When you create a dynamic parameter, Business Objects Enterprise Creates few objects for you that essentially creates you a List Of Values (LOV) object for that parameter. LOVs can be created and configured manually from the Business View Manager. You have to specify the database login information in the Data Connection object that your LOV uses.
Hope that helps.

  • How to pass dynamic parameter to a database function in OBIEE

    Hi,
I have a requirement like this. I have to create one report in OBIEE which was in Discoverer. Now in discoverer report there are some calculated item in the worksheet based on database pkg.functions. The parameter which user gives at run time that parameters are then passed to the discoverer calculated items dynamically. But I am not able to do this in OBIEE answers.
Can anyone tell me step by step how I can able to pass the user selected parameter values in OBIEE answer level.
    The example:
    GET_COMM_VALUE_PTD("AFE Cost & Commitment".Afe Id,:"Period Name(AFE)","AFE Cost & Commitment".Data Sel,"AFE Cost & Commitment".Org Id)
    GET_COMM_VALUE_PTD --- Function database
    ("AFE Cost & Commitment".Afe Id,:"Period Name(AFE)","AFE Cost & Commitment".Data Sel,"AFE Cost & Commitment".Org Id --- Parameters... :"Period Name(AFE)" is the dynamic parameter selected run time by user.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Titas

    Hi,
I already did that. But the existing discoverer re value report is showing correct value but the OBIEE report with EVALUATE function shows incorrect value.
The requirement is to create a OBIEE Dashboard from a Discoverer existing report. Now in discoverer report theere are several calculated items in worksheet level where database custom function is used and user selected parameter value is passed run time in that function. But when that is created in OBIEE with EVALUATE function in RPD, the report shows incorrect data. Could not understand how to pass the parameter value runtime.
Below is the discoverer 'Show SQL' query and EVALUATE function syntax which has been used.
    SELECT APPS.XXBG_PL_PROJ_ANALYSIS_AFE_PKG.GET_COMM_VALUE_PTD(XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.AFE_ID,
    :"Period Name(AFE)",
    XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.DATA_SEL,
    XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.ORG_ID),
    XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.AFE_DESC,
    XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.AFE_NUMBER,
    XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.APPROVED_AFE_AMOUNT
    FROM APPS.PA_PERIODS_ALL PA_PERIODS_ALL,
    APPS.XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V
    WHERE ((XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.ORG_ID = PA_PERIODS_ALL.ORG_ID))
    AND (XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.DATA_SEL = :"Data Selection(AFE)")
    AND (PA_PERIODS_ALL.PERIOD_NAME = :"Period Name(AFE)")
    AND (XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.AFE_NUMBER = :"AFE Number(AFE)")
    AND (XXBG_PL_PROJ_AFE_V.OPERATING_UNIT = :"Operating Unit(AFE)")
The EVALUATE function syntax is as below:
    EVALUATE('XXBG_PL_PROJ_ANALYSIS_AFE_PKG.GET_COMM_VALUE_PTD(%1,%2,%3,%4)' AS FLOAT , "BG PL Project Analysis Report_1"."AFE Cost & Commitment"."AFE Cost & Commitment.Afe Id", "BG PL Project Analysis Report_1"."Periods 1"."Periods 1.Period Name", "BG PL Project Analysis Report_1"."AFE Cost & Commitment"."AFE Cost & Commitment.Data Sel", "BG PL Project Analysis Report_1"."AFE Cost & Commitment"."AFE Cost & Commitment.Org Id")
The PERIOD needs to be passed at run time which user will select.
Please help to solve the issue.

  • Dynamic Parameter - Login Prompt

I created a command which has a paramenter in it. Crystal Reports automatically created the paramenter in the report. My problem is that when I run the report in infoview I am prompted for the database username and password. I have already set the datasources in my crystal report as well as in the cms setup the database and selected use the database connection and do not prompt.
I have narrowed the problem down to the dynamic parameter. I am not prompted for the username and password when I remove the parameter.
I am not sure if the problem is with my command given the fact that I am doing a select statement from two different databases or what. or
I changed the static parameter to a dyanmic parameter so that I could let me users select using a description rather then just a number.
    I'm using crystal reports 11.0.0.1282
    Richard

I don't know. I have tried to do it a few ways. Here is my query:
    SELECT     EmpName, ClockNbr, DeptNbr, DeptName
    FROM         SecurityLevels.dbo.ActiveEmployees AS TB1
WHERE     (ActFlag = '1') AND (NOT EXISTS
(SELECT     transID, employeeID, agreementID, agreeDate, fullname, DepID, ContractEmp, Login
                                FROM          iagree AS TB2
                                WHERE      (TB1.ClockNbr = employeeID) AND (agreementID ={?@Document})))
I'm grabbing a list of employees and then checking to see who is not in another table. I could figure out how to make this work in crystal by just adding the two tables to the report.

  • Infoview prompts for database logon screen when updating dynamic parameter

I have already set up initial database ID/PW for the report in CMS, but when I I tried to update my parameter to schedule the report, it is requiring the user to enter database ID/PW again........Is there a way to set this up so that the user can bypass this step since it is quite annoying?
    Thanks.

Is your lov created Business View Manager? If it is, you can store the userid and password in the data connection your business view is based on.
    1) Start Business View Manager. Close the default screen that appears.
    2) Click View > Repository Explorer on the menu bar.
    3) Expand the Dynamic Cascading Prompts folder. Locate the "Data Connection" for the appropriate dynamic parameter. It will be in the form of <parameter_name>_DC (i.e. it will have the name of the parameter and then '_DC').
    4) Double-click the Data Connection. "Property Browser" will appear.
    5) Type the database user name and password in that Property Browser.
    6) Set the Runtime Prompt to Never Prompt.
    7) Save the changes to the Data Connection.
The prompt for database logon information will no longer appear when changing parameter values.

  • The report you requested requires further information. Database Login.

I have developed a simple report (crystal XI) and deployed to Crystal server.  When viewing the report, the user is asked to login to database with ID/password.  The report works well in dev environment.  The report is not called programmatically via VB, C#, ASP, ... therefore I cannot set ID/password in source code.
I am looking for a dialog screen within dev environment that allows me to force the report to keep the ID/password with it and use it to connect to DB at runtime.

  • Dynamic Parameter Prompting for Database Connection Password

    Post Author: rsharp
    CA Forum: Publishing
    Hi
I've been finding recently that reports using dynamic parameters and published into Crystal Server prompt for the database connection password when the dynamic parameter is accessed.  Thing is, this only started happening recently for new and already existing reports with dynamic parameters and I don't know why.  In Crystal Reports the dynamic parameter can be accessed without a database connection prompt being displayed but not after publishing.  (Maybe there's a problem with the Publishing Wizard?)  Static parameters work just fine just as they always have, but I'm a bit mystified by the fact that dynamic parameters used to work (without prompting) but now they don't.  Any advice or opinion would be much appreciated.

from the CMC you have to set the default connection or wat connection should this report use,
go to this report in CMC, click process tab, and check the connection

  • Dynamic Parameter Prompting for Database Connection Password When schedulin

I'm having problems with Dynamic Parameters when I try to schedule a report in InfoView.
I create the report in Crystal Reports XI and publish it to the Crystal Server. I go into CMC and under Process:Database set the correct data source and enter the server, database, user and password.
When the report is run I can choose a dynamic parameter and the reports runs fine - it's when I try to schedule the report and choose the parameter that I am asked to enter the user and password for the database.
If the parameter is static it's fine and I don't get prompted. Because I want the end-users to schedule their own reports I need to have the user and password embedded in the report.
From what I've read in the forums, there seems to be a lot of issues with dynamic parameters and database logons, and no real solutions. But this is just weird that it's only failing when I try to schedule the report!

I am having the same issue.
    Issue started on 9/25/2008
Existing BO 11r2 installation including service pack 2
Windows Server 2003 Service pack 2
Existing scheduled reports do not exhibit this behaviour and run correctly.
Add new or update existing report. Log into the CMC as administrator and set process for database and parameters.
    Exit CMC
log into Infoview.  Click on report and run (as administrator OR as existing user with permissions) NO PROBLEM.
Log into Infoview as Administrator or existing users with permissions) as attempt to schedule report.  All reports Any dynamic parameter and request for user name and password opens.  Once the correct info is entered the report can be scheduled.
This is a new issue on our installation, we have been running without problems for over a year.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi Gurus,
Iu2019m having problems during import from a cluster table.
I wanu2019t to do an import with a dynamic parameter list, but I cannot get it to work.

IMPORT DIRECTORY INTO dirtab2 FROM DATABASE vari(va) ID st_key.
    DATA: tmp_var(100)   TYPE c.
This works - P_BWTAR is a parameter from the selection screen registred in VARI
I'm getting the content of the field in tmp_var
    IMPORT p_bwtar TO tmp_var FROM DATABASE vari(va) ID st_key.
This does not work - the parameter P_BWTAR is in the dirtab2-name
    I'm not getting the content

  • Dynamic parameter - Failed to retrieve data from the database

I'm running  a report with dynamic parameters and this report ran successfully for 2 days . For no apparent reason they stopped and the error message was received.  There was no interference from head office soI'm at a loss to explain why the viewer / reports suddenly stopped working.

Is this report based or Enterprise based LOV?
If you have report published to BOEnterprise, then it automatically creates a chain of objects for any dynamic parameter:
    Data Connection,
    Data Foundation,
    Business View,
    Business Element
    and LOV.
Each of this objects have configurations like users rights, permissions and some have logon configuration. Failing any of those elements may cause LOV to fail.
One of the tests you may try is to test relevant Business View by connecting Crystal reports to it.
Are you familiar with Business View Manager?

  • Limit dynamic parameter list to data added in last month

I have a crystal reports X1 report that uses a dynamic parameter for users to select. This parameter displays all database entries for the field. The field is called PLANNAME and lists out names that users have entered from the main application screens. I want to limit the display of these plan names to the most recent based on the CREATEDATE which is a field on the table that the Planname is stored.
Is there a way that Crystal reports can restrict / limit the list of vaules returned and available for report users to select. The list is steadily growing, and now requires the report users to scroll through hundreds of plannames (that is, all the plan names that have been created over the last two years).
    Look forward to any suggestions.
    Regards
    dave

Just a follow-up on progress ...... which has been a bit slow.
Have got into the Business View Manager and found the vaious parameter levels PLANNAME DC, PLANNAME_BE, PLANNAME_BV, PLANNAME_DF, and added the following filter to the data_foundation: (note: first part is a View I have created, )
    {CRYSTALVW_EFTPLANDETAIL.PLANNAME} in LastFullMonth.
I have not been able to add the SQL expression as it errors with reference to the INCORRECT SYNTAX NEAR THE KEYWORD "select"
SELECT DISTINCT PLANNAME, DATECREATED FROM CRYSTALVW_EFTPLANDETAIL WHERE DATECREATED >= '2009-01-01'
Note, this works okat in Enterprise manager Query Analyser, but not in the DF data_foundation.
    and the suggestion you made:
SELECT DISTINCT PLANNAME FROM CRYSTALVW_EFTPLANDETAIL WHERE DATECREATED >= DATEADD('m',-1,GETDATE())
This produces the same error message - INCORRECT SYNTAX NEAR THE KEYWORD "select"
and I can not get this to work in Query Analyser - error message is
    Server: Msg 1023, Level 15, State 1, Line 2
Invalid parameter 1 specified for dateadd.
I shall continue to work thru this, but would appreciate any helpful hints.
    many thanks

  • How to use dynamic parameter when a report is created using Stored Procedures

    Hi all,
any one have the idea of how to use dynamic parameter in crystal report XI R2
when report is created using Stored Procedure.
    Regards
    shashi kant chauhan

    Hi
You can create an SQL command in Database Expert > Expand your datasource > Add command
Then enter the SQL query that will create the list of values to supply to the user
    eg select field1,field2 from table
Then edit the parameter of the report.  These will be the SP parameters adn can be seen in field explorer.
Change the parameter type to Dynamic
Under the word Value click on Click here to add item
Scroll down to your Command and select one of the values that you want to appear in the list
    e.g field1
Then click on the Parameters field - this is essential to create the param
You can edit other options as required
That should do it for you.
I must say that i use CR 2008 connected to Oracle 10g SP, but i reckon this will work for SQL DB and CR XI as well
    Best of luck

  • Dynamic redirect on successfull login

ok i have got the normal priviledge login working great but
what i would like to do is this..
i am using mysql/php and running on a test server win xp
using the phpdev server setup from firepages all working perfectly.
User table consists of several rows but the main one in
question contains a field called start_page with a url in the form
of /subdirectory/urlname.php this is a subdirectory of the
    directory holding the login page.
what i would like to do is using the login behaviour if
possible redirect the customer (2 types) or admin to their own
start page (contained in the start_page field in the database
    record).
i have tried using the parameter settings in login behaviour
to dynamically set the url from the record set (record set contains
the username password and start_page) however this just throws up
    an error in the code.
the reason i want to do this is to eliminate the need for 3
separate forms to login each user type (which would work as i have
it that way now) however i would prefer to process the one login
form with the behaviour and dynamically redirect to the correct
start_page based on the record value..
ps i am ok with adapting code to a certain extent but am in
the process of getting to grips with php (normal asp coder)
thanks for your help in advance. these forums are a goldmine
    tom

Sorry don't know PHP but in ASP I would add an 'access_group'
column in my db. On the login page I would then script the page to
allow username and password access to the start page and show items
    depending on 'access_group' leve.
    Perhaps something like:
    <% If Session(""MM_UserAuthorisation") = "customer_type1"
    Then %>
Redirect script or HTML to show appropriate information would
    go here.
    <% End If %>
Hope this is of some help. Forgive me it may not be the best
solution but along the lines of what I would try doing.

  • Scheduling a Report with Dynamic Parameter Values

    Post Author: etlag
    CA Forum: Publishing
I have created a report using a parameter that has dynamic values - meaning the user can choose a date from a specific field. It works fine once published in InfoView, but when I schedule the report, when I try to enter the parameter I get promted for a login for the database, even though I have already entered this in the CMC report properties.
I have other reports that are using static values and they can be scheduled without entering the database login.
Any ideas what I am missing?

    dear etlag
its known issues, you've to set the default database connection to this report from the "CMC" web-bases appliaction , find this object click it go to "process" tab and then click the "database" tab,,, set your default database connection there and finally dont forget to set "Use same database logon as when report is run" at the end of the page
    and cilck ok
    try it ,, good luck

Please help me out i can log in to my itunes account on my windows PC.But cant open it on my Ipad4

    Awesomeness!
Search your hard drive for a file containing ITL in it. That is the file extension for the itunes database file. You might need to set Win Explorer options to show NOT hide file extensions.
Once you are sure you know where that file is, press AND HOLD the shift key while starting itunes. Keep holding the shift key until you see a question about choosing or creating a library. Choose the ITL file you found during your search.
    Is this on a Vaio?

  • CR2011 Dynamic Parameter does not show list at all

I am upgrading some Crystal Reports from CR 8.5 to 2011.  Some would be better served by using a dynamic parameter to allow the user to select the data for the parameter from the database information.  I have created a dynamic parameter on the Customer ID and set the description to be the customer name.  I have set it to handle multiple values.
When I preview the report in the Crystal designer, I get a text box to type in but not a drop down.  To be clear, I am not talking about the LOV 1000 limit here.  There are only 50 customers in the sample file I am working with.  I tried turning the static parameter into a dynamic one, I deleted the original parameter and created a new one.
In case it matters, the parameter is only used as part of the selection formula and if I enter a proper customer id, it will retrieve the data.  This report has about 7 tables (no stored procedures or views) and a subreport of two tables that is linked to the main report on the customer id.  The parameter is only used on the main report for record selection.  The SQL statement in the main report and subreport did need to be reset when I first opened the report in CR2011 but I did that on both.  I have verified the database and the option to verify on first refresh is checked.  The original parameter did have an imported list of about 3000 customer names.  I tried exporting the CR template to a new file and while the file size changed, the behaviour did not.
When I create a brand new report on two of the tables, including the same customer table, and create the parameter the same way, it shows me the list properly in a dropdown at the prompt stage.
I am not sure where to go here or what else to try.  If anyone has any suggestions, I appreciate the help. TIA, rasinc

    Thank for the reply Dell,
I see the logic in adding the extra table and keeping it unlinked and I do know the crazy data that can come up if I use it linked to other tables or use the fields in other parts of the programming.
However, I've now tried it several times, creating the parameter on just the name alone, with the ID alone, etc. and I still only get a text box to type into.
I have made sure the original selection criteria
    {customer.Id} = {?Customer}
if from the original table, not the new one, which I assume you expected me to do.
So I decided to run the same report through CR XIR2.  When I update the Set Datasource Location, I am now getting the message
    "Invalid Argument provided.
Details: The alias requested 'company', contains a combination of characters which is not considered to be valid"
Company is a table containing information about the main company, not the customers.  The same message pops up for another table as well.
Then I get a message that says:
"Prompting failed with the following error message: 'List of Values failure: fail to get values. [Cause of error: The table company does not exist in the document.]'
Error source: prompt.dll Error code: 0x8004380D"
This appears to be a database access issue but I know the firewalls are not a problem because I can create a new report and get the LOV properly with the same database and same desktop computer.  I can take that report created in CR2011 and use it in CRXI also and get the proper LOV.  Is it possible I am dealing with template corruption because there were so many items imported into the static list before?
