Drop down menu poulated by 2 db columns

I have a form where I enter information into a table. There is a drop down menu in the form where the id is connected to another table. Basically I'm pulling names from another table. I've got an id that connects fine.
However, I'd like to pull 2 columns into the one drop down menu selections. I n my other table I have a firstname and lastname column. I'd like to pull both those columns into the one drop down menu.
Ideally each line in the drop down menu would read "lastname, firstname"
Thanks in advance!
Peter T

what database are you using ?
u can simply do like this..
for example..
SELECT concat(convert(FirstName using UTF8)," - ",convert(Lastname using UTF8)) as FullName, userid
FROM employees
here i concat two fields Lastname and firstname
this is mysql specific.
if u still cannot do it
post ur table schema here i will write it for u
hope this helps.
Regards.

  • How Can I Put Multiple Columns in a Drop-Down Menu?

We are trying to put multiple columns in a drop-down menu, similar to what is on these web sites...
    http://www.cabelas.com/
http://www.target.com/  (This site has the multiple columns on the Women, Home, Kitching & Dining, Toys, Electronics, and See More categories).
If anyone has any suggestions for coding, please reply.
    Thank you.
    Wil Radcliffe

As an <li> tag is not a block level element like a <p> or <div> tag you can store a <div> container within the <li> tag and create an element in that menu item and us the following tutorial to create multiple columns depending on the ordering:
    http://www.alistapart.com/articles/multicolumnlists
Depending on your target browser you could also use the CSS3 column-count to define the amount of columns.  But with just a quick glance at this I would say it only works in the the later versions of Firefox, Chrome, Safari and IE9+.

  • Drop-down menu in table cells - how to expand over the column width?

    Hello!
A client is migrating their 2,400 forms from old JetForms to PDF (LiveCycle Designer) and would like to keep the same functionalities he's used to in the old platform. However, some of the old tool features do not seem to be present in LiveCycle.
Suppose a drop-down menu in a table cell, containing items which lengths are bigger than the table column. In JetForm, when you open the drop-down it spans over the columns to show all its contents, not cutting the drop-down list contents.
I tried this in LiveCycle, but the drop-down gets cut and its contents are limited to the table column (hence the drop-down menu) width.
Is there a way to work around this limitation, even if I have to use some scripting?
    Thank you for any ideas!
    Marcos

    Hi again, Niall!
Thank you again for your great examples!
The dynamic width drop-down will cover some of the client's expectations.
However, they would like it to work even when the drop-down is within a table cell with a width smaller than the width they want the drop-down to show when the mouse enters the field.
I'm afraid you will say this is not possible... Or at least not without a lot of coding, using subforms or the like.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you very much!

  • Add a Drop down menu / Combo Box into a specified cell of a multi column lsit box

    Hello,
i have a question how to manipulate a cell of a multi column list box in that way that i can add a drop down menu or a combo box in this cell?
    Is this possible in LabView?
    Thank you!

Wow, I took a look at the alternate code posted here at that really takes you through gyration (also a similiar comment I see on Lava) to perform what I've done with a few functions....
See the Pics and attached VI for how its done. KISS, I added an event stucture and changed my first enum case to " " (i.e. a blank) to make it look like the other posted code....

  • How do I select a range of values in MySQL using a drop down menu

    Hi,
I have a database of picture frames that have a value of
frame width. I want to be able to select a range of values (i.e.
    .50" to 1") instead of each and every value (i.e. .50", .56", .76",
etc.). I have a drop down menu (mnuWidth) with 5 ranges (see
    attached code).
Each selection has a value from 1 to 5 indicating the range I
want to search. In my results page I have let DW set up a recordset
    (see attached code)
Can anyone tell me how to get this to choose a range instead
of just the value entered by my menu?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom

I have been growing fond of lookup tables. Your lookup table would have your numbers in one column and the values you want returned in the next.
    Lookup table
    item
    Name
    1
    a
    2
    b
    3
    c
    4
    d
    5
    e
    6
    f
    7
    g
    8
    h
    9
    i
    Input table
    input
    Name
    1
    a
    B2 and copied down:
    LOOKUP(A2,lookup::$A$2:$A$11,lookup::$B$2:$B$11)
Caution: Lookup will return the closest value so it it looks for "10" in this example it will return "i"
If you don't want to see the error messages from blank inputs, wrap Lookup in IFERROR.
    hope this helps

  • How do I get a sum of cells for rows that contain a text in a drop down menu?

I am trying to track individual sales with each of my vendors. I have a column of drop down menu's that list each of my vendors. I am trying to associate a dollar amount for a single transaction in a row that is associated with a vendor and get a sum for all of my single trasactions with that vendor for the year. I have used =countif to build a pie chart of % of transactions per vendor now I am trying to get a dollar amount as well
    Thanks in advance
    Don

    HI Don,
COUNTIF will count, SUMIF will sum.
The main difference between them is that COUNTIF works with data in a single column—in this case the column containing the vendor names—while SUMIF uses two columns—the vendor names to decide which rows to include in the sums and the amount column to determine the amount to incude.
    Example:
Main: Vendor names in column A, descriptions in columns B and C, and dollar amounts in column D
Summary: Vendor names in column A, Number of transactions in column B, Dollar totals in column C
Formulas inn Summary (both are entered in row 2 and filled doen to the last row):
    B2: =COUNTIF(Main :: $A,A2)
    C2: =SUMIF(Main :: $A,A2,Main :: $D)

  • How do I create a drop-down menu in Numbers?

Just a simple question - wanting to create options in a column I've created (similar to the drop down menu above, when you select font size or font type.
    Thanks!

select the cell(s) you want to contain a pop-down menu, then open the cells inspector:
then set the items in the inspector by double click each item and editing the contents:

  • Error due to drop down menu in the dataTable

I have a data table which has a drop down menu in one of the table columns. When the drop down menu is disabled, every action in the page works (click on it, and it does what it does). When the drop down menu is enabled, every action (with one exception) in the page does not work (click on it, it refreshes the page, but the action is not fired). I cannot debug the thing because the action is not fired at all.
The exception is that for buttons that is marked as immediate, it works. I created an inline message, and wire that to the dropdown menu. I do not see any error. Looking into the log file, I do not see anything.
I was suspecting maybe conversion error. The data value for the drop down menu is integer (I try both setting the convert to integer and nothing). Even there's error in conversion, there should be error message showing up (in the inline message box).
So, again, how do I diagnos this, and to find out what is going on?
    Thank you very much.

  • Filter query based on a value from a drop down menu

    I am using ADFBC/JDev 10.1.3/ADF-faces (JSPX)
I would like to display a table of data based on a view object and have a drop down menu of values that the user can select from which would filter the table of data. The filter would be applied to a field in the VO. For example, have a JSPX page that shows all employees and have a drop down menu that filters the employees by a specific department with an option to show all departments too in the drop down. I'm not sure if Steve Muench's example #76 (http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/09/23/notYetDocumentedAdfSampleApplications.html) would serve as a basis for this requirement or not.
Can anybody give me high level guidance on how to do this? Both declaratively and programmatically would be great.
    Thanks,
    Quoc

I can't get the JSPX page to display the correct data. It's displaying the entire VO and when you try to select Yes or No or All from the drop down menu, it just changes the Active Flag column in the table to whatever you select for the first row only and still displays the rest of the rows in the VO.
    Here's my JSPX code:

I have created a spreadsheet on numbers for ipad with a list of customers as a drop down menu. How can i make their address appear underneath when I select the customer?
    iselect the customer?

    Hi bazza,
We won't be able to put the address from a formula into the same cell that you enter the customer's name. We can put the address in the cell under the customers name.
First let's take James advice and concatenate the address in the address table.
Here is the formula in G2
    =CONCATENATE(B2&"
    ",C2&"
    ",D2&"
    ",E2)
It shows this way because after I clicked on B2 and typed [&"] (no brackets) I typed option-return
This gives you your new line. Then I typed the closing ". I repeated this for the rest of the address.
Next we want to bring this to your order sheet. I prefer using the two formulas OFFSET and MATCH instead of VLOOKUP.
base tells OFFSETwhere to start counting from. Click A1.
row-offset is for the row. we will use MATCH() -1 to give us the row.
What MATCH does is give you the row number where something is found and you can specify an exact match. I usually construct the MATCH formula first and then cut and paste it into OFFSET. MATCH looks like this: MATCH(A2,Table 1::A,0). A2 is what we are looking for, Table 1A::A is where we are looking (the entire column A), and 0 means we want an exact match. Can you see it inside the OFFSET formula? Notice that we had to subtract 1 from its result.
column-offset tells OFFSET which column A=0 so we want 6.
we ignore "rows", "colomns" we don't need them.
If this seems like too much, just break it down into small pieces.

  • Drop-down menu

    Hello,
I would like to create a report that a drop-down menu. In effect, adding a column with the + symbol in which when clicked opens in the record analyzed a series of records whose difference lies in a field that is to identify the state is located in the practice.
APEX you can do it? I have version 3.2.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi
Do mean something like this (as the source or a SQL report in APEX)??
    SELECT empno,
           ename,
           APEX_ITEM.select_list_from_query(3,'%NULL%','SELECT dname FROM dept',NULL,'YES','%NULL%','+') dname
    FROM empCheers

  • Why does search engine drop down menu only works once?

I'm quite happy with the new Safari 4 (first time user) but I'm frustrated by only being able to select once with my mouse from the 'Recent Searches' drop down window.
Let me explain. After I launch Safari 4, I'm able to use my mouse and select one of the recent searches in the drop down menu in the normal fashion - go to an item on the menu and press the LH mouse button.
However, after I've done this once, I can't do it again. When I select an item from the list and click my LH mouse button, the search window goes blank. The previous Google search results stay the same. If I highlight an item from the drop down menu and press the Enter key on the keyboard, it works fine. A mystery!
The funny part is that it works fine on my other laptop.
I've unistalled and reinstalled twice but with no success. When I do reinstall, my previous preferences/settings are still there. Where's the preference file so I can delete it? Don't know, but this might help my problem.
    Anyone else seen this problem?
    Regards
    John

Hi mach37, can you delete the Vosteran search engine by highlighting it on the Search panel of the Options dialog and using the Remove button?
''If it comes back:'' I would suspect a bad add-on. Here's my suggested procedure for tracking down and cleaning those up:
    (1) Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program (on XP: Add/Remove Programs). After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
    (2) Open Firefox's '''Add-ons page''' using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click '''Plugins'''. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".
In the left column, click '''Extensions'''. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Any improvement?
    (3) You can search for remaining issues with the '''scanning/cleaning tools''' listed in our support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.
    Success?

  • Dynamic Drop-Down Menu Solution

    Hi All,
After spending a lot of time trying to find a good solution for a dynamic drop-down menu, I end up writing my own.
The solution is for a list of items, having ITEM as the primary key of the table and ITEMDESCRIPTION as the list of options for the user to select.
    The steps are:
    1) JavaBean to return a ResultSet;
    2) A custom tag to build a HTML SELECT;
    3) A .tld file to declare the custom tag;
    4) web.xml where the custom tag mapping resides;
    4) A JSP to illustrate how to call the custom tag;
Hoping this will save lots of time to others
    Cheers
    Trajano Roberto

This is a very helpful execellent sample code.
However, If I'm using Model-View-Control approach, then what's the way of applying these codes
to each indivisual file? Say, I have 20 files and only 4 of the 20 need to be treated as they like
to have drop down menu in particular column(s)??? How could the custom tag be applied as the
controller tells the view to present these special treat? or it is not possible (I have to treat each
file, filtered by controller -- one by one as it encounters the special need)?
    Thx, Tzae

  • How do I aphabetize the drop down menu for favorites?

I have been able to sort my bookmarks menu from A>Z while in the "organize bookmarks" view, BUT that doesn't change the bookmarks drop-down menu, which is what I want to do so I can find bookmarks quickly. How to I re-sort the bookmarks drop-down menu list?

The Views menu in the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) is for viewing the bookmarks in a different sorting order (hence the name Views) and doesn't sort bookmarks permanently.<br />
Clicking the column header does the same.<br />
If you want to sort bookmarks then you need to right-click a folder and use "Sort By Name" to sort that folder.<br />
You can't sort individual bookmarks, only folders can be sorted this way.
