Dvd copying please help.

hi there.
I know that with pc's you can put a dvd in 1 drive and a blank in another and clik copy to make a backup copy. is there a way of doing this with a new imac. or do you have to use mac the ripper and toast. thanx please help. also will the new imac isight burn to dvd-r ?

hi, i face the same problem and appreciate your help. I delted iphone and the library. I reinstalled iphoto from the original application install DVD and when trying to open it I get a failure message. My mac version is 10.8.5 and the install disc is 10.6.6. Eject the device.
Close and relaunch iTunes.
If the problem continues, restart the computer and the device.

DVD Size- Please help

I am in a little bit of a panic right now. I am rendering a movie in IDVD that I brought over from Final Cut Express. It's about 52 minutes long and 11GB. I put in a DVD that's only 4.7GB. I didn't know this was the problem. I put it in last night before I went to bed and this morning I got an error. I am assuming this is why I received the error. I am really new to all of this. Are there blank DVD's that will accomodate this size file and will they work with a MAC? Please help. I have to have this done by noon today.

size doesn't matter in iDVD.. only length.. any under 120min is ok.
recommendations:
in iDVD: don't just 'burn', but select 'create image'.
in FCE: don't 'manually' convert into something by choosing 'Export/Quicktime Conversion', just 'Export/Quicktime Movie' - drag that into iDVD.
be sure, FCE project and iDVD project fit the same framerate/standard (25/29.97fps)
don't 'overwhelm' iDVD's dropzones with 'hours' of content.. those dropzones are meant to fit a few seconds (minute) of material..
be sure, your projects contain 'any' audio (even an audio-track of 'nothing' is audio.. but no 'empty' audio track in iDVD please).
when image is created, launch apps/Utilities/DiskUtility to 'copy' disk image onto a 'real' DVD.. choose Verbatim or Toyo Yuden -r ... burn speed 2-4x .

Optical drive does not read CD's but DVD's please help!

when i place any type of CD in my optical drive, after a few seconds the drive ejects. When i place any type of DVD media in the optical drive it reads perfect. any one have a solutions please help..

Well, I bought a CD/DVD cleaner kit, and nothing happened--it didn't even recognize that the cleaner disc was in there and it didn't do anything.
I checked for an optical drive update, but the only one I found was for older Macs for 4X DVDs, which had nothing to do with CDs. Since even music discs won't mount, nor will discs that mount on every other Mac in the house, Macs both older and newer than my G5 and discs both older and newer, I suspect my drive is toast. Dang.

i cant boot from external dvd device to install any os the external dvd keeps on spining and mac is just thinking it doesnt show press any key to install
it shows the device when a boot into mac parition
i am trying to install windows on origianl 500 gb hdd and linux on ssd
but not luck
the external dvd drive works i pluged into my pc and it works

I do not know about Disk Warrior but if you have a compatible OSX on an external HDD you certainly can boot the MBP. Use startup manager:

Exporting for DVD? Please help, I'm going nuts.

Pretty huge issue at the moment. I have a deadline to meet and I can't export my movie out of Final Cut to a DVD. How can I export the timeline for a DVD quality finished product? I don't have Compressor installed and I think this is a major issue. I tried printing to tape so I could bring the project over to Adobe Premiere and use Encore to publish the DVD, but every time I try to print to tape it constantly drops frames and it's hopeless.
If anyone has any suggestions at all please help me!

thing is, I don't have FCS...I have FCP. I had my software installed where I bought my mac from, and I've came to realize now that I have nothing else but FCP installed...there is nothing else there that came with FCS. It's not really a huge problem because I can take my mac back whenever I want to get the owner to install any software I need, but that's kind of an issue at the moment considering I have deadlines. I can't afford to have my mac sitting at their office for a day or two at this point.
If I can just figure out how to print this thing back to tape so I can bring it into Premiere on my PC and use Encore to make the DVD everything will be golden. I'm just having HUGE issues trying to print this to tape...which shouldn't be a problem in the first place. (that I have encountered anyway).

Video_TS folder error! can't get a quality burn for my DVD! please Help

I am currently working on a project in DVDSP 3. i have had problems with the computer freezing while trying to burn my DVD. If the computer didnt freeze while burning the Log (while going through the process) would bring up 2 error signs. One was: "The Video_TS folder will not be included in the final disc." And directly after that it would say: "the VOB_DATA.LAY file will not be included in the final disc. The burn was successful but when i viewed it the quality of the image was fuzzy and not up to par with previous burns.
I found out i had a bad hard-drive. So i replaced it. re-formatted my hard-drive and re-installed all my applications (i.e FCP, DVDSP). I re-compressed all my movies and re-created the entire DVD menu. But the problem still persists!
Please HELP!

When i am about to burn my project should i choose simply "burn" or "build/format" ?
Either one will create a folder on your harddrive with the TS Folders AND burn.
These warnings signify nothing. They're just to inform you that the certain files used by DVDSP to "contact" your initial build folder won't be included in your TS folders.
I can't figure out why Apple states these warnings - they do nothing but scare people

Should I make an HD DVD or an SD DVD? Please help!

I have footage that I shot in HDV quality (1440x1080i). I have edited them and now have 46 moviefiles of between 2 and 2,5 minutes each. The DVD will be used for mass reproduction, so I need to make sure it is playable by all (including older) DVD players.
Does this mean that I cannot make an HD DVD from it and that I should stick to a SD DVD? Is an HD DVD playable on any player? Or does the high resolution give trouble? Please help!

HD-DVD is a now defunct format, it has been replaced by Blu-ray, which DVDSP cannot author to. So if you're sticking with DVDSP, and you want it universally playable, you'll need to stick with an SD DVD.

After 3 trips to the Apple store this week, the issue is still unresolved. The photo dvd's open just fine on Snow Leopard, but are not recognized at all on Lion. I'm guessing since the DVD's were originally burned on a PC, they will no longer work. After finding out that PowerPC is no longer recognized by Lion and I can no longer use Nikon NX2 (Photo editing software), I will be re-installing Snow Leopard. According to the Apple store in Lancaster, Pa. there is no refund available for my Lion purchase. I have a ton of photo DVD's, most of which will not open since I've only recently switched to an IMAC system. It has made me think about returning to the PC world. I'm VERY unhappy with these developments and I really need to re-think my computer situation. I don't do much else besides photography. My purchases and time spent with my IMAC has aparently been a great waste.

Problem with DVD drive, please help

Hi people, please read the whole story and give me some advice.
Last Friday, took the train from Stoke on trent to Birmingham to get to Apple at the bullring as the DVD drive is not recognising DVDs. Everytime I put a dvd in, the blank dvd message comes up! They told me they can replace the drive, but it will take a few days unless I pay for Apple pro care, as I needed it done quick, I paid, I roamed around the shops waiting for the phone call that it is ready. After an hour, got a call saying that the NEW DRIVE they have in stock is faulty, so I came back, they told me that they will call me when they get another one in stock. Went back home after having wasted a day in birmingham.
Monday, got a message on my voicemail, the drive is in stock, pop in and we'll replace it. As I was working all week, I thought I'd give them a ring to arrange for the repair on Saturday where they can fit me. I tried to call all week, THE BULLRING STORE DOES NOT ANSWER THEIR PHONES!
So, I popped in today, they said that they cannot do it today as they were busy. I asked to see the store manager and explained to her the situation and how annoying it is not to be able to get in touch with the store. She told me she'll get it done before closing time.Luckily by 2 pm it was ready, picked up , hopped back on the train to stoke. Got home tried a DVD, it works, then suddenly STOPS WORKING.
The Macbook now doesn't recognise the drive at all, and I've got a DVD stuck in it.
I have wasted another day in birmingham + train fares + Apple pro crae (79.99). I am very frustrated, I am now having second thoughts on the quality of apple products. If the matsui drives are crap, why don't they get another manufacturer to make it for them.
I would appreciate your help on what should my next move be, I cannot keep loosing my time like this, I paid good money for this kit and I need it to work.

Have a read of this article. You definantely should be able to get a full refund (whether they will do that is a different matter).
If you don't ask (firmly) then you don't get. A 12 month warranty is there for a reason so use it. I can't believe they've actually charged you for work already within the 12 month period. I have also being trying ot look for an article about claiming unfair travel to and from a shop for repairs but I cannie find it.....
Would you consider asking for a replacment laptop. From what I have read on the forums, if you call apple they will be more likely to help out, maybe give them a try and avoid Birmingham all together.

I want to get audio only file from DVD-R. Please help.

I have just completed copying a radio play from VHS to DVD-R.
(Recorded off air from high quality BBC FM onto VHS sound only in 1993)
The copy is a success inasmuch as I now have the high quality copy I desire and I can play it (via the DVD player) through the hi-fi with TV turned off.
However, I want to go further and load the DVD-R into my iMac and make an Audio only file of the soundtrack for use on my iPod for instance.
I have no idea if this is possible with the standard iDVD (or other software) on my iMac or how to even start.
I guess it would be equivalent to loading a standard DVD movie and making a file of just the soundtrack.
Has anyone any ideas please?

If you used your computer as part of the VHS to DVD process, then you'll have a digital audio file that we can find, but I'm guessing you used a VHS to DVD standalone recorder. If so, you can use some free software called MPEG Streamclip:
- insert your DVD, and Quit from the DVD Player if it starts automatically.
- start MPEG Streamclip and open the DVD; then open the Video TS folder and open the first of the .VOB files (repeat this step until you find the file you're interested in).
- use the Export to AIFF option and you'll have the audio file.
- you'll be able to bring this file into iTunes, burn it to CD, etc.

Mac OS X Install DVD problem - PLEASE HELP

I click "Install Mac OS X" and it prompts me to retart to begin instalation. WHne I do it asks me for my password and then restarts. it then reloads and doesn't start installing anything. am i doing something wrong? PLEASE HELP

If the DVD is from a specific Mac model, not yours, then it won't work. You need a standard retail version of Tiger.
You might try inserting the DVD in the optical drive, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold the "C" key until the computer starts up from the DVD (gray screen with dark gray Apple logo.) Release the key when the spinning gear appears.
If that doesn't work you may have a bad DVD. You say you burned a copy of the Tiger DVD. If the Tiger DVD you copied is not yours then you are technically pirating Apple's software which is illegal. White screen when playing dvds. Please help.

When I fast forward or rewind a movie on my Macbook the screen becomes white while the movie still plays. It takes about a minute for the white screen to go away. This has never happened before. Is there a problem with my Macbook or is it the dvd?

I actually figured out what was wrong. On my "viewDeactivate" event, I was cleaning up all object references (including the StageVideo instance). So everytime viewDeactivate was dispatched, the blank white screen would show up.
For anyone who runs into this situation (on the iPad), you should know that the viewDeactivate event is dispatched not only when moving between views, but also when alerts (or notifications) popup, when going back to the Home screen, and also when you double tap the Home button for the multitasking bar. Likewise the viewActivate event will fire when you return from any of the above mentioned states on the iPad, not just when moving between views. Knowing this helped me to fix the issue I was facing with StageVideo.
