DVCPROHD 60i to DVCPROHD 50i?

Is there someone who knows how you can convert footage that is in DVCPROHD 60i to DVCPROHD 50i?
When I try to render the 60i footage in a 50i sequence, I get not smooth images.. Is there a way to do this perfect?

Well, typically I'd use the STANDARDS CONVERTER from www.nattress.com to convert 25fps to 30fps and vise versa. Not sure if it does this for 60i to 50i. But, you can download the demo and see for yourself.

  • How do I convert HDV 60i to 50i?

    Hi,
I picked up a Canon HV20 when I was in Taiwan and it shoots in 60i. Now I am back in the UK I have an XHA1 which shoots in 50i. What is the best way to convert some of my 60i footage to 50i so that I can use it with my final 50i output. Thanks.
    Keep it mellow, B.

I have done this type of frame rate conversion using a variation on the "bonsai method" - putting the 60i clips into 50i sequences and exporting new media. Either way you do it your clips will no longer match the tape TC, but that's to be expected. Anyway, this usually results in repeated or skipped frames when it converts the frame rate, skipped frames in your case. Usually about 5 skips per second, which can sometimes be noticeable depending on the type of motion in the frame. Since these occur at regular intervals, they can be so noticeable as to be distracting. You can adjust the render settings in your output conversion sequences to attempt to smooth this out further - under Video Processing - Motion Filtering Quality.
I'm not sure if that would work as well as using Compressor's frame controls to give you smoother frame blending. I would expect Compressor to do a very good job with this. Some other advantages to using Compressor are the ablility to batch process the source clips from the finder, and letting it run in the background while you are using FCP. Turning on the frame controls will greatly increase the time it takes to process the clips - the setting to change here again is the rate conversion - the resize controls can bbe left at the fastest settings since you aren't resizing the frame.
I have also use Cinema Tools to simply conform the clips to a new frame rate. This works great for going from 24 to 25 or back, but the 18% slowdown created by the 30 to 25 converison makes the audio sound really weird (this process simply changes the plyback frame rate without converting the frames at all, and pitch-shifts the audio to match.)
    Hope this helps -

  • 60i to 50i conversion, but not keeping original length?

I'm sitting here with the raw footage for a music promo. Half is shot 50i, half is 60i. I need to end up in PAL, so I'm trying to figure out how to convert the 60i stuff to 50i. As all the 60i material has to be slowed down anyway, so I don't want to do a regular pulldown and start interpolating and losing frames and stuff. Just save/convert the QT to 50i, or PAL.
I guess what I mean is, keep the total amount of frames, but change the framerate.
    How can I do this?
Is there any way in FCP Pro HD or Compressor?
    How about After Effects?
    Any reply is a help

Check out Graeme's site. I think he has a frame for frame conversion. You might be able to use Conform in Cinema Tools to simply reset the frame rate to 25fps...

  • HDV NTSC & PAL to SD DVD

    PLEASE HELP!!
I've got two different projects that need to be combined into one dvd for the client.
problem is the first project was shot and edited as HDV 1080/60i and the second at
1080/50i, so i have an NTSC sequence and a PAL sequence.
the DVD needs to be in PAL.
also, i'm completely confused in regards to getting HDV to a SD DVD.
can't figure out what's the fastest, highest quality workflow.
thus far using compressor and dvd studio pro 4 to build the DVD using just the PAL sequence i've gotten nothing but interlaced awful looking video.
i've searched the boards on these subjects but i'm still not getting anywhere, just more confused.
    any guidance is greatly appreciated!
    thank you

thanks RedTruck, i will try this!
    quick question:
is JES deinterlacer the best way to convert the NTSC HDV to PAL HDV (or 1080/60i to 1080/50i)?
client also now wants this on PAL digibeta, so i'm thinking maybe the easiest way of doing all this is getting everything to 1080/50i HDV PAL, exporting via the camera back to HDV tape then taking the HDV tape to a dub house and have it downconverted there to DigiBeta. from that, reimport as SD PAL to make the PAL DVDs. how does this sound?

  • Premiere pro cc 2014 problems with audio

I have edited some sequences in premiere using sony xdcam ex clips. The clips where recorded as 1080 50i. I have edited it in the same sequence properties as premiere sugested it. All there is fine and audio is playing well. The problem strats when i change the sequence properties and select it at 1080 60i or 29p. The audio is distorted and it sounds like robotic, sometimes audio is muted on audio transitions. When i revert the properties back to 50i then all is fine.
Anyone else experience the same problems?

Sometimes i must add some clips that are recorded on canon 6d on 29.97p. and this clips look choppy and jerky on 50i sequence. But on 60i sequence both 50i and 29.97p look good. On premiere cc i cann change sequence properties without any problems with audio, only on cc 2014 that audio problem exist.

  • .mts and .m2ts HD movie files

I have a problem which thousands of other users seem to have as well. I read many discussions about it. Many opinions and no clear answer.
I have a Canon HF 100 HD camera. It generates .mts and .m2ts files which I want to edit in FCE 4.0.1.
1.) Is it possible to edit .mts or .m2ts directly or do I have to convert?
2.) What is the best converter software? I don´t mind paying for it
3.) Which is the best format FCE can handle? I want no loss of quality.
4.) What about ProRes? Does it work with FCE or only with FCP? Or do I have to use the Apple intermediate codec? How is the quality.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
    1. FCE can not edit .mts files natively. However, it does support the AVCHD file format through the Log and Transfer process (check the manual for more info). If you have access to the full file directory or just plug in your camcorder and start Log and Transfer going within FCE, it should work fine without any need for extra conversion software.
    2. You don't need extra software. If you transferred the clips to your computer without their directory structure you can use ClipWrap to convert.
    3. FCE supports AVCHD frame sizes of 1440x1080 and 1920x1080 at frame rates of 60i/30p and 50i/25p. Shoot in one of those and edit in a sequence with properties to match.
    4. FCE does not come with the ProRes codec and it is not supported within the program. AIC is a high quality codec that should fit your needs perfectly.

  • Is this format possible to achieve in Compressor?

    Hello guys,
I have HDV 1440 x 1080 60i footage. I have been asked to convert it for european local TV.
They require these technical specs for all delivered video material.
    Pal DV
    50i
    .avi
    4:3 aspect ratio
( It does not make much sense to me, because I have always assumed that .avi is a format for video streaming and as such can't be mixed up with DV format?? Or do I miss something? )
Would anyone give me an idea, what Compressor settings I should apply?
Thank you so much for your help.

You may want to doublke check what they need or want, but that being said
Anyway first thing to keep in mind is that when converting to 4:3 you may lose some of the shot and need to re-edit. If you are sure that all your footage is within 4:33 without editing, it makes it easier.
Generally what I do is export the timeline in ProRes to try to keep quality, then use Compressor to convert to PAL, make sure to use Frame Controls for resizing and timing to Better - I would change the 1080/60i to 1080/50i that way before doing anything else.
Then I would use Compressor (make a QT Component Setting) to convert to .avi, again with scaling in mind. Note there are different Codecs for .avi that can be selected.
Compressor, in the new versions, does some real nice jobs now for transcoding between formats. There is also Nattress filtrs and hardware solutions out there.
If it needs to be reedited to keep what you want to be seen, dropping the 16:9 into a 4:3 Sequence to edit as needed, then go with the same export process.
You could also just do a one step conversion from the timeline to the PAL avi, and you may want to do some tests to see if you like the results, but it seems to me I get better results with a couple of steps. Also make sure to export as ProRes and self contained if you have room, makes things easier for going back and adding the other steps.
    There are other ways

  • "PAL" HDV to NTSC DVD

Wondering if I can go directly from "PAL" HDV (only PAL in the sense that it's 25fps) to NTC m2v (and ac3 obviously) using compressor with as much quality as possible? I usually do standards conversion within fcp using Natresses plug in, but wondering if this is a viable workflow and whether I should adjust the resizing and retiming controls in the compressor presets for maximum quality.

  • Combining NTSC & PAL footage

I have HDV footage that is both 1080/60i (NTSC) 1080/50i (PAL).
i need to make an edit that includes footage from both, with final delivery being SD PAL DVDS.
what workflow would you suggest, bearing in mind issues of cost and time?
    thanks for the guidance!

well in your favor the resolution of the two formats are the same, so at least the combining of the originals sources does not require scaling ... although there will of course still be some retiming
if the target format s NTSC then the best retiming you'll get is going to be by using the "Slow PAL" method ... that means you're going to slow the footage down by 4%. if the two formats will not be intercut in a manner that would make the difference in speed hopelessly obvious then thats probably the best way to go
to retime using Slow PAL, first open *Cinema Tools* and choose *File > Batch Conform...* then target your PAL media's source directory by selecting one of the source clips within that folder, and in the subsequent Batch Conform window set the *Conform To* popup to 23.978 FPS and click the Conform button.
now switch back to FCP and set the *Final Cut Pro* menu *> System Settings* window *> Playback Control* tab's *Pulldown Pattern* to 2:3:2:3
with that pulldown pattern, using the conformed PAL media in an 60i timebase sequence should produce nice results

  • I have 1080i camcorder; can I input into program as 1080p?

I have the Sony HDR-HC3 which does 1080i. I would like to be able to import the video and output as 1080p as I have a 1080p TV. Can I use the "HDV 1080p" preset to import the video from my camcorder into the program, or do I need to use the "HDV 1080i" preset?
If I need to input as 1080i, there are 2 choices: 1080i25 (50i) or 1080i30 (60i). What is the difference with these two?
    Thanks,
    Brian CHinnock

You shot 1080i, so use a 1080i preset, 60i for NTSC, 50i for PAL. Probably the scaler in your TV will do a better job than PP in converting i to P, so I would leave it interlaced.

  • Outputting a DVCPROHD 24p project to DigiBeta (SD 60i) w/Kona Card

What's the best way to get my DVCPROHD 24p sequence outputted to DigiBeta (SD 60i) w/ the Kona Card? Is there a way to let FCP downconvert and add the 3:2 pulldown on the fly, (or with a render?) or should i export a cut 24p DVCPROHD quicktime movie to after effects, and then render out a 60i KonaSD codec quicktime with 3:2 pulldown to bring back in to FCP to layoff in an SD 60i timeline?
I want to use the method that will get the best quality downconvert and 3:2 pulldown results, since this SD digi is the final product...
    Josh

I don't know about the best way, or the best quality, but if the Kona card you have is the LH, I've heard it will do this live from the SDI output. I suspect this quality would be pretty darn high, though I don't know if anyone has done comparative tests. I think the Kona 2 won't do this for 24p, but will for most everything else.

  • Reverse Telecine DVCProHD 1080/60i 24p Problems!

    Heres what happened.
    1. Captured DVCProHD 1080/60i footage shot in 24P.
    2. Edited footage in 29.97 rate.
    3. Realized Pulldown was never removed.
    4. Selected the bin with all original media, and then selected "tools" menu and "Remove advanced pulldown"
    5. FCP6 batch processed for a while. clip by clip.
    6. after process was finished a few clips per bin are offline.
    7. FCP will not "reconnect" these offline clips.
    8. FCP will not import these clips when accessed through the finder (drag and drop to the bin).
What happened? I need to reimport these clips. I would appreciate any and all help.
    Heres more info...
    1. the clips that processed properly show 23.98 when getting "item properties>format"
    2. offline clips open/play in Quicktime.
    3. when importing offline clips, FCP gives incompatible/unsupported error.
    4. in finder duplicating and renaming offline clip doesnt work.
    5. exporting offline clip to another DVCProHD clip doesnt work.
    thank you for reading.

Wish I could help, but can only post that I too am having problems with progressive footage.
    Heres what happened for me.
    1. Captured DVCProHD 1080/60P footage shot in 24P.
    2. Edited footage in 59.94 rate.
    3. Realized Pulldown was never removed.
    4. Selected original media, and then selected "tools" menu and "Remove advanced pulldown"
    5. Got error stating footage not DVCProHD (which it is).
    6. Tried DVCPro frame rate converter > 23.98 (tried all variables)
    7. At the end of processing clips I get the incompatible/unsupported error.
Did you try the frame rate converter? This option seems great with the ref video option.

  • Export DVCPROHD 720p Under 500MB - Please Help Me! :(

    Hey guys,
Im new to this community but I have a question that has been killing me all night. I have done export after export after export and still, to no avail have i ended at a solution.
    Here is the deal:
I have exported several movies from Final Cut Pro and uploaded them to Vimeo.com in HD and everything has been fine, smooth, and effortless for the most part. When I choose the option File > Export > Quicktime Movie it usually takes under 2 minutes, and creates a self contained movie on my desktop. Problem is this file is 2GB and sometimes wont play on other peoples computers, or macs. Possibly something to do with a final cut setting, not sure.
But here is my problem, I usually go File > Export > Export using quicktime Conversion. I leave the settings as they are, never touch them and just save it to the desktop. It finishes a few minutes later and I have my file, 1280 X 720 resolution, H.264 and there is another codec that reads DVCPROHD 720p. I recently exported an interview I shot the EXACT same way without changing anything accept it seems to be missing this DVCPROHD 720p codec when I check out the file settings..
If i open up the other videos that worked, the settings are pretty m3.06 Ghz uch exactly the same, but they have the "DVCPROHD 720p" codec thing. All the exports I have tried in the last 5 hours don't.. Unless its a 2GB file. The first movies I made were easily as long as my interview and not nearly as big in size.
Im stuck. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong or how to include this codec, or how to export this so its under 500 mb with the dvcprohd thing.
Please help? If anyone actually understood that..

A file uses only one codec, never two. So your files are either DVCPROHD or h264
(or somthing else), but not both.
What codec is your FCP sequence (select the sequence and type command-0)?
DVCPROHD is a better quality codec, might take less time to encode
(depending on your FCP sequence settting) and is medium sized.
h264 is a very high-quality codec for web-delivery, takes a LONG time to encode,
    and results in small files.
Export > Quicktime Movie (using currrent settings, and self-contained)
will use the same codec as your sequence. This is the fastest export.
Export > Export using quicktime Conversion will permit you to make a
lot of choices (and maybe a lot of mistakes). It defaults to h264.

  • What sequence setting would you use to edit 1280 x1080 DVCProHD (P2) and 1920 x 1080 AVCHD (Sony) in FCP. Experiencing Quality and rendering issues.

What sequence setting would you use to edit both 1280 x1080 DVCProHD (P2) and 1920 x 1080 AVCHD (Sony) in a single timeline in FCP. I'm experiencing quality and rendering issues.  I've tried numerous settings but can't seem to figure this one out.  Thanks for your assistance.

Although you can combine the avchd 1920x1080 material with prores 1920x1080 in the same timeline, you might land up saving time just converting everything to 1920x1080 prores 422.   You'd probably reduce the amount of rendering while you're working and exporting when you're done by a great deal.  This workflow will require much more drive space.
