Duplicating EPMA Application in 11.1.1.4

Good day,
We are unable to duplicate an HFM EPMA application in version 11.1.1.4. We receive the following error:
java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
Error Code: com.hyperion.awb.web.common.BaseServiceException
We have logged with Oracle support but they say we need to look at errors with consolidation methods.
We have not populated the methods, as we are not using HFM logic for the consolidation, rather we are performing the required consolidation via the rule file.
We are familiar with the EPMA option in copy app, but that would mean converting the source app to a classical app first, which the client does not want.
Has anyone come across this problem before?
Any help will be appreciated.

You can refresh the filters from Planning web itself. I'm sure that EPMA might be considering that as a refresh and storing information in backend tables that the app is in sync.

Thanks for the help. What I was trying to do is extract one from an existing application. But I guess it is easy enopugh to set one up from scratch. I wasnt sure of the start period of the app that i wanted duplicated, but opening it in the classic app client, and dropping down on the year dimension gives us the info.

Error while deploying an HFM application in EPMA application

Hi,
I have created an application in HFM and its validating fine. While I try to deply the application by EPMA application library I get the below error;
Detail : Initiating Product Action...
Generating Headers and Callback Information...
Generating Application Data...
Posting Product Request...
**ActiveX component can't create object (HFM:1AD)**
**Action aborted.**
Can anyone please help on this?

This error indicates that the dcom object is not able to launch successfully:
a) Start > Run > DCOMCNFG
b) Expand Component Services > Computers > My Computer > DCOM CONFIG
c) Locate the COMJNIBRIDGE object, right-click and choose "properties"
d) Click on the identity tab and choose "This user" and browse for the FDM Service account and enter/confirm the password
e) Re-test
dcom user must have local security policy rights.
please try these to resolve ur issue, make sure u have backup of the registry before doing this.

HFM EPMA application deployment aborted with error Object reference not set

HFM EPMA application deployment aborted with error Object reference not set to an instance of an object when trying to validate/deploy any HFM application in EPMA. This has started happending after we have deleted a Dimension in one of HFM applications. The deleted dimension is a shared dimension.
We are facing this issue in a distributed environment with version 11.1.2.1. This applications are built here newly.

There was a bug in earlier releases for deleting dimensions with children, making the children orphans.
Heard from release notes that it has been fixed, but we are seeing this issue in 11.1.2.1 again.
Please help us out in resolving this error.

I am loading the metadata into epma applications using interface tables as ODI dont perit to load metadata into epma applications. Is there any way of using ODI and interface tables together to load the metadata

It is certainly possible and has be done, though there is not anything available that will do it for you, you will have to put in some effort learning the structure of the interface tables, then build interfaces and then a package in ODI to streamline the process.

Plannning EPMA Application deployment failing

I have made some changes to entity dimension in planning EPMA application like removing old hierarchy and including new hierarchy
But after that I found that the application is not getting deployed correctly
Please let me know what does the below issue means

Classic app changed to epma application without warning

Hi!
I have an application which was initially created as classic planning application. (version 931)
Today when I opened this application I noticed that dimension members were not editable any more, which led me to think that application has "evolved" to an epma application.
I do not remember having upgraded application (have just checked if it was upgradeable, even today it is upgradeable???).
When I browse application library this application is not visible anywhere there. So it seeems that it is not an epma application, but it does not have the classic application features either.
Can I somewhere check whether this application is currenty classic or epma?
Is it possible to copy epma application to classic application using copy app (just wild question...) I think i already know the answer, but has anybody tried?

Have you eve used the EPMA file generator as I have seen it change the classic settings so it looks to be an EPMA application without warning.
You can revert it back go into the planning system tables.
First look in the HSPSYS_APPLICATION, note down the APP_ID for the planning app in question.
Next go into the table HSPSYS_PROPERTIES, look at column PROPERTY_NAME = EDIT_DIM_ENABLED for the ID you had in the step above, change the PROPERTY_VALUE from false to true.
Restart Planning application service.

EPMA application error

Hi gurus,
In epma application library i deleted one of the existing application and created a new application the application was deployed successfully. I need to implement partitions to this application. I have successfully defined partition(two replicated and one transparent) during validation and data copy i'm getting following error msg, the application name mentioned in the error is not the application name that i had given. Even it is throwing error during partition validation/data replication i'm getting data in the application and calcscripts were also executing. i want to know what this error means and why it is showing different name.

Sorry - reread your post and follow that it is an EPMA BSO app, not planning. Can you try placing the Period dimension before the Account dimension in order and seeing if it deploys? I know that's not ideal, but just as a test. You may want to read the very end of this possibly related post:

Is it necessary to have Application Administrator to deploy HFM EPMA application?

Our users don't want us to have Application Administrator role and Yet they want us to change the Hierarchy and Deploy the application. Is there any way? Our application is EPMA HFM application.

I believe, with an EPMA application, you should have the ability to modify application metadata with the EPMA Dimension Editor Shared Services role (Foundation > Shared Services > EPMA Administrator > Dimension Editor). To deploy the changes, however, my understanding is that this is restricted to the Application Administrator role for the HFM application.

I am trying to tag the account members %_to Sales & Margin_Inc% as TB Average, If I change that property to None, I don't get these errors & everything deploys without any error. Post deployment if I go in the outline & try to assign TB average directly in EAS I am able to do that without any errors.
I am on EPMA 11.1.2.1, this error is not occuring in Planning application but in BSO Essbase cube in EPMA
Any thoughts?

How to change the name of HFM EPMA Application while migrating from dev to

We have HFM EPMA application in Dev env on 11.1.2.2. We want to migrate aplication to production environment with different name. We are using Life cycle management to migrate the application. I know life cycle management but do not know how to change the application name during migration.
As we have EPMA application so copy utility will not work. Please helop.

You could use the Copy app utility to migrate the application from Dev to Prod.You could have your desired app name while setting up the copy process.
The EPMA application from Dev will be converted to an Classic application in Prod after the copy.
Then you might need to use the "Transform Classic to EPM Architect" and convert it to an EPMA application.
So your Application with the data from Dev will be moved to Prod.

Launch Workspace
Navigate ->Administer->Transform Classic to EPM Architect

1.Can you tell anyone, how to import metadata into EPMA application by using ODI. Detailed steps with screen shots will be appreciated.
2. What was the interface tables. How the interface tables will be useful while importing metadata into EPMA application (Detailed steps with screen shots will be appreciated.). And tell me the interface tables structure and work process. give me the clear idea bout interface tables. I don't know anything about interface tables.
3.Which method(either using ODI or Interface tables) is optimized/bestcase for importing metadata into EPMA application.
My database is Oracle 10g and I am using Planning 9.3.1.

Answer to your questions
1. You can't import metadata directly into EPMA using ODI, the only option is use the EPMA interface tables which is your question 2.
2. Interface tables are just a structure of database tables which you populate with metadata and then this is pushed into EPMA, the structure of the tables takes a while to get an understanding of. 3. As explained in question 1 you can't use ODI directly to import metadata into EPMA but with a lot of hard work and effort you could probably populate interface tables from EPMA, though I must admit I am not a fan of the interface tables because I don't think they were designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind.

In EPMA application the herrachies are maintained a same time . Will it be wrong to say that DRM along with creating new application in 9.3.1 is similar to creating EPMA application in version 11.1.1.???
i want to know if we are creating EPMA application do we need any tool as in ODI to upload the metadata?

I think your question more about understanding how EPMA works and relates to Planning. In a nutshell, you build your dimensions in EPMA and feed them into applications. One dimension can be used in multiple applications and they can even be shared with HFM and Essbase.
To build your dimensions, you have currently two interfaces. The first and most commonly used one is EPMA File Generator. It's an excel file with a built-in macro. You define your dimensional structure and member properties in this Excel file and it gives you the text output for you to load it into EPMA. For this matter, DRM is more similar to EPMA File Generator. Of course DRM has a lot more to offer.
On a last note, Applications created in EPMA are no Classic Applications. When you create an application in EPMA, you must forget about all classic application related goodies. That said, good bye HAL, fariwell ODI dimension load. Hence, you must make your choice wisely.
