DVD regions

I have a G4 with a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-116D.
Is there any way to override the region settings so I can play my region 1 & region 2 dvds? I get 5 times to change the setting then I'm stuck.
Thanks.

Hi-
I need you to search Google and read up. Search DVRFlash and go to the RPC-1 forums for all the information that you need.

  • Qosmio G20: How to change the DVD region code?

My DVD is locked into region 1 is there anyway to fix this because I need it to be on region 2.
I have been using it on the correct region which is 2 but for some unknown reason it has locked onto region 1 not allowing me to make any changes.

    Jeffrey speaks well.
However, you must to right click My Computer -> property -> hardware -> device manager ->
dvd/cdrom drivers -> double/click your drive -> dvd region/tab and if you have some
remained possibilities, you can choose region 2.

    Sorry, not possible.
Region encoding is the mechanism that enables motion picture studios to control the worldwide release of their movies. It is required by the DVD Forum (http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml) in all commercial hardware DVD players. Every DVD-Video disc contains one byte of data representing a region code, which limits where the disc can be played.

It may be possible to make your Matshita Superdrive region-free by the methods describe here:
    http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=43082
but please note: you USE THE SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!. The operation isn't officially allowed or sanctioned, which you're supposed to know when you do it.
To make any free=standing DVD player region free, go here:

In the meantime you can use VLC to play DVDs from any region.

  • Can dvd region setting restore by reinstalling mac os?

I am currently using Mbp and have a dvd drive "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-867" with Firmware Revision: HA13. Currently set as region 3. Can i restore the number of chances of changing dvd regions to "no regions is set" by reinstalling mac os?

Note that RegionX only works with a region-free drive. Most Mac drives are not region-free; you can determine the status of yours by downloading this utility:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16366/
If your drive is indeed region-locked; there's probably little or nothing you can do. I have not seen any region-lock hacks for any recent SuperDrives.

  • Error 70001 when changing DVD region (changes still allowed)

I still have allowable DVD region changes left on DVD player, but when I try to apply a region change, error message 70001 appears.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem? I've looked on various online forums and tried using VLC - but this doesn't work - and used MacTheRipper to no avail either.

Are you sure the DVD is region 1 ONLY? You can't always trust the label. I have a three DVD boxed set that says region 1. One of the DVDs is multiple region.

  • Is new Macbook dvd region free or not?

Want to buy one, but concern the dvd reigon lock.

Re: Is new Macbook dvd region free or not?
NO it is not region free.
However I have flashed my drive to be region free (RPC1).
It depends which model of drive shipped with your macbook has got region free firmware out there.
you can get region free (RPC1) firmware for lots of drives from the dangerous brothers
    http://tdb.rpc1.org/
I had to run windows xp using bootcamp on my macbook in order to flash the DVD drive.
Please beaware that flashing your drive will invalidate its warrantly and you should only follow a flash procedure if you can afford to replace the drive should something go wrong. That being said I have been flashing dvd drives since 1999 and have never broken a drive.

  • PowerDVD changed my DVD region! (Can I get back to Region Free?)

Sorry to bother you, but I have a problem and I'm hoping you can assist me.  I purchased a new Lenovo ThinkPad T530.  The first time I put in a DVD (Region 1), PowerDVD told me it couldn't play because it was the wrong region.  It listed my drive region as "FREE" and that the DVD required Region 1.  It asked me the question, "Are you sure you want to change your region?"  I did NOT want to change the region from "FREE" to "1".  I read the question several times to make sure I didn't misunderstand the question and hit the wrong button.  I clicked NO.  However, it changed my DVD Region!  Now it's listed at Region 1 in Windows 8 Device Manager!  Why would it do this?  Please tell me this is just a software setting from PowerDVD, and that it hasn't changed my drive region in the Firmware.  If it's been changed in the drive firmware, how can I set it back to region free?  Thank you for your help.

In some versions of software, "free" means that no region has been assigned yet and that you must identify a region on startup.

  • DVD regions and macbook pro

Does anyone know where the DVD region information is stored, in the MBA or in the external drive?
In other words would it be possible to buy two external drives, one set to Region 1 and the other to Region 2, and then watch both American and European DVDs on the same MBA?
I'm not sure it is worth it, and I do not even have an MBA yet, but it would be interesting to know how it works.

    Graham K. Rogers wrote:
It is not stored in the MacBookAir as far as I know. I tried this earlier today and while the DVD drive brings up a panel if I put in a disk from the wrong area, there was no dialogue at all on the MBA.
Good news! And the dialogue on the DVD drive allows you to change region, right? So even if I buy a DVD drive in the UK, I can set it to the American region 1?
As a note, with two videos (and two computers) I found that both times the disk would appear on the MBA but nothing would happen. You need to start the DVD Player and then it will work, unlike a machine with a drive when the player opens automatically.
That's good to know, but I would hardly have noticed. I disable that function on my Macs in the System Preferences, almost the first thing when I get a new one.

  • DVD region free

I travel all the time and pick up DVDs all over the world which I can play at home on my region-free player. But it's frustrating not to be able to play them on my Toshiba Satellite M65 S9091. I bought it in the USA, changed the DVD region to 2 because I live in the UK and dare not change again because one day I might have to change for urgent business reasons and don't want to limit my options. I've already had to do that twice, so am close to the limit.
However, it's a real bind 'on the road', stuck in a hotel not being able to play an old favourite region 1, or something just picked up at the airport.  Can I unlock the DVD drive to region 0?  I'm not worried about warranty - my laptop is four years old! (It's given excellent, trouble-free service, by the way!).
I suppose I could buy another make new - most of them play all regions nowadays - but £500-£700 for casual entertainment seems wasteful when the roof of the house needs looking at before winter sets in!
    Solved!

You could buy a USB external DVD drive that is region free, then you can play your discs, and if you ever decide to upgrade the laptop, you won't have to worry about having to find one that has a region free DVD in it.

  • DVD Region

    Hello again,
Its just been a week now for me and I have already fallen in love with my MAC.
I have a question though about this DVD Region. Everytime I insert a DVD into my MAC, I get a pop asking me to change the region. I tried searching in this forum and found couple of discussions regarding this. I learnt that the DVD region can be changed for a max of 5 no. of times. *But what after that ?*
Can someone please explain what would be the problems if it the DVD region is changed for 5 times. I would be disappointed if it wont allow me to watch DVDs in my MAC.
    Thanks & Still Learning,
    Himanshu.

    Try playing DVDs with VLC
    <http://www.videolan.org>
With many Macs, it will play DVDs even if their region code doesn't match that of the drive, so you don;t have to change the region code.

  • DVD region change isn't needed anymore?

When i first got my macbook pro i set the dvd region to 4 not allowing to play some of my dvds which were region 1 which was fine as i didn't want to use up 1 of the 5 times to change the region.
I only watched region 4 dvds and whenever i inserted a dvd with region 1 the screen came up asking if i wanted to change the region so i could play the dvd, i always declined.
I recently got dvds which are region 4 and they are also region 'all'.
I then got a new dvd which was region 1 and i thought i would just try it out and i put it in and it automatically started playing and the screen never came up asking me to change my region.
I thought it would be just that dvd but now all my other region 1 dvds work as well.
I thought maybe i did accidentally change it to region 1 but my region 4 dvds also work without asking me to change the dvd region.
I was wondering if by doing this, if it is still using up the 5 changes allowed?
Or if it isn't as the screen is not coming up anymore and that i'm free to play any dvd now?

    wayne.jensen,
you could download, install, and run DVD Info X 3 to find out the region change status of your SuperDrive.

  • DVD Region locked?

I want to change the DVD Region back to my own country and it says that I have one change left but won't let me, why?
    Is it locked?

Set up a new account.  If the problem appears there, then you will know it's a system wide.
    Run Apple Hardware Test.
    =================
Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
    Try changing the DVD region.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.
