DTS Audio playback?

Is there any way to play DTS audio from a DVD on my mac either through the DVD player or QuickTime?

Blame Sony yet again for locking people out of their proprietary world.
As mentioned above VLC plays them. So does MPlayer. But unfortunately, you won't be able to play any DTS audio through Front Row.

  • How to wrap a .dts audio file into an AIFF-C container

I have a .DTS audio file that I'm trying to wrap into an AIFF-C container so I can upload that to a first generation Apple TV running ATVFlash, with the XBMC.
I've already been able to playback Aiff-C wrapped files that I've been able to rip from a CD, that use the DTS/5.1 encoder. This works great using an external DTS decoder.
The way I've been able to do this, is I've found a PC app that will multplex the DTS audio tracks from the CD into an AIFF-C without transcoding the audio. There's been no apparent loss during this procedure which is great.
I just happen to get a .dts concert audio file that I'd like to wrap into the AIFF-C container.  Because this file has a .dts extension I can only open it with VLC.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

my answer might be a litte bit late but http://vixy.net/ is a web based service that does exactly that. Simple to use!

  • DTS audio in iTunes

    Hi,
Anyone out here using Sony's MDR-DS1000 Surround sound headphones?
    ( http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SYDisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MDRDS1000&Dept=audio&CategoryName=pa_ headphones_homegaming )
I would be interested in knowing how you have your system setup. I am following the instructions below to get DTS audio out of my iMac:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93870
They seem to work very well and would just like to get some feedback from other users.
    Cheers,
    RtC

The reason the DTS audio streams playback via iTunes is because iTunes sees the DTS WAV files as NORMAL WAV files. The very cunning DTS folk made DTS encoding work this way so that it is possible to create 5.1 discs that only use as much room as standard stereo audio data CD's. What this meant was that standard CD manufacturing processes could be used to manufacture 5.1 audio discs cheaply. So as long as your Mac's optical port is connected to a DTS capable de-coder, iTunes/QuickTime will pass the data out of what appears to be a regular WAV file to the optical output, the de-coder "sees" that it is DTS and will then decode. iTunes/QuickTime play no part in the DTS de-coding process.
I don't understand why DVD's with DTS streams aren't working for you, I have several DTS discs and they all work fine. Make sure you're using digital pass through.
FYI, you can convert DTS WAV files into Apple Lossless and you can then embed artwork and lyrics etc....

  • No Audio Playback due to Error Message "Disk is too slow. (Prepare) (-10001)"

Out of the blue, no audio playback.  Was working just fine earlier today.
I repeatedly get the error message:
    Disk is too slow. (Prepare)
    (-10001)
NOTE: I have more than enough disc space.  That is NOT the issue.
I also just got a second error message:
Part of the Project was not played
This project has too many real instrument tracks to be played in real-time. To optimize performance, see the 'Optimizing GarageBand performance' page in GarageBand Help.
NOTE: Odd as I have only 2 tracks in the GarageBand file.
    Any others experience this?  Suggestions?

Have a look into the Preferences folder (YourUserFolder/Libraries/Preferences/) and trash all Logic preferences.
You'll have to setup the program again.
    cheers

  • Premiere Elements 12 - Gaps in audio playback

    Hello everyone!
I have a problem with Adobe Premiere Elements 12: when I play video in timeline or preview window, there are lots of gaps and pauses in audio playback, even though video is playing smoothly. Usually the pattern goes like this: 2 seconds of clean audio - 0,5 seconds silence - 2 seconds of clean audio... etc.
    I have tried the following:
    - change audio buffer settings
    - change audio device (I have tested with integrated audio chip ("High Definition Audio"), M-Audio Fast Track Pro and cheap USB audio interface - same results with all of them)
    - start a new project with correct settings and import only one file
    - disable background antivirus monitoring
Usually source material is AVCHD 1440x1080 25fps (PAL, MTS-file) from small Sony camera, but this problem seems to continue even if I insert only still photo and mp3 audio to timeline. CPU load is about 6% during playback. It seems like Premiere Elements makes these gaps to playback signal before sending it to audio hardware?
Computer specs: Intel Core i7-4770 @ 3,4GHz, 16 GB RAM, 128GB SSD drive for OS & software and 2.0TB 7200 rpm drive for video, Intel HD Graphics 4600, Windows 8 (64bit).
I would be really grateful if someone could give me some tips to solve this annoying audio playback problem.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that this problem occurs all the time - even when video is rendered in timeline.

Thanks for the quick response, TonyPh12345.  Clearly not what I was hoping for but not unexpected. BB

  • Performance hit in audio playback in Solaris 10

    Hi,
I've noticed while trying out the Solaris 10 beta 72 that the audio playback quality took a major hit since Solaris 9. I was hoping that this would go away in the Solaris 10 release, but it's not the case.
If I try to play an .mp3 file with mpg123 or even audioplay an .au file, there are regular clicks in the playback, audible about twice per second. Booting into Solaris 9, the audio playback is perfect.
My intuition tells me that the integration of DTrace into the kernel is the culprit, but of course, I have no proof. Can anyone think of a way to test this theory? Can DTrace be disabled? Maybe DTrace can be used to figure out what's going on?

    Maybe DTrace can be
used to figure out what's going on?DTrace could certainly be used, but some basic facts would be helpful. As Juergen asked, which audio driver is this and on what machine? And how idle is the machine when audio playback is running? Is the machine power managed?

  • IPhone 4 audio playback cuts out after latest update (5.1)

My phones audio playback ( podcast, audiobook or music) cuts out at random intervals during playback.
This happens when listening through apple headPhones or my audio lead aux input to my stereo.
This has only started since the last software update (5.1). It's really frustrating as you often hit the jump back or forward arrows when restarting, instead of the intended Play symbol ( they are close together). This is really frustrating when your listing to an hour+ podcast.
Is anyone else having this problem since the update?

Same problem here! My phone was functioning correctly after the update until today, when it randomly attempted it's own emergency call, then requested that I turn on location services. When I hit cancel, it repeatedly requested that I turn on the service. When I agreed to turn on location services, it defaulted to the screen with the iTunes logo and the USB cable. Since then, I have been unable to get it to function. The phone has been switching between a black screen and the apple screen and buzzing periodically. When I touched the apple, it pixellated and melted away. I did see a message that the iPhone needed to be activated once and very briefly. I managed to connect it to iTunes using an old troubleshooting guide, but when I asked iTunes to restore it to factory settings (politely, thank you), it gave me error 21 (unknown error) and said it was unable to restore.
    Hopefully someone has an answer...?

  • AIR + Android audio playback in background

    Hello everbody,
at the moment I am evaluating the realisation auf a radioplayer using a rtmp stream for android devices.
There are two question for which I could not find any advices or resoltions.
    My questions are:
1.) Is it possible to play/continue an audiostream, even if the app itself is pushed into background?
2.) How are updates handled for apps in Android-Store? Is it the same as with the updateroutine for AIR on Desktops?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

    Hi Varun,
    thanks for your answers.
Are there any ressources/links, maybe on adobe devnet, available for audio playback while app is in background?
I already searched the web so far, but could not find any hints.
but anyway thanks for your response!

  • Audio playback stops short

Has anyone had problems with audio playback in a previewed or published presentation where the playback stop short and advanced to the next slide?

    Brian,
The fact that this mp3 is about the same size as a standard 16 bit/44.1k stereo file of a 3 or 4 minute song, indicates to me that it's an extremely long file.
I'm willing to bet you have run into the measure limit within a Logic song. It's 2000 something (can't remember it exactly).
The standard work around is to drop Logic's tempo to something really slow, thus allowing the larger file to be able to play within the Logic song limit.
    See if that's it...

  • Lenovo Beacon Cloud Storage HDMI MP3, DD and DTS Audio Passthrough

    Hello,
Is there any knowledge on whether it's possible to make the Lenovo Beacon pass DD 5.1(and/or DTS) audio through it's HDMI?
I just bought a Beacon and it plays avi files without audio at all, it plays MP4 and MKV with AAC 2ch audio just fine, but when I play a MKV with DD AC3 5.1 audio, it somehow downsamples it to a 2ch signal and I can't see any options anywhere on how to make any changes regarding the audio output.
The whole Audio section in the XBMC settings is completely missing.
The Beacon tech specs say that it supports DD and DD+ formats, but I don't know where it supports them. Yes, I can play files stored on the NAS via DLNA on my smart TV, and those files keep the DD sound, but the DD 5.1 doesn't work in local play mode via HDMI of the Beacon.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks.

I think that we must wait for firmware update from Lenovo for working sound on Beacon device, but when it comes out is mystery.

  • X201 hangs and makes noises during audio playback

Hello, I've a 3249CTO X201 with 8g of ram and an updated Hdd (seagate momentus xt 500gb with 4gb ssd).
I had issues with the Hdd that where partially resolved with a seagate firmware update (the hdd kept going from standby to active mode without apparent reason and it was assumed to be a too agressive power saving mode...)
Anyway, my issue here is the annoying chirping sound coming out the speakers during any audio playback (online audio streams, films, mp3, youtube... you name it!) anytime the Hdd is accessed.
It even seems like everything just hangs for anywhere between 0 and 2 seconds at the exact same time.
It only happens when on battery and using w7 pro 64bit. If I use ubuntu from my 8g sdhc card, it never occurs (even if I use chrome on both and watching the exact same youtube video). (NOTE that I did access the hdd from ubuntu to prove my point...)
I think it is related to the power gestion of the system and I've tried a countless serie of different power management settings. It affect the frequency of the episodes (would occur more or less often) but it still happens.
When plugged in, it never occurs....
If it doesn't occur under ubuntu (I mean never!), it should not be hardware related, however the w7 way of managing power is different so I tend to think there IS a hardware issue (weakness) wich might be highligted by the OS.
Anybody has a good lead on this?

    Hello Fafaneboat,
It might be an issue with firmware of your system, I would like to suggest you please visit the below mentioned web link to download and install few drivers according to your Operating System.

  • No audio playback

I'm getting an error upon itunes launch 'detected a problem with your audio configuration and audio playback will not work' and it isn't.  Upgraded itunes and problem persists.  Any other hints?

It did not work so I started playing around with cables and found that the speaker cable was plugged into the wrong port!
Always start with the simplest solution first I guess.
    Thx!
