DropDownByIndex and structured Node
Hi,
I have defined a structure with a field display of type string.
I create a context node from that structure so that I have a node attribute
named display of type my_struct-DISPLAY
Problem is that I would like to display this attribute in a dropdownbyindex but when I want to bind the text, my attribute is grayed so I cannot select it.
Is this a bug ? How can I display in a dropdownByIndex an attribute coming from a dictionary structure.
Thanks,
Thierry
Hi Koen,
Sorry but my question is not how to use a dropdownbyIndex. Hadn't the node been typed from a dictionary structure, I would not have had any problem.
Question is why I cannot bind the text field from a node built from a dictionary structure ?
I have used this mechanism in Java and it was working fine.

Hello,
I've just completed the entire documentation of my VI and I did describe some Case structures and Formula Nodes. Now I want to print the VI with the VI printer and when I select ''Description'' in the custom printer manager, it doesn't select the description from most functions in the block diagram such as Formula Node, Case Structure,etc.
Is there a way to get these descriptions in the printed version VI ?
Thanks a lot !
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hi Weepet,
After some investigation, it turns out that this behavior is expected behavior. Please see the following help topic
http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361G-01/lvhowto/creating_vi_and_object_de/
Essentially, Context Help will only display the description for controls, indicators, and constants. At the same time, the descriptions will only print if that description is available in context help. LabVIEW primitives will always use the description from the documentation, and will not display your custom "Description and Tips". So, for primitives like case structures and formula nodes, we cannot get that information to print. The behavior that you're seeing is expected.
Perhaps you can just use comments to document these functions? You can double click on a blank area of the block diagram and provide comments.

How to Create Instances in the Transient Root Node and Sub Nodes from Root Node Query Method ?
Hi All,
I am Creating a BOPF BO with 3 Nodes,

using Root Node I have created Search UIBB Configuration in FBI.
In testing -- > when i enter Data in the Search Criteria Fields am able to get the details in to the query method

Thanks ,
Kranthi Kumar M.Hi Kranthi,
For your requirement you need only two nodes. Root Node and Result node. Use the same structure for both.
To create Instance while search.
Create Query method with input type which has the required fields for selection criteria.
Fetch the data and create instance in the root node.
Pass the new instance key as exporting parameter form Query Method.
To Move data from ROOT to Result.
Create a action at root node.
Write a code to create new entries in Result node.
Then configure the Search UIBB and display result in List UIBB. Add button and assign the action MOVE_MAT_2_RESULT.
Create another List uibb to display data from Result node.
Connect the UIBBs using wire schema. SEARCH -> LIST(ROOT) ---> LIST(RESULT).
Give src node association for ROOT to RESULT Configuration.

Help Required For DropDownByIndex and Table
Hi All,
Could anybody help me to solve my problem?
Actualy I am working with one DropDownByIndex and two
Tables.Where within one viewset DropDown
box and one Table(say Table1) are in one view and
another one table(say Table2) is in other view.
DropDown box is maped with one attribute suppose
countryName and and Table1 is maped with collageName
and locationName. So, when I will select the DropDown
with one countryName then the table1 will show all the
available collageName and locationName with multiple
row.
In other view I mean the Table2 is bind with
availableCourse and courseDuration this two
attributes. So whin I will click one row of Table1
that means one collegeName is selected then the
Table2 will show the availableCourse and
courseDuration for that particular college. When I
will select next row of Table1 then the value of
Table2 will be different.
Could anybody help me by sending the code and
details?
With Thanks and Regards
SudipOne way is to get lead selected of drop down index , then get lead selected of table1 and pass it via a method to wdDoInit in the 3rd view so that you know what has been clicked in table1 and then accordingly get the data in table2.
Another way you can do this is to map the tables and drop down index to value nodes and create them in the component controller and then map these value nodes to the respective views. Now when your table2 view is triggered you get the lead selected in the value node of the table1 and accordingly generate the table2. -
Fetch attribute value of structure node
Dear All,
Please let me know is it possible to get the attribute name and attribute value of a structure node of a record model inside the program?
Can I give any name as the attribute name?
Regards,
Biju K GeorgeHi,
could you provide an example ?
I think you speak about using field-symbol.
--> get the attributes of a structure or a table --> same has field catalog for ALV
--> get the value of the attributes :
concatenante structure_mane attribute_name into w_field separated by '-'.
assign (w_field) to <field>
check <field> is assigned.
and <field> is the value of the attribute attribute_name of the structure structure_name.

Tree and Tree Node Components - Threadinar7
Hi All,
This is the seventh in the "Threadinar" series , please see Threadinar6 at
http://forum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=100601 for details
In this Threadinar we will focus on the
"Tree" and "Tree Node" Components
Let us begin our discussion with the Tree Component.
Tree Component
You can drag the Tree component from the Palette's Basic category to the Visual Designer to create a hierarchical tree structure with nodes that can be expanded and collapsed, like the nodes in the Outline window. When the user clicks a node, the row will be highlighted. A tree is often used as a navigation mechanism.
A tree contains Tree Node components, which act like hyperlinks. You can use a Tree Node to navigate to another page by setting its url property. You can also use a Tree Node to submit the current page. If the the Tree Node's action property is bound to an action event handler, selecting the node automatically submits the page. If the Tree Node's actionListener property is bound to an action listener, opening or closing the node automatically submits the page. You set Tree Node properties in the Tree Node Component Properties window.
* If you use this component to navigate between pages of a portlet, do not use the url property to link to a page. Instead, use the Navigation editor to set up your links to pages.
* Events related to tree node selection do not work correctly in portlets because the component uses cookies to pass the selected node id back and forth, and cookies are not correctly handled by the portlet container. You cannot handle tree node selection events in portlet projects.
Initially when you drop a tree on a page, it has one root node labeled Tree and one subnode labeled Tree Node 1. You can add more nodes by dragging them to the tree and dropping them either on the root node to create top level nodes or on existing nodes to create subnodes of those nodes. You can also right-click the Tree or any Tree Node and choose Add Tree Node to add a subnode to the node.
Additionally, you can work with the component in the Outline window, where the component and its child components are available as nodes. You can move a node from level to level easily in the Outline window, so you might want to work there if you are rearranging nodes. You can also add and delete tree nodes in the Outline window, just as in the Visual Designer.
The Tree component has properties that, among other things, enable you change the root node's displayed text, change the appearance of the text, specify if expanding or collapsing a node requires a trip to the server, and specify whether node selection should automatically open or close the tree. To set the Tree's properties, select the Tree component in your page and use the Tree Component Properties window.
The following Tutorial ("Using Tree Component") is very useful to learn using Tree components
http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/learning/tutorials/2/sitemaptree.html
See Also the Technical Article - "Working with the Tree Component and Tree Node Actions"
http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/reference/techart/2/tree_component.html
Tree Node Component
You can drag the Tree Node component from the Palette's Basic category to a Tree component or another tree node in the Visual Designer to create a node in a hierarchical tree structure, similar to the tree you see in the Outline window.
The tree node is created as a subnode of the node on which you drop it. If you drop the node on the tree component itself, a new node is created as a child of the root node. You can see the hierarchical structure clearly in the Outline window, where you can also easily move nodes around and reparent them.
You can also add a tree node either to a Tree component or to a Tree Node component by right-clicking the component and choosing Add Tree Node.
A Tree Node component by default is a container for an image and can be used to navigate to another page, submit the current page, or simply open or close the node if the node has child nodes.
* If you select the Tree Node component's node Tree Node icon in the Outline window, you can edit its properties in the Tree Node Properties window. You can set things like whether or not the Tree Node is expanded by default, the tooltip for the Tree Node, the label for the tree node, and the Tree Node's identifier in your web application.
* You can use a Tree Node to navigate to another page by setting its url property. You can also use a Tree Node to submit the current page. If the the Tree Node's action property is bound to an action event handler, selecting the node automatically submits the page. If the Tree Node's actionListener property is bound to an action listener, opening or closing the node automatically submits the page.
- Note: If you use this component to navigate between pages of a portlet, do not use the url property to link to a page. Instead, use the Navigation editor to set up your links to pages. In addition, events related to tree node selection do not work correctly in portlets because the component uses cookies to pass the selected node id back and forth, and cookies are not correctly handled by the portlet container. You cannot handle tree node selection events in portlet projects.
* If you select the image in the Tree Node, you can see that its icon property is set to TREE_DOCUMENT. If you right-click the image on the page and choose Set Image, you can either change the icon to another one or choose your own image in the Image Customizer dialog box. For more information on working with an image in a tree node, see Image component.
- Note: The image used in a tree node works best if it is 16x16 or smaller. Larger images can work, but might appear overlapped in the Visual Designer. You can right-click the component and choose Preview in Browser feature to check the appearance of the images.
Please share your comments, experiences, additional information, questions, feedback, etc. on these components.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------One challenge I had experience was to make the tree
always expanded on all pages (I placed my tree menu
in a page fragment so I can just import it in my
pages).Did you solve this problem. It would be interesting to know what you did.
To expand a node you call setExpanded on the node. Here is some code from a tutorial that a coworker of mine is working on.
In the prerender method:
Integer expandedPersonId = getRequestBean1().getPersonId();
// If expandedPersonId is null, then we are not coming back
// from the Trip page. In that case we do not want any trip
// nodes to be pre-selected (highlighted) due to browser cookies.
if (expandedPersonId==null) {
try {
HttpServletRequest req =(HttpServletRequest)
getExternalContext().getRequest();
Cookie[] cookies = req.getCookies();
//Check if cookies are set
if (cookies != null) {
for (int loop =0; loop < cookies.length; loop++) {
if (cookies[loop].getName().equals
("form1:displayTree-hi")) {
cookies[loop].setMaxAge(0);
HttpServletResponse response =(HttpServletResponse)
getExternalContext().getResponse();
response.addCookie(cookies[loop]);
} catch (Exception e) {
error("Failure trying to clear highlighting of selected node:" +
e.getMessage());
} ... (in a loop for tree nodes)...
personNode.setExpanded(newPersonId.equals
(expandedPersonId));In the action method for the nodes:
// Get the client id of the currently selected tree node
String clientId = displayTree.getCookieSelectedTreeNode();
// Extract component id from the client id
String nodeId = clientId.substring(clientId.lastIndexOf(":")+1);
// Find the tree node component with the given id
TreeNode selectedNode =
(TreeNode) this.getForm1().findComponentById(nodeId);
try {
// Node's id property is composed of "trip" plus the trip id
// Extract the trip id and save it for the next page
Integer tripId = Integer.valueOf(selectedNode.getId().substring(4));
getRequestBean1().setTripId(tripId);
} catch (Exception e) {
error("Can't convert node id to Integer: " +
selectedNode.getId().substring(4));
return null;
It would also be great if I can set the tree
readonly where the user cannot toggle the expand
property of the tree (hope this can be added to the
tree functionality). -
Problem while handling Parent and child nodes in CE
Hi all
I am facing a problem with handling Child and Parent nodes in CE.
I have a Table in which I have drop downs. On selecting a value in the drop down, I have to take that value and do some action.
I am trying to access the value in the following ways
wdContext.nodeParent().currentParentElement().nodeChild().currentChildElement().getVaActivity();
wdContext.nodeChild ().currentChildElement().getVaActivity();
When I select the drop down from the first row of the Table the code works fine.
But when I select other rows, it returns the current value of the first row.
The lead selection of the parent always returns u20180u2019 even though you have done some action in row 2,3 etc.
The same code gives the required values in EP 7.0; I.e.: it returns the values form selected row in the table.
Basic problem is that the current value of parent always returns the first row.
Following are the Properties of the nodes
Parent
Collection Cardinality: 0-n
Singletone: true
Child:
Collection Cardinality: 0-n
Singletone: false
Please help
Regards
DeepuHi,
In CE changing dropdown selections doesn't fire table leadselection events. If you want to use a dropdown in a context-driven UI element like a Table, you need to use of event parameter mappings. So here are the steps:
1. Create a new action for the onSelect event of the dropdown (I will write the code for DropDownByIndex), let's call it Select.
2. Add a parameter parentElement whose type is same as the type of the parent node element. So from your example it would be IParentElement. Select the chek-box for "Adapt event-handler parameter". This will add a new parameter to the event-handler method onActionSelect called parentElement.
3. Write this inside wdDoModifyView :
if (firstTime) {
IWDAbstractDropDownByIndex ddi = (IWDAbstractDropDownByIndex) view.getElement("<id of DropDownByIndex>");
ddi.mappingOfOnSelect().addSourceMapping(IWDAbstractDropDownByIndex.IWDOnSelect.NODE_ELEMENT,"parentElement");
3. If you want to set the lead selection of the table to the row where the dropdown is write this inside the event-handler:
wdContext.nodeParent().setLeadSelection(parentElement.index()); //parentElement is the event handler parameter added through the action.
Note that the event parameter IWDOnSelect.NODE_ELEMENT points to the node element that defines the data mapping for the containing row and not the node element of the source for the dropdown. This has been specfically added for such a scenario. All this is well documented [here|http://help.sap.com/javadocs/nwce/current/wdr/com/sap/tc/webdynpro/clientserver/uielib/standard/api/IWDAbstractDropDownByIndex.IWDOnSelect.html#NODE_ELEMENT].

Special Characters and Structures
For MathScript Nodes, I am trying to locate some Help for special characters and structures such as the proper ways of defining arrays, structures etc. and how and when to use ( ), { }, [ ], colons, commas, semicolons, etc. Can someone point me to this information? Thanks Jeff
Hi Jeff,
Yes, 2D array is acceptable in MathScript.
I will try to give detail about your question. If I miss anything, please let me know.
Define array - You should use [ ] to define and initialize an array. For example, A = [1 2 3; 4 5 6; 7 8 9] defines A to be a 3-by-3 matrix. Comma or space character separates element by element in one row. And, semicolon character separates row by row.
[ ] - Another situation to use [ ] is to define a function. You should use [ ] to specify output, such as function [a, b] = foo(g, h).
( ) - Parenthesis is widely used in MathScript. 1) In a formula, parenthesis gives high priority to calculations within it, such as a*(b+c); 2) It is used in function call, such as sin(a); 3) It is used to specify input when you define a function.
{ } - MathScript can not accept cell array by now. Therefore, { } is not used.
' ' - Single quotation is used to define a string variable, such as b = 'MathScript'.
; - Semicolon is used to separates row in matrix or end a command, such as c = sin(1);. If you end a command with semicolon, it suppress the display out in MathScript Window. This does not work in MathScript Node.
... - It is used to separate a long formula into two lines, such as
d = 1*...

Bapi_costelementgrp_create and hierarchy nodes
Hi to all,
I need an algorythm in order to fill the internal table hierarchynodes (def. like bapiset_hier ) to pass to the bapi_costelementgrp_create.
The hierarchy nodes will be uploaded from a file with two fields: "father node" and "child node" like the following:
TESTJR TESTJR2
TESTJR2 TESTJR3
TESTJR TESTJR4
in the internal table the hierlevel shoul be like the following schema:
TESTJR is level 0
TESTJR2 have to assigned to TESTJR (hierlevel 1)
TESTJR3 have to assigned to TESTJR2 (hierlevel 2)
TESTJR4 have to assigned to TESTJR (hierlevel 1)
Any ideas and suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Try the code below. However, you should test it thoroughly. WARNING: Make sure first record in internal table pertains to the root node. The internal table lt_hier is the internal table that you assign parameter "hierarchynodes" when calling BAPI_COSTELEMENTGRP_CREATE.

Hi
can any one tell me Difference between simple types and structure ?
Thanks,
KiranHi Ravi,
As my concern there is difference between simple type and structure.
1SIMPLE TYPEit behave as TYPE proprty of value attibute .suppose you will create on value attribute as simAtt.then you can put that simple type in your attribute TYPE property .actualy it treated as data type like string,integer........
one more thing you want to change data type in your application then you will create SIMPLE TYPE..then put it TYpe property of value Attribute
Ex--you want to change the format of double value using "," then you will change only by using simple type.
STRUCTURE---Basically it use for creating for context value node in any context of controller(View,component )if you creat one structure then add number of attribute .when you create context value node then you binding the structure then automatically it will populate with value node as structure name and attribute .
SIMPLE TYPE---only put as Data type of Attribute and simple type also use within Structure at time of creation
STRUCTURE---you can use for DAta type of Apptibute..
thanks

Difference bet DropdownbyIndex and byKey....??
Dear Experts,
My task is to have two dropdowns
say for example...
In the first dropdown i need to have 5 Countries where i should select one of the choices
*Corresponding to the country selected, it should give 5 cities where in here no selection should be done.just displaying in this dropdown.
Please suggest me the dropdown i should use here... and also the steps,properties and the mapping for this task...Hi Vinod,
As suggested by Valery, in the Supply Function get the Country and populate the States node with corresponding values.
Difference between DropdownbyIndex and byKey is:
DropDownByKey provides static data in DropDown and DropDownByIndex makes it dynamic.
DropDownByKey: Is used when u want to use data dictionary type.For this create a dictionary of simple type in the dictionary.
Creating the Simple Type:
Ur project>dictionaries>Data Types-->Simple Types right click and select Create Simple Type.
After entering the name and package, open that and click on "enumeration" tab at the bottom of the same. Now add the Value and Description to be displayed.The created simple type can be used for DropDownByKey.
Binding it to the UI element:
Now create a valueattribute and change the type to the dictionary type(created simple type). Finally bind the DropDownByKey UI element to the value attribute.
DropDownByIndex: Is used while we have to get the data from the database. Here we directly bind the DropDownByIndex UI element to the context node(attribute).

Please help!!!Hello Victoria,
Thanks for the response.
I have tried troubleshooting steps given by you.
Check if the issue occurs with other users. Use another user to access the library in Content and Structure and then compare the results. --
I tried with different users but no luck
Make sure that the user account with issue has permission to view the All Documents view of the library. --
Yes, user Account have the permission
Check if the issue occurs with other libraries in the Content and Structure. If not, I recommend to save the library as
a template including contents and then create a new library based on this template. After that use the new library instead of the old library. --
No other library have this problem. I cannot save the library as template including the contents as the it has many folders and files. The current size of library is 786 MB
Clear cache in the browser or use another browser to see if the issue still occurs. --
tries but issue persists.

- Open the diagram of the race condition.vi before running it and try to predict what will be the values of the two counters after the third run.
- Use the Compare Locals Properties and Wires.vi to find out how slow locals and value properties can be (times 1000+).
This being demonstrated, I must add that I use globals and value properties quite often, because they are often very convenient

Moving files in Content and Structure View hangs on Long Running Operation Status window
Hello,
I have the following issue in a site collection: when I go to site content and structure and browse to a document library, and I select multiple documents, click actions --> move and give the target destination, the screen keeps hanging in LongRunningOperationProgress.aspx
with the message "starting" and the running circle. The files do get moved, but the screen does not come back.
In other site collections this works as normal, and when the LongRunningOperationProgress.aspx page is open, it also states (n of N files moved) or something similar. This status is missing in the faulty site collection.
When I open https:\\<site collection url>\Long%20Running%20Operation%20Status\AllItems.aspx I see that an entry is created here with title "(no title)" and Status "NotStarted".
I have included the ULS log, filtered on the thread ID. I am sure there are some clues there (like Invalid text value. A text field contains invalid data. Please check the value and try again.<nativehr>0x81020018</nativehr><nativestack></nativestack>),
but I can't figure out where to start solving this problem. The Windows event logs don't give any errors. This issue exists on both web front ends (tested locally). The farm is using 14.0.6106.5002.

PM, itemCount - 14Hi,
From your error message, this occurs when the value you supplied for a text field is larger than 255 characters. To address the problem, store less text in the field
or change the field type from text to note.
