Duplicating by RMAN

Hi,
when duplicating by RMAN with this script :
run {
allocate auxiliary channel ch1 type disk;
duplicate target database to w3k8b;
exites with following errors :
RMAN-03002: failure during compilation of command
RMAN-03013: command type: recover
RMAN-03002: failure during compilation of command
RMAN-03013: command type: recover(4)
RMAN-06053: unable to perform media recovery because of missing log
RMAN-06025: no backup of log thread 1 seq 1452 scn 252730 found to restore
I have found this :
RMAN-06053 unable to perform media recovery because of missing log
Cause: This message is accompanied with another message identifying the missing log. The log would be needed to perform the media recovery, but the log is not on disk and no backup set containing the log is available.
Action: Determine if a backup set containing the log can be made available. If so, then use the CHANGE command to make the backup set available and retry the command. If not, then a point in time recovery up to the missing log is the only alternative.
I prefer :
If not, then a point in time recovery up to the missing log is the only alternative.
But I do not know how ?
Thanks for help.

When you say "same error" do you refer to the one previously posted:
RMAN-03002: failure during compilation of command
RMAN-03013: command type: recover
RMAN-03002: failure during compilation of command
RMAN-03013: command type: recover(4)
RMAN-06053: unable to perform media recovery because of missing log
RMAN-06025: no backup of log thread 1 seq 1452 scn 252730 found to restore
I have found this :
RMAN-06053 unable to perform media recovery because of missing logIt is because rman is trying to locate a missing log. You attempt to perform a complete recover and rman just goes ahead.
You can verify the latest archivelog from the source database by issuing:
SQL>
  1  select max(sequence#), max(to_char(first_time,'RRMMDD:HH24MI')) TIMESTAMP
  2* FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG
SQL> /
MAX(SEQUENCE#) TIMESTAMP
         30957 070627:0027If you issue:
ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT;From the source database and ensure you have transfered all archivelog files, up to this last one generated to the auxiliary (clone) database. And issue:
recover database until logseq 30958 thread 1;This will perform the incomplete recover on the auxiliary database with the logsequence defined as the recovery goal.
Once the process is finished you must open your database with resetlogs and make sure, as a post-clone procedure to add the temporary datafiles as required, since rman doesn't backup nor restores temporary datafiles.

  • Setting database in ARCHIVELOG and duplicating with RMAN

    Hi. I've tried to duplicate a Oracle 11g database that wasn't in ARCHIVELOG mode without success.
    Here are the steps I followed:
    - Put original database in archivelog (SID: originaldb, startup mount, alter database archivelog, alter database open).
    - Configure tnsnames and create remote instance (SID: newdb)
    - Start 'newdb' (startup nomount)
    - Connect to 'original' using RMAN (rman target sys@originaldb)
    - Connect to the remote database 'newdb' (connect auxiliary sys@newdb)
    - Duplicate database (duplicate target database to newdb from active database nofilenamecheck)
    Then I get the following error: "RMAN-20208: UNTIL CHANGE is before RESETLOGS change"
    How should I proceed? Do I have to create a backup before trying to duplicate database?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Thanks a lot.
    I don't think that archivelogs were relocated, except I changed the location yesterday.
    As I wrote at the start that because of INIT.ORA file being in use instead of SPFILE. I set DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST, DB_RECOVERY_DEST_SIZE after changing the DB mode to ARCHIVELOG, but DB was restarted by somebody else, and as the parameter changing was NOT PERMANENT, it rollback.
    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST was set to d:\oradata\db with archivelog mode but db_recovery_file_dest and size was set to 0. Now here, I have no idea that whether archivelogs were not being backed up or deleted physically, but I guess that as log_archive_dest parameter is deprecated and mode is set to archivelog with no real ARCHIVELOG DESTINATION. Please correct me if I am wrong or totally wrong :-)
    I performed DELETED EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL, and it deleted 49 EXPIRED objects.
    Now CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL and LIST ARCHIVELOG ALL shows nothing.
    LIST BACKUP OF ARCHIVELOG ALL has of course those 49 archivelog gap.
    Could you please tell the impacts of those 49 missing archivelogs. Retention policy is set to 14 days. I mean the risk is for 14 days right? As anyhow, the older backups are being DELETED according to retention policy of RMAN.

  • Errors during duplicating database.

    Hello,
    I'm duplicating my database (using RMAN) and I get the following error:
    contents of Memory Script:
    shutdown clone;
    startup clone nomount;
    executing Memory Script
    database dismounted
    Oracle instance shut down
    RMAN-00571(...)
    RMAN-04006:error from auxiliary database: ORA-12514: TNS: listener doesn not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.
    It's 10.2 database on Linux. Auxiliary database is named 'aux'
    Tnsnames.ora and listener.ora seems to be ok, since I could connect to this instance (while it was in nomount state, before duplicating in RMAN) using
    sqlplus sys/***@aux as sysdba
    After I got the error I connected to aux using Bequeath, and checked it's status. It is shutdown since I got the error:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available.
    What can I do?
    Thx. in advance
    Aliq.

    On 9i, Oracle registers itself with the database when the database is opened.
    This means in any other state you need to use SID= in your tnsnames.ora.
    From your post it looks like this still applies to 10g.
    I would try changing my tnsnames.ora.
    You could of course, immediately after receiving the error, run lsnrctl services and check whether the service_name of the aux database is listed.

  • How to duplicate by rman database?

    dear sir, i read one article and follow step and 2nd auxiliary database i delete all dbf, ctl, log(redo) files ...then tryying to create dubplicate giving me error
    can some one send steps of it

    Database Duplication with RMAN
    Use the RMAN DUPLICATE command to create a copy of the target database that you can use for testing. The command restores backups and copies of the primary database's files and creates a new database.
    As part of the duplicating operation, RMAN manages the following:
    Restores the target datafiles into the duplicate database and performs incomplete recovery using all available archived log and incremental backups.
    Opens the duplicate database with the RESETLOGS option after incomplete recovery to create the online redo logs.
    Generates a new, unique database identifier for the duplicate database.
    Note also the following features of RMAN duplication. You can:
    Skip read-only tablespaces with the SKIP READONLY clause (read-only tablespaces are included by default). You can also exclude any tablespace with the SKIP TABLESPACE clause so long as it is not the SYSTEM tablespace and does not contain rollback or undo data. If you omit tablespaces, then you can add them later.
    Create your duplicate database in a new host. If the same directory structure is available, then you can use the NOFILENAMECHECK option and reuse the target datafile filenames for the duplicate datafiles.
    Create your duplicate database by using the SET UNTIL command or UNTIL clause of the DUPLICATE command to recover it to a noncurrent time. By default, the DUPLICATE command creates the database using the most recent backups of the target database and then performs recovery to the most recent consistent point contained in the incremental and archived redo log backups.
    Use the duplicate database without a recovery catalog.
    Register the duplicate database in the same recovery catalog as the target database. This option is possible because the duplicate database receives a new database identifier during duplication. If you copy the target database using operating system utilities, then the database identifier of the copied database remains the same so you cannot register it in the same recovery catalog.
    Figure 6-3 illustrates a case of database duplication. In this example, RMAN creates two duplicate database by using one set of datafile backups: one database on the local host and one database a remote host.
    Figure 6-3 Creating a Duplicate Database from Backups
    Text description of the illustration sbr81078.gif
    The method you use to duplicate your database depends on whether you are creating your duplicate database on the same or a different host and whether the duplicate directory structure is the same as your target database directory structure. For example, in some cases you can keep the same directory structure and filenames in your duplicate database, while other times you must rename the files.

  • Cloning & noresetlogs

    Hi,
    after cloning the database for example from dev to test, i should open the database in resetlogs? or can i open without noresetlogs?

    and moreover iam recreating the controlfile.You have to open database with RESETLOGS to create new redo log files. Read the following doc:

  • I hate oracle support - transporting index tablespaces

    i exported 9 index tablespaces and ran the import into a database created as a duplicate of the original database (duplicated using RMAN). None of the indexes got created...yes I checked dba_segments.
    I am using 9iR2.
    Any suggestions?

    the intent was to bring over the 9 data tablespaces and the 9 index tablespaces using transportable tablespace -- the amount of data here is 2.5+ Tb. we exported the metadata for all 18 tablespaces and then tried to import that metadata to the new instance. the data came over fine but the indexes are non-existent. oracle support says this should have worked, but surprise, it didn't. it will take 72 hours or more to rebuild the indexes if we have to do it manually, which is why we trying to use transport to begin with. just copying all the files over took 20 hours.
    oracle says my indexes should be there. anyone else try to do this and what did they do to make it happen?

    That depends on the version- Before 11g, RMAN took a previous created backup to duplicate. In 11g, we introduced the new command
    RMAN> duplicate target database *from active database* ;that does it "on the fly" without backup needed.

    hi,
    you have to use db_file_name_convert and db_log-filename_convert parameter in the auxiliary database parameter file and use nofilenamecheck parameter with the duplicate command.
    This is also recommended that you create new redo og files for auxiliary databse just like --
    RMAN> run{
    2> allocate auxiliary channel c1 device type disk;
    3> duplicate target database to prod1 pfile='c:\oracle\ora92\database\initprod1.ora'
    4> logfile 'c:\oracle\oradata\prod1\redo01.log' size 50m,
    5> 'c:\oracle\oradata\prod1\redo02.log' size 50m,
    6> 'c:\oracle\oradata\prod1\redo03.log' size 50m ;}
    i hope it solve your problem..

  • Duplicating a db to another host via rman

    I found a few documents on this topic, but didn't resolve my issue.
    I am trying to restore an RMAN backup to a different host
    (with same instance name, different path) from where the backup was taken.
    And while running it gives the following error:
    ORA-19505: failed to identify file "D:\ORACLE\BACKUP\TRACKER_20050920_FULL.S148P1"
    ORA-27041: unable to open file
    ORA-04002 unable to open file
    O/S-Error : (OS 21) device not ready
    Here D: drive is where I backup via rman ervery day.
    If any of you had come across this problem and had a solution to this, could you please share it with me.
    Thanks
    P.S. I'm able to connect to catalog, target and auxiliary.

    Check the value for the parameter "COMPATIBLE" in the source and standby database instance parameter files.
    "COMPATIBLE" should be the same.
    See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/create_ps.htm#i70517
    "... ensure the COMPATIBLE initialization parameter is set to the same value on both the primary and standby databases"

    If you use 11g, you shouldn't do it. In 11g, you can even duplicate database without taking any backup
