  • Upgrade Database from 10.2.0.5.0 to 11.2.0.3.0 in Silent Mode

    Hello there,
    Previously, I had posted a thread on how to upgrade database from 10.2.0.5.0 to 11.2.0.3.0 through the wizards provided (GUI-based) and had successfully upgraded the database. Now, I am attempting to upgrade the database from 10.2.0.5.0 to 11.2.0.3.0 once more but this time, in silent mode (console-based). Unfortunately, I am lack of knowledge regarding the installation of the software and upgrading the database in silent mode.
    I managed to figure out this much so far:
    1 . Traverse through the installation directory to the directory shown below:
           11.2.0.3 > Extracted > database > response
    2 . Fill up the blanks of db_install.rsp file:
           oracle.install.option=INSTALL_DB_SWONLY
           SELECTED_LANGUAGES=en
           ORACLE_HOME=C:\Oracle\11g\DBSwLoc
           ORACLE_BASE=C:\Oracle\11g
           oracle.install.db.InstallEdition=EE
           oracle.install.db.EEOptionsSelection=false
           oracle.install.db.isRACOneInstall=false
           oracle.install.db.config.starterdb.memoryOption=true
           oracle.install.db.config.starterdb.installExampleSchemas=false
           oracle.install.db.config.starterdb.enableSecuritySettings=true
           oracle.install.db.config.starterdb.control=DB_CONTROL
           oracle.install.db.config.starterdb.automatedBackup.enable=false
           oracle.installer.autoupdates.option=SKIP_UPDATES
    3 . Save new db_install.rsp file to a new location (shorter path name without spacing will be best recommended)
    4 . Traverse through the installation directory to where the setup file is located.
    5 . Execute the following command:
           setup.exe -silent -waitforcompletion -responseFile C:\db_install_updated.rspThe result I received is as shown below:
    Starting Oracle Universal Installer...
    Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from C:\Users\...\Temp\OraInstall2012-12-13_03-16-43PM.  Please wait ... [WARNING] - My Oracle Support Username/Email Address Not Specified
    [SEVERE] - Provide the My Oracle Support password.
    Please press Enter to exit...
    Previously in the db_install_updated.rsp response file, I had set autoupdate option to SKIP_UPDATES but why does it still prompt me for the Oracle Support account?

    After running the command below to upgrade the current database (Oracle 10.2.0.5.0):
    dbua -silent -sid DB01 -oracleHome C:\Oracle\10g\DBSwLoc -oracleBase C:\Oracle\10g -diagnosticDest C:\Oracle\11g -sysDBAUserName sys -sysDBAPassword password -autoextendFiles -upgradeTimezone -commonFileLocation C:\Oracle\11g\DBSwLoc\oradata\database -recompile_invalid_objects true -degree_of_parallelism 7 -dbsnmpPassword DefaultPassword1 -sysmanPassword DefaultPassword1 This is the result:
    Oracle recommends gathering dictionary statistics prior to upgrading the database.  Refer to the Upgrade Guide for Performing Pre Upgrade

    I removed the last 3 entries involving notification email, but got the same error.
    What email address I need to provide and where I should specify it ?

    Finally figured this one out.
    It happens when oracle.install.db.config.starterdb.type is set to TRANSACTION_PROCESSING.
    Apparently "TRANSACTION_PROCESSING" and "GENERAL_PURPOSE/TRANSACTION_PROCESSING" are not valid types, even though the response template file and the response file generated via OUI list the following:
    Response template file included in the database package:
    +#------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
    +# Specify the type of database to create.+
    +# It can be one of the following:+
    +# - GENERAL_PURPOSE/TRANSACTION_PROCESSING+

  • ORA-01242: data file suffered media failure: database in NOARCHIVELOG mode

    Hi All,
    Need help from the gurus.
    Currently we are in state unable to do anything.
    Was using a database and all of a sudden it crashed. Tried to mount the database, open it, it failed. Also tried the recover and alter database open, even that failed. Errors are as follows.
    Errors in file e:\oracle\product\10.2.0 \admin\devrevdb\bdump\devrevdb_p000_2620.trc:
    ORA-00603: ORACLE server session terminated by fatal error
    ORA-01242: data file suffered media failure: database in NOARCHIVELOG mode
    ORA-00449: background process 'DBW0' unexpectedly terminated with error 1242
    ORA-01242: data file suffered media failure: database in NOARCHIVELOG mode
    In my spfile, the administrator has set only two control files and there is no mirroring and hence do not have another control file that will help me boot the db.
    Please let me know how I should go about it. I am only a timebeing person trying to carryout a db activity. Any help would be of great help.

    Hemant,
    thanks for the reply.
    I tried the way you suggested and it threw an error.
    ORA-01145: offline immediate disallowed unless media recovery enabled
    I searched and found that an additional tag of drop needs to be added to the command which you suggested.
    ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE '<filename>' OFFLINE DROP.
    i don't know what will the drop command have an effect ?
    i have copied the data file to another location. Since i don't know much, i just want to be sure of what im doing.
    if the above command is successfull, will it drop the datafile or the tablespace and i can no more use it. How can i use the copied datafile.
    Thanks,
    Sachin

  • Error when creating Oracle12c PDB using DBCA response file in silent mode

    I am getting an Oracle dbca NullPointerException when trying to create a PDB (Pluggable Database) usingdbca response file in silent mode.
    I have a Oracle 12c CDB up and running, listener is also up, $ORACLE_HOME and $ORACLE_SID are also set correctly.
    After database install and creating CDB using response files, I am now trying to create a PDB using dbca response file. Contents of dbca.rsp -
    [GENERAL]
    RESPONSEFILE_VERSION = "12.1.0"
    OPERATION_TYPE = "createPluggableDatabase"
    [CREATEPLUGGABLEDATABASE]
    SOURCEDB = "orcl"
    PDBNAME = "dev"
    CREATEPDBFROM = "DEFAULT"
    PDBADMINUSERNAME = "oracle"
    PDBADMINPASSWORD = "oracle"
    CREATEUSERTABLESPACE = "true"
    I tried following commands:
    dbca -silent -responseFile /<file path>/dbca.rsp dbca -silent -createPluggableDatabase -responseFile /<file path>/dbca.rsp
    Both give same error:
    ---- Begin output of /u01/app/oracle/product/12c/db_1/bin/dbca -silent -responseFile /<file path>/dbca.rsp
    STDOUT:
    STDERR: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
    at oracle.sysman.assistants.dbca.backend.CommandLineArguments.processResponseFile(CommandLineArguments.java:6885)
    at oracle.sysman.assistants.dbca.backend.CommandLineArguments.process(CommandLineArguments.java:4544)
    at oracle.sysman.assistants.dbca.Dbca.execute(Dbca.java:110) at oracle.sysman.assistants.dbca.Dbca.main(Dbca.java:184)
    However when I pass exact same parameters as command line arguments, dbca works absolutely fine and PDB is created: Following command runs succefully.
    dbca -silent -createPluggableDatabase -sourceDB orcl -pdbName dev -createPDBFrom default -pdbAdminUserName oracle -pdbAdminPassword oracle -createUserTableSpace true
    My environment need installation using response files only. I had used a dbca response file with "createDatabase" option for CDB and it worked fine. Error is observed only when I run it with OPERATION_TYPE as "createPluggableDatabase".
    There is an option to create PDBs along with CDB creation when OPERATION_TYPE is "createDatabase". But Oracle does not give flexibility to name PDBs in this option. If I ask Oracle to create 3 PDBs, it will name them itself like PDB01, PDB02, PDB03 and so on. This doesn't work in my deployment because of applications compile time dependencies on specific PDB names.

    Yes, I am pointing to correct response file. I have two of these. One for "createDatabase" and another one for "createPluggableDatabase".
    While the first one works absolutely fine, the one which creates PDBs always gives error.
    I tried renaming the response file like dbca_dev.rsp for PDB install but same error message. I read in another forum that rename dbca.rsp is not a good idea.
    So I kept it as dbca.rsp but built it using PDB template.
    When I try after removing -silent, it tries to launch a UI installer. Since I am in Amazon AWS platform, my instance is CentOS based which doesn't support Xwindows display.
    I am stuck with -silent install only. When I try with -progressOnly, I get exactly same error.
    Also tried removing some parameters but still get exact same error message.
    Tried same trick with "createDatabase" response file, now I see parameters missing error message.
    It seems like Oracle doesn't like response file install for "createPluggableDatabase".

    Installing Nokia PC Suite 6.83 in silent mode will still start the connection wizard. I do not want to start anything after the installation.
    The /DISABLE=”AUTORUN” is not working.

    Hi. Just to note I'm currently googling this issue as I have the same issue, and have found various pages that point to either
    a) Workaround (for XP)
    b) Use of the MSI driver *with the device you already have*
    c) use of the widcomm bluetooth stack
    I'm making notes of any useful pages here & will try seeing if they work later.

  • Drag and dropping database objects in Jdev

    I evaluated Visual Cafe and deciding wheather to go with VC or JDev. One of the cool things I noticed in VC is that one can drag and drop database objects in the form using DBNavigator. I haven't seen anything similar in JDev 3.1. Does this or something similar exist in JDev?
    Regards,
    Mark

    Mark,
    Yes, the DB Navigator in Visual Cafe may provide a nice simple look at the database Tables - but so does JDeveloper's Database Navigator - VC may excel in the Drag and Drop functionality - but this is not the real objective. Let me explain...
    When creating a real enterprise level application in Visual Cafe, you begin to discover that DB Navigator along with it's nifty Drag & Drop is no match for JDeveloper's unprecedented level of database integration. JDeveloper's Database related integration includes (but not limited to):
    - JDevelopers Database Navigator
    - Integrated SQLJ environment
    - Tight Business Components for Java (BC4J) integration
    - Wizard driven Form generation (thin & thick)
    - DAC Controls / InfoSwing components
    - Named Connections / Connection Manager
    - WebBeans / JSP Element Wizard
    The closest thing in JDeveloper to what you are referring to in VC is JDeveloper's support for the Design mode which allows you to design both graphical and non-graphical elements. In particular, JDeveloper allows you to design your InfoSwing and InfoProducer components using the Designer - by selecting the component (JavaBean) from the Component Palette and then [Dragging Optional] Dropping it on either the Design Canvas or the Structure pane (lower pane of Navigator window).
    For non-visual elements (such as InfoProducer elements), the Structure pane allows for Creation via Drag & Drop and allows for property setting by using the Property Inspector (Since it is a JavaBean...).
    There are many reasons why JDeveloper provides a much richer and more productive development environment than Visual Cafe. Most have to do with seeking a complete enterprise level solution. JDeveloper adresses the enterprise level application developers needs directly with integration of elements from Tools & Wizards to the integration of a complete application development framework - Oracle Business Components for Java - No other tool can provide you with such a rich and productive development environment.

  • Can I rebuild dbconsole without putting database in quiesce mode?

    I have a database (10Gr2) that the dbconsole just won't start up, while it say's its starting up, and during that time I can actually log into the console and look at things, navigate around etc., but then I get a message saying that it could not be started, and I lose the console connection.
    I know the fast way is to just do the dbconsole recreate, but this puts the database in quiesce mode, which amounts to an outage, which I would sooner avoid.
    Is there a way to drop and recreate without affecting users?
    thanks

    what you can do here launch dbca and create another instance dbconsole

  • Stop phone vibrating when receiving emails in silent mode

    Hi,
    I have an iphone 4 and the iOS5 update.
    I mainly have my phone switched to silent mode which is fine for receiving texts and calls as I prefer it to vibrate, but how can I stop it vibrating every time I receive an email without disabling silent mode?
    Thanks

    If I remember correctly, Apple has been experimenting with the vibrate-for-emails feature in the iOS 5 betas. The phone would vibrate for new email message on one beta and they'd drop it again for the next. Seems like it has made its way to the final iOS 5 and thus you won't be able to disable it selectively. One alternative, though not really a good solution, is to check for new mail manually and not have the phone do that for you on an intervall or via push.
    Sebastian.

  • Ifsimportexport silent mode

    I am trying to run ExportContent in silent mode as documented in this manual:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/html/B14176_01/migrating.htm#sthref1333
    However, no matter what I do, the command results in a GUI interface for ifsimportexport.
    My environment is CMSDK 9.0.4.2 on oracle 10g database and application server.
    The exact script I use is as follows:
    #!/bin/ksh
    . ~oracle/.kshrc >/dev/null 2>&1
    IFS_ROOT_HOME=${ORACLE_HOME}/ifs
    RELATIVE_PATH=system
    . ${IFS_ROOT_HOME}/common/bin/ifsunixcmds
    . ${DIR_NAME}/${RELATIVE_PATH}/ifssetenv
    export CLASSPATH=${IFS_CLASSPATH}
    export JRE_ARGS="-Xmx32M"
    export logfile=/var/runlog/`basename $0`_$$.log
    main () {
    ${IFS_JAVA} ${JRE_ARGS} oracle.ifs.admin.export.ExportContent exportcontent.def
    main "$@"
    exportcontent.def contains:
    IFS.EXPORT.RunSilent = true
    IFS.EXPORT.Username = system
    IFS.EXPORT.Password = manager
    IFS.EXPORT.Service = IfsDefaultService
    IFS.EXPORT.Domain = ifs://dbserver:1521:cmsdk:CMSDK
    IFS.EXPORT.SchemaPassword = password
    IFS.EXPORT.ExportedPaths = /
    IFS.EXPORT.ExportTreeSize = 50
    IFS.EXPORT.LogFile = /home/oracle/exp/log/exp.log
    IFS.EXPORT.ExportSetName = exp_051105.exp
    IFS.EXPORT.ExportToPath = /home/oracle/exp/exp

    The documentation does not state this, however the exact syntaxt to invoke this operation is this:
    ${IFS_JAVA} ${JRE_ARGS} oracle.ifs.admin.export.ExportContent parameterfile=exportcontent.def
    However, the logfile generated for this operation is still seems to be verbose. I tried setting the IFS.EXPORT.Verbose to false. I even tried the whole process by invoking the GUI and explicitely setting the logging verbosity to false. Unfortunatley, both the instances resulted in large verbose logs.
    Is there any way one can supress verbose loggging?
