Dual 23" monitor slow refresh

I have a MacPro dual quad-core, with two extension cables for my two 23" monitors to reach from the tower across a long desk. I bought the extensions from CablesToGo. One of my monitors works fine. The other does not. The symptom with the deficient monitor is slow response when dragging windows or playing movies. Movies appear at roughly half the frame-rate, and dragging windows seems sticky. If I drag the same window or movie to the other monitor, it displays them fine.
I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT graphics card, and under "displays" in system profiler, the only difference is that "Quartz Extreme" is "Not Supported" on one of the monitors, and on one it is. I don't know if this could be part of the problem.
Any potential solutions or recommended troubleshooting tips?
Thanks,
Chris.

- Will these 7300's handle dual 23" displays comfortably?
Yes.
- How will they perform doing GPU-intensive operations, such as those found in After Effects, Color and occasionally FCP?
They will work, but not as fast as with more powerful cards.
- And slightly OT, does anyone know what PCI spec these machines are equipped with? PCI Express? PCI-X? We're running a SCSI adapter and a Decklink card we'd love to carry over if possible - both are PCI Express.
The bus is PCI-Express, but make sure there are Mac Pro OSX drivers available for the cards.

  • Dual monitor screen refresh problem

We have a GUI application that runs on a dual monitor setup and are experiencing strange behaviour. The application is started on one monitor (the left hand one), but at times a window which has been dragged to the right hand monitor stops getting screen updates (e.g. typing show nothing on screen, but the characters are in fact in the field). If a window is positioned so that it overlaps both screens and the problem occurs, what we observe is the portion of the window on the left monitor (where the application was started) is redrawn successfully, but the portion of the window on the right hand monitor is not drawn at all - half the window shows correct detail, half the window is a grey rectangle.
This issue is not experienced when we run the application on a single monitor. The problem is intermittent, and is not due to idle time in the application (it can occur which an operator is working with the GUI).
We are running 1.5.0 update 5.

    We noticed the same problem.
We've got JSE 1.5.0_06 and a swing GUI. For me it looks like this: Only the bigger part of the application is refreshed. So if the application starts at the secondary monitor and is dragged so that a small part of the GUI is displayed on the primary monitor only the bigger part of the GUI (so that one on the secondary monitor) gets refreshed. So scrolling leads to graphic mistakes in the smaller GUI part.
If the main part of the application runs on the primary monitor and only a small part is on the secondary one we observe the same problem: Only the part on the primary monitor gets refreshed.
We also observed this grey rectangle paulch already mentioned.
Minimizing and refitting forces the repainting so then everything is fine.
Is was trying to find something in the bug database but I wasn't successful although I found several descriptions like this in this forum.
Can anybody present some work-around for this?
    Thanks
    Inga

  • Dual external monitor setup?

I'd like to use dual external monitors, ideally also plus the laptop screen for a total of 3 monitors, with my new 5th gen 17" MBP. I hear that USB-to-DVI options out there due have very poor poor refresh rates and picture quality. I'd like to use the ViDock2 expresscard/34 setup, which is a full fledged external video card, http://www.villagetronic.com/vidock2/index.html, but I understand it only works with MBP gens 1-4. Anybody know any other multi-monitor solutions that work with gen 5, other than poor quality USB options? Anybody know why the ViDock2 doesn't work with the MBP 5th gen?

Check out the Matrox dual head and triple head units, marc.

My suspicion is that you will need the more expensive "DP" versions to operate effectively with the new model.

  • Help Connect my Mid-2009 Macbook Pro to my new YAMAKASI CATLEAP Q270 SE 27" LED 2560X1440 WQHD DVI-D Dual Computer Monitor

    Hi,
I am trying to connect my Mid-2009 Macbook Pro to my new YAMAKASI CATLEAP Q270 SE 27" LED 2560X1440 WQHD DVI-D Dual Computer Monitor.  I am not having a lot of luck.
    My machine:
    OS: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
Processor:  2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
I am trying to connect it using the:
Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
    DVD-D HDMI cable
YAMAKASI CATLEAP Q270 SE 27" LED 2560X1440 WQHD DVI-D Dual
    (http://www.ebay.com/itm/150788045871?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m149 7.l2649#ht_16597wt_877)
    Here is what is happening.
    1. I connect the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter + HDMI Cable to Monitor
    2. Main monitor powers up like it is trying to display
    3. Laptop Monitor displays second part of desktop
    4. I can never get the Yamakasi to display a picture
Here is what I have tried:
    1. Different HDMI-D cables
    2. ATLONA AT-DP400 Dual Link DVI to Mini Display Port Converter
    3. Zapping the P-Ram
    4. Powering monitor with laptop closed
    5. Forcing the system to see the second monitor
    The nearest I can figure:
    - The laptop does see the catsleap (it displays resolutions I can set it to)
I am completely stumped, I was hoping someone could advise me.
    Thanks,
    Don

    Hey Kytarx,
I found the winning combination this weekend.
    I tried:
    - Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
    - ATLONA AT-DP400 Dual Link DVI to Mini Display Port Converter
    - Monoprice Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI®, DVI & DisplayPort Adapter
    My experience:
    - Altona didn't work at all, and their support claimed it would not.
    - Monoprice didn't work to Dual DVI, it did work to HDMI (great price I wish it did)
    - Apple Mini Displayport adapter did work, but would only work with certain USB + Display port combos.
The thing that was tripping me up was that two of the Dual DVI-D cords were bad.  Once I found the working cord, it was easier to find the working adapter.  The experience I did find to be a frustrating / expensive one. However, the Monitor itself is beautiful.
    Hopefully this helps someone else..

  • Dual 2560x1440 monitors on MacBook Pro

    Hello,
Will the current 15" Retina MacBook Pro support 2560x1440 resolution through it's HDMI port? I would like to run dual 2560x1440 resolution monitors and would like to power one via Display Port and the other via the HDMI port if it's possible.
I did see Using 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with Mac computers - Apple Support but was not sure if anything between 1920x1200 and 3840x2160 would work.
    Thanks!

Can't OP run one display from each of the Thunderbolt connections on his MacBook Pro Retina machine (with the thunderbolt to whatever adapter) OR the HDMI? MacTracker says "support for two Thunderbolt displays" in the "Memory and Graphics" tab.
I don't have one so not sure, but MacTracker is pretty good about this sort of stuff. Also OP might want to look at How to setup dual external monitors on a MacBook Pro 15" A1398? and am sure there are others.
    Good luck.......

  • Dual External Monitors with 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2011)

I'm looking for suggestions for using dual external monitors with new MacBook Pro's.  The company I work for has started to puchase these for certain employees and we are looking for any good suggestions.
It appears that the display/thunderbolt port should be able to support many devices but I have not seen any way to hook up multiple displays.  The idea is that these employees would be working with the macbook pro screen closed while in the office and use dual displays.  The only option that I can find is to use a usb device to output video to a second display.  I don't really like that because my experience with these devices is that they usally present a display lag and I know our graphic designers would never go for that.
One employee suggested that he use the VGA adapter and then get a VGA splitter.  I'm not exacty certain that would work though. Wouldn't that just mirror the display on two screens instead of allowing an extended desktop?  Also it looks like expensive Apple displays have ports so that you can daisy chain thunderbolt devices out of those monitors but this company will not go for the cost of those displays.
Am I missing anything?  Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks!

Look into the Matrox Dualhead2Go DP Edition. If it works with Thunderbolt Macs, it will support two identical 1920 x 1080 DVI monitors as one extended desktop. Verify with Matrox that it is Thunderbolt-compatible and will suit your purposes before ordering.

  • Dual 30" monitors - - best video card?

I’m a PC user - - please don’t throw rocks (or apples) at me - - and I want to replace my present dual 19” monitors with two Apple 30” ACDs - - side by side for a 5120x1600 desktop. My Windows box will accept a PCI-e x16 video card.
I’ve been considering either the nVidia Quadro FX 3500 or the ATI FireGL V7200.
Doe anybody have experience with either or both of these cards? Any suggestions as to other cards which will support two monitors that each require a dual-link DVI port?
    Thanks,
    -Nick

it would seem to me that the obvious answer is one of the new NVidia 8800GTX cards. DX10 support, Open GL2.0, HDCP, some even have out of the box water cooling fittings if you need a cool / silent machine.
the cards you mentined are workstation class cards, which do have driver support for certain applications, but my take on workstation class cards is that they do not necessarily have the power of the new gaming cards (gaming is NVidia and ATI's focus, because of demand) and are much more expensive. I think that the driver support that is enjoyed with CAD/CAM products is opposite with general purpose software.
with the cost of the 8800GTX, it is almost a free experiment given the cost of FX cards to see if it works for you. my one suspicion is the immature drivers currently available for 8800 cards. that should be resolved pretty quickly, however.

  • Connecting Thinkpad Yoga to Dual VGA Monitors

I recently received my Thinkpad Yoga, and would like to connect it to dual external monitors (I will only be using those two monitors, not the laptop monitor) that both have VGA connectors. My original thought was to get the Thinkpad Onelink Pro Dock but as near as I can tell that only has the DVI connectors on the back. I suppose I could get that, then get a DVI -> VGA connector, but just wanted to check in here to see if anybody else had any better / less complicated / less expensive solutions to this.
    Many thanks,

  • Dual DVI Monitor KVM

Hi, I like to know if there is any one have experience using a dual DVI monitor kvm switch with Mac Pro successfully. I own a 'Uniclass' 2-port dual dvi kvm, so I can share the dual monitor with another Linux box. However, it works on the Linux box, but when I tried to switch to Mac Pro, all I can see it works just in the beginning before the OS X load, that is the grey apple and small spinning circle on primary monitor, then the monitor lost the signal.
If you have successful story, can you let me know which brand of kvm you are using? Thanks in advance.

I'm using a RATOC Systems switch with mine. It supports
dual monitors but I only have one monitor so i only use it
like that. The model I have doesn't seem to be available
in the USA. Only Japan where I live. Here's a analogue
switch that they make however. Two of these would probably
work if you don't mind going throught the analogue 15pin
    conversion.

I guess since that page is one of the few offerend in English
that it's available in the USA.
    My RATOC KVM is dual monitor / KB / Mouse / Line-in / Line-out
for 4 PCs and cost about $150. Switchable either by a button
on the KVM Box or by a KB HotKey sequence. Mine is made
for PCs but it's working fine with the MacPro.

  • Dual 4K Monitors on 2013 15" Retina Macbook Pro?

Sorry in advance if any of this has already been covered in another forum, but I've not been able to find it anywhere.
I'm looking into buying a pair of monitors for my Macbook Pro to run in clamshell mode. I have the late 2013 15 in Retina Macbook Pro with the dedicated 2GB Nvidia GT 750M graphics card. I know through online research that the computer is capable of driving two 2560x1440 monitors at 60 Hz, or a single 4K monitor at 60 Hz, however, I have yet to see confirmation of its ability to drive dual 4K monitors at 60 Hz.
Has anyone else tried, or even thought about doing the same thing?

I managed to get hold of Display port 1.2 cable and the issue doesn't occur with it.

  • RWW and dual remote monitors

Can Remote Web Workplace be configured to permit dual remote monitors using Win7 Ultimate at both ends? This is to a workstation, not the server.
Both the workstation and the remote computer have Win7 Ultimate and dual monitors.
    SBS2008 SP2
I can't find a way to activate two remote monitors in RWW. Is it possible? If so, what are the specific steps to "customize" RWW?
    Thanks.

With SBS 2011 yes, not with 2008 R2 as it doesn't have the underlying TS
    guts to allow dual mons.

  • Laptop and Monitor keep refreshing

I have a MBP 2.4 CD2 running 10.6.1. I've connected it to two different external monitors, one Samsung Synchmaster 32" and a Sony 50" HD LCD. Initially the signal is fine and the video is good. After a couple of minutes the screen on both the laptop and the monitor start refreshing, alternating between a blue screen and a black screen. It continues and makes the external option unusable. This happens with both the miniDV out to HDMI and VGA.

I am having the same issue. Both screen go blue for anywhere from a milli-second to seconds. Sometimes moving the mouse corrects, sometimes not. I am using a Sony - HS74P monitor and currently have it setup with Mini DVI to DVI connection. Wondering if I get a Mini DVI to VGA will the issue be resolved?

  • Mac IIcx with dual page monitor. JUNK or Collector Item?

I have an old Mac IIcx with dual page monitor that has been sitting for years. I wanted to see if anyone collects these or if I should just scrap it out ?

    Ken,
We still use our Quadra 700 with a dual page display for all my real estate deed work.  Why mess with something that works.
Do you know of any Mac user groups in your area?  They will know the collectors.  Are you near Washington State?  We have a strong collector base here.  Post back with the name of a large city near you.
The CPU is light enough to ship but the monitor is a beast.  Check with local recyclers to see if they have collectors visiting their facilities on a regular basis.  At a minimum, save the NUBUS monitor card.
