Plotting multiple graphs on one waveform chart with dynamic data types

I'm trying to put multiple graphs on one waveform chart and having data agreement errors. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that dynamic data is being used (I've had no problems with other datatypes in the past). Does anyone know how to correct this problem? I've attached the following .VI. There will be plenty of .VIs on the bottom that won't load, but they are not consequential for this problem.
Thanks!

you could use stacked plots by right clicking on the chart and clicking on the stacked plots and than on the front panek you can put a bundle function on the FP and hook your signals up

  • How to combine multiple signals to one waveform plot in labview

hi everyone, im using labview 2011 and i need to take four different signals and plot them individual in one waveform chart and THEN i need to combine all four signals and plot the resultant in the SAME waveform chart as the four original ones. i have the four signals plotted but can not for the life of me figure out the resultant one. any ideas? thanks!

The word "combine" can have many meanings. Do you want to sum them, average them, concatenate them, or something else...

  • Waveform chart with 2 Y axis

Hi, I have labview 8.5 and I would like to know if is possible to have one waveform chart with two Y axis, I have two signal from a force load cell and two signal from a LVDT, so I would like to graph in real time what is happening in the process having in one axis the forces and in the other axis distance, how can I do it?
The problem is the forces are lower than the distance, so if I graph all in one is going to be a big mess or can I just play with each scale of each plot and put everything in one Y axis?

    1) Right click on the Y-axis and choose "duplicate scale". This will give you another Y-Axis.
    2) Optionally right-click the new Y-axis and select "Swap sides" to move the new Y-axis to the other side of the graph.
    3) If not already visable right-click chart and choose Visalbe >>> Plot legend
    4) Right click on a plot and choose the Y-axis it should be associated with.

  • Plotting data with multiple y-axis using waveform chart

I am using LabVIEW 7.1 and am simply trying to split my data on one waveform chart using 2 Y axis.  One goes from 0-150 and the other from 800-1000.  I want them to graph on the same chart, and I have selected 'duplicate scale' when I right click on the chart, as instructed in the labview manual, but both of my data streams are still only connected to one of my axis.  I can't get it to recognize that one data stream should go on one axis and the other stream should go on the other axis.  Can someone help please?

Right-click in the plot legend one plot. In the context menu select y-axis and after the axis you want for this plot. The scale is changed directly.
There is an image of the context menu attached.
    I hope this helps

Can anyone please help me on how to plot the graph without adding zero for empty cells?

    Hi Bharathi,
The Excel Insert graph function takes in only 2d arrays as inputs. Since arrays can only have numeric values, any table with a null string is read as 0. Now to get a plot like you mentioned, you could read the table and replace blank Strings as NaN. NaN values in an array when plotted do not appear in the excel sheet. For reference I have attached a sample vi to help you understand.

  • How to display two waveforms in one waveform chart?

hellow!anyone can tell me how to display two waveform together in one waveform chart? thanks!

    Hello,
An easy way to tell how to make multi-plot charts and graphs is to hold your mouse over the chart/graph terminal on the block diagram and make sure Context Help (Help >> Show Context Help) is enabled. This screen will tell you how to connect the indicator for a multiple-plot display.
You might want to take a look at my attached screenshots of a working multi-plot chart.

  • How do I Change the plot waveform colour on a Dynamic Data type Graph?

I have multiple different plots on different graphs, and I want to set the colours of the different waveforms.
In order to display the waveforms on different graphs, I switched to Dynamic data type and then split the wire
according to how many channels I have.
I can set the graph background colour with a property node, and create cursors of different colours no problem
using the array of references that I have created, so there is nothing wrong with my array of references or the property node.
As soon as I try and wire a colour box into the Plot>Plot Colour control, I get error 1055 out of the property node.
I was wondering if it was an error between the keyboard and the chair, but now I am thinking it is someting more sinister.
The Error box pops up and can't be dismissed remaining the focus until I run TASKKILL on LabVIEW and terminate it.
Any ideas on how to achieve my goal would be appreciated.

  • Plotting multiple series on an SVG Chart

    Hi,
I am trying to plot multiple series on an SVG Chart. The moment I add a second series, I get the following error:
    "SVG Chart error: ORA-20001: line_chart error: ORA-20001: get_data error: ORA-20001: Parse error: ORA-0093".
The graph fails to plot multiple series even for the same queries. The query I use is something like the following:
select null "link", substr(name,7) "Label",value "Value"
    from <table>
    where
    <conditions>
    and name in (<sub-query>)
    order by name desc
I have previously used an SVG chart to plot multiple series and have never had such problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I tried deleting and recreating the chart - doesn't help.
    Thanks,
    Aswath

If you want to order the data do it via an in-line view:
    SELECT *
    FROM (
select null "link", substr(name,7) "Label",value "Value"
    from <table>
    where
    <conditions>
    and name in (<sub-query>)
    order by name desc
    )

  • How do you change the Number of Plots Shown property of a Waveform Chart at runtime?

Is there any possible way to change the Number of Plots Shown property
of a Waveform Chart at runtime?  Thy Dynamic Stackplots example is
    way to limited.....

There's a couple of ways to do this -
    1. Manage the data going into the chart to only be what you want displayed
    2. Use property nodes.  Specifically, the Plot.Visible node. (LV 7 example attached).

You need to check the update mode of your chart.
Strip Chart—Shows running data continuously scrolling from left to right across the chart with old data on the left and new data on the right. A strip chart is similar to a paper tape strip chart recorder. Strip Chart is the default update mode.
Scope Chart—Shows one item of data, such as a pulse or wave, scrolling partway across the chart from left to right. For each new value, the chart plots the value to the right of the last value. When the plot reaches the right border of the plotting area, LabVIEW erases the plot and begins plotting again from the left border. The retracing display of a scope chart is similar to an oscilloscope.
Sweep Chart—Works similarly to a scope chart except it shows the old data on the right and the new data on the left separated by a vertical line. LabVIEW does not erase the plot in a sweep chart when the plot reaches the right border of the plotting area. A sweep chart is similar to an EKG display.
    From the help menu:
The waveform chart maintains a history of data, or buffer, from previous updates. Right-click the chart and select Chart History Length from the shortcut menu to configure the buffer.  The default chart history length for a waveform chart is 1,024 data points. The frequency at which you send data to the chart determines how often the chart redraws.

  • The data type of the variant is not compatible with the data type wired to the type input.

    Hello all..
Iam curently struggling with the following:
On my main(top)_VI, I have a mix-signal graph which will output several or one signals depending on the user. I also have an inner subvi which has the analisys i want to give the the data before outputing it to the main(top) VI, which has the mix-signal graph control.
Now, I created a reference from the mix-signal graph and Iam imputing this reference into the subVI (which inside has a property node type_control_mix-signal graph in which Iam connecting the refnum from the top VI to view the output data). The data consists of an array of clusters of 2 arrays of doubles each.
-- let say I create the property node type control mix-signal graph and i choose value property; it lets me put the array of clusters of 2 arrays of doubles each without problems; Now the second I connect the refnum pointing to the mix-signal graph on the Main_VI it brakes the cables and only accepts one cluster of two arrays os doubles instead.
--if on the other hand I connect the refnum to the property node type_control_mix-signal graph before connecting the imput it doesnt complain until I run the VI where it gives the error 91.
I have also notices a (strict) parenthisis at the end of the property node sometimes. [what does this (strict) means?]
FInally if instead of creating the refnum from the Main_VI, I create either a xy graph or a mix-signal praph it lets me connect the an array of clusters of 2 arrays of doubles each without any problem. The refnum connection seems to be the problematic factor, but  by the same tolken I dont know any other means of sending that data from the inner to the outter VI.
I have the feeling Iam missing on one or more Labview fundamentals regarding refnums.
    Any help will be apreciated

You almost found it on your own. The refnum needs to be 'strict', that means that the data type of the graph is set (2D dbl), otherwise it will use the default data type. To do this you create the refnum directly from the graph after you have wired the correct data type to the terminal. In this case the refnum wire will break if you change the data type of the graph.
Independend of this issue, I suggest you not to use the value property on the graph but directly wire the data (e.g. the 2D double) to the SubVI. The property value is by far the slowest way to get data, and 2D arrays are really some amount of data.

  • How to use a queue with dynamic data

When using a collector I have found that it significantly slows down my loop times. I am using LabView7.1 on a Dell PC with Windows XP.  If I use a queue with dynamic data do you think that will require less of my processor and allow for faster loop speeds?
I have created a queue using dynamic data in one loop and I want to retrieve all available samples each iteration in a slower loop. If I use the flush queue I get a 1d array of dynamic data. What is the best way to convert the 1d array of dynamic data so that the array of dynamic data is consolidated back into a single dynamic data type? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Dennis,
You could for instance wire the array to an auto-indexed for loop. I attach an example. I assume you wish to concatenate the arrays a singel waveform.

  • How to add dynamic data type as one of the terminals of a Custom VI

    Hello,
Can anybody tell me if it's possible and how to add a dynamic data type as one of the terminals of a sub-VI? I would like to have a terminal that I can connect signal from DAQmx to my sub-VI.  Thanks.

Here is one of the coolest things about LV, and one of its major advantages over languages like VB - it has automatic memory management and it compiles whenever you make a change. This allows you to be very free in the way you handle data and change your code. In this case, you should note the small gray dot that appears when you wire the dynamic data into the Array of Waveforms input. This gray dot means that LV coerces the source data type (DDT, in this case) to the target data type (Array of waveforms). If it wouldn't match, you would get a broken wire, the VI couldn't run, and if you hover over the wire or press the broken run button you would get an exact description of the error. Cool, eh?
This can also be seen in other things. For example, you can change an array's data type or number of dimensions by simply doing it. This will automatically be reflected anywhere the array is called in the program, and if anything won't match, the VI will be broken. If you change the # of dimensions of an array, any array function which that array is wired to will adapt. This allows you to be very safe in the way you write code, because you have LV watching all that annoying stuff for you. You don't have to worry about misspelling a variable here (for the most part).
One important point about coercion - it does take processor power. This will usually only be evident in large arrays or loops, but it is an important point. Another thing is that coercing numeric types can cause you to lose data - coercing a DBL to a U16, for example, will cause you to lose all the fractional data.
To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here and here are a couple you can start with. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).

  • How to insert data in a column with uniqueidefier data type

    Guys,
I need insert data in a column with uniqueidefier data type, when i am trying to that getting error.
error message says: "Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier."
    I have data in table a col1,col2,col3,col4 - col3,col4 has datatype as varchar and i am updating table b columns col1,col2 with table a col3 and col4.
Please guide how to do it.

    Hi,
Not any String can be convert to uniqueidentifier.
    1. you have to make sure u use a value which is fir to be uniqueidentifier
    2. Use convert or cast in the insert query in order to convert the string into uniqueidentifier
insert X ... convert(uniqueidentifier, 'string which fit to be convert to uniqueidentifier')
Please post DDL+DML for more specific help
DDL = Data Definition Language. In our case that is, CREATE TABLE statements for your tables and other definitions that are needed to understand your tables structure and there for let us to test and reproduce the problem in our server. Without DDL no one
    can execute any query.
How to get DDL: Right click on the table in Object Explorer and select script table as CREATE. Post these create table scripts here.
DML = data manipulation language is a family of queries used for manipulating the data it self like: inserting, deleting and updating data. In our case we need some sample data in order to check the query and get result, so we need some indert query for
    sample data.
If you post a "create query" for the tables and "insert query" with some sample, then we could help you without Assuming/Guessing. There is a reason that DDL is generally asked for and expected when discussing query problems - it helps
to identify issues, clarify terminology and prevent incorrect assumptions.  Sample data also provides a common point of reference for the discussion. A script that can be used to illustrate or reproduce the issue you have, will encourage others to help.

  • JDBC insert with XMLTYPE data type

    Hi,
SOAP to JDBC scenario. Oracle 11G as a receiver.
Requirement is to  insert whole xml payload message in one of Oracle table fields as a xml string. Target oracle DB table column is defined with XMLTYPE data type, it has capacity to hold xml data more than 4GB. I am using graphical mapping with direct INSERT statement.
When I try to insert xml payload with smaller size transaction goes through. However when the xml payload size increases it is giving following error in JDBC receiver communication channel monitoring.
Could not execute statement for table/stored proc. "TABLE_NAME" (structure "StructName") due to java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01704: string literal too long
Here is insert statement as in communication channel monitoring. (Note: XML payload with bold characters is truncated)
    INSERT INTO  TABLE_NAME (REQ_ID, OUTAGE_OBJ, TIMESTAMP, PROCESSED_FLAG) VALUES (VAL1, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>............</>, TO_DATE(2010-11-15 10:21:52,YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS), N)
Any suggestions to handle this requirement?
    Thank you in advance.
    Anand More.

    Hi Anand,
The problem here is definitely the length of the SQL query. i.e "INSERT INTO ......... VALUES......."
This is what i got when i searched for this ORACLE error code:
    ORA-01704: string literal too long
Cause: The string literal is longer than 4000 characters.
Action: Use a string literal of at most 4000 characters. Longer values may only be entered using bind variables.
Please ask a ORACLE DB expert on how to handle this Also i am not sure how can we handle Bind Varibales in SAP PI.
    I hope this helps.
