DV goes soft with position change.

I am currently editing a video in which I am using a letterbox overlay for titles. This crops the top and bottom of my 4:3 video and makes it similar to widescreen. (Only I am using the upper and lower space for text.) Because of this, I frequently need to reposition the video clip underneath the title matte to reframe the image so the content I want in making it through the matte.
Every time I do this and render, the resulting image is soft. I likewise find the same problem with speed controls. (Even reverse at -100%) While I understand that frame blending occurs and will soften a slowed image, I don't know why repositioning the image impact the quality as much as it does. I looked in the render settings and tried selecting Max Bit Depth (even though this shouldn't effect the sharpness of the image) and it didn't make any difference.
I can throw all these clips in After Effects and get the desired result, but does anyone know why this is happening and if there is a way to resolve it in Premiere?

You are potentially dealing with 2 issues here: interlaced video fields being placed incorrectly and/or subpixel positioning.
For example, when full D1 video (720x486) is cropped to fit DV frame sizes (720x480), common sense would say that you take 3 rows of pixels off the top, and 3 rows off the bottom.
But that reverses the field order, so you must crop 2/4 or 4/2 to maintain the even/odd field order relationship.
Similar arguments hold for moving the frame, which is why tlc51369 is entirely correct that shifting the clip position by one pixel can make a huge difference.
If you move the clip in less than one pixel increments, then Premiere must interpolate whole pixels to determine what the fractional pixels should look like. This subpixel positioning can also make a clip appear soft.
So you must control your clip's movements with an awareness of what these 2 issues can do to a clip's sharpness. The interlaced fields issue can also adversely affect motion, adding jitter where there was none before.

The default font remains Myriad Pro until you change it, either in the RGB/CMYK Startup files or in the preferences, options depending on versions.
Concerning missing font names, I believe this may solve it:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.

When and How to get the Text.ScrollPos value of a String control when scroll bar position changed

Hi,
I'm working on a feature triggered by scroll bar position of a string control changed.
But I could not find a good way to catch the scroll bar position changed event,
the scroll bar is controlled manually by mouse down → mouse move → mouse up, I want the get the Text.ScrollPos value when user mouse up, and compare with the maximum value.
But the problem is, mouse up on the scroll bar could not trigger String: Mouse up event!
So I have to get the Text.ScrollPos continuously in the background in Timeout event, but I think it’s not efficient.
Do you have any better idea on when to get the correct destination value of Text.ScrollPos?
I plan to store the value of Text.ScrollPos in the bottom(maximum value) in a shift register, then compare the current Text.ScrollPos value with the max one.
If it comes close to the bottom(90%~100% of the maximum value), then the close to bottom LED will turn on.

I don't think there is any build-in event for this.
One solution would be to create your own user event at the initialisation of you main and launch a thread which is going to be pulling the value of your scrollbar position:
Then you can build your main as if they were a scrollbar move event.
And dont forget to close the thread and destroy the event at the end.

What's going on with U-Verse in South Miami

For the past two months, we have been getting dropped signals (bundled U-Verse and including landline, mobile phone, television and internet) sometimes three times a day. I have had phone calls drop while speaking to my boss, (I work from home) favourite shows will all of a sudden give us that no service screen, which means we lose portions of the dialogue, and the internet stops working. I have not dared to call ATT as frankly the only solution that Customer Service seems to know is "Oh it must be your RG that needs changing." Well that's a load of rubbish since if it's the RG then ATT have some serious problems as I have spoken to at least six people that I know that also have U-Verse and they are all having the same problem, but kept thinking it was just them.
The internet signal has also got painfully slow and since we pay a juicy bill of $315 dollars a month and subscribe to the best package that U-Verse has to offer, I do not expect to have these constant problems. Nobody is perfect, and a little issue once in a while is acceptable, but not two to three times day! In addition... we receive an electronic bill and this has been a very hectic month for me, so realising that today was the 12th and I know that the bill is usually due sometime around this time of the month, and not having received a bill, I went online to investigate. Sure enough - on login to the payment page, it said "past due!" Well send me a bill and I will pay it. I just don't know what is going on with U-Verse but it is very distressing. I believe the saying is that they have, "Gone to ** in a handbasket." On a positive note - we can now apparently fast forward and rewind On-Demand TV shows, and which made no sense before that this feature was unavailable. However... this does not make up for the recent poor service and non-arrival of my electronic monthly bill, ( will have to go back to paper - not cool) and then having the nerve to tell me "past due."

Chris, As explained, and to be honest I am usually very long-winded and detailed in my explanations because readers miss things, as you might have done in this case. It is not my problem alone. Whenever we have a problem with any utility or especially in the case of ATT services, I always check with anyone that I know that uses the service and over a broad area, not just in my street but anyone I know in an approximate 8 - 10 mile area, to see if our issues are isolated just to us. If they are, then I know that it is most likely a piece of equipment we are using. In this situation, as there have been in others, every single person that I spoke to is experiencing the same situation. And again - this is why I said that I have thrown up my hands in exasperation and usually get another family member to call customer service if there is a problem, as I know exactly what they are going to tell me. "Let us check your line - (you then spend 45 minutes on the phone with them) No... everything seems fine, it must be your RG, you need to buy a new one." Mea culpa - I have no patience or time for scripted c.s. reps. Two years ago, we had a lightening strike that literally struck the ATT box next door. The wires in all the boxes on the street (including the ones in our yard) were fused and black when the box was opened. And yet... when one of my neighbours (who apparently did not connect the lightening strike with the loss of service - sigh... what can I say...) called ATT, they got the same response. "No, we don't see any problems here, it must be your RG." Com'n! It was a lightening strike! And on an aside - the new cable is now still hanging from my backyard fence as they were supposed to come back to bury it. Two years ago... So the dear space-cadet neighbours, paid for a new RG, hooked it up to find there was no reception (ya think?) and to then find out that theirs was just fine, and now there was the hassle of having to package the new one and take it to the UPS store to ship it back, and which is another frustration, because it is not possible to return it to a local store or office. Unlike yours truly, they apparently did not do their research with other users, even though we had no service for over a week. So - by a process of survey and elimination, it cannot be the RG, unless everyone I spoke with is using the same RG. But there have been quite a few changes that we have noticed recently, ranging from new look menus, to those very beautiful images when first turning on the TV. So is it not entirely possible that in all the changes and tweaking, something else has been affected? Look it happens - but I can never understand why they can't just say,"Sorry, we are working on "upgrades" so we apologise but you might experience these little set-backs for a while until we are through." Why always blame it on the RG? Another way to make more money?

FCP7 (not X) Problems with Opacity Change

I have a JPEG that I want to fade in and out from black. However, when I change the opacity, the areas within the key frames for opacity change go crazy.
The screen becomes split with what appears to be the RGB in each section.
Sometimes the screen goes green with the clip scaled down and in a random position. The sequence is set to Apple Pro Res 444 (I know its wrong, someone else set it) and the footage is coming from DSLRs. I have tried messing with the composite mode, alpha channels, reimporting the JPEG, and restarting FCP7.

Problem with iChat changing my custom away message after 30 minutes

Lately, I've been having a big problem with iChat changing any custom away message that I put up to "Away" after 30 minutes or so. Is there anything I can do to make it stop? Another issue I'm having is that sometimes when people on my buddy list change their away message, it doesn't show up on iChat unless I go offline and then sign back on. Any idea why it's doing that, and what I can do to get it to stop?

Hi Melissa - thanks for your interest. Here's the first frame, the second frame and the tween frame. I don't understand why the tween is changing the position of the object in frame 2, was expecting it to just fade from one frame to the next.

Issue with PO change output - Service line items

This is issue with PO change output. We have PO with line item 10, 20 and item 10 has 4 service line items. PO is approved and initial print out is taken.
Some one goes and makes changes to 1st service line items of PO line item 10.
A change output gets triggered. When this output is printed, it prints line item 10 details. This is standard functionality as this item is changed. But its printing all the service line items for this PO line item. Consider a case where there are 3000 service lines for a PO item. If I add 1 service item to this PO line item, the change form prints 3001 services for that line item. There were no changes done to first 3000 service line items.
Currently PO change form takes care of changes at PO line item but it does not take care of changes at service line item level.
Is there any setting that needs to be done for this so that it only considers the changes at Service line item level also.

If you're using a standard form, send a message to SAP. Otherwise make a change in the form.

HT1807 I travelled to a different country & using a new sim; with the change in sim, I have been unable to use iMessage & FaceTime. Cant replace replace the earlier no with the current one and it reads error. how to correct this?

I traveled to a different country and using a new sim/new carrier. With the change in the sim, I have been unable to use the iMessage--outside of WiFi coverage area, and FaceTime at all time. I believe it is due to the phone number registered as an address in the phone, which has not changed with the change of sim; so it countinues to showing as an error while varifying the data.
Wonder if any of you are in a position to advise as to how to address the following.
1. I need to input correct phone no, meaning the number I am using in the correct location.
2. I need to activate FaceTime and be able to use it.
3. I need to be able to use iMessage and/or ordinary sms while outside of WiFi coverage area.
It may be mentioned in my current location I don't have GPRS on the cell phone which is the case in my regular station.

We are upgrading to SRM 5.0 to SRM 7.0
In Purchase order screen,under account assignment,we want to see the acocunt assignment detailed view as the default view under tab "ACCOUNT ASSIGNMENT".Click on the DETAILS button and then the details show up in the bottom part of the screen.
Can anyone advise how do we change the postion of fields in the account assignment tab which are created dynamically.

Did you manage to solve the issue? I've tried to define customizing point "Configure Generic Field Display on User Interface" with no luck.
I've even tried to enhance the corresponding WD Component for SC items detail. Field position is correct in the layout editor, but position changes when fields are rendered in runtime.

Placed image position change

I have checked the home page on all the three browsers that you mentioned and they all look same to me.
If you still see the issue with the image placing, I will suggest that you group them together with the text or content above or below it. Grouping usually fixes most of the alignment issues.

The single download means that you won't be able to redownload it from the store without paying, either on a computer's iTunes or an iOS device - it doesn't stop you from copying the audiobook to your other computers or syncing it to your iOS devices, you just can't redownload it. (I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them requiring the one-time download.)
You can download audiobooks on your computer's iTunes and sync them to iOS devices, you do not have to buy them directly on the device (if you do then you can copy them back to your computer's iTunes library by connecting the device and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option on your computer's iTunes).
What you are doing to sync them should work i.e.
- connecting the iPad to your Mac
- selecting the iPad on your Mac's iTunes
- selecting its Books tab and selecting the audiobooks that you want to sync to the iPad and syncing/applying that selection.
You should then get an audiobooks option in the Music app on your iPad. If they aren't appearing there then do they show in Settings > General > Usage > Music on the device - if you have audiobooks on the iPad then they should be listed there under an 'audiobooks' heading.
By 'restart the iPad' do you mean a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could also try closing its Music app via the iPad's taskbar : Force an app to close in iOS.
And do a soft-reset and retry syncing.
I assume that music and other items sync ok ?

Freeze up during clip capture with random change of in and out points

Having BIG problems capturing DV footage which began late last Fall. While performing a capture (assigned clips) footage would go down for a few seconds then would freeze (picture only, the audio continued) then after several seconds the picture would "catch up" and continue.
Found a solution here in the FCP forum where I had my firewire drives "ignored" by SPOTLIGHT by listing them in the privacy selection. Worked and moved on.
I have a project now where the problem has come up again. Once again during a clip capture it did what it did before - but now it ignores the assigned in point (audio but no video and almost consistently delaying it by 9 seconds into the capture) then freezes (at the assigned outpoint - sometimes) then continues to play on (audio only) then resumes (again catching up) then stops announcing a SUCCESSFUL CAPTURE. When the clip is selected to preview it plays back from the incorrect in point, freezes, then plays until the catch up - with now the audio out of sync. More craziness because now the log information now has changed: the MEDIA START & END information is not what was inputed so the DURATION TIME is now different and sometimes it adds a MARK OUT point (!?). I rarely use the CAPTURE NOW function but even trying that the footage still freezes up and goes out of sync.
I worked the SPOTLIGHT routine again with no change. Have completely optimized my system drive and external hard drives using DISKWARRIOR 4.1
I accept all the auto software up dates that come through UPDATER and see that I received a updated Quicktime version 7.5 on 13 June 08. I also noticed that I don't have CLASSIC OS 9 supported and seemed to have read here about something about FIREWIRE DRIVERS that maybe missing?
Was thinking of upgrading to 10.5 to see if that helps - but unsure about my FCP version/compatability...
So, here I sit frustrated since I have used FCP (which I LOVE) for quite a few years with great success - this is crazy! OF course, I have a project which deadline is looming!
Any ideas?

So far have done a workaround to digitize my DV elements through iMovie. Not pretty. I string together the selected/import clips (in this case from interviews), assemble them in sequential order on the time line with small breaks of black in between, then export the timeline as DVCPRO/DV-NTSC quicktime file. Take that file into my FCP then segment out the clips on the time line, make each segment an independent clip so that I can name them. Not pretty but it works - miss having the logging data going through FCP log and capture.
Still waiting for any other solution to my situation - thanks!
