Duplicate search results

Hi ,
I am creating a search model using ESH_MODELER transaction, am using tables like HRP1001 , /shcm/hrp5091, /shcm/hrp5090, BUT0iD, BUT000 etc. On clicking search am getting duplicate entries. Really not sure whats the problem here, has anyone encountered this before?

Hello Brindha,
In TREX rev. 60 - there is a bug in the indexing process permitting duplicate entries in key fields that is what could be causing the duplicate entries in your case. Which TREX revision are you using?
If it is your case, I would advise you to upgrade to the latest revision 63 (note 2110691).

When I search in Spotlight I've noticed that it's not including images in the results that I would expect to find there. e.g. If I type Coniston in the spotlight search field it doesn't find any of the 62 images in iPhoto (6.0.6(322)) that have the word Coniston in their title. According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to disable the “Trim Duplicates” in SharePoint 2013.
In SharePoint 2013, the “Remove Duplicate Results” option has been removed, but we can use the “View Duplicates Link” option.
The TrimDuplicates to specify whether to trim away the duplicate search results from the result set. TrimDuplicates is true by
default.
If you want to disable the feature, as you had said, we should export the web part and modify the
'TrimDuplicates' setting then re-upload it.

How does SharePoint determine files are duplicates in search results?

In the search results, some files are grouped as duplicates (a hyperlink view duplicates appears under the search result).
How does SharePoint determines that 2 files are duplicates?
How does SharePoint determines the one that is shown in the search result (the 'main' file)?
Can we influence both?

I don't know if this helps, but I've been looking into the same problem that's come to light a few times during troubleshooting customised deployments of SharePoint recently. This is my understanding so far (paraphrased from http://blogs.technet.com/harikumh/archive/2008/11/14/some-interesting-facts-about-sharepoint-2007-search.aspx):
Document similarity or matching for the purposes of identifying duplicates is based only on a hash of the content of the document. None of the file properties are used in calculating the hash (i.e. things like filename, author, create and modify dates are not used). The SQL table MSSDuplicateHashes in the SSP’s search database holds all the 64bit hashes necessary to determine if one document is a near-duplicate of another against each indexed document. This table is read while doing a search to determine duplicates if removal of duplicates is enabled.

How to sort web app items based on few fields of it on search result page?

I have a web app and its search. The search results are on multiple pages means it has pagination. My client's requirement is to have a feature which will sort results based on some web app items. for example we have a field price so when user select the price it needs to sort from high to low. Any one have idea how to do it?

I have just been playing around with this for something else, all you need to do is duplicate your price field into the weighting field and it will automatically sort from High to low for you.

SharePoint 2013 public facing site - need to mask url in search results

Hi, we have sp2013 public facing site. Can we mask the display url in search results? Actually we are pointing two urls(ex: A & B) to same web application. Search results are already crawled based on A URL, so when people search in browsing 'B'
URL search results is giving URL with 'A' site. Please let me know if anyone have possible solution.
Can we have more than one url for internet zone in AAM? i browsed in blogs most of them say it is not possible.

How do I get Firefox 12 to open a link from Google search results?

Ever since upgrading to version 12.0, whenever I click on certain links the browser just "reloads" the same page I am on rather than loading the new page in the same tab. When this happens it's not opening the link in a new tab or window, instead just for a second the tab I am on says "connecting" and has the circular busy indicator, and then I'm right where I was before. In order actually follow a link I'm having to context click and then click Open in a new Tab.
On a lot of websites the links follow as usual and open the new page in the same tab. Others don't however, such as the search results page from google. I'm wondering if this is something to do with the new anti-duplicate tab feature, and if so, how do I disable that? I'm on OSX 10.6.8. Thanks.

BP appearing in search results after BP merging process completed

Hi Gurus,
Can some one please throw some light on how to stop the displaying of BP's appearing in search results who have been assigned an archiving indicator (XDELE flag set) in BUT000 table.
The scenario is as follows,
We identify duplicate BP's, for eg- BP1 BP2 and BP3 are identical.
Then BP2 will be confirmed as main BP and correct one.
BP1 and BP3 will be merged to BP2 using the Merge accounts functionality in CRM 7.0 WEB client.
BP1 and BP3 will have archiving indicator (XDELE field set to X in BUT000 table) after merging process.
And the problem starts when agents are searching for BP2, still BP1 and BP3 who have XDELE flag set still appears in search results.
The expectation is we do not want BP's to be appearing in search results that have archiving flag set in BP master record.
Can some one please advise how to achieve this, is there any config step or we have to go for enhancement.

Hello,
You have to use Archiving object - "FI_ACCRECV" to archive Customer Master Data (BP).
When general data for customer master records is archived, the system automatically checks whether the following conditions have been met:
- The deletion flag is set.
- The customer is not locked for deletion.
- Dependent data of the following types no longer exists in the system:
1. Business partner of the customer
2. Company code-specific data (FI data)
3. Sales data (SD data)
4. Transaction figures
5. Special general ledger transaction figures
6. Open items
7. Cleared items in the archive
8. Customer/Vendor links
For the archiving object all the required configurations should be maintained.
If you don't have archive server in place then do not take the option of storing (Just archive and delete the data).

Incorrect Search results number

Hi!
I'm currently working at search center and recently I've noticed that the number of search results in "About xx results" can vary a a lot.
I've found the similar question here: http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/154/t/204676.aspx - the given answer seemed good untill I tried to check the logic and to calculate results count in my test environment.
So, I have 45 total results. One of this results has duplicate. The results are shown by 10 per page. The duplicated results is shown at the first page. If I click on the next pages, I see the following (Im sorry for this clip2net logo, this is not an advertising:)
about 41
about 43
about 44
44 results total
I can't get, why it shows 41 and even 43 on the first 2 pages, while there is only 1 duplicate that might be hidden...
Please help me to understand this logic.
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

I understand that the results count is incorrect in SharePoint Search Results web part.
It is by design that the number on search result web part is a very rough number related to the mechanism within search engine.
It is not accurate because the accurate count of the
search result is not the main target for
search engine.
If we need the accurate number of some specific type of files, we can use the
SharePoint search APIs to get the
search result, and this is same as the result from web part.

Different Files Returned when using the Drop Down list on the Search Results Page

Hi
I have a result set of 22 documents when I select Date (Newest) from the drop down on the search results page. The third document down is called "LL".
If I now select Date (Oldest) I have a result Set of 22 documents. However, when I move to the second page. The number of documents has reduced to 20 documents and my document "LL" which I would have expected to be the third from bottom document
is not there.
Am I doing something wrong here ? Search is OOTB. I have added some refiner columns.

Hi Nigel,
It is by design. The "About x results" is presented when the total number of results is uncertain, and that is when collapsing (i.e. duplicate detection in this case) is enabled and the result set is partially processed. By default, a result page
shows 10 results at the time. Therefore, for result sets with less than or equal to 10 results you will always get an accurate number of results and hence “About” is omitted. For more than 10 results you will get the “About x results” on the first page until
you get to the last page of results and only then we know the exact number of results and hence can omit the “About”.
Note that when you page out in the result set you will notice that the X in the “About X results” can vary quite a lot. That is because the total number of results is estimated based on the collapsing done so far. This is a common way of doing it by other
search engines as well.

I have one problem and I think it is a settings issue. When I google the web I get results. Now, when I visit some website and I return to my search results I don't have any markers (diffrent link colour for visited sites in IE).

Incorrect Search Results

We have a PDF file of 1 page created through SAP (ERP Application). The PDF has a name "AD" which is displayed and printed. When we search the PDF using search option for name "ZZ", it gives the search results by selecting name "AD". Also, the PDF is sent to Blackberry device of "AD" with details of "ZZ".
This is similar to mirror image but I have no idea as to how to view this.

You can filter the PCD object setting the Search Layout Set of your Searc Iview.
In System Admin > System Configuration > Content Management > User Interface > Settings > Layout Set and duplicate the "SearchResultLayoutSet" layout set.
Then you have to duplicate its Collection Renderer "StandardSearchResultRenderer".
In its property "Resource Types to be Filtered" set as value "-http://sap.com/xmlns/pcd/app/iview".
Then assign the new Collection Renderer to the new Layout Set and that's it!
Now if yuor Search Iview uses this new Layout Set, when you search a PCD object the iviews will not be shown!
(or)
In the entry "Predefined Properties" of the search options set, you will need to enter "resourcetype(value=http://sap.com/xmlns/pcd/app/page/default)" if you want the search to be limited to resources defined as pages. Leave out /default if you dont want the end user to be able to change the filter.

SOLR search results - improving look and feel

Our team has been in the process of moving our site search from Verity to Solr. We are running CF9. I am able to build the collections and search them but have run into a problem. Hopefully, someone can shed some light on a solution. We are using cflincludes which can be either cfm or html files. When the search results are displayed and clicking on one of the links that happen to be one of the included files, none of the css is applied which is usually displayed from the file containing the cfinclude. Is there a way to have Solr display the link to the file that contains the cfinclude with all the CSS displayed properly as oppopposed to the included file?

No, the content is all contained on the included file. The cfm page is only 15-20 lines long which defines the css. This was done because the included page is displayed on both our internet and intranet site. Since the content was the same but the css is different for those two, in order to not duplicate the content, we went with the approach to define the content in one page and have it included into the other two which would display the css (i.e. banners, menus, etc.) depending on whether you were on the internet or intranet site.
The way I think that Solr is indexing is that it is really doing no work on the cfm page since there is no content at all. It is picking up the included file which contains all of the content. Then when the link is hit on the search display, it just displays the included file with no css.

Google Search Results Look Terrible

The search results are supposed to show up HOVERING over the entire page, but the way its working now is its putting the sidebar (menu), Sign Up for Newsletter, and Scrapbook icon OVER TOP of the search results. Any idea why? (See image below)
