Dynamic Parameter Batch Size in InfoView

How do I increase the size of the batches used during prompting for a dynamic parameter?  I am wanting to increase the batch size to a number that will actually allow me to get rid of the "batch" functionality on dynamic parameters.  I am using Crystal Report Server 2008.  I was able to increase the batch size in the Crystal Reports developer environment by editing the registry.  However, I cannot figure out how to increase the batch size of the parameters in the CMC or InfoView environments.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Ashley

THanks for the response John.  I tried changing those values and it did not work.  However, I was able to find this thread:
[Crystal 2008 - Dynamic Paratemeter records|Crystal 2008 - Dynamic Paratemeter records]
Making the following change suggested increased the batch size of the prompts:
You can create or change a parameter in the Tomcat configuration file to set the batch size for long LOVs. Open the following file:
/Tomcat/webapps/CrystalReports/WEB-INF/web.xml
If it does not already exist, create this parameter:
<context-param>
<param-name>crystal_max_number_list_of_values</param-name>
<param-value></param-value>+
</context-param>
+Where in the above example is the number of items in the batch.
Thanks again for the help John.  Looking in the registry at the areas you suggested allowed me to find other values I wanted to adjust as well.

How do i increase the batch size number from 5 to whatever ? or at least the least number of elements in each batch ?

Not enough info. Remember we are seeing this for the first time and have no idea what you are trying to accomplish or what version of even what product your are using. We can't assume you are using CR, some people just post wherever.

  • Dynamic parameter selection from infoview not storing the sql password

We are having the problem of dynamic parameter selection from infoview not storing the sql password as it does for the actual report. We are using Crystal Reports XI Release 2 version 11.5.3.438 (Not sure of SP level, asked in separate thread).
    To be more specific.
We have created a report that dynamically populates the parameters of the report by pulling the records from the Informix sql database and allowing selection from there.
In the Central Management Console for the report object we have set as follows:
    Process - Database:
Use original database logon information from the report - the sql username and pw etc
Use same database logon as when report is run
    Process - Parameters
In selecting a default selection there is the option to put in the sql password, however, this does not stick and clears after update.
As such the end result is that every time this report is run from infoview and a user chooses a parameter (there are 5), crystal goes through some timeout for about a minute or so and then requests the sql password, if a user then selects the next parameter, the same timeout and password dialog appears.
We need the crystal report to handle to the sql password for fetching the parameters as well as for the database section of running the report, however, the parameters insists on the end user always putting the password in.
This is 100% replicatable on our system.
Any way that we can fix this?
Will an update fix this issue? If so could you please advise which one?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I am having the exact same problem. Any help?
And what does "Use same database logon as when report is run" mean? For me that would be that no prompt is needed for getting values in a dynamic parameter...

  • Crystal Reports dynamic parameter does not work in InfoView

    Hello,
We have developed Crystal Reports in CR2008 on top of SAP infoset and we have one of our selection parameter as dynamic parameter. It works fine in the CR Dev tool but when i upload the report in the InfoView, report does not show any value in the "Available Values"
Any input will be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I did found the solution for this, i had to go into Business View Manger (BO Client Tools) and Schedule the LOV (List of Values). This is odd setting! but it works....

  • Infoview prompts for database logon screen when updating dynamic parameter

I have already set up initial database ID/PW for the report in CMS, but when I I tried to update my parameter to schedule the report, it is requiring the user to enter database ID/PW again........Is there a way to set this up so that the user can bypass this step since it is quite annoying?
    Thanks.

Is your lov created Business View Manager? If it is, you can store the userid and password in the data connection your business view is based on.
    1) Start Business View Manager. Close the default screen that appears.
    2) Click View > Repository Explorer on the menu bar.
    3) Expand the Dynamic Cascading Prompts folder. Locate the "Data Connection" for the appropriate dynamic parameter. It will be in the form of <parameter_name>_DC (i.e. it will have the name of the parameter and then '_DC').
    4) Double-click the Data Connection. "Property Browser" will appear.
    5) Type the database user name and password in that Property Browser.
    6) Set the Runtime Prompt to Never Prompt.
    7) Save the changes to the Data Connection.
The prompt for database logon information will no longer appear when changing parameter values.

  • Dynamic Parameter Record Limit

I am using Crystal 2008 with universes as a data source with BOE XI 3.0 (Edge) Infoview and need to create parameter fields that return greater than 1,000 records.  I have seen suggestions about modifying the local workstation registry, and also found a reference to an earlier version of BOE (SAP Note 1199759) about modifying the LOV batch size for custom sorting.  The latter refers to a Web Intelligence setting, so I'm not sure if it affects parameters in Crystal Reports.
Which is the correct method to resolve this issue my versions of Crystal and BOE?

    Hi
we need to make changes for CR so that it fetches more than 1000 records.
Please refer to 1218588 - How to increase the number of values in a dynamic parameter list and make the necessary registry changes.
    Hope this helps!!

  • CR2011 Dynamic Parameter does not show list at all

I am upgrading some Crystal Reports from CR 8.5 to 2011.  Some would be better served by using a dynamic parameter to allow the user to select the data for the parameter from the database information.  I have created a dynamic parameter on the Customer ID and set the description to be the customer name.  I have set it to handle multiple values.
When I preview the report in the Crystal designer, I get a text box to type in but not a drop down.  To be clear, I am not talking about the LOV 1000 limit here.  There are only 50 customers in the sample file I am working with.  I tried turning the static parameter into a dynamic one, I deleted the original parameter and created a new one.
In case it matters, the parameter is only used as part of the selection formula and if I enter a proper customer id, it will retrieve the data.  This report has about 7 tables (no stored procedures or views) and a subreport of two tables that is linked to the main report on the customer id.  The parameter is only used on the main report for record selection.  The SQL statement in the main report and subreport did need to be reset when I first opened the report in CR2011 but I did that on both.  I have verified the database and the option to verify on first refresh is checked.  The original parameter did have an imported list of about 3000 customer names.  I tried exporting the CR template to a new file and while the file size changed, the behaviour did not.
When I create a brand new report on two of the tables, including the same customer table, and create the parameter the same way, it shows me the list properly in a dropdown at the prompt stage.
I am not sure where to go here or what else to try.  If anyone has any suggestions, I appreciate the help. TIA, rasinc

    Thank for the reply Dell,
I see the logic in adding the extra table and keeping it unlinked and I do know the crazy data that can come up if I use it linked to other tables or use the fields in other parts of the programming.
However, I've now tried it several times, creating the parameter on just the name alone, with the ID alone, etc. and I still only get a text box to type into.
I have made sure the original selection criteria
    {customer.Id} = {?Customer}
if from the original table, not the new one, which I assume you expected me to do.
So I decided to run the same report through CR XIR2.  When I update the Set Datasource Location, I am now getting the message
    "Invalid Argument provided.
Details: The alias requested 'company', contains a combination of characters which is not considered to be valid"
Company is a table containing information about the main company, not the customers.  The same message pops up for another table as well.
Then I get a message that says:
"Prompting failed with the following error message: 'List of Values failure: fail to get values. [Cause of error: The table company does not exist in the document.]'
Error source: prompt.dll Error code: 0x8004380D"
This appears to be a database access issue but I know the firewalls are not a problem because I can create a new report and get the LOV properly with the same database and same desktop computer.  I can take that report created in CR2011 and use it in CRXI also and get the proper LOV.  Is it possible I am dealing with template corruption because there were so many items imported into the static list before?

Using the drop-down list beside select u201CIs Equal Tou201D and using the drop-down list, select your parameter field (it should be the first field). 8. Click OK to return to your report design and see the parameter dialog. The parameter dialog will appear and show you a dynamic list of values that is updated each time your run your report. It couldnu2019t be easier! In our next tutorial, we will be looking at how to use this feature to create cascading parameter fields, where the values are filtered by the preceding selection.
    Dynamic Parameters in Action
My question is that whether dynamic parameter is working with storedprocedure or not.
When i added one table and try to fetch records using dyanmic prameters. after that i am not be able to find the dynamic parameter option when i referesh my report.
One more thing when i try the static parameter for my report, the option i see when i referesh the screen.
Please reply soon , it's urgent

    Hi Kishore,
I have tested the issue step by step by following you description, while the first issue works well in my local environment. Based on my research, this can be caused by the lookup expression or it indeed return Male value based on the logic. If you use the
expression below, it will indeed only return the Male record. So please try to double-check the record in the two datasets and the expression in your environment:
    =lookup(first(Fields!ProgramID.Value,"DataSet1"),Fields!ProgramID.Value,Fields!Gender.Value,"DataSet2")
As to the second issue, please try to use the following expression:
    =Count(Lookup(fields!ProgramID.value,fields!ProgramID.value,fields!Gender.value,"DataSet2"))
Besides, if this issue still exist, in order to trouble shoot this issue more efficiently, could you please post both the .rdl  file with all the size properties to us by the following E-mail address?  It is benefit for us to do further analysis.

  • Dynamic Parameter Prompting for Database Connection Password When schedulin

I'm having problems with Dynamic Parameters when I try to schedule a report in InfoView.
I create the report in Crystal Reports XI and publish it to the Crystal Server. I go into CMC and under Process:Database set the correct data source and enter the server, database, user and password.
When the report is run I can choose a dynamic parameter and the reports runs fine - it's when I try to schedule the report and choose the parameter that I am asked to enter the user and password for the database.
If the parameter is static it's fine and I don't get prompted. Because I want the end-users to schedule their own reports I need to have the user and password embedded in the report.
From what I've read in the forums, there seems to be a lot of issues with dynamic parameters and database logons, and no real solutions. But this is just weird that it's only failing when I try to schedule the report!

I am having the same issue.
    Issue started on 9/25/2008
Existing BO 11r2 installation including service pack 2
Windows Server 2003 Service pack 2
Existing scheduled reports do not exhibit this behaviour and run correctly.
Add new or update existing report. Log into the CMC as administrator and set process for database and parameters.
    Exit CMC
log into Infoview.  Click on report and run (as administrator OR as existing user with permissions) NO PROBLEM.
Log into Infoview as Administrator or existing users with permissions) as attempt to schedule report.  All reports Any dynamic parameter and request for user name and password opens.  Once the correct info is entered the report can be scheduled.
This is a new issue on our installation, we have been running without problems for over a year.
    Any help appreciated.

  • Dynamic Parameter - Login Prompt

I created a command which has a paramenter in it. Crystal Reports automatically created the paramenter in the report. My problem is that when I run the report in infoview I am prompted for the database username and password. I have already set the datasources in my crystal report as well as in the cms setup the database and selected use the database connection and do not prompt.
I have narrowed the problem down to the dynamic parameter. I am not prompted for the username and password when I remove the parameter.
I am not sure if the problem is with my command given the fact that I am doing a select statement from two different databases or what. or
I changed the static parameter to a dyanmic parameter so that I could let me users select using a description rather then just a number.
    I'm using crystal reports 11.0.0.1282
    Richard

I don't know. I have tried to do it a few ways. Here is my query:
    SELECT     EmpName, ClockNbr, DeptNbr, DeptName
    FROM         SecurityLevels.dbo.ActiveEmployees AS TB1
WHERE     (ActFlag = '1') AND (NOT EXISTS
(SELECT     transID, employeeID, agreementID, agreeDate, fullname, DepID, ContractEmp, Login
                                FROM          iagree AS TB2
                                WHERE      (TB1.ClockNbr = employeeID) AND (agreementID ={?@Document})))
I'm grabbing a list of employees and then checking to see who is not in another table. I could figure out how to make this work in crystal by just adding the two tables to the report.

When you create a dynamic parameter, Business Objects Enterprise Creates few objects for you that essentially creates you a List Of Values (LOV) object for that parameter. LOVs can be created and configured manually from the Business View Manager. You have to specify the database login information in the Data Connection object that your LOV uses.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can you limit write-behind batch sizes to a set number in Coherence 3.5?

I'm currently running Coherence 3.5.3p9 on Windows.
The cache store is set up to use the write-behind scheme via the read-write-backing-map-scheme tag.
Batching is enabled with a write-delay of 5s.
My understanding is that essentially anything that was newly inserted into the cache more than 5 seconds ago becomes eligable for storage.
Our application goes through a bit of a peak-trough cycle. Sometimes very little data is inserted all at once and sometimes a lot is. This results in quite varying batch sizes and big batch sizes do cause issues on our db from time to time.
I can decrease the write-delay to 1s in the hope that this will in turn decrease the batch sizes, but is there a way to set a specific number e.g. I only ever want to write 20 in a batch?

    Hi,
you can just break down that big batch into smaller batches (DB transactions) yourself, and you can also decide that you don't want to write more at the moment.
If you throw an exception Coherence will retry whatever is in the parameter map passed to storeAll and parameter collection to eraseAll. But it does not have to be the full list, it is expected that you remove those entries/elements which you have successfully persisted.
This way you can control the rate of writing yourself. Also, since the write-behind thread does not block event processing, therefore you are sort of safe to do longer waits in those methods if you want to somewhat space out resource transactions without returning from storeAll.
    To answer your question:
    You can either
    - do a physical transaction of 20 elements, remove those 20 elements from the map, then optionally wait and then continue with more elements from the map as long as there are any (this gives you the chance of controlling the rate of transactions).
    - send a physical transaction of at most 20 elements to the database, remove those 20 elements from the map and then throw a dummy exception (in which case Coherence requeues the rest... take care, after this they are considered freshly changed entries).
    Best regards,
    Robert
