this may be happening, and two, how to get the files and this folder to be backed up? (not listed in exception rules)
    Thanks in advance.

Interesting, I did a restore from the directory above and the 'Archive" directory did restore. I wouldn't say this is a major bug, but something that should be fixed.

  • Issue Installing DPM 2012R2 UR2

I'm having issues installing the DPM 2012 R2 UR2 re-release and I wanted to share my experience.  When I first attempted to install the update last week, it failed.  Shame on me, I didn't make a backup of the DPM database before the upgrade and
DPM would not start after the attempted update install (DPM service wouldn't start.)  Long story short, after about a day of troubleshooting, I gave up, did a complete reinstall and was able to retrieve a somewhat recent version of the database from tape.
I restored, synched that database and was back in business, but hadn't attempted the UR2 update again.
Fast-forward to today.  Unfortunately, our server was set to automatically install updates, so the UR2 update tried to install itself last night.  It failed, and the same problem occurred...DPM wouldn't start.  This time, however, I found
a blog from a couple years ago mentioning very similar behavior to what I was experiencing (though not after an update).  In their case, the SQL database had somehow gotten switched to Single User mode.  On a whim I checked our database and indeed
it was set to "Single User" mode.  I changed it to Multi-User and everything came back normally.  I'm sure this was the case in my first upgrade attempt, but I never caught it.
I'm posting this in case anyone else happens to run into this issue.   I have no idea why the database mode changed, but changing the database mode to Multi-User saved me a ton of time.  Here's a link where I got the information:
    http://www.sherr.co.uk/dpm-2012-fails-with-event-id-7034-the-dpm-service-has-terminated-unexpectedly-it-has-done-this-x-times/
Still need to do the UR2 update but obviously I'm gun shy.

    Hi
RU3 is available now, why dont you try updating to that rollup?

  • DPM 2012R2 - Unable to install agent on trusted domain

    Hi,
I'm pretty sure I'm not the first to ask this question, but couldn't find the solution anywhere.
Just completed the installation of DPM2012R2 and I'm trying to install\attach agents on the computers from the list.
Every single computer is returning me the same error: 322,
The following computers <computerame> were not found in Active Directory Domain Services, or they do not have a Windows Server operating system installed.
Which is weird since I'm logged in as domain admin and was able to access all the hosts under my active directory domain with no problem.
    Any hints?

    Hi,
    Few things to try:-
    1. Temporary disable Windows firewall between DPM and target server
2.Try add the credential that you use to push DPM agent to each local server-Local Administrator Group.
3.On DPM server server, make sure can resolve FQDN of the target server and able to ping them.
4.Next, depend on your target server, you may need to install some pre-requisite software/ update.

  • Sharepoint 2010 on Windows 2012R2 and claims based authentication

    Hello,
We have installed a sharepoint 2010 SP2 CU dec 2014 on a Windows 2012R2 server.
    The installation went without problems.
However, we want to use claims based authentication on a certain web app pool.
Therefore some configuration on IIS is required.
The first issue we ran into, is the web application pool uses ASP.NET 2.0, which is the default settings.
However, using this ASP.NET Version 2.0 the feature "Providers" and ".net users" are invisible.
When changing the .net version to 4.0, the features comes back again.
I can fill in the connection strings without problem.
The providers feature however, gives me the following errors:
There is a duplicate .... sections defined.
When googling on this error, it seems that on .net 4.0 these sections are already globbally defined in the machine.config, So i removed these entries in the machine.config
These are the lines that are "double"
    <section name="scriptResourceHandler" type="System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingScriptResourceHandlerSection, System.Web.Extensions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" requirePermission="false"
    allowDefinition="MachineToApplication"/>
    <section name="jsonSerialization" type="System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingJsonSerializationSection, System.Web.Extensions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" requirePermission="false" allowDefinition="Everywhere"
    />
    <section name="profileService" type="System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingProfileServiceSection, System.Web.Extensions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" requirePermission="false" allowDefinition="MachineToApplication"
    />
    <section name="authenticationService" type="System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingAuthenticationServiceSection, System.Web.Extensions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" requirePermission="false"
    allowDefinition="MachineToApplication" />
So after removing these lines, i can get into Providers feature in IIS.
but, when i click on "Add..." i get the following error:
    Add Provider
There was an error while performing this operation.
    Details:
This method cannot be called during the application's pre-start initialization phase.
    OK
I spent to much time already to solve this issue and i hope  that someone can give me some advice to address this issue.
