Duplicate Member Outline and Loading Shared Members

I have an outline where I want to allow duplicate member names but in some cases I will need shared members. I am trying to build the outline parent child and I cannot get it to understand the fact that I want a shared member.
Here is an example:
[market],east
[market],west
[market],other
[market].[east], nj
[market].[east], ny
[market].[west], ca
[market].[west], lv
[market].[other],[market].[west].[lv] <--- this should be shared
[market].[other],ny <--- this should not be shared
Does anyone know how to do this?

If you would like to less the charecters and if you are retrieving the data using SQL, then you could using the Substr function to restrict the characters to 80 substr( string, start_position, [ length ] )

Will not it cause probles when loading shared members first before the original ones?
I thought that DataStorage only accpet values like StoreData, NeverShare etc.
    I will try it out.

  • Discussion on load-balance and load-sharing

Hi, I found a article, which discuss the difference between load-balance and load-sharing. I think the explanation is pretty good, please see below. But I still have a question: how can we decide to choose one the both balance in the production environment ?  Thank you
"In short, load balancing tries to distribute traffic evenly over multiple paths, whereas, load sharing intends to do it (for the lack of a better term) equally.  True load balancing is difficult to achieve.  For example, let's say there were two links (100 mbps and 300 mpbs) and a router needed to send out 600 mbps of traffic.  Load balancing would distribute the traffic evenly, sending 300 mbps on each link.  On the contrary, load sharing would divide the traffic equally based on the available resources, sending 200 mbps on the slower link and 400 mbps on the faster one. "

That's not how Cisco uses the terms, and generically they are often used almost interchangeably.
Cisco uses load balancing as the catch all for how a single L3 device routes across multiple paths to the same destination.  Equal metrics or equal actual load distribution are not required.  Most often, load balancing will be discussed with ECMP, but unequal path loading balancing will include Cisco's proprietary IGPs, such as EIGRP.
Cisco uses load sharing when using multiple paths when a single L3 devices doesn't normally route across multiple paths or multiple L3 devices are involved.  Cisco load sharing discussions usually revolve around BGP.
Generically, I would say load balancing has more of a dynamic aspect to it, i.e. something is trying to actively balance traffic across multiple paths, while load sharing might mean multiple paths are utilized but not actively dynamically balanced.
I'm unsure what's your question with a production environment.

  • How to load shared members into a duplicate outline using load rules

Hello, I am trying to load an alternate hierarchy into the same dimension in an outline that accepts duplicate members using EAS load rules ... there is no property for shared members so i can't specify it in the load rule .. i tried using parent child and it is not working - no shared members are loaded in the alternate hierarchy .. any ideas? would another utility make it happen?

  • Building RULES file to load shared members in Aggregate storgage outline

    Hi there
I posted this yesterday (sorry, somewhat different subject description). I am trying to create an alternate hierarchy containing shared members using a load rule and flat file in an Aggregate Storage outline. One response was to remove the "allow moves" option and use parent child build in the load rule. I tried that and it did not work. i was pointed to a section in the essbase guide (which is about as clear as mud), and still cannot get this to work. First of all - can you do this with an ASO outline? If so, how? I tried a simple 6 line flat file and recreated the load rule based on the above recommendations and it will not the shared members. Can someone out there help?
    thanks

Here is an example in the simplest form.
Create Aso db (duplicate members names not selected)
Create Product dimension member, set to "Multiple Hieararchies Enabled", (though probably would work if dynamic)
Create load rule, set as parent/child dimension build for product, make sure allow moves is not ticked.
    Data file
    Parent,Child
    100,100-20
    200,200-20
    Diet,100-20
Assign field properties in rule for Parent.Child
Load data, 100-20 will be created as shared.
    Cheers

  • Ace 4710 - same context routed and load-sharing

    Hi All
Can an ACE 4710 have , in the same context - servers which are
    a. just being routed to
    b. a set of load-shared servers
I have been told you may not be able to do this on this version
Does anyone know if this is correct
    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi Boris
I have been on the ACE course and before we install the 4700 box i have been
asked to set up a test setup.
This would involve have a context which would have one ip address range and
a few pcs (pretending to be servers ) and one which would be just routed.
A colleague of mine seemed to think that something had been said on the course
to the effect that if the ACE was deployed  in line the you couldnt have some
of your servers in load-sharing and some just routed on the same subnet and
    in the same context.

  • BGP requirements and load sharing

    Hi !
I have been reading memory requirements for running BGP. But, for a tipical scenario with dual ISP for load sharing which are the requirements for the router ?
Could we use a 1841 or thinking about 37x5 or higher router ? I know that it depends on size for routing table, AS, and so on but what is the rule of thumb for choosing the correct router ?
    Thanks

Routes is one constraint and traffic is one more and the kind of policies i apply would be another. If i took a default from my upstream with about 1 MB of traffic, i would definitely look at 1841. If received routes ( atleast 20,000) and about 1 MB or 2 MB and 2 or more upstreams, I may even settle for a 3850.

  • MPLS-TE and Load sharing?

    Hi,
I have been reading and searching for a long time,
I have an issue with MPLS-TE, ok, let me explain..
    We have
    PE(7600) -> MPLS-network <- PE(7300)
We have EoMPLS connection between these points
over 2x STM-1, and we want to lets say,
    STM1(tunnel0) take 155Mbit of link1, and
    STM1(tunnel1) take 155Mbit of link2, so
we could get full use of both links,
I use exact path option, and everythings
works, but, the traffic seems to choose only
    the one of the tunnels..
Then the question is, with the tag-switching,
does the traffic tunnels go with the CEF switching
    so, src->dst flows occurs?
    Because if i did like,
    show ip cef dstip internal
I saw the load sharing all fine..

    Solved,
Sorry, I found another conversation that pointed
    my conclusion out,

  • Creating the outline and Loading data for TBC in 11.1.2.2

Hi all, feelin kinda dumb here because this task really should not be as difficult as it seems.
I am trying to Load the TBC application in 11.1.2.2 Essbase. I have followed the documentation to
    1. Install EIS
    2. create the metadata repository and load the xml file provided
I now need to create the essbase cube from this metadata repository, I cannot seem to find any real steps as to how to do this, everything I found was pertaining to creating the repository. Can anyone help define what needs to be done and what steps I need to take, I am new to EIS and Studio so the simpler the better :)
    thanx

thanx, this did give me a better understanding of essbase studio, thank you. It did not help so much as getting the structure and data from the repository into essbase. For that from what I understand I can import models from EIS (where I loaded the TBC) one. In doing this I get an error saying that it cannot find any models (which I know are there because I can look at them in EIS. Unfortunately, looking over other posts, I installed Studio on a 64 bit server, which may be the issue I am facing (I hope)
I am going to try and reinstall studio on a 32 bit platform and try the import again.

    Hi Glenn,
Thanks for the reply. The hierarchy Branch->Account->MonthYear->Flag is always unique row in the base table. Flag is 'Y' or 'N'. I want Branchwise, accountwise, monthwise and flagwise consolidated amounts (debit and credit). Flag indicate that the transactions is from base branch or other.
The data in the base table is:
    ACCOUNTNO     | BRANCH     | TRANSACTIONDATE     | DEPOSITORWITHDRAWAL     | Flag     | AMOUNT
    305080000033     | 7500     | 9/1/2007               |      W                    | Y     | 12000

  • Redundancy and load sharing on more than 2 CSS's

    Hello,
I have configured VIP, virtual interface and ASR on a pair of CSS's before. Currently, I have some VIP on CSS1 and some other VIP on CSS2 for resilience.
Because of performance issue (actually a fear for performance issue instead of real) I am looking into scaling up to 3 or more CSS's. I think I can have VIP and virtual interface redundancy on 3 or more CSS's but not ASR. Is it true?
    Any advice will be welcomed.
    CT Yau
    Hong Kong

normally vip redundancy and asr are for pair of css only.
I think you can do vip redundancy with more than 2 CSS but it is officially not supported.
You can however have multiple VRRP group per interface and therefore combine your CSS by pair [a-b,b-c,a-c]
ASR is definitely not going to work with more than 2 CSS.

  • Shared Members in Duplicate Members Hierarchy

It seems that many people have asked this question on this forum but I am yet to find a solution.  Most of the posts were about 5 years old so I am hoping maybe something new has happened since.
I have a dimension that has a regular and alternate hierarchy (shared members).  I have changed this dimension to duplicate members enabled.  Once I have this turned on, my regular dimension build rule no longer creates shared members but instead creates a new member of the same name.  I cannot find any property that I can put in the dimension load rule to specifically tag members as shared.  The only way that I can change it is in EAS one by one.  Is there any fix that allows me to load shared members through a load rule with duplicate members enabled?

You may have seen my posts on this on Network54 from 2007 or so while you were searching.  I could never find a way to do this, and there is no property to tag members as "Shared" to the best of my knowledge.  I tried it again quite recently (in 11.1.2.3.500) and got the same result.

  • Multiple shared members in ASO outline

<BR>I am building an outline with one primary and three alternate hierarchies within one of the dimensions of an Aggregate Storage (ASO) cube. All of the leaf members in each of the alternate hierarchies are shared members of a member in the primary hierarchy. The non-shared member is a leaf in some cases and a summary point in others. All hierarchies are stored. <BR><BR>When I try to save the outline, I get a long list of verification errors. For the stored members to which the shared members refer, Essbase is complaining that "This member has multiple copies of same shared member in at least one stored hierarchy. See other messages for which members and which hierarchies." For the shared members, Essbase complains that "Aggregate storage outlines only allow a shared member once in a stored hierarchy." For the alternate hierarchies, Essbase complains that "This stored hierarchy has multiple copies of same shared member. Remove extra member or change hierarchy to be dynamic."<BR><BR>However, I did a find on a handful of the members that Essbase was complaining about and in all cases have found only one instance of each shared member in each alternate hierarchy. The same shared member might appear in two or more alternate hierarchies, but I have not found a case where it appears more than once in the same hierarchy.<BR><BR>I have also ensure the following:<BR><UL>The primary hierarchy occurs first in the outline, so non-shared members always appear before any instances of any of the shared members.</UL><BR><UL>There are no shared members in the primary hierarchy.</UL><BR><UL>All members, non-shared and shared, are in the same dimension.</UL><BR><UL>Non of the stored hierarchies contain both a non-shared instance and a shared instance of the same member.</UL><BR><BR>I have tried making the alternate hierarchies dynamic, but query retrievals are so slow that they're completely unacceptable to the client.<BR><BR>Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Is there a solution to this?<BR>

I heard back from Hyperion Tech Support again. Turns out it's not a defect after all. It's actually a subtle technicality in the restrictions on shared members with ASO. The first restriction, which is explained in the outline verification error message, is that you can only have one instance of a shared member within a given stored alternate hierarchy. The second restriction is that you cannot have any shared members within a given stored alternate hierarchy where the non-shared instances of the members are ancestors/descendants of each other. Unfortunately, when this restriction is violated, EAS gives the same error message as it does for the first restriction, so it's a bit harder to debug.<BR><BR>Hope this saves someone some grief.<BR>-Silvester

    Please help me out.
    thanks,

am still not able to sort out the above problem. can some one please help me to load shared members to EPMA shared library ?
