Dynamic data inside a chart's dataProvider

Dear Members,
I am adding some extra touches to my application, it's basically a tool to give online presentations so I would like to add some charts for a more visual experience.
I am using the Flex Pie Chart that I create dynamically with actionscript:
private function createChart():void
series = new PieSeries();
series.nameField = "label";
series.field = "data";
series.filters = [];
chart = new PieChart();
chart.percentWidth =100;
chart.percentHeight = 100;
chart.showDataTips = true;
chart.dataProvider = medalsAC;
chart.series = [series];
charts.addElement(chart);
The above code works fine, the problem is with providing the data for my chart. Below you can see that I created some variables in which I store data. Now the problem is that when I assign these variables like you see below, the chart won't show them. It only shows the static data (200) from the first product.
So I wonder what I am possibly doing wrong? I guess it's something very simple, but without those dynamic vars I can't use the charts.
private function setChartData():void
var data2:uint = 200;
var data3:uint = 300;
var data4:uint = 200;
var arr:Array = [];
arr.push({label:"Product 1", data: 200});
arr.push({label:"Product 2", data:data2)});
arr.push({label:"Product 3", data:data3});
arr.push({label:"Product 4", data:data4});
medalsAC = new ArrayCollection(arr);
createChart();

I don't think Wayne is kidding at all.
You stated earlier: "But it is clear that Numbers resembles Excel."
In the very general sense (both are spreadsheet applications), that's true. But it is also clear that a Smart car resembles a Peterbilt tractor unit. Both have two axles, limited passenger seating and engines that require Diesel fuel. I wouldn't use either to do what the other is intended to do, nor would I expect each to behave exactly like the other.
You describe what you want to do as "something simple." It may well be "simple" (it certainly looks simple, and requires simple actions on the part of the user—in either application), but unless you have programmed that function, you have nothing on which to base the assumption that it is "simple."
Your original question was: "What is the equivalent in numbers?"
In the "simplest" terms possible: There is no equivalent in Numbers.
Wayne has described for you how to accomplish a similar result. You have explored and found way to make the result closer to the result in Excel.
He has also given you the information on steps to take to suggest to Apple (rather that to the users in this community) that the method of achieving this result be improved.
That's about as far as it can go in this forum.

Barry

• Plotting multiple graphs on one waveform chart with dynamic data types

I'm trying to put multiple graphs on one waveform chart and having data agreement errors. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that dynamic data is being used (I've had no problems with other datatypes in the past). Does anyone know how to correct this problem? I've attached the following .VI. There will be plenty of .VIs on the bottom that won't load, but they are not consequential for this problem.
Thanks!

you could use stacked plots by right clicking on the chart and clicking on the stacked plots and than on the front panek you can put a bundle function on the FP and hook your signals up

• How to display dynamic datas and double datas (chart)

Hi all !
I would like to display dynamic datas and double datas by using charts.
However, it doesn't work and I don't understand why.
Can you help me to fix that ?
Best regards,
- John

Hi John,
the sine looks like it should look with your VI!
You convert the DDT to a scalar DBL. That conversion will only use the first sample of the generated sine waveform - usually this is always the same (offset) value when you generate full periods… Or to put it in a mathematical expression: sin(0°)+4 = 4!
When you want to display waveform you should work with waveforms!
Actually, I have used Dynamic data type in order to simulate an signal.
Well, I also simulated a signal in my example VI. I didn't use any ExpressVI to do so…
In a few weeks, I will receive a sensor. I will use in LabView 'DAQ Assistant' whose the ouput is a Dynamic Data.
Nobody forces you to use the DAQAssistent ExpressVI. There are nice DAQmx functions available and LabVIEW comes with a lot of ready-to-use example VIs…
That's why, I used in first place, the 'Simulate signal'. So I think I should keep Dynamic Data Type
I do think you don't need to use the DDT. I think it's better to understand what is going on in your VI. And I think the DDT will be no help for you…

• Data web bean (chart) using a dynamic view object

Please I want a quick help. I read all forums concerning this subject but I still couldn't do it.
- I create a view object which takes a proameter using the ? style parameter.
- I passed the parameter from an html page and execute the query
of the view as follows:
<%
String deptno = request.getParameter("deptno");
if(deptno != null) {
oracle.jbo.html.jsp.JSPApplicationRegistry.registerApplicationFromPropertyFile(session , "MyProject21_package3_Package3Module");
oracle.jbo.ViewObject v = oracle.jbo.html.jsp.JSPApplicationRegistry.getInstance()
.getAppModuleInstance("MyProject21_package3_Package3Module",request,session)
.findViewObject("View1");
v.setWhereClauseParam(0,deptno);
v.executeQuery();
%>
- And then I used the data web bean chart as follows:
<jsp:useBean class="oracle.jbo.html.databeans.ChartRenderer" id="ch" scope="request" >
<%
ch.setReleaseApplicationResources(false);
ch.initialize(application,session, request,response,out,"MyProject21_package3_Package3Module.View1");
ch.setCommonScriptName("/webapp/jsp/chart_common.jsp");
ch.getChart().setGraphType(ch.PIE);
ch.setSeriesLabelColumnName("DeptNo");
ch.setDisplayAttributes("CountEmplNo");
ch.getChart().setPieFeelerTextDisplay(0);
ch.getChart().setPieTilt(10);
ch.getChart().setPieRotate(0);
ch.getChart().setLegendDisplay(true);
ch.getChart().setLegendMarkerPosition(0);
ch.getChart().setTitleString("Title");
ch.getChart().setSubtitleString("Subtitle");
ch.getChart().setFootnoteString("Footnote");
ch.setImageWidth(400);
ch.setImageHeight(400);
ch.render();
%>
- I tried to use the View1 as a view name, and the v as a view name
but both of them get the same result
SQL Statement error and the sql statement is displayed with the ? in it which means that he didn't replace it by the parameter.
Please I need quick help.

• Dynamic data in chart with a click on a column

Hi,
I have a tabular report with few columns in it.I also have a chat at the bottom of the table.
The table and the chart has the same data.
Is there anyway that I click on the specific column in the table and that data appears on the chart?
For Ex: If the table have columns like A B C D E F
If I click on "C" column can I get C's data in the chart. Is it possible?

hi Deepravs,
you can do that using Report Part Linking from the cross-tab / table and drilling into a group level below.
publish the attached sample report to your businesobjects enterprise system and also read your online help on report part linking. this type of linking only works in the boe viewer (not in crystal reports designer) as it is report part linking.

• How to queue two waveforms in dynamic data

I am collecting two waveforms for voltage data via DAQ assistant. The output is dynamic data which I can view as two waveforms via a chart.
I am sending the retrived data to a queue for storage until a seperate loop can flush the queue and write the data to a measurement file via the Write to Measurement File vi.
When I retrive my measurement file only one of the two waveforms have been stored.
I have troubleshot the issue and have determined the correct data is going into the queue

I'd recommend posting some code. Are you passing in the two waveforms to the queue as an array of waveforms, or a cluster of waveforms? Without seeing the code, it is just a guess as to what is going on.

• How to show two different plots with current system time and date on waveform chart

I am using one waveform chart to display the more than one value continiously. The data are comming properly but i am not getting my system (pc) time and date on x axis. It is showing default date and time (i.e.01/01/1904 5:30:45). Please give me suggestions to display the real time and date on x axis of waveform chart.

How does your data look like? Do you graph waveform data types, dynamic data, or plain arrays/clustes? In the case of plain arrays, you need to set x0 to the absolute start time of your data, e.g. with a property node.
I you would attach your code (or an image) we could offer more specific advice. There are too many possibilities.

• Display Dynamic HTML beside Flash Chart in Chart Region

Hello,
I have a vertical 3D flash chart with some categories I,II,IV... on x-axix. I have to show a legend beside the chart dynamically depending on the categories displayed like (I - PC, II - TV, IV-Laptop....) First I tried to do this with static data. I modified, Region Source of Chart region to include the legend. I am successful to create a table & put some static html code. Now I want this to be dynamic.
I found that with shotcuts I can put dynamic HTML code. I created shortcut with PL/SQL & successfully displayed them in a 'HTML REGION WITH SHORTCUTS', but I want that in Chart Region, not as a separate region. Shortcut is not working in Chart region.
How can I achieve this? Is there a way to call a process or substitution string or some thing from Chart Region to display my legend dynamically beside the chart.
Experts any hint is appreciated.
Sowji.

Experts,
Can you please give any hint how this can be achieved? If I keep the dynamic legend as HTML with Shortcut region, the width & height are not matching with the chart region as it is dynamic. Also, I am unable to combine both 'chart' & 'html with shortcut' region to look like one region. So I am looking for options to insert the dynamic html in to chart region.

• Plot dynamic data with time stamp

Hi All
I would like to create a plot of dynamic data, (Voltage readings taken with an In 6008) versus time.
When the loop starts taking voltage data I would to plot the data versus elapsed time. Voltage versus time elapsed. I have read many examples and tried for many hours to get this to work.
Please help!
Mike

Hi Mike,
Are you using a Waveform Chart? A chart will continuously plot the data versus time as it is acquired. Try right clicking on the x-axis and selecting Properties>> Display Format. Here you can change the way time is displayed on the x-axis. You can also adjust the way the data is displayed by right clicking and going to Properties>>Appearance>>Update Mode.
I hope that helps! If not, can you indicate what specifically you have set up in your code and how the result is different from the plot you would prefer to create.
Thanks,

Summary
Symptom
During the lifetime of a database (any db not only SAP Business One) and due to insert\update\delete of data, the information in indexes is fragmented. Fragmentation exists when indexes have pages in which the logical ordering, based on the key value, does not match the physical ordering inside the data file. Heavily fragmented indexes can cause slow performance.

• How to implement moving (linear) averaging in a subVI with dynamic data?

I was wondering how to implement a moving or rolling linear averaging using a subVI on a set of dynamic data coming from the DAQ Assistant or a counter input channel that will be written using the Write to Measurement File VI? Below is an example of what I mean.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

You could use the MeanPtbyPt vi to give the running average. Assuming your code snippet is inside a loop, wire an =0? comparison of the iteration number to the initialize input to reset the value and put 25 (or whatever you want) as the sample length.

• Little help with complex XML data as data provider for chart and adg

Hi all,
I've been trying to think through a problem and Im hoping for
a little help. Here's the scenario:
I have complex nested XML data that is wrapped by subsequent
groupings for efficiency, but I need to determine if each inner
item belongs in the data collection for view in a data grid and
charts.
I've posted an example at the bottom.
So the goal here is to first be able to select a single
inspector and then chart out their reports. I can get the data to
filter from the XMLListCollection using a filter on the first layer
(ie the name of the inspector) but then can't get a filter to go
deeper into the structure in order to determine if the individual
item should be contained inside the collection. In other words, I
want to filter by inspector, then time and then tag name in order
to be able to use this data as the basis for individual series
inside my advanced data grid and column chart.
I've made it work with creating a new collection and then
looping through each time there is a change to the original
collection and updating the new collection, but that just feels so
bloated and inefficient. The user is going to have some buttons to
allow them to change their view. I'm wondering if there is a
cleaner way to approach this? I even tried chaining filter
functions together, but that didn't work cause the collection is
reset whenever the .refresh() is called.
If anyone has experience in efficiently dealing with complex
XML for charting purposes and tabular display purposes, I would
greatly appreciate your assistance. I know I can get this to work
with a bunch of overhead, but I'm seeking something elegant.
Thank you.

Hi,
Please use the code similar to below:
SELECT * FROM DO_NOT_LOAD INTO TABLE IT_DO_NOT_LOAD.
SORT IT_DO_NOT_LOAD by WBS_Key.
IF SOURCE_PACKAGE IS NOT INITIAL.
IT_SOURCE_PACKAGE[] = SOURCE_PACKAGE[].
LOOP AT IT_SOURCE_PACKAGE INTO WA_SOURCE_PACKAGE.
V_SYTABIX = SY-TABIX.
READ TABLE IT_DO_NOT_LOAD into WA_DO_NOT_LOAD
WITH KEY WBS_Key = WA_SOURCE_PACKAGE-WBS_Key
BINARY SEARCH.
IF SY-SUBRC = 0.
IF ( WA_DO_NOT_LOAD-WBS_EXT = 'A' or WA_DO_NOT_LOAD-WBS_EXT = 'B' )
DELETE IT_SOURCE_PACKAGE INDEX V_SYTABIX.
ENDIF.
ENDIF.
ENDLOOP.
SOURCE_PACKAGE[] = IT_SOURCE_PACKAGE[].
ENDIF.

• Dynamic series in flash chart & color specified for each series

Example of data:
Date     Series 1     Series 2     Series 3     Series 4     Series 5     Series 6     Series 7     Series 8
A     12     22     23     22     22     10     10     10
B     10     9     55     8     8     20     20     20
C     55     2     5     88     5     15     15     15
In excel, I can get a stacked horizontal bar chart with the numbers of different series stacked and it is easy to specify the color for each series (it works with Dephi aslo).
I use a PL/SQL to generate the dynamic series for the chart. And in my application, I need to show some serires with the same color (group of series, each has a specified color). One of the solution I am trying is to input a fixed color sequence and loop it many times in the custom color theme and then insert dummy series into the SQLS. But this could be a disaster while the number of group goes up.
Anyone has better idea on this? Or is this a limiation of apex?
Thanks.

As I tried, apex can support 300 series at most. Dynamic series here is not a good solution still.

• Displaying dynamic data on load

Hello,
Being a newb, I am trying to figure all this out. I am trying to figure out how to make my dynamic data display. I am close but it still is not working the way it needs to. As you can see in the code I am trying to create a dynamic radio group, to load data when the page loads, but as it is it loads one radio button with a lable of "[object Operation]" and it should be creating 6 radio buttons. You can also see where I have commented out a button, now, if I uncomment it and run the page, pressing the button will populate the radio controls. What I need to do is get it so that when the page loads the data will load without having to press a button. This is taken from examples on the web and modifying to fit my needs. TIA.
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical" width="554" height="400">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.controls.Alert;
import mx.rpc.events.FaultEvent;
import mx.rpc.Fault;
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
import mx.controls.RadioButton;
private function result(evt:ResultEvent):void {
productsRepeater.dataProvider = evt.result;
private function fault(evt:FaultEvent):void {
Alert.show(evt.fault.message);
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:RemoteObject id="mycfc" destination="ColdFusion" showBusyCursor="true" source="flexdemo.src.DemoCFC" result="result(event)" fault="fault(event)">
</mx:RemoteObject>
<!--  <mx:Button label="Button" click="mycfc.GetData()"/> -->
<mx:HRule/>
<mx:Repeater id="productsRepeater" dataProvider="{mycfc}">
<mx:RadioButton id="buttonsArray"
label="{productsRepeater.currentItem.affiliatetype}"
data="{productsRepeater.currentItem}"/>
</mx:Repeater>
</mx:Application>

You are getting close to having this correct - there just needs to be a few changes.
First, the reason that you are getting the [Operation operation] is that you have the dataProvider for the repeater bound to the RemoteObject. In this case, what you want to do is bind it to the data the RemoteObject returns. For this example, the first thing you need to do is create a variable that will serve as the dataProvider. For example, if you have an ArrayCollection (not sure what format your data will be in), our <mx:Script> block would change to be as follows:
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.controls.Alert;
import mx.rpc.events.FaultEvent;
import mx.rpc.Fault;
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
import mx.controls.RadioButton;
[Bindable]
public var returnedData:ArrayCollection;
private function result(evt:ResultEvent):void {
// This assumes that an array is being returned by the service
// You first tell Flex that this is an array and then use that to create a new ArrayCollection
returnedData = new ArrayCollection( evt.result as Array );
returnedData = evt.result;
private function fault(evt:FaultEvent):void {
Alert.show(evt.fault.message);
]]>
</mx:Script>
With that in place, you can now bind the repeater to the correct data.
<mx:Repeater id="productsRepeater" dataProvider="{ returnedData }">
Finally, if you want this to happen when the application loads, you need to listen for the creationComplete method of the application. When this event is dispatched, you want to tell your remote object to go and grab the data. Now your opening <mx:Application> tag will look like this:
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical" width="554" height="400" creationComplete="mycfc.getData()">
With those items in place, it should work.
