Dynamic form fields collection order?

I have a basic dynamic form feild with Instances that allow a user to enter data in a Table Row then, if neededed, ADD another row/instance to enter more.
The form worls well and is processed via Adobe.com Tracker.
Tracker and the exports to .csv of the data adds all the instances of new rows to the END of the spreadsheet and tracker form responses dispaly..  In other words it seems to process the entire form and all its fields in order, ignoring any new instances, THEN goes back and begins collecting the instances adding them to the end columns of the response spreadsheet.  Would be much easier to parse/read/collect responses if any new instances were collected and recorded next to the same location where the first instance occurred.
Hope that makes sense.  For example if I had:
FirstName
LastName
Date
field
field
field
field
dynamic field (with otpion to add additional items/entries)
field
field
field
filed
The data collection would appear as:
FirstName
LastName
Date
field
field
field
field
dynamic field (with otpion to add additional items/entries)
field
field
field
filed
dynamic field extra entry 1
dynamic field extra entry 2
dynamic field extra entry 3
But I would prefer is to appear as:
FirstName
LastName
Date
field
field
field
field
dynamic field (with otpion to add additional items/entries)
dynamic field extra entry 1
dynamic field extra entry 2
dynamic field extra entry 3
field
field
field
filed
... with the dynamic new isntances collected and recorded adjacent to each other.  Doesnt seem like much until you have a long form with multiple new instance form options and all new instances seem to be arbitrarily thrown onto end of collection spreadsheet.
Many thnaks!

  • Dynamic forms and collection.

    Hello,
    In one of your postings you’ve explained that the collections won't work with dynamic forms.  The collection will only "see" the first instance of the subform.  You've provide link to the sample, but it does not longer work  :
    http://my.adobe.acrobat.com/p52549088/.
    This sample shows how to manually encode data into barcode from a subform that repeats. Can you please provide a working link or sample? Is there any other suggestion on how to link barcodes on dynamic forms?
    Regards,

    Hello Dave,
    I can't say I've seen issue 1 before and would recommend contacting support.
    For item 2 I would suggest wrapping your 'line' of text in a subform then creating a script to use the setInstance method for that subform.
    Let's say you had a subform named "TextLine" (which contained a text field), a numeric field called "NumberOfLines" and a button called "SetLines". You would likely want to have javascript code on the SetLines button click event much like:
    TextLine.instanceManager.setInstances(NumberOfLines,rawValue);
    You will want to save this form as a Dynamic PDF before previewing and you will want to ensure that TextLine allows for more than one occurence (found under Object - Binding, Allow Subform to Repeat when you have that subform selected).
    You may also want to put in some validation against the NumberOfLines field to ensure it has a value.
    I hope that helps.

  • Please help with dynamic form field names in cfloop

    Hi,
    I need to create a form with day, date, month, year and time for 12 months
    Instead of coding them 12 times, I create day,date,month,year and time fileds in my form 1 time and then I use cfloop from="1" to="12" index="i" to loop these form fields 12 times.
    I gave each form field name such as: <input type="text" name="ScheduleDate_# i #" value=" "> this way each of those field will be named differently such as:
    ScheduleDate_1, ScheduleDate_2,ScheduleDate_3, ScheduleTime_1,ScheduleTime_2, etc
    I'm facing problem when this form is submitted, I think the error has something to do with the pound sign (##) when it comes to updating the back end
    I use MS SQL
    It doesn like this:
    <CFLOOP From="1" To="12" index="k">
    <CFIF Len(Trim(Form.MeetYear_#k#)) NEQ 0 AND Len(Trim(Form.MeetTime_#k#)) NEQ 0>
    <cfquery name="CreateSchedule" datasource="#DSN#">
    UPDATE TableSchedule
    SET SchedDay = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_varchar" value="#form.SchedDay_#k##">,SchedMonth =
    <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_varchar" value="#form.SchedMonth_#k##">,SchedDate =
    <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_varchar" value="#form.SchedDate_#k##">,SchedYear =
    <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_varchar" value="#form.SchedYear_#k##">,SchedTime =
    <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_varchar" value="#form.SchedTime_#k##">
    Where SchedId = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_numeric" value="#k#">
    </cfquery>
    </CFIF>
    </CFLOOP>
    Can anyone help please?

    You can't nest hash marks. Do this instead:
    SET SchedDay = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_varchar" value="#form["SchedDay_" & k]#">

  • How to make dynamic form fields update?

    This is going to be an ugly post, fair warning! :)
    I have a form that gets it's labels and text input field
    names dynamically from a database. Rather than having the form
    hardcoded, we are able to add new columns to a table and the form
    automatically adds new labels and fields via CFQUERY.
    When the form is completed and they submit (method post), the
    database is supposed to update. However, because our input field
    names are being populated via query, we can't write a static update
    query when we add new form items.
    So, I do have a solution to this (in my head), but I'm stuck
    at a bit of logic and am having trouble getting it out in code. I'm
    looking for a way to write #FORM.#fieldname## (here is where it
    gets ugly). Since the form submits by post method, I am left with a
    bunch of FORM.fieldname's on my action page (and fieldname is
    generic for what the actual variables are).
    So here's how I am updating:
    I have a table (call it table1) that contains a column of all
    the column names of my data table (table2). This table is used for
    query purposes only, no data is updated here from the form.
    I query table1 to call all the names of the columns in
    table2.
    <cquery datasource="exdb" name="exname">
    SELECT columnName
    FROM table1
    </cfquery>
    Then I write the update query which will update items as they
    are looped using CFOUTPUT:
    <CFOUTPUT QUERY="exname">
    <cfquery datasource="exdb" name="exupdate">
    UPDATE table2
    SET #columnName# = #FORM.<columnName>#
    WHERE itemID = #FORM.itemID#
    This is my dilemma. As you can see, the cfoutput is a loop..
    so let's take the first item in the loop, call it "name1". So our
    update query says SET name1 = #FORM.name1#, and this will update
    the table with whatever was submitted in name1's input field. The
    cfoutput loops again, this time it's name2. SET name2 =
    #FORM.name2#. Now the form does include a hidden input of itemID to
    specify where the table should be updating, as you can see above.
    So, now that you see how this works, my problem is getting
    #FORM.<columnName># to be FORM.name1, FORM.name2, etc.
    In Coldfusion you would write #FORM.variable# to call a FORM
    item. However, since the variable is pretty much undefined and we
    use a query to populate it, we need to do #FORM.#variable## where
    #variable# needs to be resolved before #FORM._______#
    Are you with me on this? It's very complex in explanation,
    but if you need more info, I can provide it more clearly. Let me
    know what you guys think. Really, I have the solution, but getting
    #FORM.#columnName## to resolve is another problem. I think what i
    need is to figure out the order of operation for that statement, so
    #columnName# resolves first.

    You'll want to use the scope structure notation when dealing
    with your form variables. The variable Form.SomeVar can also be
    written as Form["SomeVar"]. Using this syntax, you can do something
    like this:
    UPDATE table2
    SET #columnName# = #FORM[columnName]#
    WHERE itemID = #FORM.itemID#
    You may also want to look into the following to help optimize
    your code:
    1) check out how to use <cfqueryparam> - it might speed
    your code up a bit.
    2) depending on the DB you are using, you may be able to
    combine all of your UPDATE SQL commands inside 1 <cfquery>
    </cfquery> block. This will allow you to do all your database
    actions with 1 DB connection, instead of a bunch (works in MSSQL,
    not sure about Oracle or MySQL)

  • How to extract a value from a dynamic form field

    Hello everybody!
    I created a field by the following command:
    htp.p(HTMLDB_ITEM.TEXT(1,'',20,30,'','VAL4','VAL5'));
    Then I created submit button.
    Question: In what way I can address to that value after I submit my page? Does anybody know?

    you'd be able to reference that value while your page is being submitted by pointing to the associated value captured in an array with something like...
    htmldb_application.g_f01(1)
    ...so you could do an...
    insert into my_table (my_col) values (htmldb_application.g_f01(1));
    ...to trap that value. but having said that, i don't know if you want to go that route. if you render an element using the htmldb_item api, that element's value won't be stored into session state. you can only get to it when you page is being processed/submitted (in an html db process, computation, or validation). if you really only just want one text field to display on your page, i'd strongly suggest just adding an html db Item of type "Text Field" to your page. that way you can refer to the value stored to that item from anywhere in your app. anyhow, you might already know that. getting back to your question, though, the htmldb_item items are stored to pl/sql varchar arrays when submitted to the html db engine. i explained that briefly in...
    Validations in Updatable Report
    ...(except i was calling the two api's wwv_flow_item and wwv_flow), and it's explained in better detail in our tabular form how-to document at http://otn.oracle.com/products/database/htmldb/howtos/tabular_form.html please do take a look and let us know if you need further assistance.

  • Dynamic Form field name

    I have a shopping cart that creates a dynamic field for the
    quantity of each product in the cart. I need to be able to make
    sure the user does not submit a blank value. I can not use cfinput
    as per client instructions. The field is:
    <input name="Quant_#GetCart.ShowID#" type="Text"
    value="#GetCart.Quantity#" size="1" maxlength="2"
    title="Quantity"/>
    How would you go about validating Quant_#GetCart.ShowID#?
    Thanks in advance for the help/suggestions.

    LeftCorner,
    Thanks for the compliments, and for analyzing my code. It's
    cool to see you care. I agree that the find() should have been
    findNoCase(), and the inclusion of a trim() could be a good one,
    however, the evaluating is not better. In general, Evaluate() is
    becoming less used, and is being certainly phased out where it's
    not extremely necessary. There are a few arguments as to why,
    performance being one of them, readability being another. I stand
    by my code and I recommend you check out structure notation
    (structure[key] when you would normally write structure.key except
    you don't know what "key" really is) wherever possible.

  • Creating dynamic form fields

    I am trying to create a form with an input box, but also want to be able to have a link below it to be able to add another input box on demand. Does anyone know where i can find an example of this, i searched on google but wasn't able to find anything that good.

    I tried the following code in a .cfm page and everytime i run it i just get the following error:
    Server Error
    The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request.
    Application server is busy.  Either there are too many concurrent requests or the server still is starting up.
    But any other page that run works fine, this is the only that gives me this error.

  • Extracting data from dynamic forms

    I am new to using Livecycle and see the advantages of using dynamic forms for collecting data. I have designed several dynamic forms which include rows with 6 to 9 text fields and may be completed with 10 to 100 rows. I  have had to use text fields for collecting numeric information as many of the references start with zeros (003456).
    Whilst Acrobat Pro provides for Livecycle dynamic forms to be enabled for Acrobat Reader filling and saving is extracting to Excel the best option available if you do not have the Enerprise version of Livecycle?
    One problem I have in using Excel is that whilst the completed  PDF documents capture the leading zeros, when I view the Excel spreadsheet the lead zeros have been lost. I have experienced this problem in importing Excel files into Access. To overcome this I usually create five lead rows with characters in all the fields that I want Excel to define as text - otherwise it processes them as numerics.
    Any better ways of extracting data from a hundred or so dynamic forms?

    Hi,
    your problem is not the exported data, it's Excel that drops the leading zeros by default.
    You can use a custom pattern to keep the leading zeros.
    0#### will display intergers with up to 5 places with a leading zero.

  • Trying to dynamically output form fields returns URL values

    Hello,
    If there is a better way to go about this (which is quite likely), please let me know how to go about it.
    I'm working on some code that is supposed to dynamically set the form variables as regular variables so that we can be lazy and not have to refer to the variable with form.somevariable name.
    That part works perfectly.  Until I start testing for URL conflicts in which a URL variable has the same name.  For instance. . .
    I have a form that passes two variables; FirstName and LastName.  If I hit the page, the form shows up, I input a first and last name and click submit.  The code works perfectly.
    However, if I have URL variables with the same names, the code reports the url variable values instead of the form values.
    Some sample values;
    url.FirstName = Joe
    url.LastName = Black
    form.FirstName = Steve
    form.LastName = White
    My code that exposes the form variable will correctly find the form field names, but then when I 'evaluate' the value of the given form field, it will return the value of the URL variable of the same name rather than the form variable.
    What I am really wanting (as I described briefly up above) is to have code that automatically converts client, URL and Form variables into 'regular variables' so that you don't have to write lots of extra code grabbing them later on.  Frameworks like CFWHEELS and ColdBox do this by default, but at the company I work out, we aren't using any of them.  I need it to expose the URL variables, but give presidence to form variables if they have the same name, because they are likely to be intended to do an update or such.
    The code follows  Feel free to ignore the code for the URL and client variables if you wish as they don't directly affect how the form code works, I have tested with them commented out and I get the same result.  I provided all of it to give a more complete idea of what I have been toying with so far.  Please note that I don't normally use 'evaluate'.  There is probably a better way to go, but I don't know what it is.

              </cfloop>
    </cfloop>
    <cfdump var="#VARIABLES#" abort="1" label="Combined Variables Scope" />
    What I did is insert 3 key/value pairs into the FORM and URL scope.  I then dumped the scopes to show their structure and values.  Then I defined a variable (scopes) which is a list of the least important scope to the most important.  After that, the loop I do simply goes through the SCOPES, their exisiting key/values and sets them into the VARIABLES scope.  Then, when it moves to the next scope of importance, it simply puts their value into the variables scope as well (overriding in the event it already exists), thus, the scopes defined later in the list override and replace.
    Then I just dump the VARIABLES scope (you'll notice it has the I, J and SCOPES variables in there that I used to create the loop.  If you perform this action in a function, simple make the I, J and SCOPES variables part of the LOCAL scope so they won't be in your VARIABLES scope.

  • Setting tab order to form fields contained within a table, Indesign CS6

    I have created a form in ID CS6, and have put all the tabs in order so that people can easily navigate it when filling it in. However, all of the form fields that are contained within tables are not in order, and I can't find any way of putting them in order without changing them in acrobat after I have made the interactive PDF. This means that every time my client makes changes to the form I have to manually put all the fields in order again, which is time consuming. Is anyone able to help?

    This tab order dialogue box is nearly useless if you have a complex form with hundreds of form fields as there is no way to interact with the document when the dialogue is open and clicking on an entry in the list does not highlight the respective field. Furthermore, if you have arrays of radio buttons, or check boxes acting like radio buttons, ie all with the same form field name, there's no way to know which order they should be arranged in since they can't be selected or identified while this dialogue is open!
    That is immensely frustrating to say the least.
    It's quite ridiculous that Adobe hasn't fixed this bug in years and this user interface is shockingly bad.

    I created a form and it works fine but when I get the email
    back the fields are out of the tab order or out of wack meaning
    they are not in order that I set the acceptabilities to.
    Is this something in the Action script I have to add and what
    would it look like or do I need to edit the CGI script?
    I can provide a link or script let me know.
    Thanks

    This is action script 3.0 Flash CS3
    Below is what I receive back after I test it but it is not in
    order. I guess I assumed that if the tab order is correct and the
    are layout in that order and the code in the form is in order it
    would come back the same way. Mostly I am trying to narrow down the
    problem and my guess is the cgi script or am I wrong? I have
    attached the code for the form.

    With a PDF Dynamic form using show/hide actions, how to ensure that when the completed form is saved, closed and re-opened, the form still show the fields as before it was closed?
    I have developed a form with fields hidden by default, that become visible based on box ticked or radio button selections.
    My problem is that, when I close the form and re-open it, it comes back to it's default presentation, regardless of the information already recorded in the form (including in the now hidden fields.
    How to correct that
    Thanks in advance for any hint you can provide.

    I've had the same problem. This solved it...
    Go to the "Form properties..." in the File-menu. Select "Run-time" to the left and in the box "Scripting" Preserve scripting changes to form when saved: choose Automatically (Script-based state changes are saved locally in an insecure fashion. This option cannot be used for certified forms).
    Hope it works for you to...

  • Is it possible to dynamically create form fields in PDF form?

    Hi all,
    I would like to dynamically create object like textbox, dropdown list from xml data. For example:
    When I receive following xml data:
    <field name="Check Box" type="selectbox"/>
    <field name="Text Field" type="textbox"/>
    I want to generate 2 form fields check box and text field with title "Check Box" and "Text Field" accordingly.
    Is it possible to do it in javascript for PDF form?
    Thank you and regards,
    Anh

    You cannot dynamically create objects on the fly like that but you can create interpret the XML and create an XDP file (which is the language of the template file) then bring that into Designer and create a PDF from that.

  • Validation of multiple empty fields in dynamic form

    Hi,
    I have created multiple fields dynamic form consisting of both mandatory & optional fields. Since the mandatory fields are validated by default, I want to validate the optional fields while submitting as PDF document dynamically and prompt me to continue or discard the submission. Also validating each & every field is not valid option as my form contains more than 200 fields.
    I have tried with the below script which I successfully used to lock the form but in validating the empty fields I have a problem. Although I populate all the fields in the form, still I receive the validation message. Can anybody help me out on this issue?

    Thanks,

    I discovered how to accomplish this using the Manage Dynamic Form Wizard and changed the "Display as" field property from "Text field" to "Text" for the fields I wanted read only.
    Now I have another problem, the properties of one of the fields (for comments) was "Text area" when I changed it to "Text" I now have this extremely long line that streches the width of the browser.
    Is there a way to get this line to wrap? This is he line I'm working with...
    <td class="form_results"><?php echo KT_escapeAttribute($row_rssubmissions['sub_comments']); ?></td>

    I found the answer to this problem, Günter had answered it in another post.

  • TAB ORDER OF FORM FIELDS HEEEELLLP PLEASE

    I have a nice form set up in flash. I can enter text in the
    fields, but as I tab from the first field to the next, I end up on
    text in another area of the page before tabbing again to land on
    another field, then when I tab again, I get the next field, tab
    again and leave the form to find text elsewhere, then tab again to
    come back to the form. The order of fields I would like to have is
    name, company, email, phone, message. What I'm getting is name, off
    the form, off the form, company, email, message, phone. Please tell
    me what I'm not doing so the tabs go from one field seamlessly to
    the next. THANK YOU.

    Here is a link to Google Groups for Flash searching for "tab
    index". Many pages of info on tab indexing.

    Here is a bit of code used for a feedback submit form that
    sets the tab order for all the text boxes and a submit button..
    form.emailBox.tabIndex = 1;
    form.nameBox.tabIndex = 2
    form.addressBox.tabIndex = 3;
    form.cityBox.tabIndex = 4
    form.stateBox.tabIndex = 5;
    form.zipBox.tabIndex = 6;
    form.phoneBox.tabIndex = 7;
    form.messageBox.tabIndex = 8;
    submit_btn.tabIndex = 9;
