Duplicate Project Problem

I'm using FCP X 10.0.7
I have a project that i want to duplicate to an external HD (a Lacie Thunderbolt) for both backup and - perhaps more importantly - so that I can plug that external HD into my laptop with FCP X and open the project on there as well. I have done this in the past and it works fine.
This time I've obviously done something wrong and am not sure what.
I chose "Duplicate Project + Used Clips" and chose the external disc as the destination.
The duplication takes place.
On my desktop computer (27inch iMac running Lion 10.7.5 with a Intel Core i7) when I check to make sure the duplication was successful, I'm able to see that everything has been moved - including the original media. However, when I plug the external drive into my MacBook Pro (2.3 Intel Core i7 - same OS as desktop) every single file is the dredded red "Missing File". Furthermore, when I look at the actual files using Finder on the laptop, the Original Media Files are all "Alias" files. When I look at those same files on the desktop, they are original QT files. When I attempt to "Relink Project Files" on the laptop I get a message that says it can't find the files, despite me searching for them on the external HD where I thought I'd copied them.
Anyone out there help?

This happens when the media was not copied into the event folder when it was imported. You should use the organize media function.

I really appreciate the Duplicate Project Structure feature in A3. I can set up a default structure while I am on the road and simply duplicate it for each days shoot. However I ran into a problem...
If I have a Smart Album, say for "3 stars and above" in the root of the original project and then duplicate the Project, the new Smart Album works fine.
However if I have a folder inside the Project, say "By Rating" and then put my Smart Album inside the folder, when I duplicate the Project, the new Smart Album now points to the "By Rating" folder, and images with 3 stars and above do NOT show up.
Of course I can change each Smart Album to point to the new project, but I have many albums in each project, and this kind of defeats the purpose of being able to duplicate the project to begin with.
Has anyone found a workaround for this?

IMovie09 won't "duplicate project", erases projects

Hi. I have been having problems with my iMovie09. First, whenever I quit iMovie, when I go back to it, my Project has disappeared. One time it disappeared completely, and then when I re-made the project, and quit again, I came back to iMovie to find that it had kept only the 4-second-long "title page" of my project, and threw out the rest. In the HD, the name of the project still appeared, but I could not get anything but the 4-second-long version to appear anywhere. I even copied the original project onto a flash drive in the hopes that that way I'd have a "Safe" copy somewhere, but again, I can't access that copy in any way, shape or form.
Second problem: Now, I have re-made my project again, and before I quit and have iMovie trash the project again, I thought I'd make a duplicate of the project. Should be easy, right, since there's a "duplicate project" button right there in the File menu!?? But no. No duplicate appears in the Project Library. It still says "1 project". I looked in the HD iMovie project folder, and again found that the copies appeared there. But I can't access them. HELP!! I've looked at all kinds of tutorials and discussion forums, and no-one addresses this problem with a solution.
I have already tried these "solutions" that failed: 1. Trashing the iMovie preferences and re-starting; 2. making sure the movies are in the imovie project folder. (They are there, and were never moved elsewhere, but that is not helping me the way it seemed to have helped others.....)

I'm having kind of a similar problem. Not all of my photos appear in imovie, when I select iphoto. I've tried flagging them, but when I look at the flagged section in imovie, it tells me I have 0 results. I've tried putting them into an album, but when I select the album in imovie, it tells me that album is empty. I've tried adding them to an event, and, same deal, open imovie, and they're just not there.
I also tried dragging and dropping directly from iphoto - it won't let me, and I tried dragging and dropping from finder - won't let me. I have three scanned pics of ultrasound photos, done identically, one shows up just fine, the other two, not at all. I can't imagine what is different about them.
Same deal with a movie I wanted to make for my mom - I made an album in iphoto with all her pics in it - in imovie, only half the pics in the album show up.
I don't even know how to find out if the photos are jpeg, or what. I try clicking info, but all I get is that useless thing that has "description" and whatnot. How do you get actual info on a photo?

Modifications made to duplicate projects in FCP X also made to the original

Hi.
I'm basically trying to make a "save as" version of a project so I can change what I have without risk of losing everything I've done. But every time I save a new version of the project (and even rename it, store it on another drive, etc.), the changes I make to the new version are also made to the original. So it's pointless. I'm also not getting the popup "duplicate project" window (which should give me a choice of where and how to save the project) I'm supposed to get when I click on "Duplicate Project." What am I doing wrong? Or: How can I simply save a fixed version of my project?

I have no idea why it is not working correctly.
Here's what it is supposed to do:
Duplicate projects as snapshots
The Duplicate as Snapshot command creates a self-contained copy of a project containing compound clips or multicam clips. Specifically, duplicating a project as a snapshot makes copies of the compound or multicam “parent” clips and embeds them in the project so that any changes to other instances of the clips do not affect the snapshot.
My suggestion is to trash the FCP X preferences in case there is an internal issue.

Anyone know if the long standing duplicate files problem with File History has been fixed yet?

There are loads of public threads about the duplicate files problem
with Windows 8/8.1 File History backup system.
From all the threads I've looked at, there seems to be no solution,
and no acknowledgement from MS that they can even repro the problem
(which surprises me considerably as there are so many people who
notice the problem).
Is anyone aware of whether MS (may) have fixed this for Win10?
Are MS aware of the problem and if they're able to fix it?

Aren't we all? Windows is software I use too many hours every day, I
along with many millions of others need it to work really well. You
are not alone.
When they implement something that doesn't work, and even if it did work doesn't do what's needed - and/beyond that/ they remove features people DO need (such as the GUI for Windows Backup), I see no wrong in advising people of the way things
really are.
File History essentially does work - it's saved me a couple of times
in the past couple of weeks. It just has a highly annoying habit of
creating 100% duplicates of some files for no apparent reason. If MS
have fixed that I won't have any known complaints about it.
If you don't like it, you don't have to use it. I generally like it, I
just want to see that its fixed.

Where has "Duplicate Project + Used Clips" gone in 10.2 ?

I want to backup my project and all the media it uses to an external hard drive.
In 10.1 I could use, Duplicate Project + Used Clips , but where is that in 10.2?

I'm assuming you mean 10.1.2, not 10.0.2. For the recent version, connect the external drive. Make a new library on it and set the library properties to be managed media, so the media in inside the library. Drag the project from the existing event on your drive to the event on the external drive, that will copy the project and the used media to that event. You'll also have the option to copy render and optimized media. I'd forget about that. Mail the drive and your colleague should be good to go.

Deleting duplicate projects.

Brand new to Aperture and relatively new to Mac. Just installed Aperture and imported my 30,000 photos from I-photo. I have numerous duplicate projects because my initial uploads to I-photo came from old PC hard drives, I-phones, cameras that had already been uploaded to the old hard drives, etc. With the duplicate Aperture projects that I now have, am I now safe to delete one of the projects without affecting the other duplicate project, and if so, will this also entirely remove the files from the hard drive? Deleting one project shouldn't affect other projects, as each has its own master photos. If you delete the project, AND the photos are managed (i.e. in the Aperture library), then it should remove the files from the HD.
Be SURE you have a backup. I'd recommend an up-to-date vault before you go about doing anything, so you can be sure.

Duplicate Project + Used Clips Only not working as expected.

I am revisiting this once again and have had some good information on the matter, but I am not getting the results I think I should.

I want to archive ONLY the project and clips used for a project.
If I export my project using the current settings (ProRes) then shouldn't the Duplicate Project and Used Clips only feature give me a a backup that is roughly the same size as my exported Quicktime?
Currewntly when I use any of the Duplicate operations other than the 1st, all media is duplicated, not just what is needed.
Has anyone had success with just getting what you need for the project?
The reason why I don't want to archive all of the media outside the project is due to hard drive space. I have the camera raws backed up already. I just want to be able to open the project again if needed and only the project with necessary media.

When you say " I also changed the default start to 7:30 and end 4:30", are you talking about the
project information in the project tab? You're supposed to be able to specify only one of the parameters (start date or finish date) depending if you're back-planning or not.
Check if the option "ignore resource calendar" on the task if checked.
Also try to press F9.
Are the task manually scheduled? Do you have constraints on the tasks?
Maybe share a screenshot so it'll be easier to help you.

Versions naming conventions on Duplicate Project

I love adding "v001" at the end of project name, but when I duplicate the project:
[project name] v001
[project name] v001 1
[project name] v001 2
and I hope it will be:
[project name] v001
[project name] v002
[project name] v003
and I found if you fcpx just allow this naming convention
[project name] 1
[project name] 2
[project name] 3
and I thought it was the "v" problem, then I remove the v from "v001", it results:
[project name] 001
[project name] 2
[project name] 3
the "00" disappear! so will fcpx fix that? so I can use v001, v002 or someone v01, v02 or 001,002,003

As for track, channel, mixer naming...what a nightmare! I often land up having to rename almost everything twice per session and even then the mixer often displays something else! I'm almost at the point of having to just ignore names and go by region names and track numbers instead.
Create the amount of audio tracks you want and double click on their title (i.e. Audio 1, Audio 2 etc) on the arrangement layout or their title on the mixer layout and rename the track/s to what you want before you record.
If you forget to do this prior to recording and you name the tracks later, you can easily rename all the regions at once by selecting region > track names to regions
I would recommend setting up a template file with all your common recording tracks named so that you don't have to do this each time you start a project.

Duplicate records problem

Hi everyone,
I'm having a a little difficulty resolving a problem with a repeating field causing duplication of data in a report I'm working on, and was hoping someone on here can suggest something to help!
My report is designed to detail library issues during a particular period, categorised by the language of the item issued. My problem is that on the sql database that out library management system uses, it is possible for an item to have more than one language listed against it (some books will be in more than one language). When I list the loan records excluding the language data field, I get a list of distinct loan records. Bringing the language data into the report causes the loan record to repeat for each language associated with it, so if a book is both in English and French, it will cause the loan record to appear like this:

So, although the loan only occurred once I have two instances of it in my report.
I am only interested in the language that appears first and I can exclude duplicated records from the report page. I can also count only the distinct records to get an accurate overall total. My problem is that when I group the loan records by language code (I really need to do this as there are millions of loan records held in the database) the distinct count stops being a solution, as when placed at this group level it only excludes duplicates in the respective group level it's placed in. So my report would display something like this:
ENG     1
FRE      1
A distinct count of the whole report would give the correct total of 1, but a cumulative total of the figures calculated at the language code group level would total 2, and be incorrect. I've encountered similar results when using Running Totals evaluating on a formula that excludes repeated loan record no.s from the count, but again when I group on the language code this goes out of the window.
I need to find a way of grouping the loan records by language with a total count of loan records alongside each grouping that accurately reflects how many loans of that language took place.
Is this possible using a calculation formula when there are repeating fields, or do I need to find a way of merging the repeating language fields into one field so that the report would appear like:
LOAN RECORD     LANGUAGE CODE
123456                      ENG, FRE
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as aside from this repeating language data there are quite a few other repeating database fields on the system that it would be nice to report on!

if you create a group by loan
then create a group by language
place the values in the group(loan id in the loan header)
you should only see the loan id 1x.
place the language in the language group you should only see that one time
a group header returns the 1st value of a unique id....
then in order to calculate avoiding the duplicates
use manual running totals
create a set for each summary you want- make sure each set has a different variable name

The reset formula is placed in a group header report header to reset the summary to zero for each unique record it groups by.

Another "duplicate email" problem.

I asked the following question over on the Office 2013 forum and the only response I got basically told me to "go ask this on the Outlook forum", so here goes:
"I too am experiencing rabid email duplication with Outlook 2013. I've found a way to avoid the problem, and also a way to fairly reliably CAUSE it. I'm posting in the hope that this will help Microsoft with information that will allow them
to correct their buggy code.
My configuration:
LAN/Domain network running Server 2008 R2 and a 3rd party (not Microsoft) email server. (Code-Crafters Ability Mail Server).
Physical network is a mix of hard-wired Gigabit Cat6 and wireless (Ubiquiti Pico M2 HP).
A mix of Windows workstations, desktops and laptops running a mix of XP-Pro, Vista Ultimate, Win 7 Pro, and 8.1 Pro.
A mix of Outlook versions, the XP and Vista machines are mostly running Outlook 2003 (yeah, I know, it's ancient but it generally still works fine for these users and they hate change). The 7 and 8.1 users are all on Outlooks 2013 (installed as Office
2013 Professional Plus 2013).
All of the users access their email on the OEM Ability server via IMAP. All users have at least "a couple" of sub-folders defined in their account and all use at least "some" Outlook rules to route some email at both receive and send
time into various folders. Some users have a lot of rules and folders, some have only a small handful. These users also have external IMAP access to their email on the server via their Android phones, generally using the "Type" (formerly
Bluemail) Android email client.
Everything from the server down (including the email server and the domain controller) is mine and under my direct control.
What happens fairly consistently for a few users is this:
If they have Outlook 2013 running on more than one workstation at the same time, eventually it will go insane duplicating a handful of emails, both in the inbox and in one or more of their folders, at the rate of once every few seconds. They are also
connected via their android phone when this happens. All clients (all the Outlook instances and their phones) go nuts trying to send 'new mail' notifications out at a very rapid rate. It's not possible to delete them fast enough to keep up, no
matter how quick they are on the trigger. The emails in question ARE in fact duplicates - everything about them including the header information matches - and they are "real" (the duplicate copies are also visible through the web interface
directly into the email server), so I'm sure the duplication is not just inside the Outlook view of the user's email folder(s).
Stopping all of the user's instances of Outlook stops the duplication. Stopping just the android client does not. If the user shuts down all his/her instances of Outlook and uses the webmail interface to delete all the duplicates (even the 'original'
email) and then starts exactly ONE instance of Outlook 2013, things are fine. Starting a second instance of Outlook 2013 on another machine (for the same user) will eventually cause the duplication to start again. Sometimes immediately, sometimes
not, but in my experience it has always started again within an hour of starting the second Outlook 2013 instance. When it starts, the duplicated mail is the same as before - even though the user previously deleted all copies of it, they 'magically'
start re-appearing.
I'd really like for this to get fixed. Now, before anyone replies, if you're going to just write "you shouldn't run multiple instances of Outlook for the same account from different machines", don't. I don't want to hear
it and the reasons that some of my users want to do this are none of your concern. If it's DOCUMENTED in official Microsoft documentation that this is not a supported action, then I want to see the reference myself. Otherwise, keep it to yourself

Also, don't suggest that I delete and rebuild the user's email profiles and/or email accounts on the server. Been there, done that (multiple times), it doesn't solve the problem.
Dont' suggest that I ditch my existing email server and convert to something else (like Exchange). I happen to like my existing email server (and so do my users). I've already worked this problem with their support structure fairly extensively and
we're both satisfied that the problem is not being caused by their server code.
Finally, don't tell me to run scanpst. Also been there, done that (multiple times) and that too does not fix the problem, so either the problem is somewhere other than in a corrupted pst/ost file, or scanpst is too dumb to find and correct whatever
corruption might exist.
Having said all that, any insights into what's going on?"
Another symptom, which may or may not be related that I'm seeing on one of the problem machines is that Outlook "sometimes" does not show recent email on the user's account. The user can access his email account via direct web access into
the email server and is able to see, sometimes, several days worth of email traffic that does not appear in Outlook (again, using an IMAP connection). Trying various combinations of "send/receive" operations, "folder unsubscribe/subscribe"
operations, even exiting and restarting Outlook all seem to complete with no errors, but also without retrieving the missing email from the server. Sometimes "time goes by" and the user can restart Outlook and the email will appear, but
I've not yet found a way to make it happen.

Update:
I've reading around the different posts and saw somewhere that it might help if i put my username and password in the outgoing mail section (where is says optional). I did that! I then shut off my wifi and tried to send mail using the edge network and it was sent successfully. I will try this when im away from home again. Hopefully this will work.

Loading Project problem in Adobe Ppro CS4

Just registered in this forum and I hope you guys can help me out.
I've been editing in PPro CS4 for quite sometime now and my main problem is during the loading of the project.
here are my specs:
Processor: i7 @ 2.8ghz
OS: Win7 Ultimate 32-bit
RAM: 4GB
VC: ATI HD4670 1GB/128 bit
Storage: C: - 320GB 7200rpm Seagate SATA
D: - 1TB 7200rpm Western Digital SATA
since I upgraded drastically from a Quad 2 Core to an i7 I decided to use the HD1080i30 (60i) preset in Pprocs4 since I have a sanyo xacti1010 HD cam. But up to now I am unable to finish my video because after the project loads up many of my clips turn into green screen while others no longer play the actual clip.
now my questionS are:
1. Is it because my computer can't handle the specific preset or is my camera not compatible with the preset. If not, which preset should I use?
2. If it's not because of the preset, then where can I find the source of the problem? Specs? Software? Me? :|
I'm not the techie type and I am just starting to understand the technical aspects of editing. I hope a lot of you can help me out because I'm losing my mind and I really want to start editing again.

The Xacti uses it's own version of some MPEG4 codec. That works great with applications like Nero or Ulead, typical consumer applications. PR however is more oriented to standard video camera formats, that are shown in the available presets, like AVCHD.
There have been more questions about the Xacti and how to make it work, but I think these are mainly in the Premiere Elements forum. I would look around in the PE forum and do a search. You may come up with relevant asnwers.

Serius project problems - Need help please

Hi,
I'm using adobe premiere and after effects to my last film (this is not the first time). I'm using DV 1280*720 default sound settings (as I did before in other movies). I have an Imac C2D and plenty of hard disk space.
Yesterday when I import new takes and done some light fx's (blur 10% and tint) when I saved the premiere frozen for 30 minutes and then I had to force quit.
When I've tried to open that project again, it just don't open. I've tried everything. See if there was any corrupted file, checked for Hard drive problem (it doesn't have any) and I delete the previous rendered files (as I saw on some tutorial).
At least I could recover that project using autosaved and previous project backup (I take care always of saving backups).
But when I saved again (the new recovered and rendered project) it freezes on quit and there comes again. (it seems that premiere it is getting something from the old(damaged) project and just stack there !!!!!!
The project then it just don't open (I don't see any error message) I just see after 1 hour my premiere freezed and there is no way to see the timeline to fix anything.
I assume that I have to recover again and to all work over and over. I saw some forums talking about adobe "broken links" something related to video files source and corrupted files, but I still don't get it (since premiere doesn't tells me what is going wrong!!!!!!). They talk about deleting MACC file on windows but I'm on a mac. I didn't saw any tutorial about recovering.
whe this thing happens I see my timeline with video and audio. I can render but when I quit the program doesn't load the project again.
Please any help...... I'm working since a month ago on this movie and I need to deleiver that asap.
Is it better to export the video in parts and them join in a new project or there is any other thing that I can do without missing my month of work.

For any reason that I can't explain when I arrived home after day work, I've tried last time before looking my backups and Premiere loaded my project
Before save and quit I've take a look in all file (check the link and where is the source) I found 2 still frames (photos) were lost ( i mean from my hard drive).
My biggest clue now it is, when I deleted some video file before, when I enter the premiere project 1st thing that show it is a windows asking me to "point" where is that file.
But when happens with a photo, premiere doesn't say that this files are lost. It just stucks your project. Any tip to prevent this again?

ps: about your question "Next, please verify your Project/Sequence Presets. Do they match your footage 100%?" I've changed 2 video files, they were pretty bigger than the part I was taking for this project, so I edit and save just the part that I am using.
Btw I've heard that Journaled HFS+ it is not good on Imac to use premiere render option. Is that right?

Multiple Duplicate Message Problem

Each time I check my email, I appear to be downloading all my messages off my mail server as if they have not already been dlowloaded in the past, This means that I am getting multiple and incerasing numbers of duplicate email messages in my inbox. It has just started happening - is this a virus perhaps? Has anyone else had this happen to them??
I am using mailk with btinternet (POP) - I have checked my server and only one copy exists there - it is as if the application seems to have lost the ability to tell the server that it already has specific messages...
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Fix duplicate contacts problem with iOs 5

Have duplicate contacts on iPhone and iPad...sometimes multiple duplicates of same contacts.
Contact in iCloud Sync is turned off.
Contacts managed through Exchange.
Have deleted and re-added Exchange account multiple times. Fixes the problem temporarily.
What's the permanent fix?
