Dynamic display in a jsp

Hi all,
My requirement is I need to display a calender on the jsp and when the user clicks on a date I need to display a set of radio buttons underneath the calender on the same page.
The date field on the calendar is an anchor tag. So what I need to do is take the value of which date is clicked and get the corresponding set of radio buttons( the set of radio buttons depends on the date)and display them on the same page.
I was not able to read the value of the anchor tag when the user clicks on it.
My code which displays the date to the customer is
<td bgcolor ="<%=todayColor%>" width="<%=boxSize%>" align="left" height="<%=boxSize%>" valign="top">
<a id ="sch" href=" " onclick="showDate(request.getParameter(dispDay))"><%=dispDay%></a><br>.
Can anyone please help me with how I can read the anchor tag and display the set of radio buttons on the same page.
Thanks in advance.
pavan

Thanks a lot that worked out.But still as I have my complete requirement is I need to display set of radio buttons when I click on this link.
Can this be possible by javascript.Can anyone give me an idea of how to do this. The actual scenario is like I get the a list of 30 dates and their corresponding radio buttons from a webservice. What I do is I read all the values from that webservice and convert them into text( actually I get the codes) and need to display that as a calendar to the user and when they click on a particular date { I copied a calender from the net and placed that code in my jsp to display the calender)
the set of radio buttons should be displayed underneath the calender.That is both the calender and the list of radio buttons should be on the same page.
Thanks in advance.
Pavan.

  • How to dynamically display images in JSPs

    This took a little while to figure out so I thought I'd share. After
              doing some research I was led to the following approach on how to load
              images from an Oracle database into a JSP:
              The "main" JSP:
              <HTML>
              <head>
              <title>Image Test</title>
              </head>
              <body>
              <center>
              hello
              <P>
              <img border=0 src="getImage.jsp?filename=2cents.GIF">
              <P>
              <img border=0 src="getImage.jsp?filename=dollar.gif">
              <P>
              world
              </body>
              </HTML>
              And this is the image getter:
              <% try {
              response.setContentType("image/gif");
              String filename = (String) request.getParameter("filename");
              java.sql.Connection conn =
              java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:weblogic:pool:orapool"); //
              connect to db
              java.sql.Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
              String sql = "select image from testimage where filename = '" +
              filename + "'";
              java.sql.ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(sql);
              if (rs.next()) {
              byte [] image = rs.getBytes(1);
              java.io.OutputStream os = response.getOutputStream();
              os.write(image);
              os.flush();
              os.close();
              conn.close();
              catch (Exception x) { System.out.println(x); }
              %>
              The thing to note is that there are no <%@ page import="..." %> or <%@
              page contentType="..." %> tags - just the single scriptlet. It
              seems that for every "<%@" the weblogic compiler sees it puts
              out.print("\r\n"); statements in the generated java source.(???) I
              don't know much about how browsers work but I think that once it sees
              flat ascii come at it it treats everything that follows as text/plain
              which is incorrect for the binary stream that's being sent. Another
              work around was to set out = null; but that's kind of ugly and might
              produce server errors. The real fix is to write a bean to handle images
              which I'll work on next (does anybody have any hints on how to do
              that?)
              -Erik.
              PS, thank you to the people that posted info in this group that helped
              me track down this problem. -

    Erik,
              No need to write a bean, just write a serverlet...
              you can use this function (however you might want to include some
              improved error handeling)
              Oh, FYI to prevent caching by the browser you might want to pass a parameter
              into the creation of the image like timeseconds or (in my case) variable
              text which
              was included into the image produced. (You need not even use the variable in
              the code, the server is not bright enough to tell)
              <IMG SRC=".....MyImageProducer?file=my.jpeg&timesecs=12345134">

              try {
              javax.servlet.ServletOutputStream myout = response.getOutputStream();
              byte b[] = new byte[1024];
              response.setContentType("image/jpeg");
              //File file = new File("./myserver/public_html", "testjlt.jpg");
              //FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(file);
              ByteArrayOutputStream fos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
              JPEGImageEncoder encoder = JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(fos);
              JPEGEncodeParam param = encoder.getDefaultJPEGEncodeParam(ib);
              param.setQuality(1.0f,false);
              encoder.setJPEGEncodeParam(param);
              encoder.encode(ib);
              b = fos.toByteArray();
              response.setContentLength(b.length);
              myout.write(b, 0, b.length);
              myout.flush();
              myout.close();
              } catch (Exception e) {
              System.out.println("MY httpJpegStreamWriter Exception\n is :"+
              e.toString());
              return(false);

  • JSP : Dynamic display

    Hi,
    I need to display 4 html tables which are constructed and populated with data from java. So i make 4 method calls and pass the out object to the methods, These methods populate the table with data and then display them using the out parameter. But even am makin the method calls sequentially all the tables are displayed on the screen only once the last method gets and displays its data. Is it possible to somehow tell the JSP to display my first table once it has the data, and then the next and so on.
    Some sort of dynamic display {Once u r ready display it rather than wait for all the data to come up}
    Thanks
    deepak

    Will any of these methods help setContentLength(int len)
    setBufferSize(int size) ,flushBuffer()
    Also watz the type argument in setContentLength - Is it here length of the string
    and setBufferSize - and here the number of bytes.
    Thanks

  • Reg dynamically displaying records from database into a jsp page

    I am working in a project which is using struts and hibernate.In a class I gave code for retrieving data from a table and I put it in a list.
    List retrieveList;
    public List getRetrieveList() {
    String SQL_QUERY ="from student s";
    Query query = session.createQuery(SQL_QUERY);
    retrieveList = query.list();
    return retrieveList;
    public void setRetrieveList(List retrieveList) {
    this.retrieveList = retrieveList;
    And this list value I want to be displayed in a jsp page.What I have given is :
    <jsp:useBean id="records" class="StudentImpl" scope="session" />
    <bean:define id="list" name="records" property="retrieveList" />
    <table align="center" bordercolor="black" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="10">
    <logic:iterate id="data" name="list" type="pojo.student" indexId="index">
    <tr>
    <td><html:multibox property="checked" value=""></html:multibox></td>
    <td><bean:write name="data" property="studentname" /></td>
    <td><bean:write name="data" property="age" /></td>
    </tr>
    </logic:iterate>
    </table>
    When I run my jsp page its showing an error
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: [Ljava.lang.Object; cannot be cast to pojo.Student
    can anyone resolve this problem?

  • How to dynamically display .flv files in website

    I'm using a JSP for my interface.?? In the webpage, I want to pass a java variable, which holds the url to the video that was retrieved from the database, to the flash player script to dynamically determine which video to play.?? The only difference in the two is that in the second, I use a java variable to set the flash Variables. The variable I use is <%= flashVars %>?? which is equal to: &MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=Halo_Skin_3&streamName=movies/Video2&autoPlay=false&autoRe wind=false
    When I view the resulting page source code after building and running the site, The source code is exactly the same for both of them yet one works and one doesn't.?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I've been searching google all day to figure this one out.  I'm not simply trying to play a video, I can already do that... I'm retrieving the location of the video from the database and trying to pass it as an argument to the player, no different than if I was dynamically displaying an image or some text. For some reason I'm not able to do this.

  • Display image on jsp page

    I have to display image on jsp page with some text output. This image is already saved at a location parallel to web-inf and is generated dynamically using a servlet. I have used img tag html to display the image. Other outputs are taking their values from database.
    First problem is that image will be taking time to display in comparision of other outouts from database. I have to refresh the page to get imageon my page.
    Second is that if I save image in a folder parallel to web-inf in my project then it will not be displaying the image.
    Can I use any jsp functionality to display image with other outputs from database. I have used "*include*". but it shows only that image and other outputs.

    Best way is to use a servlet for this.
    <img src="path/to/imageservlet?id=someidentifier">
    <!-- or -->
    <img src="path/to/imageservlet/someidentifier">In the servlet's doGet() just write code which gets an InputStream of the image (either directly generated, or just read from the local disk file system, if necessary with help of ServletContext#getRealPath(), or even from the DB by ResultSet#getBinaryStream()) and writes it to the OutputStream of the response. That's basically all. Don't forget to buffer the streams properly to speedup performance and to save memory.
    You can find here a basic example: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/04/imageservlet.html].

  • Display image in JSP Portlet

    I create a JSP portlet. But The portlet can't display image(gif file, jpg file). I have modified the provider.xml and the following line is added:
    <imageURL>URL_Path</imageURL>
    But, the image still cannot be displayed.
    How can I display image in JSP portlet?

    Leo Cheung,
    You could try the following :
    1. Add a virtual directory path Alias 'imgf' in the Apache configuration file httpd.conf to load the image file. Add the following line under the alias section :
    Alias /imgf/ "<your directory>\images/"
    2. Place your gif/jpg files (eg., work.gif) in the images directory.
    3. Use the IMG tag of HTML :
    <IMG src="/imgf/work.gif" border=0 width=80 height=80> in the JSP file at the location where you need to display the image.
    Hope this helps

  • Dynamically displaying a new region (row?) based on immediate user input

    Whew, figuring out a title was almost as hard as trying to explain what I want to do!
    Okay, a little background first.
    My app has 178 main data fields, spread across about 35 tables. The users want to be able to search any and all data fields. So, I wrote a PL/SQL package that for each master record, loops through all of the child tables and creates (more or less) an XML file for each master record (which I store in a CLOB field). When any data in any table is changed, a trigger fires to re-update that CLOB field as well. I then used Oracle Text to create an index on the CLOB field, and now the users can search across all of the available information for each master record and get a list of which records contained what they were looking for.
    So here's the first part of the problem. The app is a Mineral Occurence database for all mineral information world-wide. Say they enter "Brazil" as what they want to search for, they not only retreive all of the mineral sites in Brazil, but also all of the sites where one of the mining companies may be based in Brazil, or Brazil is one of the comments, etc. While this is the expected behaviour, it's still not quite what they expected (but they also don't want to get rid of this behaviour either).
    So, since the CLOB field is already formatted with XML-type tags, what I want to do is to have an Advanced Search page, where the user can specify the table name to search, or the field name, or both. What I'd like to do is at the end of each line, have a select list with an "AND" or "OR' box, and if that gets a value, then dynamically create another 'row' underneath the first row, with the same three 'boxes' (actually select lists), and continue on until the user has specified exactly what they want to search for.
    I would rather not have to create a whole bunch of regions or rows, and then determine at runtime whether or not to display them.
    So i would have (using underscores as the boxes/fields):
    Table to Search        Field to Search          And/Or
    ______________          _____________          _______Each of the above would be a select list.
    Anybody have ideas on how I can accomplish this? Any Javascript or AJAX-type solutions that a dummy like me can easily implement? I've seen something almost similar on Carl's example pages to Hide/Show a region(?), but understanding the underlying code and then modifying it for what I want to do is extremely complicated (for me) at best.
    Thanks.
    Bill Ferguson

    Well, after searching through the QBE results (even some of mine), the only thing that comes close is Earl's (http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=36337:14). Actually his layout is almost perfect and pretty identical to what I want/need. Vikas' example seems like what I've toyed with on some other pages in my app, using a simple UNION ALL with nulled fields in the select statement, which won't work for what I need, at least I can't seem to visualize how I could incorporate that same code logic.
    However, unlike Earl's, when/if the last column (which I'd have as the 'AND/OR' select list) is populated, I'd like to dynamically display another new row.
    Now I know I could do it by making the last column a 'Select List With Submit', but that would neccessitate my creating about 25 regions (to hopefully cover the max any of the users would ever need), and then conditionally display the region based on whether or not the previous 'AND/OR' condition field was populated. It would also require a whole slew of page refreshes, which is clunky.
    It seems like there should probably be a way with AJAX to accomplish something similar. I think I remember seeing something along these lines in the last year or so on here, but I can't find it.
    Something like a cross-breed of Earl's example page above mixed with Carl's example at http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:39:4740898821262791902::NO:RP:: which would automatically fire on the poplulation of the last select list is probably the best I can accomplish, unless somebody has some better ideas on how to do this. Using Carl's htmldb_remix code, I can avoid all the submits and the resulting page refreshes, but the code itself will take an old dummy like me a while to figure out.
    Thanks for the ideas though.

  • Junk characters like" "displayed in the jsp page please help.

    Hi,
    I am getting junk characters like displayed in the jsp page.
    In the JSP page i used javascript "& nbsp" for appending spaces to a string "CCR" to get "CCR " .
    Now the Resultant string "CCR " has three spaces appended to its right.
    This String is set in session in that JSP page.
    In the next JSP page i am getting that string from session.
    After getting the string the "substring" function is performed to get only the first 5 charcters of the string. Now the result is displayed as " CCR " with has last 2 characters as junk values insteed of displaying as "CCR ". Please help me in solving this issue.
    Please note that initially the sting "CCR" is got from the Oracle database in Solaris Machine.
    Regards,
    Vijay

    have you tried:
    strenuously inspecting the string that is coming from the db? do an actual loop over the string, character by character, dumping to System.out to make sure the characters are EXACT coming out of the db.
    note you have to append " " not just "& nbsp"
    post the code that is doing the output. the relevant bean code, the jsp, everything relevant - WITH COMMENTS discussing where things are happening.
    Also, is it "weird characters" in the browser only? have you done a view source on the actual html source that the browser is rendering (right click in IE and click view source). browsers can act odd if you don't feed then exactly what they want, and it looks like you're feeding it escaped characters that it is rendering as something else.

  • Dynamic display name of the sender

    I have requirement like below:
    After creating and executing any Agent/iBOt in OBIEE 11g, the Display Name of the Sender in the From address of email delivered to recipients is showing as "Administrator".
    The user who is authenticated and authorized into the OBIEE also created an agent, he is asking that email should show his name in the From Address when it is delivered to the recipients.
    I know why this is happening, I have provided the Display Name of Sender as "Administrator" while configuring the Agents at the Enterprise Manager Level.
    What I am currently looking is, if there is any alternate solution to Dynamically display the name of the user who creates the Agent in the From address of the email when it is delivered to the recipients.
    Thanks in advance

  • How can i render a dynamic html file in jsp page

    Hi everybody,
    i am trying to render a dynamic html file in jsp page with the result of querying a database.
    The response of the query is a xml document. And i have a stylesheet to transfer it to html.
    How can i render the html in a jsp file?

    I am using below code for HTML files
    private var appFile:String="index.html";
    if (StageWebView.isSupported)
                        currentState = "normal";
                        webView.stage = stage;
                        webView.viewPort = new Rectangle( 10, 130, (stage.stageWidth)-20, 750 );
                        var fPath:String = new File(new File("app:/assets/html/aboutus/"+ appFile).nativePath).url;
                        webView.loadURL(fPath);
                        addEventListener(ViewNavigatorEvent.REMOVING,onRemove);
                    else {
                        currentState = "unsupported";
                        lblSupport.text = "StageWebView feature not supported";

  • How to display PDF in JSP using Iframe

    Hi All,
    I am using Struts 2. I am building my file in ActionClass with seperate Method like getGeneratedPDF() in which, I am setting header of response and writing into PDF.
    This method will be called from JSP by this way
    s:property value="getGeneratedPDF()" />
    But It displayed Junk Characters , and this PDF is not static (already Generated). It is generated and build on Fly.
    I have 2 questions 1 -- How to display PDF in JSP in proper way without Junk Character in it?
    questions 2 -- How to display it in Iframe?
    Please help me , If you know the solution.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Jimmy

It is generated and build on Fly.A PDF file is a binary file, not a text file, and you're trying to display it as String. Of course you would get "junk characters". Have you ever tried opening a binary file (pdf, doc, jpg, xls, etc) using a text editor like Notepad?
    I have 2 questions 1 -- How to display PDF in JSP in proper way without Junk Character in it?Display it as binary stream, not as text stream. You can display it standalone, just let the link/form/addressbar URL point to some Servlet which writes the InputStream of the PDF file to the OutputStream of the response, along with a correct set of response headers (at least content-type, content-disposition and content-length), so that the browser can open it in the correct application (which is usually Acrobat Reader). If you want to embed the PDF file in a JSP, then one of the ways is indeed using the HTML <iframe> tag.
    questions 2 -- How to display it in Iframe? Just let the iframe URL point to the aforementioned Servlet.
    You can find here an example of a generic file servlet, you may find it useful to get the idea how to do it: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/07/fileservlet.html].

                   out.println(imgLen.length());Your JSP was supposed to write an image to the output and you wrote some irrelevant strings to the output before? This will corrupt the image. It's like opening the image in a text editor and adding some characters before to it.
                   byte [] rb = new byte[len];Memory hogging. Don't do that.
              out.println(ee);You should be throwing exceptions and at least printing its trace, not sending its toString() to the output.
