Duplicating clip within frame

I'm not sure what you call this, but I've done it in the past and can't for the life of me remember how the heck I did it.
I want to take one clip - 10 seconds in length and place it 4x across and 4x down so it looks like you're watching 16 clips - but all of the same thing at the same time. There's a name for this effect but I can't remember what it's called. I illustrated it below with smiley faces. Assume each smiley face is the same clip, 25% of it's size, duplicated 4 across and 4 down. Premier Pro CS4, windows 7 64 bit.
Can anyone tell me how I did this?

As Ann states, it's PiP (Picture in Picture), and is done with 16 Clips, each with a different adjustment of the Fixed Effect>Motion>Position, and probably the same Fixed Effect>Motion>Scale.
When doing a matrix, such as you describe, I find it useful to create an "alignment grid," to help me Scale and locate the Clips. This ARTICLE goes into a bit more detail on alignment grids.
Another term, besides PiP, that might be applied in this case would be "photo wall," should you do a Search for tutorials, etc.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Frame reference within a clip within a clip

    this seems to be an almost universally puzzling question as I've not gotten any responses from any of the forums that I've posted on...
    Is it possible for me to have 1 movieclip consisting of multiple movie clips, in a .fla file, and reference specific frames of clips within a frame of the movie clip, from an outside .as file?
    In a .fla file I have a movie clip that consists of several frames, each containing a different movie clip to perform different actions of a character I am attempting to animate.  The basics of the code work fine, but now I'm trying to get into more detailed aspects of the characters actions and interactions and all the tutorials that I've come across thus far direct me to add various aspects of code throughout my animation which I feel would litter my program as this project grows.  My basic code is as follows
    class hero extends MovieClip
        variable definitions up here
        function onLoad()
            variable initializations here
        function onEnterFrame()
            if( Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT) )
                _xscale = 200;
                if( Key.isDown(Key.SHIFT) )
                    gotoAndStop("run");
                    _x = _x + run_speed;
                } else {
                    gotoAndStop("walk");
                    _x = _x + walk_speed;
    // more of that for the other carnal directions of the character's movement...
            } else if ( !Key.isDown() ){
                gotoAndStop("stand");
    This works fine.  Beyond this, I have a frame with the anchor lable "Punch" which contains a movie clip consisting of 5 frames.  Is it possible for me to reference specific frames within the movie clip within this frame of the big movie clip?

    you reference nested clips using dot notation BUT the parent clip must be on a frame where the child exists.  for example, if the _currentframe of parentMC contains childMC,   you could reference the frame number of childMC that's a child of parentMC using:
    trace(parentMC.childMC._currentframe);
    if childMC only exists on frame 2 of parentMC and parentMC is on its first frame, then you would need:
    parentMC.gotoAndStop(2);
    trace(parentMC.childMC._currentframe);

    Your servlet (or JSP) can't decide where it is going to be displayed. The browser has already decided that when it makes the request to your servlet.

  • How to move clip one frame at a time or nudge

    Tried searching this, as I'm sure it's basic and in the owner's manual, but I can't find it:
    I can't control how far I'm dragging something across the timeline. Can I grab and nudge rather than grab and drag? I'd like to be able to move a clip one frame over.
    Thanks.

    If there's nothing in the way you can use the [ and ] keys or comma and period. Shift-bracket will move five frames.

  • Nudge clip one frame at a time

    I can move my clip one frame over by pressing "Shift" and the > or < key.
    But after I've done that once showing a synch discrepancy of +1 or -1, then next time I do it, the increment is +5 or -5.
    Is this normal? I need to be able to continue moving the clip +1 or -1 frame at a time.
    Thanks for telling me how!

    Use the Trim Forward and Trim Backward buttons (Shift-] and Shift-[) to perform the selected trim operation to the outgoing and incoming clips on either side of the edit point. The inner trim buttons trim an edit point by one frame, while the outer, multi- frame trim buttons adjust edit points by a default duration of five frames. You can perform ripple and roll edits using these buttons while the selected edit plays back, trimming frame by frame while you watch the selected edit loop over and over.
    The number of frames the multi-frame trim buttons add or subtract can be changed in the Editing tab of the User Preferences window.

  • Moving clips one frame at a time

    I'm trying to line up some clips to all be the same length and start and end at the same exact time.
    But final cut pro x is making it very difficult for me!
    Is there an easy short-cut to move a clip one frame at a time?
    I want these clips to line up exactly!
    Thank you,

    The way I was doing it was zooming in really close (command +) and then manually moving the clips to line up.
    But comma and period are exactly what I was looking for.
    Thanks!

  • Compressor - Output Clips Missing Frames Throughout

    Compressing clips from Canon 7D (H.264) to Avid1:1x codec creates clips that are missing some frames. This results in a shorter output clip.
    The missing frames are random.
    The clips have a steppy playback that can be seen when stepping through the clip one frame at a time.
    I am not re-timing the clips. The source is 25fps, and so is the output.
    Thanks,
    Ben.

    G'day
    Benjamin, Benjamin, Benjamin, a world of hurt today, mate.
    I'm not sure this is the best workflow for you. Have you tried anything like clipwrap or Mpegstream clip to get the clips into a usable Avid format? I'm wondering if you have the correct codecs installed in the first place.
    what you can do is work in smaller batches and keep sending them off in the queue.
    If you have an 8 core machine you'll want to setup an render cluster, using 4 instances. Look through the manual for that in Qmaster. then when you submit, send the render batch to the cluster rather than "this machine."
    I haven't been on an Avid in an age and a half, but I'd think they'd have a workflow setup for these clips, I mean rather then running off to Apple's solution.

  • Naming clips within a sequence

    Help, I'm stuck! I've created a sequence from a subclip and would like to assign a different name to each clip within the sequence. Changing one clip affect all the others. I have tried all the options described in the editing workshop book by Tom Wolsky but have not been able to do it.
    What am I doing wrong?
    thanks

    Thank you for your reply. This is what I was doing
    1. Made the sequence
    2. Clicked on the Sequence 1 icon on the browser and selected Make Sequence Clips Independent
    3. Moved the sequence clips from the time line to the browser
    4. Changed the name in one clip and they all changed including the master
    After reading your reply,
    1. Made the sequence
    2. Highlighted the sequence in the time line
    3. Selected make clips independent from the Sequence pull-down menu
    4. Moved the sequence to the browser and was able to re-name them independently.
    Obviously I misinterpreted the explanation in the book.
    Thank you for taking the time to respond.

  • Accessing instance variables within frames.

    I have 2 jsf within frames that is having one managed bean.
    i would like to access the instance variable defined in one jsf from another jsf. Since the managed bean is getting instantiated for the second jsf, the values in first jsf is getting reintialized.
    Is it possible to access like this? or do we need to have a separate backing bean and call the first from second.

    var scriptVar = "<%= jspVar %>";

  • Panning & scale clips within a PIP template

    I have PremPro & AEP CS6. I'm looking for the best way to play 4HD clips (layers 1-4) within a 4-square template (like "24"), but panning & scaling each clip separately within its "window". I would like to retain the highest quality for the sequence and each of the 4 clips. I prepared 4 jpeg matte files, each with a different "white" window for the 4 quadrants, and I can use the track matte key on each clip tracked to its matte to play all four clips within the windows, but when I scale or move the clips to "crop" into them, the mattes scale and move as well. What am I missing here?

    To add to what Richard said, this is simple.
    Edit each of the four windows in a separate sequence. When you are happy with each of the four sequences, you can create a 5th sequence and then put the four sequences on to the first four video tracks. Use the Motion effect to scale them to 50% and then move them into place. Slightly smaller than 50% if you want borders.
    Once that is done, you can always go back and make changes to the original sequences.
    If you truly want to pan around them, you might want to create the sequences at 50% to begin with and just scale the video down. That way you can pan and zoom in the sequence without losing any quality (as long as you never scale up to more than 100%).
    Then when you drop them on a full size sequence, you just need to use the Motion effect's position parameters to move them into place because they will already be properly scaled.
    As for the borders, you can simply create one matte using the Title Designer or Photoshop, and drop it on to the top video track.

  • Can one cut and paste an audio clip within a movie to use in another place?

    can one copy and paste an audio clip within a movie to use in another place?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

    If you are wanting to use the audio from clip A into clip B then try......
    First check that Advanced tools are enabled: iMovie>Preferences>General>Show Advanced Tools.
    Drag clip A from the Event UPON clip B in the Project. When you release the mouse you will get a pop up menue.
    Select Audio Only. Note the other options for another day!!!!
    You will get a green bar as Karsten mentions above ( move it , shorten it etc, etc.)
    Show Audio Waveform by selecting Blue Waveform Box ,bottom right of Project Window.
    You can adjust audio level from clip A and clip B to your requirements.You can set either to zero volume if you require.
    This may not be what you meant by "to use in another place "
    If you want just the audio to use outside of iMovie, try;
    With the required clip/clips only in the project> Share> Export Using Quicktime and in Export Select "Sound To AIFF. Save to desktop in the first instance so you can easily find it.

  • Changing text within frames without adding space at bottom

    Anyone know if there's a method for changing text within frames so that the successive text automatically flows into position without creating blank space at bottom of that current or a subsequent frame?

    Peter,
    You can combine the discussions if you want.  I actually deleted a sentence beginning the second discussion explaining that it was related to the first.  I thought it might impede the discussion.
    Let me describe my problem more completely.  I'm adjusting a book that was carefully crafted using frames for each page so that the text extended to the bottom of each page (frame).  This often splits text within a paragraph between two pages.  This was done so that the customer doesn't feel they are purchasing any blank space and for the aesthetic purpose of filling each page with text.  The only exception is the beginning of new chapters or sections.
    The problem is that I want to change a word here and there in preexisting paragraphs.  When I do, space often one-third the page length is generated at the bottom of a page (frame).  To fill that space and extend text to the bottom of the page again requires -given my current understanding of options- selecting the paragraph (beginning on one page and completed on the second) that has become interrupted by the blank space and performing a "keep lines together" option.  Unfortunately, this usually generates new blank space on a subsequent page, requiring a new "keep lines together"; in a seemingly unending regress of this procedure.
    What I require is a method enabling me to add text within a paragraph that will avoid the generation of the blank space by flowing the subsequent text (composing one or more paragraphs and splitting a paragraph between pages if required) to the end of the page; completely filling the page without requiring any use of "keep options" or whatever.

  • Manipulating Multiple Audio Clips Within One Track

    Hello I need help with 2 issues!
    Problem 1: I recorded in Audacity converted it and brought them into Soundbooth CS5.  It turns out to be 208 clips that I now have on one track. When I edit/shorten one track (lets say clip 8) I have to individually select all other tracks to move them forward because there's space between clip 8 and 9 thru 200.  How do I select track 9 thru 200 (highlight them all) without having to individually select all clips within the track?
    Your help will grately shorten my editing time.
    Problem 2: I have several clips that have 2 audio tracks by mistake. How do I split up the audio and keep the portion I want?
    Thanks in advance.

    Select "Share" in the File menu, then QT export, expert setting, save as AIFF. (Optionally export just the selected clips)
