Outputting a DVCPROHD 24p project to DigiBeta (SD 60i) w/Kona Card

What's the best way to get my DVCPROHD 24p sequence outputted to DigiBeta (SD 60i) w/ the Kona Card? Is there a way to let FCP downconvert and add the 3:2 pulldown on the fly, (or with a render?) or should i export a cut 24p DVCPROHD quicktime movie to after effects, and then render out a 60i KonaSD codec quicktime with 3:2 pulldown to bring back in to FCP to layoff in an SD 60i timeline?
I want to use the method that will get the best quality downconvert and 3:2 pulldown results, since this SD digi is the final product...
Josh

I don't know about the best way, or the best quality, but if the Kona card you have is the LH, I've heard it will do this live from the SDI output. I suspect this quality would be pretty darn high, though I don't know if anyone has done comparative tests. I think the Kona 2 won't do this for 24p, but will for most everything else.

  • How do I export FCP project to DigiBeta -- what video card?

How can I export my 90 minute movie edited in FCP to a rented DigiBeta deck, so it will be broadcast quality? What video card do I need to buy? I can't afford an HD, so an SD card is fine for now. Where do I get one? And how much? Are they easy to install? Is it as easy as transferring to mini-DV, but to digibeta? Are there controls while transferring, or does it automatically make a perfect clone of the FCP project onto DigiBeta? I can't find info on video cards in SD anywhere for the MAC. Thank you.

    See if this helps.
In the analog world, every generation - copying from one tape to the next - loses quality. A generation of BetaSP doesn't destroy the material, but a generation on VHS pretty much does.
If you have something important that is already on VHS, it will still lose some quality going to BetaSP. Probably not enough to matter, but the best quality will still come from that VHS tape.
    The analogy to digital video:
Contrary to what everybody thought in the early days, digital video often works the same way. As soon as you commit images to DV compression you have compressed it and lost a lot of the quality of the otiginal camera signal.
As soon as you apply transitions, filters, CC, etc. in editing, you are recompressing and losing more quality. Sometimes these two compressions create visible problems.
Fortunately, outputting that product to DV tape is a digital clone of the date and loses no quality. So there is nothing gained by going to DigiBeta from your system as compared to taking a tape out for transfer.
But when you take that DV edit from DV format to DigiBeta, it is being compressed again. It will lose quality. Not as much as another DV recompression, but enough to make any visible artifacting worse.
The best thing, in my oopinion, for you to do is to move your bits into a DigiBeta-equivalent sequence (is that the same as DVCPro50?) and render. Then find a way to get that into DigiBeta - most likely from hard drive at a service bureau or dub house.
The second best thing you can do is to tell the dub house that your deliverable is going to be DV. If it makes them feel any better you can provide it as a QT file.
In the end DigiBeta will not add to your quality but decrease it. Probably not a enough to matter, but enough to be a ridiculous requirement under the corcumstances.
Also consider whether they are working for you, or you are working for them.

  • I need to output a PAL HDV project from FCP as a PAL DV file with 4 audio t

I need to output a PAL HDV project from FCP as a PAL DV file with 4 audio tracks - specifically one stereo pair to be t1&t3, the other stereo pair to be t2&t4. This is the standard way requested by an international distributor of tv programmes. I understand how to set the sequence in FCP to output 4 audio tracks - either 2 stereo pairs (1&2, + 3&4), or 4 discrete tracks. But how do I then output this as a QT file?
The manual tells me that to export multiple audio tracks, File>Export>QT Movie has it's Config pop-up menu in the Audio Settings area of the General tab of the Sequence Settings. Well, that's set for 4 discrete channels, but the QT export settings only allow for 2 mono or 1 stereo output, and that's what I get when I try it. What it says in the manual just doesn't happen.
Exporting via Compressor, on the other hand, has an abundance of choices of 4-track outputs, none of which are labelled as anything resembling 'discrete'. Would any of those 4.0 settings suffice? Or am I likely to get myself into difficulties further down the line? As I am monitoring for this task on a 2-track audio system, I cannot confirm exactly what I am getting when I use any of those settings.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    John

Call me naive, but I've not heard of splitting the stereo pairs like this before.
What broadcaster? (perhaps one of our EU regulars will drop in...)
You can do all sorts of pairing but it is coincident tracks pairing- eg 1/2 + 3/4
    Sorry I can't offer anything.

  • How can I Know the real time of my 24p project?

I made an animatc as part of planning a 7 min animated video on Premiere Pro using a 24p project, trunsting that my ruler is set to 24 fps and that the time displayed was the real time of the video (not the NDF time), since there was no indication on Premiere's create sequence window that the ruler was on NDF basis. (When you cerate a new sequence,on the new sequence settings window you set the timebase as 23,976, but the ruler is shown as 24FPS, no indication of drop or non drop frame.)
Recently I Had to export a 29,97 version of my project, and it was in fact 14 frames bigger. So I concluded that my time ruler was also showing me a NDF time not the real time of the video.
Is there a way of creating a 24p project, with a ruler that gives me the real "clock" time? Or any Formula to "convert" a NDF time to DF (real) time, so I know where, on an NDF ruler, do I have  to stop to have a 7 min video?
    Thanks in advance

I think the best you can do is use the System Information application (Utilities Folder), looking in the wireless section.

Anthony, thank you very much - this works, though I thought I had tried your process previously without success. I've tried so many things who knows. I've had zero luck going with the Send to Compressor or Export Using Compressor Settings under the Share menu. I'm also finding Compressor 4 to be a real dog on my system even though I have a brand new quad core machine with 8G of RAM. Prior to receiving your post I did come up with a different work process. Using Export Movie from FCP X and then loading the result in Compressor 3 works flawlessly. Thanks again!

  • 60i footage in a 24p Project?

Can I use 60i footage in a 24p project (all DV) without headaches?

  • AJA video card to export FCP project to DigiBeta and BetaSP

On an OSX Mac G-5 computer, is it as simple as just plugging in the AJA Kona video card into the computer slot and it's ready to export a FCP project to DigiBeta or BetaSP deck using the video card patch cords? Or do I have to download drivers and/or codecs to convert the FCP to export using the AJA card?
    Thanks,

Yes you have to download drivers and setups to use the card. it's not painful. Check their website for updates and make sure you use drivers setups compatable with the particular card and version of FCP. You also need a robust enuff disk array to play out the project and appropriate interfacing for the dbeta or BSP ie cables and monitoring. The breakout cables that attach to the card are suitable for a minimalist system but depending on the card and your monitoring system you may require other devices and/or cables for monitoring

  • How to add 29.97 footage to 24P  project?

I have to convert some minidv footage so I can cut it into a 24P project. I understand there's a software plugin that can do this. Anyone?
    Steve

I'm still a newbie and have researched the Nattress filters a bit, but have no 1st hand experience yet. Isn't it the case that you can add 29.97 material to a 24p timeline, but if you do then you're calling upon FCP to do the conversion? I know I've accidentally added 29.97 stuff to a 24p timeline and it did play out, but looked really crappy. So, you would definitely want to use something like Film Effects, Magic Bullet, or Twixtor as this would yield much better quality, correct?
Sorry for the newbie questions, but is this basically how things work?

  • No video output option at movie project setting can not use my blackmagic video card

no video output option at movie project setting can not use my blackmagic video card

There's no change if I hold command-R to boot into recovery. The mac chimes on powerup but nothing else seems to happen.
The machine has an SSD drive in it so I can't even listen to hear if it is loading anything or acting differently when I try different keypresses.
As I had some spare RAM lying around, I've tried swapping that in but no change there either. I still suspect it's a software rather than hardware problem, but without any way to control the boot up, I'm not sure how I can fix it.
I do have remote time machine backups - is there any way of restoring these manually, perhaps by removing the drive from the mac and copying the backup data over using another system? (Unfortunately I don't have any other mac systems to experiment with this, though)

  • How do I copy an iMovie project from iMovie 11 to an SD card

How do I copy/export an iMovie project from iMovie 11 to an sd card on an iMac?

In iMovie, use SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE in the size that you want, and then specify a name and location that you can find, such as on your desktop.
Then, in the Finder, drag the movie you just made to the SD card.

  • Field issue: DVCproHD FCP project to DVDSP?

I have a FCP 6.0.6 project in DVCproHD format.  I want to make an SD DVD in DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1.
First I exported via Compressor, using a DV Anamorphic setting, and made a DVD using that, but the video looked jittery, as if the fields were not set right.  So I re-exported the project via Compressor, using the "DVD Best Quality" setting.  I set it for the appropriate quality for my 1'45" project.  I also went in and changed the Field Dominance in Compressor to "Bottom First".  DVDSP made the 4.5gb disc but it still has that jitter.  The project takes a LONG time to export via compresor, so I'd hate to keep experimenting with different settings.  Any advice would be appreciated.
<edit> I just went back and saw I asked a very similar question back in 2008 and again in 2010.  Clearly I figured it out once or twice already, but since I only do this project once a year I guess I don't retain the procedure, plus I wish I had posted the answer once I got it.  I will definitely do that this time if I get it.

OK I got it.  The trick was to go into Compressor's FRAME CONTROLS panel and change the output fields to "Bottom first."  That was the missing ingredient apparently.  The Field Dominance tab didn't do the trick by itself.

  • How can I produce two outputs of the same project

    Dear Sir,
My aim is to produce two outputs of the same master project,
HTML help and Webhelp each one will be used differently in my
    compnay.
Producing two outputs is fine but the problem was that
external links are done differently for HTML help and Webhelp and
as I Knew from you that this can be solved using conditional tags.
Actually I am new to conditional tags and I don't know how to
use them. Could you please help me to do this or recommend a link
on how to use condtional tags to produce different outputs.
    Thank you very very much

  • Change Build Output Filename for SSIS Project

I have a Visual Studio 2010 solution (TxMExtractLoad) with two SSIS projects: TxMExtractLoad.Discovery and TxMExtractLoad.Contract1.  The project name (in project properties) is set to the proper two-part name in each project.  However, when I
do a "Build", the generated .ispac file loses the second part of the project name: both projects build to "TxMExtractLoad.ispac" (in different directories, fortunately).
I can see where I can change the output *path* for the build, but not the output *filename*.
    Any help, anyone?
    Thanks in advance...

Came across this post whilst encountering the same issue and thought i would post the solution i discovered
The ispac will get its name from the Name defined in the project properties minus whatever is following the final name part
Therefore, your SSIS package of TxMExtractLoad.Discovery will become TxMExtractLoad.ispac
If you change the name in project properties to something like TxMExtractLoad.Discovery.myProject
or TxMExtractLoad.Discovery..ispac then when you build it it will build as TxMExtractLoad.Discovery.ispac
    Hope this helps

  • Problem with multiple output for software simulated project

When a software simulated project in captivate is published more than thrice, the output is not generated properly, i.e not in-line with the project. Is this a problem with my system or due to some settings in captivate which is not activated?

    Thanks for the suggestions Malcolm,
They're very handy app's for sure, but unfortunately they didn't fix the problem.
Detour DID overide the routing for iChat's general bleeps & noises, but not the audio stream from video conferences (which is the problem I want to fix).
If anyone has any other suggestions for fixes, I'd appreciate it!
    Thanks again,

  • Need to output sound in CVI project through sound card

I've been adding a software mod to one of our long standing projects, that involves sound output. Certain pieces of our kit require orientating in a certain way before they can be calibrated, but due to them also being adversely affected by magnetic fields and large lumps of ferrous metal, they are often positioned well away from whereever the PC is that is being used to calibrate them. I've come up with a solution that involves a series of beeps transmitted via walkie talkie, a bit like sonar pings, that can be used to determine when the kit is within tolerance of its required position. Unfortunately whilst developing I hadnt realised that the StartPCSound / StopPCSound only worked on the internal speaker, as I develop on a laptop where all the sound comes through the same speakers. However now I would like to be able to output this sound through external speakers, so can no longer use this functionality - shame as its very easy to use.
So firstly, I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I'll ask anyway - is there anything already in LabWindows CVI that would allow me to do the same sort of thing as StartPCSound - I'm not after glorious sound quality - a square wave will be just fine!
Secondly, has anyone come across any easily configurable .NET or C++ libraries that would allow me to do something similar, and if so can you share you experiences and if possibly some code examples to get me started.
    Regards
    Gavin Summers

I had looked at playing wav files as an option. However I'd need a few. My post originally was a bit misleading as sonar pings are all the same frequency, but closer or further apart. My original solution keeps the pings the same distance apart, but varies the pitch, so as you get closer to the desired alignment, the pings get higher in pitch. When the desired alignment is reached you get a two tones one after another.
However having said that the way you've suggested isn't actually a bad idea, and I certainly could make use of it. Record two tones, use one played at differing frequencies depending on how close to required position I am, and then the other continuously when within acceptable range. I'll check wav playing out as an alternative option.
    Cheers
