Duplicating a database using FRA

Hello,
I'm trying to duplicate a database using a backupset stored in FRA.
However, I thought rman would go take the most recently backupset that I'd backed up but isn't what's happening.
It's trying read backup piece from tape and this is what I don't want to.
How can I do to rman read backupset stored in FRA ?

It's trying read backup piece from tape and this is what I don't want to.That's because you allocate manually a tape channel inside the RUN block:
allocate auxiliary channel c1 type sbt;For Duplicate use the same settings you used for the backup to the FRA.

Please can any 1 help me out.As you're using 10g Release, it means that you need to copy backup files to auxiliary destination
If you use 11g, you shouldn't do it. In 11g, you can even duplicate database without taking any backup

Duplicating a Database with RMAN

Hi,
When Duplicating the database using RMAN,
does it build the auxilary database from the existing rman backups of the target database
or
will it build direcly from the open / mount stage of the target dabase (where there is no concept of rman backups)
Please advice.

That depends on the version- Before 11g, RMAN took a previous created backup to duplicate. In 11g, we introduced the new command
RMAN> duplicate target database *from active database* ;that does it "on the fly" without backup needed.

Note: two important issues to denote in the sentence above is the word "SET" instead of "REUSE" and the controlfiles must be recreated in RESETLOG mode because the database must be opened in RESETLOG mode.
If you use the word "REUSE" instead of "SET" the opening of the database is going to request recovery of the datafile of the tablespace system.
So, apply this to recreate the controlfiles:
- Start the service in windows for the database COPY2
- Get connection through SQL*Plus as system
- Shut down the database with shutdown abort
- Start the database up in nomount stage
- apply the sentence to recreate the controlfile.

4 TB database and FRA

Hi
here the situation
- we have a 4TB OLTP database.
- RAC ASM 10g r2 AIX 5.3
- We want to go with RMAN - TSM for backup strategy
a DBA near me say, we need 5 TB for the FRA because RMAN Level-0 needs to be in the FRA + logs + .... !!! woooow ! it's money !
Is it true ?
My idea is: Use FRA only for Control Files, Archive logs, Flashback logs.
Whta is your opinion ?

Too many unknowns from your post. You should check Planning the Size of the Flash Recovery Area to help with some of your sizing requirements.
Your size requirements could be significantly less if you can't get the additional disk storage and decide to use TSM to to backup directly to tape.

How can i apply row level security on a table that is available in another database using DBlink
we have two databases PDSSM and EVTA, and i would like to apply row level security on a table in EVTA from a schema in PDSSM using dblink. MXODSADM IS A SCHEMA IN EVTA AND MXEMBARGO IS A SCHEMA IN PDSSM. there is a dblink(EVTA.GMM.COM) between mxembargo and mxodsadm.

You should be looking into com.sap.security.api.IUserFactory, methods newUser(String) which gives you and IUserMaint and commitUser(IUserMaint, IUserAccount) -- IUserAccount can be obtained using com.sap.security.api.IUserAccountFactory, method newUserAccount(String)

Unable to connect to Oracle Database using Oracle Sql developer 2.1.1.64

I am searching for some help regarding my problem with Oracle connectivity. I have installed Oracle 11g release 2 on my Windows XP Professional Laptop. For a few days after installation i could connect to the Oracle database with the SYSTEM account using Oracle SQL developer ( installed on the same Laptop) but now i am unable to do so.It gives me this annoying message:

How do I open a pdf stored in a Microsoft Access database using Visual Basic studios 2012

Currently I am unable to find a valid method of being able to open a pdf stored in a Microsoft Access database using Visual Basic studios 2012. I've tried displaying the entire database on a form, but when I do this all the other columns show up with
the correct data besides the one containing the pdf's, it just displays <binary data> in each row down the column. I also tried another method with which you use the database as a dataset and can drag and drop the rows and columns into the form, which
again works for all the other columns besides the one containing the pdf's but this time I'm unable to interact with the column at all.
Not too sure if this is in the correct place, but any answers or help would be appreciated. Cheers.

Connecting to Remote Database using Debian w/Oracle XE

Hello.
I have managed to install Oracle XE on a Debian box.
I am trying to connect to a remote server located on my network.
I am using the following connection string:
# sqlplus <User>/<Password>@'(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=<IP>)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=<SID>)))'
However, I was given both a SID and a Service_name.
I tried connecting with both.
Is it possible to parametrize both? I checked and the remote server is up, and that is the existing port.

How do I move databases using RMAN with minimal downtime ?

How can I do the following using RMAN ?

Redhat 5.2
I am not using an rman catalogIn the past I have moved large databases from 1 server to another with 5 minutes downtime using backups done the old way by putting tablespaces in backup mode and making copies of the datafiles.
I used the following method :

CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE set DATABASE "VPMY" RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG
MAXLOGFILES 32
MAXLOGMEMBERS 3

Up until the scheduled downtime, I would copy the archive logs from the production server to the new and run the following to apply the latest archive logs:

After applying the last archive log while in restrict mode -
ALTER DATABASE OPEN resetlogs;
My question is, how do I do Part 2 in RMAN. I have managed to duplicate databases and restore databases using rman to a different server, but this obviously only covers the data upto the backup point. How can I do the above parts 1 -3 with downtime of about 5 minutes like I have done using old methods ?

you should be able to recover as you go with rman as well..
copy the archived logs from A to B and apply them as they come in.
run
set until sequence x thread 1;
recover database;
if you're not opening the database after recovery you can just increment the set until sequence as the logs come in and do a new recovery.

If you choose not to install the sample schemas at that time, you can add them later by following the instructions in section "Manually Installing Sample Schemas".
Choose a custom install and don't install the sample schemas.
All other schems/tables installed are REQUIRED by Oracle
