Dreamweaver Studio 8 Dropdown with CSS

When creating a dropdown menu using a client's logo in Studio
8. The menu works brilliantly in all browsers except IE5+ for the
MAC, where the images that are centered in the table move flush
LEFT as in this example.
http://www.lindaclifford.com/abc.html
If you import the code for this site into DW CS3 or DW Studio
8, you can see the lopsided effect in the Design Window.
Any ideas how to counteract this? Is the DocType throwing
this off?
Thanks
Pete

First of all I want to say thanks for your reply regarding my
post about Fireworks Quirkiness.
I agree with you about the MAC IE browser - I don't think
anyone is really using it these days.
I still think there might be a glitch in my program? I'm
running Studio8 on a MAC.
Somehow the code that is exporting the dropdown menus is
creating a glitch.
If you have any insight, I would be most appreciative.
If this is above what you do for Adobe, then don't bother
trying to figure it all out.
I may just uninstall and re-install the program to see if the
glitches disappear.
I am attaching the code for the page which links to -
http://peterelliott.biz/avidjoan.htm
Both page and CSS Style sheet code generated by FWStudio8 for
the MAC.
This results in the SOLID Blue line indicating the photo
aligns Flush Left -
http://peterelliott.biz/ajoan2.png
My client who uses the CS3 Suite doesn't see the Blue lines -
but sees the Images FLUSH LEFT -as in this shot.
http://peterelliott.biz/ajoan2.jpg
I feel certain that there is a bug somewhere that needs
fixing.
Again any help you can give would be grateful.

  • Dreamweaver cc unusably slow with CSS or Display Styles

Dreamweaver cc 2014.1.1 6982 build is so slow I can no longer use it. Running 10.10.2 on a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 iMac with 16gb and Dreamweaver has so much delay between when you click or type and something happening. I have found that if you don't use any css it is fine and if you turn off Display Styles it also speeds it up. However not having these make using dreamweaver pretty pointless.
Now going to have to go back to CS6 or use a different program completely.

A lot of people are using CC successfully.  Everyone's system is different.   Slowness can be caused by various things including but not limited to:
    network drives,
    backup software,
    anti-virus software,
    GA Tracking code,
null protocol links // to scripts on 3rd party servers like Typekit.
    Google Ads,
    CSS @import,
    code validation errors

Would this book help me learn about Spry and Ajax and how

You don't need any prior knowledge of Ajax or PHP, but you do
    need to
know the basics of HTML and CSS. As I say in the
    introduction, "You
don't need to be an expert, but you do need to have an
    inquiring mind.
It doesn't teach the basics of web design, nor does it
    attempt to list
every single feature in Dreamweaver CS3. There are plenty of
    other books
to fill that gap. However, by working through this book,
    you'll gain an
in-depth knowledge of the most important features of
    Dreamweaver."

    e-commerce sites, right?
The book provides detailed coverage of the Spry 1.4 features
    in
Dreamweaver CS3, which can be applied to any site. With minor
adaptation, you can also use Spry 1.6. It's important to
    realize,
though, that the Spry/Ajax features in Dreamweaver CS3 do
    *not* cover
asynchronous requests to the server. The ability to
    communicate
asynchronously with the server was added in Spry 1.6. If it's
asynchronous server calls and responses that you're after,
    your
programmer will need to dig around in the Spry 1.6
    documentation on the
Adobe Labs site, and hand-code it.
The Spry features covered in the book are Spry Effects, Spry
    UI widgets
(menu, accordion, tabbed panels, and collapsible panels),
    Spry
Validation Widgets, and Spry XML Data Sets.

Yes. All the Spry techniques can be used on any web page. It
    doesn't
need to be a PHP one.

  • Centering a file in the browser vertically with CSS

I remember there was an issue doing this with tables and I am
    wondering
if this is also hard to to with CSS. I would like to center a

  • Help with CSS & Firefox

Could anyone help with the query below. I posted this last
    friday but never
got a reply. The original message that i posted is also
    below. It might be
easier to read from the bottom up.
    Thanks
    James
    ----------------------------------->
    Thanks for your reply.
I've changed my code as you suggested & now the content
    div is coming about
half way down the page- so were getting somewhere. There are
    floated
elements so I have added the 'clearthefloats' div. There are
    no absolutely
positioned elements, but I tried making the content div
    position:relative
anyway but it had no effect.
I also added some text into the 'clearthefloats' div so i
    could see where it
was on the page & it is halfway down the page itself,
    even though it is
below the other elements in the page.
    Thanks,

Yes I have tried setting the height. It should wrap round the
    whole page
content not just the graphic. I tried setting the height till
    it looked
right in firefox but then in ie there was about 150px extra
    at the bottom.
(this was on another page which is a lot longer). Plus if i
    set the height
to be right on the homepage, the other pages will be wrong. I
    would have to
use seperate style sheets, or give the div's different id's.
Surely there is a way to get the div that all the contents
    are in, to simply
    wrap round them.

  • New to Dreamweaver and need help with fomatting font

Hi,  I am new to dreamweaver and have been playing with it for a few weeks.  I have Dreamweaver CS5.5 and I am making some detailed html templates for my ebay listings.  I have created my tables, graphics, and colors but I am having trouble with my font formatting.  Everything is looking really good, but there are a few sentences and even just a few phrases that I want to underline but when I add a text decloration and underline, it just underlines the whole area of sentenses not the specific one that I highlited.  I know how to create a h1, h2, h3 etc code and add underline to it, but I don't want to have to format a h1 or h2 tag everything I want to format a little line.  The reason I have been doing this is because It really is  one of the only ways I have been able to figure out how to underline something.  I watched some tutorials which is how I learned this.  I figured out in the properties Panel on bottom of page to click on the CSS rule to create certain codes and such, but I am not sure how to do this.  I tried one thing which was where it says target rule, I clicked new CSS Rule and then in then in the CSS Styles Panel on right side of screen I selected add property which I was then able to do a text decloration and underline, but it underlines many more sentenses than I am wanting or have selected.  Please help so I am able to specifically choose how to underline just a word or two, and even to have just a word or two specifiaclly be a certain font, size or color.  I am able to find ways to make this work on words as a whole, but not individual words or phrases.
Thanks for any help its really appreciated!
    Rylan

Bear in mind that an underlined word or phrase on the web means a clickable link to most people.
So, if you want to draw attention to something on screen, use anything (font size, color etc) except for an underline.
text-decoration: underline; is only used in CSS for styling clickable links. Not for regular text.
One option is to use the HTML <span> tag combined with CSS.
    CSS
    .important {
         font-size: 14px;
         color: red;
    <p>This sentence contains a really <span class="important">important</span> word</p>

  • Will Dreamweaver CS4 work properly with 10.6.1 Snow Leopard?

    Hello
Can anyone tell me please, if Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 work properly with my MacBook OS 10.6.1 Snow Leopard? Adobe state "Mac OS X v10.4.11–10.5.4" in the system requirements, but does this mean, in practise, that Dreamweaver will not work properly with Snow Leopard?
I have tried to find info about this here, but have spend ages wading through masses of complaints about various applications crashing for people after they upgraded to 10.6.1 Snow Leopard. Personally, touch wood, I've had no problems with Snow Leopard, but I only really use it for Internet surfing and word processing (my work, music stuff on Logic Pro 8, is done on my Mac Pro which came with Leopard and which I am NOT upgrading - not yet!).
I have also attempted to get an answer from Adobe - I 'phoned their "Pre-sales enquiries" number 0800 028 0148 (in the UK) and spoke to someone who sounded as if she was on the moon and who clearly had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. I gave up with them! They didn't give an email address to ask on.
I'd be very grateful if anyone can give a clear, authoritative answer please - if possible.

I've been a Mac user since 1987 and have never upgraded the OS too soon after a new version was launched. Any new OS, like new houses, will have a 'snagging list' - unforeseen problems that arise and need to be sorted before your purchase is truly habitable and functions as expected.
But the stability of OS X 10.5 paved the way for my lapse of judgement when I upgraded to Snow Panther last week, while its compatibility with some major software is still clearly too buggy.
I've been using Dreamweaver (DW) CS4 successfully on OS X 10.5 for some time. Since installing OS X 10.6.1 I now have problems with DW, which I've alerted Adobe to.
When using Design View in DW CS4, any formatted text - from html tags to css tags - disappears from the Design view. The code appears correctly in the Code window and even if you highlight text that has coding attached in Code view - eg text with a url link attached - the Design view continues to ignore it and removes the text from its view. I've discovered that my heading tags (h1, h2, etc) all make the text disappear in Design view in a way that would be the envy of members of the Magic Circle! The only thing that seems to get through is text that is surrounded by paragraph tags.
Thing is that 'Preview in Browser' shows the page correctly (except in Opera, which I've only installed since installing Snow Leopard, so I can't say how this displayed in the previous OS versions).
Also when I upload the site to the server it all seems to display more or less as it should.
So currently it seems that DW CS4's Design view is no longer WYSIWYG! Expect to find lots of text hidden in Design view and have to use Code view much more.
It would be nice to think that Apple and Adobe would talk to each other and work it out between them.
re: Dreamweaver, I'd check back to Adobe.com regularly to see when they upgrade the OS requirements to 10.6.1 (I hadn't spotted before I bought Snow Leopard that they only go up to 10.5 in their OS recommendations).
My advice if you're thinking of upgrading to Snow Panther: delay it until it more of it works compatibly with your major applications. Check the OS spec from each software manufacturer first. Meanwhile I'll just have to wait patiently for Apple & Adobe to get their act together...

  • Chart color change with CSS in DS 1.3

    Hi together,
Did somebody now a solution with CSS in the design studio 1.3, to change the color from the chart-bar or the chart-pie (like PrintScreen)? Or is this planned in the DS Version 1.4?
We found only a solution to change this setting for the chart. Not the color of the bar or pie.
We would like to set this in the CSS because it is a Style guide rule of the company.
    Best Regards
    Gabriel

Do you mean use CSS for your chart?  See response from David Gyurasz Styling a chart in Design Studio
If not I recommend searching SCN for your answer - I searched "CSS color design studio chart" and 234 searches were found.

  • DW CS3 and DW CS3 with CSS

Hello and thanks in advance for your input. Years ago I
taught myself GoLive and am now making the change to Dreamweaver
CS3. I purchased it before CS4 was released so will have to upgrade
later. My question is this: I signed up for the Lynda.com online
classes to learn CS3 and notice that there are two different
tutorial categories, CS3 dated 4-07 and CS3 with CSS dated 3-08.
Are these two different programs? I purchased the design premium
suite and it lists Dreamweaver as CS3 and does not mention "with
CSS" in the title. I am not sure which tutorial program to use to
begin building my website and because it's Sunday they are not open
today. I am anxious to get started today, so would greatly
appreciate your insight. Thanks very much.

    Thanks for your reply.
Yes, they are two different tutorials and from what you
mention, I am assuming that the more recent tutorial simply focuses
on utilizing CSS to build the site more effectively than what is
probably taught with the first tutorial. From what you said, it
seems like I should first take the CSS tutorial to get the
foundation of my site as uniform as possible and then perhaps go
back and study the basic DW CS3 tutorial to help fill in the gaps.
The reason why I am making such a big deal with asking is
because I know the laying of the foundation on a site going in is
so important. Each tutorial is about 11 hours, so I just wanted to
spend my time efficiently. Thanks for the suggestion of going the
    CSS route first.

  • Dreamweaver MX 2004 compatibility with latest versions?

Dreamweaver MX 2004 compatibility with latest versions?
I have templates in a old Dreamweaver MX 2004 and want to update my software. Will I need to go in steps to a version a few years back and then to current?  Or can I go all the way to current?
I also can't get my old dreamweaver to register anymore and they have NO support for it.  Any clues?  It is legit an I have the registration numbers and all the same but it won't take it for some reason.
thank you all for any support you can give.

HTML is HTML.  The product you use doesn't matter much except in terms of "ease of use" and quality of code it generates.  MX is a dinosaur.  Depending on how you built your sites with it, you may need to update your code to modern web standards.  But your site's code will remain editable in any version of DW.
That said, a LOT has changed in 10 years.  So if you don't have really strong coding skills in HTML and CSS, you will struggle with newer versions of DW.  The interface is different, too, so it will take some adjustment.
CS6 is the only version you can still purchase.

  • Show/Hide Div Layer with CSS (k)

Is there a way you can control the visibility of a Div Layer
    without
    Javascript? Using CSS perhaps?
Even though a small percentage doesn't have Javascript
    enabled, I need
to have something to show. In this case a webpage that has
    button when
    clicked shows a layer.
Can this be accomplished with CSS?

Clicks, to the average user's grasp of conventional wisdom,
    are permanent.
You click and something happens. We're talking about web
    pages here, not OS
controls -- so a Windows flyout menu that initializes on
    click, works on
mouseover, and closes onclick is not necessarily a good
    analogy. I would bet
a tidy sum that any focus group that did not include web
    designers would,
consensually, be confused by that page. Moreover, the
    behavior is not the
    same in all browsers.
    > ...and on top of that, it is very keyboard friendly.
    > So it is not *that* bad...
That's the only good thing - but making a page that works
    well for keyboard
users at the expense of the rest of the world is not logical.
But hell, if Kirk likes that technique, he is certainly free
    to use it. I
was just reading through this forum today and was kind of
    surprised to see
    someone recommending that technique.

  • Designing with CSS in Design View

Hey guys, I'm working on learning CSS. One problem I'm having
is that while I'm working on the code, what shows in the design
view in dreamweaver isn't the same, (not even close), to what it
looks like in any browser. For example the location of a div will
    be totally different.
It seems like it would be very hard to design this way. Why
doesn't dreamweaver attempt to reflect what it looks like in one of
the browsers. Is this just the way it is when designing with css?
If so, how the heck do people do it? Do you just have to keep
previewing the site every time you change the css?
    Using dreamweaver MX
    thanks, mike

Sadly, that's the dullest knife in the drawer. Is it DMX6.0
    or 6.1?

  • Can you enable CSS using Encore to write DLT with CSS?

    re: CSS Copy Protection
I'm posting to find out if Encore can write a DVD master with CSS 'enabled' with the CSS keys turned on for replication mastering.
It's as easy as clicking a radio button in Apple's DVD Studio Pro to write a DLT tape master with CSS enabled. We submit the DLT tape master with CSS 'enabled' to replication mastering dept. that then 'activates' the CSS keys to create a glass master and stamper with CSS copy protection. All DVD's pressed from a CSS enabled & activated stamper carry CSS copy protection on each DVD disc.
    Thank you.
    Brian alan

Yes, Encore supports CSS flags for mastering to DLT for replication.

  • Highlighting Current Page with CSS

This morning I post my first Dreamweaver/CSS site. It is for
a DVD I produced about infant massage. www.BabyBabyOhBaby.com.
What I'd like to do is highlight the current page in the
navigation bar using either a border or color change. I've found
    some sites like
    http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/journal/highlighting-current-page-with-css
but, sorry to say, I'm a beginner at both Dreamweaver & CSS and
I can't quite follow the code.
Is there some way within Dreamweaver to accomplish the
highlighting in design view without writing the code? Or perhaps
someone has some very basic elementary CSS guidance?
    Thanks for your time,
    David

  • How to overwrite styles with CSS?

I have a large number of older html documents (I use Dreamweaver CS3 Premium) that were originally built using "regular" styles. I have tried to overwrite these old styles with CSS but this doesn't work. I first delete the old styles, attach the CSS and then apply the new CSS style, but artifacts of the old style remain, such as text colour, background colour, even font size. This has become a major time problem as I have to undo each element of a style to an item before I can successfully apply the new CSS. As I have over a hundred of these files to update, this process is costing me an enormous amount of time. Surely there must be a better way to apply new styles. Any help would be much appreciated.

I’ll try to explain this problem again. The old HTML document has, for example:
    <style>
        .h1blue
        .h2blue
        .body
        .footer
So .h1blue is “Arial, Helvetica etc,” size 16 pixels, font weight bold, color #000066.
I first delete this set of styles and then attach a new CSS:
    ALPHA 210 new.css
.body [Arial, Helvetica, etc.; size 12 points, line height 16 pts]
.head1Brown [Times etc; size 18 points, font weight bold, color #663300]
When I apply .head1Brown, for example, the result is Arial 18 points rather than Times, and color #000066 (blue) rather than #663300 (brown). This means that I have to undo the font info (back to default), undo the color (to black), then reapply the style. Sometimes I have to do this 2 times or more for it to take.
