Duplicate and missing files.

Downloaded newset version of iTunes. Half of my files were duplicated and the other half can't be located. Is there any kind of quick fix for this?

I would check out the Troubleshooting Basics page located here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
There is a section on deferring preview generation by holding shift when you launch Aperture.

  • EXS Factory Samples And Sampler Instruments Duplicates and Missing Legacy

since updating and comparing to my macbook which i havent updated, it seems there are missing exs factory samples. for example on new logic 9 there are 2 folders exs factory samples which have 01 through 09 folders. the sampler instruments folder has 01 through 12 and folder 12 legacy instruments which on my mac book in sampler instruments have 01 thru 10 then skips to 26 to 41
ann ex factory folder on mac book 01 thru 10 folders and 10 legacy folder contains 01 thru 10 then skips to 27 thru 38. what is going on . why are there missing files in new upgrade i did on main computer? and how do i get all the exs samples and what should they be?

This problem began,i think in Logic 8.....when you install LP8 normally the EXS instruments and Legacy EXS there were always some missing that I was used to using..I found them eventually, they were now part of the the Garageband instrument Library.
I went back and searched all the install DVDs until I found them showing up..some EXS instruments would be missing the actual samples which were now part of the Garageband instrument library,Attitude Bass being one I remember off hand.
I just copied all the Instruments and samples I needed and got rid of the rest which amounts to a lot of space being freed up.
Now I just keep a backup of all my EXS files on external drive so I dont need to install them every upgrade as in Logic 9 (which I checked just in case there were any new files etc!)..which also sorts out the duplicate files headache.
    Hope this helps.....

  • Windows 7 Compatability with Labview 8.0 and missing files while interfacing the FPGA with LV

I am trying to use an FPGA (PCI-7830R) with Labview 8.0. The computer has Windows 7 OS. I installed LV 8.0 in the proper order with the FPGA Module and labview is able to see the FPGA when I open a .lvproj (the FPGA is in the tree) however there is a warning symbol next to the FPGA selection and when I try to open a .vi file that is used on the other stations in my lab (it works on all the other stations), labview is unable to find a whole bunch of files. There are some pictures.

  • Lots of *filename*_edTMP and missing files in PSE10

    Hi,
I'm running a trial of PSE10 Premier on my Windows 7 64bit laptop with a 2ghz processor and 4GB of RAM. All my images are stored in C:\Users\Public\Pictures\ then sub folders.
In several batches I've imported about 7500 pictures. As each batch was imported from the folder I did some basic tagging, country, name of trip etc. At some point I did a "write keyword tag and properties info to photos". At some point later I noticed a pop up box about missing files and that some pictures have a question mark on them.
I had a dig in the folder where the picture should be and the image that was named P1000973 is now named P1000973_edTMP-1. This prompted me to search for all files that end _edTMP-* and there are 3767. Some of them, 41, have a file size that is what I would expect for the image and some of them have no file size,3726.
I'm hoping someone can advise what's going on .... how to resolve it .... and if this is likely to happen on my next import?
I'd rather expected that an Adobe product wouldn't have these types of problems, luckily for me I haven't paid for the product.
I've had a dig through the forum and I can see various users reporting the same issue for previous versions of PSE but not 10.
    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

    Hi,
    Hi,
    Now my queries are
    1) What is cause behind the generation of these files?
These file are generated due to the trace level that you have set in your system for the Java. All the action performed in the JAVA is recorded in these files.
    2) What are parameters which governs the size of these files?
Goto Visual Admin and then ServerNode then services then Log Configurator from here you can enable more trace as per your requirment.
    3) Suggestions to reduce the generation as well as size of these files.
If you want you can reduce the trace in the Log Configuration.

  • Working with duplicates and combining files

I'm new and trying to learn how to properly use Itunes. I am currently importing all my cd's onto an external drive (F Drive). Apparently after reboots ITunes sometimes imported the songs on the default C drive and not the F drive(which I did not realize until now). Now I know to change it back to the F drive when I reboot. My problem is that somehow I have copies of some of the albums on my C drive and some on the F drive as well as duplicates on both. Not sure what I did to get the duplicates. Here is my problem. For example, I have a folder of Brad Paisley on C drive that contains Mudd on the Tires, Time Well Wasted and Who Needs Pictures. On the F drive it only has Mudd on the Tires and Brad Paisley II. So I have one duplicate and one that wasn't on my C drive. I have a lot of folders in this manner. How do I go about getting ITunes to copy only the folders I need to transfer to the F drive? I did a try a couple and ITunes copied them and duplicated so many songs so now I have to go through them and delete them dups (which are hundreds!). I also tried to just drag them from C to F drive but it of course copies over the Brad Paisley folder and you lose some of the albums depending on which folder you pasted over. I was manually going through each folder and comparing them and dragging just the album to the F folder that was missing on the C drive. But this is taking forever. Is there a quicker way? Also is there a quick way to delete all the duplicates? And one more question, the F drive has most of my song with star ratings but the C drive does not have any star ratings. Is there a way to import and/or transfer the music without losing the star ratings I have? I'm working with about 10,000 songs so that is why these are such enormous tasks.
Sorry for the long explination. I just wanted to make sure I was being clear on my question. I hope there is an easier way and that someone will share their knowledge. Thanks so much.
P.S. Is there a book you suggest that will help me or is it best just to ask questions as they come up here? Thanks again.

  • Qmaster and Missing files

    Hi all!
I have a small Qmaster queue up and running (surprisingly) for Final Cut Pro 5.1. It runs smoothly most of the time, but when a user submits a job with a missing file, each node pops a window asking if you would like to reconnect the media or to continue. These windows stay on the system and block the node from doing any further work until I find out about the problem, and clear the pop up window.
I'd like to know if there is a way to block these windows from popping up by choosing a default "continue" behavior, or better yet to error out. I looked through all the prefs and couldn't really come up with anything.
Any other ideas on how to get around this problem? I've trained the users to preflight their files, but this is going to pop up no matter how many times I hit them over the head. Thanks!

I agree. It would be. But when you are dealing with many different users, mistakes happen occasionally. A mistake in this case means any node that picked up the job is hung until someone clicks a little pop up window on each of the nodes.
I understand where you are coming from, but it's my job to make sure the nodes are always running properly. I can't ultimately control whether a user submits a job with a piece of media local to the machine unless I stand in each of the rooms at all times.
The only way I can see to guarantee that the nodes don't get hung up for this problem is to figure out a way for the system to deal with a missing file when and if it occurs.

  • Upgraded hard drive and missing files

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my HD (1TB Seagate) to an SSD (Crucial MX 100 512GB) on my mid-2010 C2D 2.4 white unibody macbook. Total disk space used has been around 300GB. I used time machine to backup the drive before switching the drives, and after installing the new drive (Crucial MX100), I am missing many files. Mostly .pdf, and office files. All of my photos and music seem to have transferred fine. I had to re-enter the product keys for office. Is there a way I can connect to the former drive w/ an enclosure and scan for files that are on that drive and not on the new one? I've had the drive installed for about a month, so I don't want to revert back to the last backup if I would lose the files I've created since then.
    Thanks.

You are welcome. See if you can find the files using this program. If you go Finder/View/Show Path Bar, it will show you where it is located.

  • Software to clean duplicate and unnecessary files

    Hello
I was looking for a safe app or software that can clean extra and unnecessary files off of my imac - has anyone tried anything that they trust will work?
I am not well enough versed to just start deleting files - and would probably delete something that was needed
any help would be greatly appreciated

Here are some general tips to keep your Mac's hard drive trim and slim as possible
You should never, EVER let a computer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto or Aperture, both have its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you are an iMovie/ Final Cut user, both apps have their own individual Trash location that needs to be emptied, too!
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
To find other large files, download an app called Omni Disk Sweeper.
    http://www.omnigroup.com/more
    Also, Find Any File
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.php
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

  • ITunes duplicates and moving files

Hello, I am using windows xp. I am also not very adept at these kind of things. I have looked for answers on line and tried some, but it seems to get me in more trouble.
I have added 8 play lists. Some are audio lectures, some are music. In my itunes music library I have many duplicates, but when I ask to show duplicates they do not show up as such. Should I manually remove by titles. Also, I have tried to edit my play lists (dragginhg in and out) and that seems to make more duplicates or a message says that the file cannot be found.
Thank you for any help or directions to answers somewhere.
    Tod
    averatec 2200   Windows XP

Are you sure they are duplicates?
A playlist is just that. A list of songs from the library.
A song in a playlist is not a duplicate of something in the library.
EVERYTHING in iTunes is in the libray.
Drag from iTunes to a playlist.
You can have the same thing in a playlist any number of times but it is only in the library one time.
If you write the name of your songs on list, you don't have more of the same songs.

  • Experts: library consolidation, duplicates, and missing originals

iPhoto Jedi's: here the challenge. I've got 3 iPhoto libraries on 3 machines. They all need to be consolidated into one master library. One of the libraries now has missing originals, but some of them were backed up, some not. I attempted to import one of the missing originals from a backup, it came in, but the old preview stayed, and it didn't pop the duplicate image warning.
So... what's the best way to merge libraries, and not end up with a zillion duplicates?
    Thanks in advance.

The only way to merge libraries, including all versions and metadata is with iPhoto Library Manager ($20) and its Merge command. This can be set to avoid duplicates.

  • Rebuilding iPhoto database and missing files

    Heya,
I got a corrupt iPhoto6 database after a power failure (but had a backup) while travelling. I didnt have the backup drive handy(was far away), so I kept adding new files to this corrupt database. I also began making modifications.
Now I want the two together and keep all the modifications too. I foolishly thought I could: add to the backup the new "rolls" with the Originals and Modified folders and then rebuild the database.
Why 'rebuilding the database' doesnt involve scanning through these two directories I don't know, because this doesnt work. I thought maybe the permissions were wrong, but that doesnt seem to be it.
So what the best way - while retaining the modifications Ive made to my new rolls - to add everything back to the Master/non-corrupted database. A Merge with iPhoto Library Manager? Could a rebuilt with it work(Looks like no, since it only scans the xml file).
    cheers,
    matt
Intel Mac mini Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Matt:
Here's what I think is your only option to retain some of the modifications that are in the library and get all of your photos back.
    1 - create a new library.
2 - with the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager copy all of the albums and rolls from the current library into the new one. This will retain your rolls and albums, keywords, and comments but not slideshows, books, etc.
3 - copy the Originals folder from the current library to the desktop.
4 - drag the Originals folder into the open iPhoto window. You should get a window asking if you want to import duplicates or not - select not.
That will give you the closest you can get to what you had before the crash with the after crash modifications.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Network Shares and Missing Files on Windows 2000

Music files are stored on a Windows Server in a shared folder. iTunes 5.0 is installed on a laptop. Using the advanced preferences the iTunes Music folder location is changed to:
Desktop --> My Network Places --> Music
    The folder location changes to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\User\Nethood\Music
    instead of:
    \\ServerName\Music
When updating a podcast, a file is downloaded and can be played, but it is not stored on the server. A search on the local drive will not find anything -- HOWEVER IT IS THERE. Using the command prompt the file can be seen at:
    C:\Documents and Settings\User\Nethood\Music\Podcasts\Podcaster\Filename.mp3.
This is confusing behavior to have a file that's supposed to be stored on a server end up in a hidden file on your local drive.
RESOLUTION: Created a mapped network drive and used that for the iTunes Music folder location.

Without more information about what you've already tried and how you're networked together, I can only suggest that while in the Finder on your Mac, select Go --> Connect to Server... and enter something like "smb://ipAddress" where ipAddress is the IP address of your Windows computer.
If your computers are on a network where you have a home router, verify that they can both access the Internet. If so, they should be able to communicate with each other.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Itunes error 1418 and missing file

I plug my ipod into USB port and low and behold it starts to sync.
Then maybe fifteen seconds later, a message pops up that says
"Unable to sync ipod, required file cannot be found"
    Or something of the like.
Click OK. It goes into a loop where it trys to sync, but cannot.
Finally, manage to clik restore. After attempting to restore ipod, message comes up:
"Ipod cannot be restored. Unknown error occured (1418)
    What does this all mean!
And is there any way I can get my lovely ipod working again?

After getting that error, my 30 gig iPod became a really expensive paper weight. Google the error. There are a lot of different fixes out there. I got mine working briefly, but it simply died again. I spent far too much time and energy trying to fix it. I'm sorry you have to deal with this. It's exasperating.
