Dreamweaver CS4 - Site pages disappearing

I have been using Dreamweaver CS4 since it first came out and I've created and maintain over 75 sites on the same hosting service, I also have created and maintain many sites on other hosting services. I just started having a very strange problem. This problem has happened with one site that is hosted with my hosting service (Inmotion Hosting) and one site that is hosted elsewhere. Here is what happened today (this is the site that is NOT hosted with my current hosting company)
I started working on this site last week - all was going fine - simply making some changes to site text and adding new site titles and meta descriptions.
I worked on it yesterday and uploaded a couple of pages - all went fine.
I opened the site today (before I even opened Dreamweaver) and went to the site using the url - home page opened fine - I clicked on the "About Us" page and I got the following error message (just to be clear - this is the same thing that happend last week with a different site):
Not Found
The requested URL /contact_request.html was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
I opened Dreamweaver and looked at the Local / Remote view page and the page I was tring to access was showing on both the Local and Remote sides - this was NOT a page that I worked on yesterday.
I went to Google to try and see if I could find a reason why this would happen, I found one suggestion that I try to Google the site and the page name that I was trying to access and click on that link.
I did that and it worked - I also pressed Ctrl-F5 several times to make sure that I was not accessing a cached version of the page.
I went into Dreamweaver, made a couple of changes to the page, uploaded it and it worked fine.
I tried a few other pages in the site and found that most pages were coming up fine, some pages would give me that same "Not Found" error.
I closed the site, closed FireFox, shut down my computer, restarted everything and tried again - same problem - sometimes some of the pages will just give me a "Not Found" error - not always the same page.
If I go to Google and search the site and then click on that link - the page will open fine.
I tried contacting my hosting company and they told me that it must be a Dreamweaver syncronization issue.
Does anyone have any ideas??

These links are all 404 not found.

  • Footer displayed inaccurately in Dreamweaver CS4 php page

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from Dreamweaver 8 to Dreamweaver CS4. Our organization site uses mostly php pages. When I attempt to open these pages in Dreamweaver CS4 the footer menu bar displays innacurately down through the center of the page and won't allow any edits as it acts like a top layer or something. Usually it acts as a menu bar on the top of any page on our website.
As it should appear from an online screen shot: You'll notice the orange menu bar across the top.
A shot of the Design View in Dreamweaver CS4:  You'll see the menu options are running down the center of the page as text.

This seems like a simple solution but I'm just not sure what it would be.
    Thanks

The live view or preview functions do not work and lead to the error: "Not Found, the requested URL/html/index.php was not found on this server.'   This is another issue that I don't understand.
Unfortunately, I did not develop this website and have a minimal knowledge of html and Dreamweaver.  I'm not sure if I can answer the question about which menu system we're using - would seeing the code of the footer help?   I'll paste below in case.
And just to be clear, the problem only occurs in editing in Dreamweaver, but when uploaded to our server it appears correctly.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Losing formatting in Dreamweaver CS4 site

    Hello all! So frustrated!
I have built the rough design of a site in Dreamweaver CS4 using tables to do a lot of the formatting for a lot of information. For some reason, all of a sudden I have lost all table formatting when the site is viewed in any browser. In addition, I have lost some of my spry menu formatting (background color of menu bar) and hyperlink formatting when viewed online even though absolutely nothing looks wrong to me on the design view. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
Two examples...they are different as we are still deciding on colors:
    http://www.aldopineschiconsulting.com/index.html
    http://www.aldopineschiconsulting.com/organizations.html

All browsers will view html and css errors differently. DW Design View isn't a browser though and typically shows you something other than what will be viewed in the real browsers. You can't rely on it for giving you anything but an approximation of what your site could look like.
Always use Preview In Browser to see your actual page in the various browsers. IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera are the minimums I test for on Desktops. I test iOS Safari and Android for mobile by putting everything on a local test server and accessing it via WiFi with a couple of phones (since every emulator I've seen so far has been just as bad as DW's Design View).
HTML and CSS errors are a major cause of display problems/differences between the various browsers/versions/platforms. You should become very familiar with the validators. In addition to the one already given, here is the CSS validator: http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Site creation puts unwanted folders from desktop into File Panel Window

Dreamweaver CS4: My root folder is on the desktop, and everytime I create a new site, inside the Site in the Files Panel it has my folders/files on my desktop in addition to my root folder. How do I prevent this and just have ONLY my project folder in my site folder?
    L Sienna

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Your Desktop is just a folder, but it's not like any other folder on your HD. The more "crap" you keep on it, the slower your system will run, because Windows Explorer (not the browser - the one that opens and manages all of your windows) interacts with it ALL THE TIME so the more stuff it has to go through to run DW, or Photoshop or Windows Media Player or whatever, the bigger the drag on WIndows. The same for Mac OS X and FInder.
Put your site(s) in their own folder in your documents where the most active folder on your HD doesn't have to constantly update with every letter you type in a page.

  • Need help importing Dreamweaver CS4 site to CS6

I created a website for a friend in CS4 some years ago, and pretty much stopped using Dreamweaver. Then I changed computers and upgraded Adobe to CS6.  Now she wants a change, but her site no longer appears in Dreamweaver. I neglected to export the settings before upgrading (doh!) Any suggestions? What was the original site written in, just plain html? or a server language like php.
When you say you can't find the passwords was the site password protected?

  • Dreamweaver cs4, site management does not recognize image directory

I have recently downloaded trial version. When I was trying to set up local site with site management tool, it somehow keep failing to recognize the image folder within. So I go to advance setting of edit and assign local root folder C:\favdoo\MyTheme\
then I try to assign Default image folder which IS in the MyTheme folder, it dow not show up in the browser and even if I manually type in, gives me error message "there are not image file". I have checked rebooted, clear cache, but still does not recognize image folder. ????? Can anyone please help? It drives me crazy before I even start using dreamweaver.

got it, needed to create images directory to associate with actual file......how I supposed to know that?

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Site-Definition

Keinen Plan. Könnte durchaus eines dieser kleinen Kompatibilitätsprobleme sein...

  • Preview versus Real View Not the Same, Site Definition Errors - Dreamweaver CS4

I am having trouble working on sites where it seems that Dreamweaver wants me to specify different file locations for various "includes" depending on whether I want to view the site as a preview (F12) vs. on a local test server vs. on the real website server.  Note I am using Dreamweaver CS4 (ver. 10) on Windows, my local test server is Apache running via an Xampp installation on Windows, and my production server is also Apache, running at Hostgator.  I am building a fairly basic html site using SSI via SHTML files, rather than PHP or a more sophisticated method.  Here is what seems to be happening:
    1.  In my index.shtml file I call, for example, a subheader file called "header-nosub-menu.inc.htm."  I have my site definitions set to "relative to document root."  Using the insert -> SSI command, Dreamweaver links to the file with the following: My first problem is that, as specified, the subheader.menu.inc.htm file is not found and the preview gives me an error.  I get the same error if i try to display the file on my local test server (http://localhost/domainname).  However, if I upload the file to my production server, it seems to work fine.  If I change the include command to: #include virtual="./includes/subheader.menu.inc.htm," by manually inserting the "./" to change the directory reference, then the file seems to work in all three situations  Which is the correct directory specification, and why is Dreamweaver not generating it automatically?
While I can make the manual changes in the directory specifications, I am concerned that if Dreamweaver is making an error in this instance, it may generate more serious problems that are harder to find later.
    2. The second issue seems to involve the Site Definition file configuration.I get an error message when I set up my site definition in what seems to be the correct way, specifically, using the following specifications:
    Local Root folder:  "C:\htdocs\domainname-dev\"
    http address:   "http://www.domainname/"
    testing server folder:  "C:\htdocs\domainname-dev"
    url prefix:  "http://localhost/domainname-dev"
The error message is: "The site url prefix for the testing server does not match the site url prefix specified in the http address for the site."
However, when I change the testing server url prefix to one that does not yield an error message ("http://localhost") I then have problems with the preview (F12) display.  Specifically, instead of a preview request generating the following url: "http://localhost/domainname-dev/TMPm393xnclqu.shtml" I find that it generates the following: "http://localhost/TMPm393xnclqu.shtml"  The so called incorrect definition seems to be the correct one, but  why is Dreamweaver not recognizing it as such?  Am I making a error somewhere else in my configuration?
I would appreciate any assistance that anyone here can provide,
    Thanks,
    http://localhost/

except for the Apache virtual host configuration, which I do not see a need for
I wasn't suggesting that you use virtual hosts (although I have defined about 50 virtual hosts on my own development machine). I was trying to understand the url you listed:
    http://www.domainname/
Without a virtual host definition, that would have no meaning and could not point to anything, unless you simply were leaving off the TLD in the example. (.com, .net, etc)
I often use the PHP $_SERVER superglobal to define paths and handle differences between the development environment and the remote server environment. Examples:
    DOCUMENT_ROOT: D:/ZendServer/Apache2/htdocs/website/ranch (machine path)
    REQUEST_URI: /topic/calendar (url parameters)
    SCRIPT_NAME: index.php
HTTP_REFERER: (the url of the script preceding the current script)
HTTP_HOST: (this is the domain name. It is very useful for distinguishing between the local and remote environments)
    COMPLETE EXAMPLE:
    echo "<p><a class='noPrint' href='".$_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']."'>RETURN TO PREVIOUS PAGE</a></p>";

  • Dreamweaver CS4- I can't get my site to display the proper image.

I have a Dreamweaver CS4 Template with an editable area for a header image. I have already assigned a new image to all the header regions but when I moved the site to the web host the pages will only display the Default header image from the template in the editable region, even though when I check the file name in the Modify Templates window it displays the proper name, but displays the wrong image.
What is wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.

Did you upload the new header image?
This one is currently being displayed.

  • Site definition settings on FTP use in Dreamweaver CS4

I work on a MackBook Pro, Mavericks OS, with Dreamweaver CS4. In filling in my settings in Site Definition dialog for local site and remote site, sometimes doing a Test I get the message that I am connected, but when I try to upload through Put arrow in Files Window I get the message "FTP error occurred cannot make connection to host. Your login or password is incorrect. Check your connection information."
I do get the FTP transfer to work sometimes, but then it stops working. I have used a template to set up my pages. Could my settings using the template have something to do with it?

    Definitely not.

  • Convert DW html pages to PHP in Dreamweaver CS4

Created web pages in DWCS4 in html but discovered because I need some form pages to interact with MySQL that I should have created pages using DW PHP format. Is there a simple way to convert all html pages to php using dreamweaver CS4? OS is Win XP. Have access to hosting company with MySQL, PHP,PHPAdmin.

I would recommend against Nancy's suggestion here (and it's REALLY weird to see myself typing that).
I say it only because you are working within an existing site that likely already has links going to the .html file you are changing.
If you do a Save As and create a new .php file based on the still existing .html file, you will need to manually change the links on the pages that are currently pointing to the that .html file so they will point to the new .php file. You would need to either open the pages individually and fix the links, or use DW's Find & Replace feature and do a site-wide correction.
However, if you change the file extension from within the Files tab instead, DW will  update any pages that link to it automatically.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 and Front Page

I am rather new to Web design and editing. Currently I have Dreamweaver CS4 installed under Vista 64. Now I need to update a Web site designed in Front Page. What would you recommend as the best way to clean up the old code? Has anyone used the DW extensions (Import Front Page Site Wizard, Cleanup Front Page HTML Sitewide, Publish Web command) for DW MX2004 on Vista 64 bit?

How are you exporting? If you want a working button dirextly from FW with no other coding then export as HTML and images then in Dreamweaver Insert>Image objects>Fireworks HTML
BUT the better way is to make the button with rollovers (images will be placed in frames) export images, be sure current frame only is not checked and export. In Dreamweaver insert button then use the swap image behavior for the rollover. When you exported from Fireworks the rollover image is appended with the number 2.

  • Launch Dreamweaver CS4 and open a specific site

One of my stumbling blocks in moving from GoLive 9 to Dreamweaver CS4 is finding a way to have Dreamweaver open a specific site at launch time.  GoLive has a "name.site" file that contains site-specific information.  Double-clicking that GoLive site file launches GoLive (or switches to the running application) and makes that site the current/frontmost site.
With Dreamweaver, I can double-click a page in a site and launch Dreamweaver.  However, Dreamweaver's active site is the one that was active at the end of the last Dreamweaver session.
Is there a way to launch Dreamweaver and have it automatically open a specific site?

Say, if they do something like that for the already existing .ste files, then it might just encourage some people to export/backup their site definitions. Although I would probably never think to doubleclick one of them, that is still a good idea.

  • Playing multiple videos on the same page in Dreamweaver CS4?

Suppose on my website, I have a few dozen videos, all of them embedded YouTube videos. When the user goes to the page, Video 1 is up and ready to be played. Below Video 1 is a list of the other videos (Video 2, Video 3, and so on), each with a thumbnail picture. When the user clicks this thumbnail page, the new video is loaded (eg: if they click on the thumbnail for Video 2, Video 2 is up and ready to be played).
What do I do in Dreamweaver CS4 so the new video loads without redirecting the user to another page? With so many videos, I imagine that it isn't efficient to have a separate page for each video.

    Hi
You can do this by using an xml playlist for your videos, (do a search for "creating flash xml playlists").
