DVD space issue
So, we have a disc that must contain 8 seperate languages, contain 30 quizzes per each language, 30 lessons per each, and each quiz has 5 questions with it's own "correct" and "incorrect" screen.
Okay, so I have finished the english portion and am moving on to the spanish. The disc is already at 5GB with the video as mpeg2, audio as ac3 and menus as .pict files.
there are about 200 menus for the english quiz, each with 4 buttons and no transistions added.
Here's the problem...when I add the Spanish quizzes, the disc size jumps up a gig. The size of each menu is inconsistant. One menu with the quiz assests is only 386kb and another menu is 12mb. The jump is occurring when I add button styles-ex. a rectangle from DVDSP button inspector.
The project crashed last night and when I opened it this morning, I got the message "file format not supported" and had to revert to a back up that I saved on a differet hard drive. So is there a limitation to what this program can handle as far as the complexity of a project?

It varies sometimes its right sometimes its wrong but the amount is always different. The sure way of knowing how big a project is is to do a build and check how big the resulting folder is.
And do you know how big the menu's are BEFORE anything is added to them? Also how big the >buttons are. Every bit of space counts.
No but you can check this by doing a new project with one menu no buttons and a track with content that you know the size of, do a build and check the resulting VIDEO_TS folder. Repeat with say for buttons.
I'm guessing that you figured that the best way to make this project was to create all the English then duplicate all the menus, rename them, and then replace all the content in them and redirect the links in these new menus. This kind of copying has cause the project gauge to be wrong (for me) in the past.

I'm trying to figure out what's going on with colour spaces once I export a video. I've made a video from srgb jpegs and everything looks fine in Premiere Elements, but as soon as I export it as a video (have trived several formats) the colours are dulled and the contrast reduced (a common colour space issue).
Does anyone know why this happens and if so how to avoid it?
Specifically in this case I'm exporting photos from Photoshop Lightroom to srgb jpegs which I then import to Premiere Elements 7. The original pictures as well as the jpegs look fine. The jpegs and the movie also looks fine inside Premiere, but as soon as I export it to an avi or quicktime file I get something like a 15% decrease of both contrast and saturation.One problem exporting to Quicktime from Premiere Elements has been discussed in the past, and it was found that PE does not correctly write atom data to the MOV header, so that when you play back the MOV file, it plays back in Apples color space on a PC, giving it a washed out look. The only computer where they will look correct is on an Apple computer. I've exported to Quicktime in other applications, and the results come out correctly when played on a PC.
And then, media players can make the video look too dark or too light, depending on which video renderer is used. In some video applications you have an option to select from 4 different types of video rendering for previewing playback. Some make the video look perfect while others make the video have less contrast. Then you may think that your video or images don't look right, and you start making color corrections.
On my computer Premiere Elements doesn't use the overlay mode, which is the mode that most closely resembles playback on my TV when the DVD player has black levels turned off. When editing in Premiere Elements, highlights look blown out. At one time I would compensate by changing the contrast and brightness. But after burning a DVD and playing it back on TV through the DVD player or in Windows Media Player, the video was too dark.
I've learned not to mess with the color too much in Premiere Elements. Not everyone will be able to play back your video and see it the way you intended. -
ITunes for 64bit Windows 7 Driver/CD/DVD/Drive Issues-

I am sure that there are many many users out there suffering the same frustration as me in regard to ITunes just not working properly with Windoews 7 (64Bit).
I have been trying to solve the mystery of "ITunes for Windows Registry Settings Warning When Opening Itunes.
I have tried all the recommended actions to correct this problem without any success and I do mean ALL.
Below is a screen shot of my registry, can anyone see anything wrong with it?
In the meantime (Last four months) I have stopped using ITunes and instead have used Digital 7, this will be my very last attempt to get ITunes working properly, failure will mean consigning ITunes to the same place as any other Software that does not do wshat it says on the can.

Also, are the drives listed in Computer and device manager or just device manager?
I want to verify if the symptoms are present for a particular software issue before looking at other issues. I really doubt it is a driver issue at this point. If it was, then I suspect the issue would be present from day one.
It could be that the lens has dust buildup preventing it from working properly. They do make CD cleaning kits that have a special CD designed to clean the laser as it passes over the lens. If you happen to have one of these, or access to one, I recommend trying this step to make sure it isn't as simple as dust buildup interfering with the laser.
It could also be hardware failure, but I would like to try a few other steps before coming to that conclusion.
It may be worth reviewing this document as it covers a lot of the most common issues behind DVD drive issues. Feel free to skip any steps you have already tried.

I still have Cd/DVD drive issues
The CD is ejected after a short while and never mounted. I have cleaned the optics of the CD drive and reset my PRAM.
Has anybody discovered a complete solution for this problem.That's good that it is in device manager, but what about in Computer with the rest of the drivers?

There is an space issue in datatop.Could you please help me out in deleting any logs and unnecessary data in that location.As the mount which own datatop is completely filled.

Do you have any archivelog files on this disk? If so, consider moving/deleting obsolete files. For datafiles/tablespaces, if it is possible to shrink it, please do so. Otherwise, you need to move it to some other disk.
Also, if AUTOEXTEND is enabled, you need to disable it (at least for now) until you have more space on this disk.

IDVD Status DVD Capacity issue
The DVD Capacity indicates 2.6GB & 77 min. when I start the burn process to create .img file. When it finishes (& usually fails) the DVD capacity indicates 3.6GB and 77 minutes. I've never had this problem before.
My iMovie consists of 786 jpg photos with subtitles on each and background music. iDVD will create the .img file OK if have no chapter markers. As soon as I add chapter markers I get the -34506 error. I tried exporting to QT and back. I've tried exporting to tape and back with same results. While working on this project I've done iMovies consisting of 99% imported video, 80 min. long and everything goes fine. I do all the delete pref.,repair permissions, clear caches, restart, etc.
Any idea why the DVD capacity indicates such a file increase? Must have something to do with "all photos". It appears about 1 hr of photos is the limit in iMovie. Why? I have plenty of free space on the hard drives. I wonder if my memory of 768MB is a limiting factor. Thanks Terry

I'm not sure on this one, but I think that when iDVD encodes your movie, it resizes it to make the best use of the entire DVD space which is under 4GB (out of 4.7GB). This way it chooses the best size to provide the best quality /VS available space on the DVD given the entire numbers of files.

instead of exporting the file (I assume from iMovie), why not use the file inside the iMovie Projectfile? No need to export anything. Save one step.
Chapters
1-Once you have saved your project in iMovie, you can select the iMovie file(wherever located- movies folder) while pressing the "control" key. You will be getting a list, containing "show package content".
2-if you have created chapters in iMovie, then select content>shared file>iDVD>XXX.mov.
(If you did not create any chapter, the folder iDVD would not exist. skip to "No chapters" below)
3-this file named XXXX.mox (XXX =the name of your file) you can now drag & drop over the iDVD window.
it will do 2 things. a- it will create one link called xxx.mov for selection of that movie. b- it will also create a folder called "scenes selection" containing all chapters in the iMovie.
all that without having to export your iMovie to QT.
No Chapters
If you did not have any chapters, thenn you can still follow the same as step 1 and 2 above, but from content>cache>timeline.mov.
This file contains the movie without any chapters.

11g 11.1.1.4.0 premgen space issue
I had 11.1.1.3.0 installled in XP-2.8 GHZ (core 2) 3GB machine and it was running fine with
-Xms512m -Xmx1024m PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
Then I have installed 11.1.1.4.0 and statred getting 'could not allocate heap memory to JVM' so I have chnaged the setting to
-Xms512m -Xmx768m PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
Then I got 'premgen-space' issue repetedly so change to
-Xms512m -Xmx768m PermSize=512m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
or -Xms512m -Xmx768m PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
But still I am getting this premgen-space issue after every 10-15 minutes hence unable to work.
Guru's pleas suggest for best JVM memory setting.

BiltuWhen configuring PermGenSpace you must be aware that this is taken from the HeapSize (physical RAM does not count). Things get difficult if the PermGenSpace equals the MaxheapSize. A good setting is -Xmx2048m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m.
Since you run the Sun JDK, you could give jvisualvm a try. My tip is to get the plugins and use the VisualGC one to monitor the memory.

Mohamed FazilI don't know what you mean with too much diskspace? Perhaps you can post the sizes here and the number of entries in your system so we can evaluate if it's normal or not.
Most of the tables you list should not be touched and if you truncate link and entry you will delete all your assignments and entry data, and you would possibly be looking for a new job the next day.
The log tables should be maintained by the housekeeping as mentioned, but

can be cleaned but neither should have that much data, but large amounts of transactions cause logs to grow. Have you checked that your backup is cleaning the transaction logs? Also reduce loglevels to ERROR to reduce the amount logged here.
MXP_Audit_Variables should not contain audits that are not in the provisioning queue, if you delete those workflows will fail.
MXP_Ext_Audit can probably be cleaned without affecting operations (reports might be affected though) but you'll loose the detailed execution history on the entries, perhaps you can do partials, delete entries older than 3 years or similar.

I was reading through the posts tonight looking for a hopeful solution to my answer, but it's not happening! I use spaces ALL the time. Yes, I have the Microsoft word annoyance, but I've learned that when you have all spaces on the screen at the same time, you can drag from one space to another. Took a long time to learn that one! Anyway, tonight I was using itunes and spaces stopped working. I have mine set up that when I hit the center button on my mouse, all the windows appear on the screen. Using itunes however, it wasn't happening. I'm not sure if it's an itunes or spaces issue, but since I opened itunes, my center button to activate spaces no longer works, but the key commands do. I need it to work with my mouse again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Oh, by the way. I have since quit itunes and the center button to activate spaces still does not work!It is the one thing in Leopard that is going to cause me to lose my mind. I tried Spaces but really do not find that it is helpful to me. Thus, I turned it off. Now when I work in with multiple apps (let's say Mail and Firefox) an app window - let's say Mail - will suddenly disappear and no amount of clicking or restarting the app will bring it back The only thing I can do is turn Spaces back on and - VOILA- the Mail window re-appears. This is incredibly annoying. It is forcing me to keep Spaces on even though I hate it.

I've seen this happen when the phone was encrypted... Other than calling apple/deleting passcodes I don't know of any solution.
If you're keen on waiting, upload your photos to dropbox, that's the way I do it. -
Recently, I have come across an issue playing back DVD's with
VLC or XBMC. When I start playback of the DVD, it plays the first
segment ( the studio leader at the beginning) and will then just quit.
Apple's DVD Player works fine (quality is crappy and can't get surround
tracks out of it). Yet, when the DVD is ripped to the hard drive and
played from there, it is works just fine.
Also, this happens when the DVD is played back from an internal
or external drive.
Has anyone else seen this issue or do I have a unique problem?My unit is a 2010 MacMini with HDMI. (see list)
The quality issues with Apple DVD player vs. other solutions are certain
scenes have a graininess akin to noise on old analog tv's that aren't
present on the other players and severe banding in gradients that
do not appear in other players, at least when they were working.
As far as the audio, selection in the DVD's menu itself just makes no difference.
Tried all the combinations of messing with Audio MIDI setup, third party
plugins like Perian, none of which work for Apple's DVD player. This was
the other reason for going to third party players, the higher quality video
was just a bonus.
Your point has been taken that it may be a software issue with the third party players.
Some update at some point may have broken them, be it OSX or their own.
I've beaten the Apple DVD player issue enough, let's just consider the topic dead.
The audio issues with it are spread over many, many threads across the web, with
no silver bullet solution to all.
As for BluRays, play them back all the time on my Mini. Either with
PowerDVD 10 in a Bootcamp windows7 when I want full DTS-HD or
TRUE HD decoding (decodes these to up to 24 bit,192kHz 7.1 since the
Mini chipset does not have the "protected" path for pass through of
these technologies) or a MakeMKV/XBMC combo in OSX. The OSX
solution doesn't give you the fancy menus and all or HD audio if present,
but if I only want to watch the movies it's fine. If I ever do want the other
nonsense, I just use PowerDVD 10. And please note this is BluRay disk
in player, not "ripped" or transcoded.
I do appreciate your help, but was primarily curious if others had issue
as well.

2.1.2 update does not fix DVD Navigation issues :(
The FrontRow 2.1.2 update still doesn't fix the DVD navigation issues where sub menus on MANY DVDs are not navigable. Using the up / down keys on the keyboard or remote causes the Volume to change and not navigating the menus like it is supposed to.
This is a severe issue as it makes it impossible to play some DVDs or turn on the subtitles.Yeah, I have experienced this as well. Ridiculous -- how could this issue not have come up in product testing by the time the software has reached version 2.0? The solution on Apple's end should be obvious. All 4 directional buttons must act only as directional commands when using a DVD, and all other functions (such as volume) can only be accessible by hitting MENU first to bring up a list of other options.
I'm all for simplicity, but this is the fault of the boneheaded 6-button Apple Remote. It requires their software to overload buttons with different commands depending on context, which is clearly an unacceptable limitation. They'll have to break down and roll out a proper remote with more discrete buttons one of these days and come to terms with the fact that shoehorning everything onto 6 buttons is not an elegant solution. -
Space issues while extracting text
Hi,
I am using PDTextSelectEnumText to extract text containing both Japanese and English.My sample document has 2 scenario:
a)space between English and Japanese text. b)no space between English and Japanese text.
my issues is with space,Which gets added to the end of English text,leading to string mismatch between extracted text and original pdf text.(for 2nd scenario)
what changes I need to do,to read the space explicitly(if present between the text).
Or is their any other function for text extraction.

SindAcrobat 7 hasn't been supported for at least 3 years now. You will need to move to Acrobat 9 and the 9 SDK (or later) to obtain support.
