Dreamweaver CS3 Hidden Template Help

Hello I am new to these forums and would appreciate any help I can get. Ok here's the issue.
I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 to work on a website that was created from a template. Everything was going fine until I did something and now the template doesn't display in the design view of dreamweaver. It will render perfectly fine in the browser, and when i pull up the corresponding .dwt file the layout is there. I can still see my editable regions and the content within. It just won't display in dreamweavers design view of the page that it is linked to.I'm sure i just unchecked some list item that displays this I'm just not sure where or how I did it.
Please let me know if you need me to post any of my code etc. Thank you for your time and help it is much appreciated.
Thank you, JRED

Ok so in the end I shutdown Dreamweaver and restarted it and it fixed my problem.
Computers and computer programs occasionally get tired/confused, just like humans. Closing down and restarting often does the trick.
Since you're new here, you might take a few moments to look at the Dreamweaver FAQ. The answers to some of the most common problems can be found there.

  • Dreamweaver CS3: One Template, Multiple Sites

We have about 40 sites with the same basic layout, but it's
always a hassle to update the templates because we have to do it 40
times! Is there any possible way to use the same template for
multiple sites so that updates will be much easier? We are just
using regular HTML pages, nothing in PHP or the like.

Trying to apply a template site-wide would be a catastrophe -
    that's
probably why there isn't an extension to do it....

  • PLEASE HELP - Problem with 2 column fixed template in Dreamweaver CS3

I am trying to create a website using the 2 column fixed, right sidebar, header and footer html template in Dreamweaver CS3.  I tried putting a picture in the right side bar as well as with in the main content or left portion of the page, and neither picture is showing up when I view it in any of the browsers I'm using.
I've made some minor changes in colors and sizing, but other than that no other changes.  The pic I put in for the header is showing up just fine though.
Any help or advice to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!

Here is the base Dreamweaver code including the pic references that I'm trying to show on either side - when the browser opens, it only shows a blank space where the pics should be... let me know what you think.  Thanks!!

  • How do I create a guestbook in Dreamweaver CS3, Plz Help....

Hi I want to create a guestbook in dreamweaver cs3 my website is www.freewebzs.com
Also it would be brilliant if you guys could help me and recommend me background colours, is there a free website I can get background colours from?
And also what fonts and colours are most popular for websites.
Im new to dreamweaver as ive just started using it so any advice would be great, thanks

I have to agree with David, if you are new to DW, then creating a guest book will be difficult for you.  However, you don't have to re-invent the wheel, there are many guestbook scripts available to save you the time and certainly the headaches  :-)
Take a look here for a selection:  http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Guestbooks/
    As for colours kuler is good, but you can also look at;
    These palettes may help:

    More colour schemes here:

For fonts, you are better staying with web-safe fonts that will ensure cross browser compatibility:

When i save a new template in Dreamweaver CS3 and then try to preview in IExploer it asks me "do you wnat to open or save this file? when i select either it reverst to my old MS Front Page editor

    From their website:
" Adobe Flash (version 8 or higher) is required to edit the

Do you own Flash? Are you familliar with action scripts? If
    not, then you
probably want to start with a plain html template and learn
    how to code html
and CSS. Flash sites look nice but they are not friendly for
    Search Engines
or users who don't have flash player installed on their

  • Need help creating a simple form in Dreamweaver CS3!!

I'm trying to create a form in Dreamweaver CS3, and while I have the form built I'm confused as to how to make it actually function.  What I'm trying to do is create a form that when the visitor clicks submit, the data is emailed to me.  Can someone help me figure out how to accomplish this?
    Thanks so much!

Ute's answer is spot on - you need a FormMail script to process the form.  Check with your host (or via the control panel) and see if they supply such a form for free.
If not, google for "formail script' and you'll find quite a few available - all free to use.
You just need to add a couple of lines to your html code, change a few things in the formmail script and the form will process.  Sounds complicated but most scripts come with a help file to help you get off the ground.

  • Dreamweaver CS3 Template

    I'm using Dreamweaver CS3. I use a template that I've always
been able to make changes and automatically update the pages that
use it on save. I've made some changes to the template, but when I
go to update all the pages using that template it says:
    Done.
    files examined: 1183
    files updated: 0
files which could not be updated: 0
    total time: (0:00:02)
Nothing is updated. I have a large site to update and am in
    desperate need of help.
    Thanks!!

Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes
    not propagating
    from Template to child -
    1. Rename the Templates folder
    2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in
    the site other
    than root level
    3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
    4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which
    will not
    propagate)
    5. Assume that template changes can be uploaded to the server
    without also
    uploading the changed local files
    6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template
    and child page
    is broken
7, Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the
    template,
adding page specific content, and resaving the template with
    an *.html
extension rather that its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if
    this is the case
by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything
    like <!--
TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done). If
    you *have
done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DWCS3) using
    FILE | New > Page
from Template, select the template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced >
    Recreate Site
Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing
    them. Have you
    done any of those?

I need to create my project that will work also in ipad and the new cellphones?  I'm using Dreamweaver CS3, and already almost done with the project when I was asked to have this new parameter - the site has to be responsive to these devices.  Will the template in Dreamweaver CS3 work with these devices?  I don't currently have these devices to test.  How could I test them.  If not, any suggestions... Any help, please....

Unfortunately, CS3 predates the "responsive design" concept by a few years. You can still make responsive designs using it, but it requires more knowledge of handcoding the CSS/HTML. If you look into Media Queries and Responsive Design online, there are quite a few sources that give you the info you'll need. Depending on your level of comfort with CSS and HTML, they may be a great help, or a confusing mess.
    http://www.lynda.com is a good resource
As for previewing things for smaller devices, Firefox has a nice little thing built in for that...
Tools > Web Developer > Responsive Design View (Ctrl + Shift + M).

  • DreamWeaver CS3 Web Photo Gallery Help

I bought the Adobe Web Design package to put together a good
(hope springs eternal) Web site to showcase about 60 oil paintings
that are presently available at different poster sites. I am a
novice to DreamWeaver; started my basic web page. I now need to add
the photos in 6 different galleries - landscapes, waterscapes, etc.
I assumed I was going to do this in Photoshop CS3/Fireworks and
import it to the site I am building with DreamWeaver, but 2
    problems confront me:
    (1) I could not find a Photoshop CS3 photo gallery template
that allows for a text paragraph adjacent to a larger image when
clicking on thumbnails laid out on the side or the bottom of the
    page, or am I wrong?
    (2) It appears that Photoshop CS3 generates an independent
web page for the photo gallery - is it even possible to import a
photoshop cs3 web gallery into an existing DreamWeaver CS3 web
    page?
Appreciate any info in this area. Thanks.

Dunno as I do not have CS3; but I've used Photoshop a lot to
    generate
galleries, then I modify them. I think your main sticking
    point is
that you haven't found a Photoshop gallery that is close to
    what you
    want, is that correct?

What's to import? Photoshop outputs web pages and DW edits
    web pages.
    Edit away.

  • CF8 Help in Dreamweaver CS3

Does anyone know how to configure Dreamweaver CS3 to show CF8
help when I hit F1 while I have a CF tag highlighted?

Never used CF Studio or HomeSite so I don't know how they
worked. Perhaps you can explain more about what you're actually
    like to have happen.
There is the CF8 updater extension for Dreamweaver (for CS3
    and CS4):
    http://www.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/downloads.html
Which adds a new menu item on the Help menu which goes to:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/coldfusion/
Adobe is moving toward online help, but they tend to have
PDFs available of their docs which the above link offers.

  • DW 8 Templates in Dreamweaver CS3

    Greetings,
I am currently working with a Dreamweaver template (Version
    8) and I have recently installed Dreamweaver CS3 to check it out. I
wanted to update several pages with the updated template in CS3,
but when I tried, I got an error related to nested editable
regions. I checked out my code, and cleaned it up (it is strict
xhtml 1.0) and tried again. I didn't get the error, but none of the
pages are updated. Does somebody know why this could happen?

If you have made changes to a template page and those changes
    are not
propagated to the respective child pages then only one of two
    possibilities
    exist:
    1. Your changes were made to EDITABLE regions in the template
    files, or
    2. The site cache is corrupted, and can be fixed by using
    SITE | Advanced >
    Recreate Site Cache
Might one of those be the cause?
