Dreamweaver very slow when opening files with external links
Is there any way to fix Dreamweaver CS5 (Windows 7, 64bit) when opening files with external references?
For example, I have a very simple CSS file, and toward the top the file has a line that says:
@import url("https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Ubuntu:500,700");
This causes the file to take around 20 seconds to open in DW. If I comment out the line or remove it, the file opens almost instantly. This behaviour is also present in files that contain an SSI.
DW often crashes before being able to open the file and I need to restart the app.
Can I disable DW from attempting to load the references?? It's obviously what is causing the issue IMO and would love to make DW workable again!
"Enable Related Files" isn't the fix for this issue. It's slightly different - I wanted to still load related files, but only the ones local to the file I was editing.
The fix was to use DW's Resolve To IP Address feature. It required adding a registry value - it fixed the issue straight away

Lion Preview and Textedit very slow when opening files from Leopard Server
My small office (about 10 users) recently upgraded our iMac's, Mac Mini's, and Macbook Pro's. We are experiencing a big problem with Preview opening super slow (1-2 minutes) when trying to open JPG's, PDF's, etc from our 10.5.8 Leopard Server. We have deleted numerous plist files related to Preview, completely deleted Preview.app from one iMac and reinstalled it via Pacifist and still no change in performance. One of the new iMac's does open much faster than the others, but we cannot figure out why this one machine works well and the others don't.
All machines are showing the below error (dozens of times) in Console when trying to open files directly from the server...
sandboxd: ([###]) Preview(###) deny system-fsctl
We have searched the internet for a solution but have not come up with anything that works. This problem exists with Textedit as well. We did try opening a file from one Lion machine to the other and it opened very fast. We also can open files very quickly from older 10.4.11 Tiger machines directly from the server. So the best we can determine right now is Lion and Leopard Server are not playing nicely together.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have pasted (one of) the console log files below for reference.

Hi,
Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing when using the type tool or when opening files with type on it. I've quit suitcase, disabled the suitcase plug-in, reset the preferences in Photoshop there's no crash report coming up either the application just dies! I am currently trying a system restore from time machine to see if that works!. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Dreamweaver CS6 hangs when opening file
Starting recently Dreamweaver CS6 hangs for 30 seconds or more, sometimes saying not responding, when I open an HTML file. It appears to do this when the file contains links to external places. To test I created a file that contained nothing except the "new HTML file" basic headers, saved the file, then opened. This test file did not hang.
I have tried the registry fix "ResolveRemoteURLToIPAddress FALSE" and deleting the personal configuration directory (with Dreamweaver closed). Neither of these solved the problem. Dreamweaver still hangs when opening a file.
Any other ideas?
Barry.Once the document opens, check the code for any protocol relative links (links that start with // rather than http://) and change them to http:// links, at least during development. It is a know issue to Adobe and will cause what you describe.
If you don't have any protocol relative links, links to third party sites can cause issues from time to time if their servers are slow or have any kind of conflict with your network. Unless you absolutely can't, you may want to copy those external scripts to your local site and link to the local versions instead, again, during development. -
Reader 9.1.0 Crashes or slow when opening files over a network
Hello all. I am having a problem with Reader 9.1. I have files that are on another computer that are accessed on other computers on the network. There is a need for up to 21 of these files to be open at one time. As we update the information on them we close them. At random times and intervals, Reader either is very slow to open up the file, around 5min. and other times it just locks up the computer and a restart is required. Is this a limitation of the program to work with files on another system? I do not know much about Reader it's self, but do windows. Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated. I have included the System Paramaters and Installed Plug-ins reports generated in Reader. I have also tried updating Reader with the lates patch, but that just makes it worse.
Sorry, my email got cut off. I'll post it again...

Recently installed Microsoft office 2010 pro and certain excel files are very slow to open. Every other program opens just fine, however when I open certain documents they can take up to 2-3 minutes to open. If I try to open multiple excel documents at the
same time my computer freezes. I disabled all of the add-ons, however it did not do anything. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue?
System information: Intel i5- 6GB Ram, Windows ultimate editionTry this :
Go to a folder in Windows Explorer, then Tools ->
Folder Options, then the
File Types tab. For each of XLS, XLSM, XLSB, XLSX, etcetera, select it, then click
Advanced, (if Advanced doesnt show, click Restore first, then Advanced) select
Open in the
Actions list, then click Edit
Adjust the settings to:
Application used to perform action:
- "C:...\EXCEL.EXE" "%1"
Use DDE
- Checked
DDE Message *LEAVE BLANK*

This is meant to open a new instance of Excel each time you double click on an Excel file. I had /DDE at the end of the command string and other garbage in
the DDE area below.
But the above worked for me. -
Adding an Adobe Captivate 4 file with external links to Moodle
Hi - Does anyone know how to upload an adobe captivate 4 file so external links within the published adobe cp file open when playing in moodle? I have attached a wmv video that does not open. Also I have attached a swf Raptivity file that does not open.
Thanks, SandraThe wvx file is only really a small text file containing something like this code:
<ASX VERSION="3.0">
<ENTRY>
<REF HREF="myvideo.wmv" />
</ENTRY>
</ASX>
It seems to just make Windows Media Player happier when loading wmv file for some reason. I had to resort to using this file at one client site running an IIS web server. You point your link in Captivate at the wvx file, which then loads the video. The wvx file can have quite a lot of other code inside it to do fancy stuff. But that's not essential.
If your question is now answered, please mark it at the top. -
Mac Dreamweaver CS6 very slow to open files
Hi
My Mac Dreamweaver CS6 opens html files in about 1-2 minutes! It is very very slow. It all works when the file is open but it is the actual opening that is slow.
I have turned off external files but no change.
Any ideas??
Thanks
Mac Pro
Processor 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Memory 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)I've been strugling with this issue for a long time.
I've found that Dreamweaver takes about 2 minutes to open CSS files with @import url for font face.
for example:
@import url(http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Oswald:400,300);
i've never had problem with big files but if i place this line into my 20k css file, it takes for ever to load.
if i remove it, it opens fast as usual.
Please don't tell me that it could be a Google problem thatis loading slow because it's not.
the font file isnt big enough either.
Of course i have deativated the "load things from external urls" setting.
any ideas on how could this be fixed withoput changing my work style ? -
InDesign very slow when opening a document with many large photographs
When opening a book file linked with many large photographs (up to 1.3 GB) InDesign CS4 & CS3 (CS2 did not have this behaviour) takes up to 10 minutes, or even more to open one of the 16 page chapters of the book. As its opening the file InDesign is completely iresponsive. It helps to see the whole document at 5% so that all the images 'load'. The preview view settings are on the default Typical settings. When the link to the folder with the images is broken, InDesign opens the document very fast. It seems that on opening the document InDesign CS4 (and 3) has to rebuild the preview files as if the settings were on High and not Typical in the Preferences settings. Is there any way around this?
InDesign generates the preview upon import, in fact when the original image is missing InDesign still previews the image, it does not need the original file. Fast Display is not an option since all images are greyed out. To me it seems that InDesign CS4 & 3 re-link to the original files every time a document is opened. After churning away to re-link itself to the original high res files then it becomes responsive again. Yet this can take even more than 5-10 minutes when the linked photographs are very big. CS2 did not behave this way. It did this behaviour only when High Quality Display was selected, which is understandable.

Dreamweaver very slow when linking to external CSS style sheets
I'm working on a site on my PC using Dreamweaver CS6. When I link to external style sheets, Dreamweaver virtually grinds to a halt. Just clicking from one line to another can take up 10 seconds. My PC is high spec, i3720, stripes set drives and 32gb ram.
I have tried deleting the cache no change. The external css files are part of the site and the site has been rebuilt . Can somone help with this as it is seriously impacting my ability to use Dreamweaver.Hi Murray, the RAM comments were irrelevant, pointless. 32GB RAM vs 4GB RAM? Sorry, I worked at Microsoft and as a systems integrataion consultant for a number of years. 32bit programmes don't access RAM the same as 64bit, but, having 32gb with a 64Bit OS means RAM usage for a 32bit programme is better managed. Programmes and data files are on seperate drives. My data files kept are on 3 disk stripe sets.
The CSS files and the HTML file are on the same drive. AS an example of performance for data read/writes, I also use Photoshop CS6 to edit images in excess of 2gb in size containg multiple smart object, and I dont experience this type perormance lag.
In this case, RAM is mainly irrlevent because the file are small, approx 200kb total combined size. I mentioned RAM in my initial post because any time I've had problems with Adobe products before, I've always been asked how much RAM I have.
So, can we please drop RAM, and perhaps focus on the problem....
Dreamweaver, regardless of what background processes I have running, regardless of how much RAM I have, regardless of where the files are kept, has a significant performance hit when editing an HTML file with links to multiple CSS files. -
Dreamweaver very slow when lose connection to intranet
When not connected or lose connection while intranet
documents are open,
id still like to be able to work in dreamweaver yet it is so
slow like it is trying to find the intranet every second.
At least it wont give a popup for every open file like
Dreamweaver mx2004. but it still runs very slow, like switching to
another application and then switching back to Dreamweaver8, the
document open becomes active after 20seconds so have to wait.
Intuitively at least for me, it would be nice if it only
bothered you when u tried to save the document, a message would
popup saying ' Orig document path could not be found'. I would stop
whatever background process is running slowing down dreamweaver.
Anyway to turn off whatever process this is?Hi Murray, the RAM comments were irrelevant, pointless. 32GB RAM vs 4GB RAM? MacBook Pro run very slow when open Contacts
My MacBook Pro (earlie 2011) run very slow. When open Contacs show the color ball. I can't see duplicates contacs.
Back up all data.
1. If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contacts in the iCloud preference pane. Press return to confirm, or click Keep on Mac in the dialog that opens.
2. From the list of groups on the left side of the Contacts window, select All On My Mac. If that group doesn't exist or is empty, skip this step. Otherwise, from the menu bar, select
File ▹ Export ▹ Export vCard
Save the exported contacts to the Desktop.
3. Quit Contacts. Triple-click the text on the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return.
A Finder window will open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
4. Launch Contacts. Your contacts will be gone. If you took Step 2, then double-click the file you created in that step and confirm that you want to import from it. Your contacts will reappear.
5. Re-enable Contacts in the iCloud preference pane, if you disabled it. Test. If the issue is resolved, delete the AddressBook folder and the vCard file on the Desktop and close the open folder window.
Otherwise, quit Contacts again and put the AddressBook folder back where it was, overwriting the newer one that will have been created in its place. Post your results. -
Very slow copying of files to external hard drive
Dear all,
I've been finding that my MacBook Pro (a 2007 model running Snow Leopard) is extremely slow to copy files over to an external hard drive. The hard drive is connected via Firewire and is perfectly fine with my (Tiger) desktop G5. When I say slow, I mean that the progress monitor is counting in individual bytes.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
RogerI've tried again with a different cable and the firewire 400 (which is certainly what I'm using) still proves appallingly slow when I'm trying to copy files from my MacBook to the drive. The other way round (External HD to computer) is just fine.
Sounds like a hardware problem. In order to troubleshoot it, you'd need to try a different FW HD. If it did the same thing, it would suggest an issue with the MBP's FW port/bus. If it worked fine, then it would suggest an issue with the first FW HD, likely with the circuitry, as has been surmised before (the HD itself may be just fine, and could be transferred into a different enclosure).
I would try firewire 800, but assume that you can't have a connector which is 800 one end and 400 the other: both HDs are firewire 400 and I want to carry on using them ...
800 is backwards compatible with 400, so you actually can, but it will operate at the 400 speed; in any case, no reason to mess with that here.
One of my HDs, a later model, has a USB connector built in. I tried copying from the MacBook to the HD using the USB and it was very fast.
Sounds like you've narrowed it down to a FW issue, as described above.
I'm wondering whether this is, as one of the other correspondents surmises, an OSX 6.3 problem ...?
I strongly doubt it. I'm on 10.6.3 and have done SuperDuper backups/Time Machine backups/large file transfers, and all have behaved just as they did before 10.6.3. I read all the posts that come through here, and there is no widespread issue (normally, when something like that happens, there will be many posts about it; if fact, there are usually many posts after any major update/upgrade, when people believe the update/upgrade has done something to their machines, but I've been surprised at the low number after 10.6.3, at least here in this forum, and 10.6.3 was a very large update).
Would be very interested to know your informed thoughts.
Some thoughts:
-as mentioned above, try a different FW HD on that same MBP port to determine if the port is operating correctly.
-if the port does function properly, get a new enclosure and install the HD from the FW enclosure (USB enclosures, if you're satisfied with their speed, are very inexpensive, sometimes as low as $10 or so). Check out Macsales, Newegg and Amazon for some ideas/examples, or if you want to see hundreds of them, google it.
-if the port is the issue, you may want to get used to using USB or get a FW800 HD enclosure. Obviously there is no guarantee the FW800 port/bus is functioning properly, but I think the odds would be good.
