DVD writer update

I have a hp pavillion G5410uk desktop. Recently a virus "Delta search" embedded itself when I reinstalled mozilla firefox and I couldn't remove it. It wouldn't let me remove firefox either so eventually as a last resort I did a system restore to factory conditions which meant I lost downloads including a DVD update ref sp57159. Now I cannot reinstall the update because it refuses me access as I need to be logged on as an administrator. I am a home user. Please can you advise on how to get round this.

Hello again swearydad.
If you're the only user of the computer then you should be the Administrator.  I am not sure what could be going on there.
Do you have an anti-virus program?  I suggest you run a scan with both that and an anti-malware program such as MalwareBytes.  There may be some malicious software causing problems on the machine still.
Have you tried right clicking on the update and selecting "Run as Administrator?"
Have a good afternoon.

    Hello all.
i have a dvd writer here that needs to be updated.
    The model number is HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GSA-H60L.
The trouble is that the firmware updater needs a Windows Vista 32 bit system to work, but i don't have one available at this time.
Is there a workaround for this?
    Thanks.

  • Why no updated firmware for hp dvd writer 1260d? MID codes are outdated. Can't burn many disc brands

I have an HP Pavilion a610n. The operating system is WIndows XP. No error messages. No recent installations.
As stated, many modern brands of discs used for burning have modern MID Codes. This is especially true of Double Layer (DL) discs. Unfortunately, my HP DVD Writer 1260d (that I bought within the past two years) seems to be antiquated or on the road to being obsolete because no firmware updates are available for this model with its old, old MID Codes. (Just to get this off my chest, my second question might be "Why would I ever buy another HP computer since this one continues to be a complete headache in every way?")

I'm having the same problem using Toast 7 to burn a Video TS movie I made. I'm using an external Lacie 16X DVD-R DL drive and an iMac G5 2.0, and Mac OS 10.4.3
After several failures with Interface Error 5, I tried copying a DVD movie I made from another DVD. This was created with the same Lacie drive using Mac OS 10.3 and my old iMac FP 15 inch. I got the same failure message.
I then switched my Lacie Drive to the USB port and everything is working fine. I switched it back to FireWire and I get the same error message again.
I can play DVD's on the Lacie with either the USB or FireWire port without any problem, I just can't record using the FireWire port. The FireWire ports on the computer work fine with all my other FireWire devices.
It must be a combination of 10.4.3, Toast 7 and Lacie FireWire. I'm going to recheck Lacie's site to make sure I have all of the updates.

  • ITunes will no longer write to my CD/DVD writer

I put in a blank CD-R and iTunes tries to read it, then ejects it and say insert a blank CD.
Diagnostics report says it's a chip issue?? Only iTunes is having an issue. If I put in a CD-R that is already written to, then iTunes can read it fine and copy in the files from the CD.

The last failed audio CD burn had error code -128(0xffffff80). It happened on drive E: HP DVD Writer 740b on -128(0xffffff80) media at speed 0X.

I have been through many threads on here about the superdrives not burning any DVD's.  It doesn't seem to be a matter of brand.  Whenever I use Toast or Disk Utility to burn files/images, etc, the drive always fails with an error.  Many posts have said the drives are bad, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  I think there is some problem with Mountain Lion because until I upgraded, I didn't have any issues.
    Reasoning:
    1) I had no issues with snow leopard or previous issues
    2) I have a windows VM under parallels which burns DVDs perfect and rather speedily, no errors whatsoever and I have burned over 20 DVDs with no problems, so it's not the hardware.
Not that I want to always have to fire up my windows VM to burn DVDs, but that seems to be the answer for now until Apple addresses the issue with burning software under Mountain Lion

  • DVD Writer won't read disks

I have a problem with my DVD Writer in Windows 8.1 (64 bit)...after inserting disk (either blank or readab le), the computer hangs, and the only exit is to shut down the machine.  Device Manager   shows the unit as installed and working correctly.
I've tried all the following steps with no joy:
Updated, disabled and uninstalled driver (MS 6.3.9600.16384).
Tried all SATA ports and changed SATA data cable.
     Ran Windows DVD troubleshooter.
Ran MS Fix-it program.  It hangs computer after "Insert readable disk" .
Tried MS recommended registry hacks:  #3:  No upper or lower filters shown; #5: No help.
After this, I figured the fault must be in the DVD unit (a Lite-on) so I bought a new one (HP 1265d) and installed it.  Same problem... even after re-running the above steps!  Windows 8 installed OK months ago using the device,  and thats probably
the last time I used it for DVDs, so that pretty much rules out a System Restore.   I am now assuming that the problem will be found in:  (1) driver; (2) corrupted Registry; or (3) SATA ports on  the Motherboard (Gigabyte G41M-ES2L)
but have no idea how to proceed from here.  Would appreciate any help or ideas.

    Hi
It would be helpful if you included the optical drive model info (from Apple System Profiler), and complete your Mac profile; there are 6 different G4 models. Include what type of blank media, and whether the drive holds but does not mount the media, or if it ejects it.
applehistory.com can be helpful if you are unsure which flavour G4 you own.

  • DVD writer trashes out at 3/4 - 7/8 done - L505D-S6947

    L505D-S6947
Win Vista 32 bit w/ service pack 2 and all updates installed
Has 6GB as 4GB Crucial and 2GB Samsung, so I am wondering can memory >4GB and a 32 bit OS be somehow causing this?
The DVD writer is making coasters.  It will burn about 3/4 of the way to the dege of the disk, then quits with an error message, and a question about is the disk is scratched or dirty.   This has happened repeatedly.  I ma using Memorex DVD-R  16x  and have tried burn speeds lower than 8x and still the ame thing.
The DVD drive has been used very little, so I'm sure it's not dead from over use, haha.  Does it need cleaned?
This is the first time I've used Memorex. I had a stockpile of old DVD disks like Maxell and then all worked fine.  I want to back up my data and also make ne new set of Restore disks before I wipe and restore this computer.
Has anyone seen this problem before?    The disk is formatted, some of the file folders are readable on another machine and the Toshiba L505D.  Other files appear to be corrupted.  So, I am getting partially successful burns, and succesful formats.
eta:  I found and tried http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

I "recovered" this computer to factory install, updated all Win Vista OS and Toshiba files.    Tried burning Sony CD-R disks, and made the 4-DVD recovery set without a hitch.    The problem was any or all of:
--  bad or inconsistent quality media
--  corrupted OS (what I really think it was)
--  dirty laser  (not very likely)
L505D-S6947 runs much smoother after the complete "housecleaning,"  haha.

  • HP DVD Writer 740b not recognizing DVDs

My 740b will not recognize DVDs. I have no problems with CDs but any DVD I put in the tray isn't recognized. I initially thought the problem was with the DVD+R I was using but I also have a Slimline s3132w with a DVD writer installed and it burned and read the same discs with no problems. I tried several commercal DVDs (movies) and when I try to play them I get a no disc in drive error. I also have a Lite-On DVD SOHD-16P9S DVD ROM on the same system and have no problems what so ever playing the same discs. I have tried replacing the ATA data cables post attempting the trouble shooting tips given on the support web page. I have upgraded the firmware hoping this might alleviate the problem with no success. As I stated before this problem is only with DVDs, the drive has no problems what so ever with CDs. I have a feeling the problem my be with my updating to Windows XP SP3. I had done so before but removed it because my Linksys Wireless Adapter(PCI) wouldn't function with it installed. That problem has been repaired and now this. The system the drive is installed in is as follows:
     HP a1203w
                      cpu: Athlon 64 3800+ @ 2.2ghz
video: ATI 9550 w/256mb video memory
audio: Sound Blaster Audigy Z2S Platinum
             boot drive: Seagate ST340014A 40GB
    secondary drive: Seagate ST3250620A 250GB

OK chalk me up too to the list of users whose HP DVD Writer 740b cannot "see" blank DVD's and CD's.
Full marks to HP in that I am still smoothly running a Pavilion Media Centre PC EG211AA-ABG m7288a. I find the older plug compatablity useful and have beefed up RAM making it still a powerful "retro" media machine after all these years.....
However after a power failure caused a disk error that trashed my Windows XP and while it restored (as in full reset) like a trooper I took the opportunity to do a clean upgrade to Windows 7 (64bit) seeing as XP is no longer supported. And yes my HP DVD Writer 740b cannot detect blank DVD's and CD's although it can read those with content. It seems to be acting more like a CD ROM drive than a Read Write drive.
I have tried ALL the suggested fixes to no avail and yes my "shell detection" service is operational and on automatic.
But here's the rub as it were. My HP Support Assistant assures me that I have a HP DVD Writer 740b installed and running ED24 firmware. So I was hopeful when I found that there was an HP upgrade from the ED24 firmware (sp26595.exe - DVD-RW 16X HP DVD Writer 740b Drive Firmware Update ). HOWEVER even if I run it in XP compatable mode it returns the message that I do NOT have a HP DVD Writer 740b installed and therefore no upgrade is required.
The label on the front of the drive is "LightScribe DVD +/- Writer / CD-Writer".
Is the HP Assistant wrong in identifying it as an HP DVD Writer 740b? Also could the drive be getting confused thinking a blank disc is a lightscribe disc in upsidedown ready for printing? I have to try and find a way to reload the LabelPrint software (have the LSS) that was lost when I upgraded to Windows 7. Probably can't retrieve it from the old XP recovery disk.
Any NEW thoughts (especially as to why firmware upgrade does not see the drive) most wrlcome as apart from this one little thing the Pavilion is performing like a trooper and is an excellent advertisement for the durability of HP products (which is why we brought 3 HP laptops as well.
    Hopeful thanks in advance.

  • HP DVD Writer 1170d DH22 180 PROBLEMS

    I purchased a HP DVD Writer 1170d DH22 180 lightscribe in Sept.
It installed just fine and burns cd, dvd and dvd DL disks just fine. The problem I have is getting it to see a DL lightscribe disk so I can right to it.
The disks I bought are DVD+R DL VERBATIM 8X LIGHTSCRIBE. The lightscribe part worked just fine but it says on a BLANK DISK and I mean all the ones I bought that the disks are full so I cant write to it. I thought maybe because I lightscribed one first to try it out maybe I screwed up the write side of the disk so I put in a new one with nothing on it and same thing.
    Operating system is:
    Microsoft windows XP home edition
    Service pack three
Anybody got any help on this???
    Thanks

I'm having very similar problems.  I have Vista Ultimate 64 installed on a new build, and I bought this drive specifically because of its lightscribe capability.  I am using HP brand lightscribe media.  My first disc label burned just fine, and since the drive will not detect media.  I have updated the LS system software, have tried to get a newer driver (but the 2006 version seems to be it) and I'm starting to think I made a mistake shopping with HP yet again.  I am having this problem in any labeler, whether LS Simple Labeler, Nero, or any other.  I've tried like 4.  I"ve uninstalled and reinstalled everything, I even tried plugging this drive into a different SATA port on my motherboard, and nothing seems to work.  Is this product just defective?

  • My dvd writer is not working. 3000 C300

I have been not been able to get my dvd writer to write on either +/- dvd disc. Its says that the disc is not compatible with the drive or it will say that the drive is not recognized that I may need to update the drivers firmware. I have a 3000 C300 and I did upgrade it from Vista to Win7. Not sure if the dvd writer worked before this upgrade i never tried to burn a disc with the Vista. If anyone could help me that would be great. I really don't want to try and dismantle this computer and replace the writer all together although I really want to replace the processor on this system. I just is not something I really want to do so please if you can help me with this that would be great

  • DVD Writer R6112 malfunctioning

Hi guys...Just wanna say thanks in advance to anyone who tries to help me out on this one.
I have Toshiba Satellite M30-106 and am having countless number of problems with the DVD writer (R6112 firmware 1332 I think). Because I don't use the DVD writing much I only realised the problem recently. When using Orange Top Bulkpaq discs or Datawrite discs the writer creates the discs as if nothing is wrong but then cannot read its own creations.
However, other drives can sometimes read them but normally not very well. I have been trying to find firmware updates but they don't seem to be for the revision I have got.
Can someone help? Is it the media I am using or is there something wrong with my drive? Is there a list of media that will definitely work? I am reluctant to send my laptop to Toshiba as I don't want to run the risk of losing data and I can't back it up!!
    Thanks for your help

    Hi
In my opinion you should try at first to use a few different medias to see if there is just problem with some specific blank CD`s or DVD`s. It will be also interesting to know if you have any problem with original CD`s or DVD`s that you can buy in every store.
I don`t know which burning software you use but try also to use a different one or try to burn CD`s using Windows burning option.
If the problem is still there it can be some serious problem. In this case you must contact the service partner. All your data you can try to save on some external device like USB stick or external HDD.
    Bye

I have bought a plug and play LITEON DVD Writer. Nothing happens when I connect it to the Yoga. It works fine on an ASUS laptop so it must be something on the Yoga.
On the Yoga it lights up but does not appear on the Drives.
If I look in Settings it appears on OTHER DEVICES as
MASS STORAGE DEVICE - Driver Error
I know there is nothing wrong with the LITEON
The USB ports work fine on the YOGA
    Thanks

The power is fine as the drive works on other PC's. We tried other drives on this PC and still didn't work.
I am no expert but my IT dept at work tried to explain that the Driver is corrupt but part of the operating system. Not possible to update or reinstall.
I called John Lewis. They immediately said no problem. We will swap it for a new one.

  • Pioneer DVD Writer Model DVR107D notification Internal hardware error

I have a power PC TigerOS 10.4.11 and I have an onboard Pioneer DVD writer model DVR107D.  I am having a problem with notification saying that there is an internal hardware error right at the end of the writing and verification doesn't occur.  I have looked for firmware update on Pioneer website, but cannot find for a Mac.  I wonder whether an update to apple software has caused this problem?  Is there any advice regarding this issue?

    Hi-
I doubt that a software update is the issue given the OS version that you are running.
It could be a laser issue, either due to age or dirt.
It may also be a media compatibility issue, in which a firmware update would help.
Use the tools on this page for the DVR-107:
