Dropping unused columns from database table

I have an existing table called TUSER. I have mapped some fields, but not
all fields, as some are inserted by other applications and for reporting
purposes.
I am using JDK 1.3.1_02, Windows 2000, SQL Server 2000 database, Kodo
JDOEE 2.2.6 and JBoss 3.0.0.
When I refresh the datastore it drops all columns that are not mapped
(note that these colums can contain null values):

Is this meant to happen? I am guessing not. Is there a way to tell the
schematool to not remove existing columns?

You can in fact tell the schematool not to drop columns it doesn't know about. When you run the schematool, use the "add" action rather than "refresh". Then it will only add columns, never drop them. See the documentation for details:

Drop unused column in compressed table

Good day for all.
I have partitioned compressed table under 10.2.0.4 database. I need to remove column, and did it according metalink note 429898.1, but then i execute command alter table .... drop unused columns, i got error ORA-39726 (unsupported add/drop column operation for compreseed table), so it mean that proposed workaround don't works now.
Does anyone have new workaround for this problem?

I read about how to drop column from a compressed table - first set it unused and then drop the unused columns. However, in the example below on the database I ran it, it does not work. Please, can you tell me WHEN this approach does not work. What it is dependent on - parameters or something else. Why I cannot drop the unused columns?
And the example along with the errors:
create table tcompressed compress as select * from all_users;

As you can see even after altering the table by setting the column X as unused I still cannot drop it by using DROP UNUSED COLUMNS.

ORA-12983: cannot drop all columns in a table

Hi,
I am creating a table with two columns.
I have modified a column as unused using ALTER statement.
After that i have tried to drop the another column by using ALTER statement.
But it throws an error ORA-12983: cannot drop all columns in a table.
is it not possible to achieve this via ALTER statement?

is there any other way to find the name of the columns which have been marked as unused?Don't think so, and you would not be able to do much about. You won't be able to reference it, you won't be able to un-unuse it, and you would even be able to add a new column having same name.
Why are you using SET UNUSED in the first place?

DROP UNUSED COLUMN

Dear Gurus
I have a situation where I need to drop specific columns which are set to unused!
Say, I have 3 unused columns in a table and now I want to drop only one unused column from that.
SQL> alter table scott.emptest set unused (ENAME);
Table altered.
SQL> alter table scott.emptest set unused (COMM);
Table altered.
Once I set some columns un-used, now I want to drop only one un-used Column ENAME
SQL> alter table scott.emptest drop column ENAME;
alter table scott.emptest drop column ENAME
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00904: "ENAME": invalid identifier
which in turn throws this error!
Help appreciated!

Reconciilation from database table

Hi I have to reconcile data from database table. I am using OIM 10g and Oracle 11g R2.
I have created one GTC for Database Tables. And able to run th scheduled task for it.
Table name: recondb
there is one record present in table.but i saw on OIM server log it says no records.
Not able to figure out what is the problem.

I got Null Pointer Exception after User Password. I have checked mapping of Pasword field its correct.

Delete a column from the table

Hi.
I would like to delete a column from a table. I want to drop the table and recreate it later. But this table has a primary key which
is a foreign key of other tables. So after I recreate the table I must recover the relationship of this table and other tables.
How do I get the information about the primary key of this table as a foreign key of other tables from data dictionary?

Dropping Unused column

Hi All,
I am working on version 11.2.0.3.0 ( windows server 2008 ).
While dropping unused column i am getting below error
SQL> create table er (ab varchar2(50), aa varchar2(50)) compress;
SQL> alter table er set unused column ab;
Table altered.
SQL>

SQL>
SQL> alter table er drop unused columns;
alter table er drop unused columns
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-39726: unsupported add/drop column operation on compressed tables

i can't do such things for these number of tablesThat is the funniest thing I've heard in a while. If you can "alter table xxx drop unused columns," why can't you do what is suggested.
And no, it's not a bug.

Columns from different tables displayed in an ADF table format

I have a many to one relationship between 2 tables (checklist -> subcontract). I would like to display columns from each table on a web page in an ADF Read Only Table format. I created a method that returns the data I need from the tables. When I drag that method over to my page JDev I'm only allowed to select columns from either the checklist table OR the subcontract table. I need one column from the subcontract table and several columns from the checklist table. I'm using JDev 10.1.3.2 and an Oracle 11g database. Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your response. I ended up creating a new getter in the Checklist table which refers to the column in the Subcontract table. Then I was able to create a table column for that returned value.

Selecting columns from two table is slow but same

I am selecting 27 columns from two tables
which running for more than 30 minutes. but
if I select count(*) with the same query
except the columns it is coming in seconds.
Where is the error?

If you post
1) The table definitions for the underlying tables
2) The indexes that are on the tables
3) The two SQL statements you're running
4) The explain plan for both statements
we can probably be of some assistance.
My guess is that the count(*) is able to return much more quickly because the optimizer is able to use a significantly faster query plan that is based on an index which the longer-running query cannot utilize. Without the information I've requested, though, it's hard to do more than speculate.

How to delete a row from database table in facade client

Hi all,
I followed the tutorial in creating a persistence entity from database table, then a session facade. Then I followed the tutorial to create a sample client to test the model. In the session facade, I could use persistEntity method to insert a record to the database. I am just thinking of an extension to the tutorial, i.e., being able to delete the record too. So I created a new method removeEntity in the session facade

and called it in the sample client. It was executed without any error, but the record in the table still exists.

Creating XML file using data from database table

I have to create an xml file using the data from multiple table. The problem That i am facing is the data is huge it is in millions so I was wondering that is there any efective way of creating such an xml file.
It would be great if you can suggest some approach to achieve my requirement.
