    How to trap client browser window closing thru JSP or servlets?
    Gunjan

    Hi
    Though some JavaScripts may provide you with solutions , yet there is no reliable way to detect the closing of the browser by the servlet. One way to achieve detection of user quitting a session is setting session timeouts ion the server side. This can be done either through the web.xml file or programatically by setting the session.setMaxInactiveInterval().

  • Browser window closing

    Hello,
    How could I close browser window from jsp code?
    Probably I have to use JavaScript. But, window.close() doesn't work.
    May be someone has some ideas about this topic?
    /Aljoha

    I need to open a confirmation window on the click of a command button(Exit without saving). If the user clicks Ok on the popup confirmation, then the main form window should be closed. If user presses cancel, then there's some other action to be performed to reload the page. (The form itself is in jsf . So the bean method in action takes care of the cancel part).
    This is the snippet of code for the 'Exit without saving' command button. It works fine in Camino and Mozilla, but has problems in IE and Safari. Can somebody suggest an all-browser compatible way of doing this?
    thanks

  • Other Browser Windows closing

    Hello,
    I am having a problem with the JRE. I am using JRE 1.3.1_04 on Windows 2000 and IE6.
    If I already have browser windows open and launch my java applet from a shortcut on my desktop, IE seems to launch this new browser in the same process as the already open browser windows, and the JVM attaches itself to both browser windows. So when I do a system.exit(0) all browser windows close.
    This poses a major problem for me as the users will be launching this applet from either a shortcut on thier desktop or a link from another Web application (which is set to open in a new window). In both these cases windows will open a new browser in the same process.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You should not use System.exit() from applets. And Sun should have not allowed you to do so. ;)
    By the way:
    1. I saw a checkbox somewhere in Explorer settings: "Reuse explorer windows when launching shortcuts".
    2. Why not to use an applet viewer instead of IE? It will run as a separate JVM.

  • Message Handling WDA and another Browser Window

    Hello,
    We have one Web Dynpro Application (ABAP) and this application will be run in a portal (NetWeaver 2004 s). We would like to start one JavaScript application from this WDA. This application started on click (UI-Element "LinkToURL"). We need the status of the started JavaScript application in the Web Dynpro Application. The important status are, error, exit, successful, browser window closed, ... .
    How we can implement a message handing with WDA and JavaScript.
    Thanks for your creative suggestion.

  • IE browser windows crash at Flash player websites

    My computer seems to be running much slower at sites where Flash Player is used.  Myspace crashes/automatically closes very often.  I have downloaded Flash Player 10.  I have no idea where it is on my computer though.  I am using Internet Explorer 7, but was thinking of using FireFox.  I downloaded FireFox and went to YouTube and wasn't able to view any movies.  So I've downloaded Flash Player 10 a couple times and nothing is working.  I have run CCleaner, Malwarebytes, and have given combofix logs to other forums.  I have (hopefully) pinpointed the problem to being my Flash Player.  Thanks in advance for your help!

    I suggest that you start afresh, by following these steps
    download the FP uninstaller from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html (save to disk);
    download the offline installers
    for Internet Explorer http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe (save to disk);
    for all other browsers http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe (save to disk);
    close all browser windows and run the downloaded uninstaller;
    reboot windows to remove all residual FP files;
    with all browser windows closed, run the downloaded installers.

  • How can I close a remote front panel by closing only the browser window?

    I control a remote front panel in a browser (from the client PC). If I don't use the 'close' - button in my program to end the remote front panel, but instead of this the 'x' of the browser window (in the right bottom corner), my program won't be close, it continues on the server. Do you know how to end a VI by closing only the browser windows?
    Thanks for any help!
    wolfe

    I found the examples. Thanks.
    But I could not find a solution yet. Now I know how to end a VI by clicking on the x of the VIwindow.
    My problem is, to end a VI by clicking on the x of the BROWSER window after I loaded and controlled a remote panel VI in a browser (e.g. IE).
    If you have any ideas ... I'd be happy.
    Thanks for your help.

  • A second browser window will not open and then closing the 1st window firefox will restart. Taskmgr shows it still running, it will not restart until I end the process in taskmgr.

    I open the browser and close it every thing is fine. I open the browser and then attempt to open a second browser window, it will not open. Now because I've attempted to open a second browser window firefox will not restart after closing the open window. Until I've shut it down in the taskmgr. This just started the other day and I have removed the only update I made that was "flash" and I removed the 64 bit version of firefox.

    Win 7 with iTunes installed - I was also having problems with that.
    "netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt resolved all issues and Firefox launched normally.
    Check to see if Winsock is corrupted. May prevent FF from communicating with the web and consequently fails to launch properly - for my situation was not a firewall or antivirus block!
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936211#LetMeFixItMyselfAlways
    Click Start, and in Start Search, type cmd.
    Right-click the cmd entry that appears in the search results, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
    At the command prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:
    netsh winsock reset
    Then, you should see the following message:
    Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the computer in order to complete the reset.
    Restart the computer.
    Note If you receive an “Access Denied” error message instead of the message that is mentioned in step 3, the command prompt was not correctly elevated. In this case, close the Command Prompt window, and repeat steps 1 through 3. Make sure that you correctly implement step 2.

  • Problem in Closing Browser window from an Applet.

    I have wriiten a small Applet progarm that calls a Javascript function in the opening window, to close the window in which it is loaded.The Applet window is a PopUp window from one of my application's window.
    First time I start my application and load that Applet and then close the frame window,it works fine that the browser window will close, when the frame window is closed.It calls the window closing event in that applet stop method is called and In stop methd a closeLaunchedBrowser method will called this has a Javascript method and the Method closes the window using the self.close() method.
    But now if I continue this process of launching applet and then closing frame window, initial 1 or 2 steps it has know problem when I continue this, after 3 or 4 steps, it result in browser hang/crash.
    I am using java version 1.4.2_01 or higher and IE or Firefox(any other NetScape based) browser to load applet.It works fine with IE but getting problem in case of Firefox(any other NetScape based).
    The error dialog information and related event log generated is shown below :
    The dialog which is displayed before crashing of firefox has information :

    Thread t = new Thread(r);
    t.start();
    }If any one know solution regarding how to aviod this crash of browser please let me know. I will be very thankful to you.
    Thanks.

    Right, I sort of tracked down some code that uses getMethods to allow me to invoke a Javascript command. It is not pretty and took a little bit of editing to get to work but it does the job without putting JS stuff into my HTML.
    However it is causing some problems. If I open one of my other applets it will only let me close that window and the previous applets ceases to respond at all. I think this may be because the invoke gets the JSObject which is the window and somehow having more than one applet open in different windows is causing it to get confused and is locking the first window and only responding to the second.
    I have seen a much simpler method that uses:
    import netscape.javascript.*;
    and JSObject to get the window but my compiler complains about the import. Any further suggestions or an example would be welcome as my current solution is a bit limited as you can effectively only have one window open at a time which doesn't suit my needs.
    Many thanks.
    Mark.

  • Let addon run even after browser window is closed.

    I want to use this addon - "Pushbullet" even after the browser window is closed. Such an option was available in Chrome when I used it last. I migrated to Firefox recently, and would like to know how to implement the same here.
    Thanks,
    Raj

    FredMcD, You have been here long enough to know there is a "Edit This Post" link on right of your posts as three posts in a row in short order is too much.
    Some Extensions if you can find the chrome url can be used in shortcut to start a Firefox process but only with the Extension running.
    The ChatZilla irc client extension for instance can or at least used to.

  • Issue Tracker app closing the browser window on chart page

    Hi!
    I am walking through the Issue tracker tutorial. I have created page 10 (Issues Resolved by Month) which is the chart page. Everything looked fine until I try to run the page. Then it simply closed the browser window after it authenticates me. Anyone else see this? Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Probably a problem with your SVG viewer installation. Does it happen on other chart pages as well? What browser/svg viewer version combination are you using? There are some known issues with what's labeled as the current svg viewer on Adobe's website and Firefox.

  • Event handling for closing a browser window on portal in web dynpro abap

    Hi,
    I am new to portal as well as web dynpro. Is it possible to handle portal events in web dynpro abap? My requirement is whenever a browser window is closed on portal, if any new system messge has been added I want to display them in a pop-up. I checked examples from the package 'SWDP_TEST' but they trigger events in web dynpro and pass them to portal. I want to subscribe to the close event of portal and handle it in my web dynpro abap application. How can I achieve this? Please suggest.
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi,
    I dont think that you can code to close IE browser window as you cannot access MS IE APIs in WD ABAP. I looked into closing IE browser and got http://p2p.wrox.com/general-net/16588-handling-ie-close-event.html . reading this, it seems the coding can be done in C#(asp) etc.

    I hope this is useful for you.

  • Trigger Javascript when closing browser window from CP8

    I worry this isn't possible but here goes....any help would be incredible.
    Recently I was given some great advice on how to trigger a Javascript action in the frame on our LMS which the Captivate file plays in.
    It works perfectly and on the final page triggers the Javascript which send usage back to the LMS and forward the user to a page which allows them to rate the course.
    The code was as follows:
    top.code.closeSCOContent();
    closeSCOContent() is something written into our LMS.
    However the obvious issue occurs when a user just closes the browser window and for some reason our LMS doesn't record any bookmarking or any data.
    The only way it seems to do this is if that function is called.
    So using the window.onunload() or the DOFinish; function is there a way I can edit any file in the Captivate output to trigger this function when closing the browser?
    Long shot I know but currently the best I have managed is getting the course to trigger this as soon as it loads rather than closing the window?
    Massive thanks in advance for any advice.

    Any solution to ensure the data is written back to the LMS would solve the issue.
    Currently when the close button is pressed nothing happens at all and it's a big problem.
    Triggering this .closeSCOContent() function would be the ideal, but if it's not possible anything to write back would be best.
    When you say <body onbeforeunload="top.code.closeSCOContent();">
    Do you mean putting this in the HTML file of the output which currently is:
    <body bgcolor="#f2f2f2">
    and change this to:
    <body onbeforeunload="top.code.closeSCOContent();" body bgcolor="#f2f2f2">

  • Maximize and closing browser window

    Hi all.
    I have two problems.
    I'm running a form in separateframe =true. I want to maximize the browser window. How can I do this???
    The second problem: how can I close the browser window? I have create a post-form trigger and I put this code: web.show_document('JavaScript:window.close();','_self');
    but nothing appens. Is there someone that can help me???
    Thank you all,
    Fabrizio

    For closing the browser window after closing a form you need to create an html file with the following code in it.
    for Internet Explorer:
    <html>
    <body onload="closeit()">
    <script>
    function closeit()
         win = top;
         win.opener = top;
         win.close ();
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>Place this file where Oracle HTTP server can read (virtual directory) and call in in a post form trigger with web.show_document.
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('http://machinename.domain:portno/mydirectory/close.html',
    '_self');Make sure you use _self to the close the applet browser.
    You can sue the same method to maximize the browser window too with the appropriate code.

    Tony
