Dynamic Queries in charts

Hi
I need to use a query object created in coldfusion for a
chart in the report generator.
I found this article that talks about it but does not seem to
work ,
Link
to Adobe Web site
Does any one have more infor on this or has any one made this
work ?
Thanks.
Stephen

Got it to work using the aritcle by doing the following:
Created a report and bound filed names to request.Q.field1,
request.Q.field2, etc. The fields are actual column names from the
resultset.
Created a cfc with the following code:
<cfcomponent>
<cffunction name="getQ" returntype="query">
<cfset var qq = ''>
<cfquery name="qq" datasource="oraddpsdb" >
select * from scott.dept
</cfquery>
<cfreturn qq>
</cffunction>
</cfcomponent>
Created a cfm with the following code:
<cfinvoke component="advancedquery" method="getQ"
returnvariable="request.Q">
<cfreport template="advancedquery.cfr" format="flashpaper"
overwrite="Yes" />

  • Data series / dynamic queries

    Hi,
    I've got the following problem:
    I want to create a stacked bar chart based on dynamic queries. The query I use for the first series is:
    select null link, kw label, sum (volume) value from testview
    where id = to_number(:P18_ID)
    group by kw
    order by kw
    P18_ID is an input field.
    The query works fine and the chart is also ok.
    But if I use this same query for a second series I get an empty svg canvas as result. Even worse: no matter what kind of query I use for the second series I never get a result unless I take the variable P18_ID away from the first query.
    For info: the view testview is based on a table created by a pl/sql function (using pipelined output).
    Any ideas. I really would appreciate a quick answer very much because this is part of a project and we are running out of time because of this error.
    Thanks.

    Hi Andy,
    first of all: thank you very much for your efforts.
    I've tried something like you said before and yes, it works (at least most of the times). The problem is I want to have the option 'show all'. That's why I can't use a' where' clause (because I can't work with 'like ...%' for it would sometimes give wrong results because of ids with the same prefix -> or am I wrong?)
    What I mean is:
    where id like '1'% -> results for item 1 (and 10,11,12,...)
    where id like ' '% -> results for all items
    That's why I want to use a pl/sql function. The function is tested and works fine. But if I try to call it form ApEx it works only if use constants instead of variables or if I have only one series.
    Is there something like a time limit? Like ApEx stops processing if the database isn't answering as fast as expected (because a function is slower than querying a table). I don't really think that could be the answer because it's very little data and I'm using a pipelined function... but perhaps...

  • How to create dynamic ed flash charts based on user selected fields in Orac

    Hi all,
    Can any of the experts please tellme "how to create dynamic ed flash charts based on user selected fields in Oracle apex".
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Lots of different ways to do this, I blogged about one way (using a Pipelined function) here -
    http://jes.blogs.shellprompt.net/2006/05/25/generic-charting-in-application-express/
    Other options include using a PL/SQL function returning the string to use as the dynamic query etc.
    Hope this helps,

  • Dynamically displaying SPC Chart Title

    Hi
    I have created SPC Chart Disply.I did dynamic change of chart types(like xbar,xbar-range). Now i want to  reset the Chart title property dynamically. if any methods available.
    Thanks in advance.

    This method and all of the other helpful get/set syntax methods are easy found by using the Script Assistant, which is part of the Productivity Tool installation that you can add to your client workstation by running the Wizard Install link found in the xMII Menu's Visualization Services section.
    If you are working on a dynamic SPC charting application you might also be able to learn from some pre-installed content:  http://localhost/Lighthammer/Samples/SPC/Servers.irpt

  • Dynamic Queries with JSP

    I am developing a search page which should first bring the results sorted by some particular field & then the user should have the option of sorting the results by other field names which are provided in a form list.
    For generating dynamic requests, ? is used in place of parameter. But for some reason it is not working with Order by. Other dynamic queries are working fine. Please let me know the right way to handle it.
    And also if someone can advise a good reference book for dynamic SQL statements in accordance with JSP.
    Thanks for your time.

    Never mind my previous solution. Some success was not perfect, therefore not acceptable. I used a scriplet and the problem is solved!

  • Dynamically set flash chart height?

    Hi,
    I have a flash chart that includes a selector that alters the query for the chart. Depending on what the user selects, the chart shows a different number of rows (this happens to be a stacked horizontal bar chart, but this could apply to any chart type). I would like to be able to dynamically set the chart height based on the number of rows the query returns. If I set it too small and the user makes a choice that returns a larger number of rows, the chart bars are compressed to the point where the labels are unreadable or omitted altogether. Conversely, if I set the height to a larger value and the user makes a selection that results in a small number of rows, the chart is overly extended and hard to read.
    I am able to calculate what I'd like the chart height to be using a page item and a before header process. But I can't figure out how to pass this value to AnyChart. I tried using an item substitution (e.g., &P7_CHART_HEIGHT.) as the value for the chart height on the Chart Attributes/Chart Settings page, but this attribute requires a non-zero numeric value. I tried to figure out if I could alter the chart XML, but could not figure out how to do it and I'm not sure item substitutions would be passed in the XML anyway.
    Is there a way to dynamically set the height attribute of a chart at page load time?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
    You can update the Region Source of your chart, replacing the substitution strings *#HEIGHT#* with the reference to your page item *&P7_CHART_HEIGHT.*. So your chart region source should then look something like the following(note that I've trimmed some lines for display purposes), and when the chart is run it will pick up your setting for the height, based upon the value returned from your Before Header process:
    <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"

           scale="noscale"

  • Dynamic queries best practice

    Hello,
    I want to create a report that the user can use radio buttons to refine. As an example, referring to the apex sample application's Products page, add radio buttons for [>] All prices [>] under $500.
    I think the technique demonstrated for building dynamic query reports (this is a 1.6 tutorial,link to it is here) is the way to do this, but I'm not sure this is the best approach.
    I'm wondering about any design disadvantage. I'd appreciate comment. Also, if there is a working example with source view in the public apex workspaces you are aware of, post a link if there's value beyond the tutorial I mentioned.
    Thank you.
    Albert

    I am using dynamic queries from time to time. Here is a working example:

  • How to escape apostrophe in Oracle PL/SQL  dynamic queries

    I have an script that receives an string as a parameter, for example:
    @C:/myScript.sql "AXEL";
    @C:/myScript.sql "AXEL DAVID";
    @C:/myScript.sql "o'neal";
    my scripts basically constructs a Parameterized query an execute it. That's all. It works most of the time, except when the parameter contains apostrophes
    DEFINE myparameter = &&1
    myquery := "Select * from myTable where x = :p1";
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE myquery into results USING myparameter;
    ...When trying the following;
    @C:/myScript.sql "o'neal";
    I get the following error:
    Bind Variable "p1" is NOT DECLARED
    Of course if I change the parameter as "o''neal" It will work, but I will end up with other issues later on, so I would like to know how can I deal with apostrophe on dynamic queries.
    I also tried to use the following:
       myquery := "Select ....  where x = " || Q'#:p1#';
    ...but not working.
    any hint will be appreciated =)

  • Dynamic queries

    I am trying to use "? parameter style" to execute dynamic queries at runtime on the view object. I was sucessful in using this for the rowsetInfo but i want to do this for a view object. I cant seem to call the new queries after i assign the new where clause to the VO using the whereClauseParams(). I am building an applet/application. Does anyone have any examples....( ie : oracle people)?

    I looked at the help-topics under creating and changing view object queries in the code....however how do i tie this into the view objects i already created using BC4J...Here is my code for example:
    ApplicationModule appmod = sessionInfo1.getApplicationModule();
    ViewObject vo = appmod.findViewObject("PARAMVIEW");
    vo.setWhereClause("MGR > 1000");
    vo.executeQuery();
    rowSetInfo1.executeQuery();
    ---this does not work!!!!
    this does however
    rowSetInfo1.setWhereClause("MGR > 1000");
    rowSetInfo1.executeQuery();
    i want to use the vo because i was told that the rowSetInfo.executeQuery runs on the client side (in Help- 'ABOUT Dynamic Clauses in Data Form'-->"...the addition of dynamic WHERE and ORDER BY clauses that execute on the data form *client*")while the vo.executeQuery on the server side...Does anyone know if this is true...and if this will improve performances in an applet or am i just waisting my time?

  • Enabling dynamic queries in wl7

    How do I enable dynamic queries in WL7. The info provide here is not very clear...like how/what to change in ejb-jar.xml http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs70/ejb/cmp.html#1089703

    Hi Minh,
    This is the second time I've answered this question in a week. I'll make sure the documentation gets clarified.
    You enable dynamic queries in your weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file with the following:
    <enable-dynamic-queries>True</enable-dynamic-queries>
    You can optionally set a method permission in ejb-jar.xml to control access to the feature. An example follows:
    <security-role>
    <role-name>Admin</role-name>
    </security-role>
    <method-permission>
    <role-name> Admin </role-name>
    <method>
    <ejb-name> EmployeeEJB </ejb-name>
    <method-name> createQuery </method-name>
    </method>
    </method-permission>

  • Dynamic web-based Chart-Generation

    Hi,
    I want to a offer my users a dynamic web-based Chart-Generation.
    Actually I'm using Excel for generating charts and display the result in a static HTML-Page.
    My goal is the user selects the wanted chart (eg. in a dropdown-menue) and this chart will be created immediately.
    The charts are connected to a database where the data have been stored.
    Is there existing a Freeware-Tool/Module I can use?
    cu
    Chris

    Before FireFox got SVG and made such things obsolete, I spent a couple of sundays playing around with server-side image generation for prettier flow-charts and UML - see http://www.lapisblue.net/ for examples, http://tincancamera.com/examples/java/lapisblue/image-server/ for source code.
    It's nothing special, you're free to use it if you want - the main image generation servlet's ImageServlet; it serves up pngs, and caches and redirects repeated requests; the other servlets have different image generator classes.

  • Dates and dynamic queries

    Hi.
    I am retrieving Entity EJBs using dynamic queries.
    I had some troubles working with dates.
    This is an example about the kind of query I am talking about:
    SELECT OBJECT(a) FROM Payment AS a WHERE a.date <= '2/3/2005'
    It worked prefectly fine in development environment.
    So far so good, but finally it did not work properly in production.
    I think the reason is that date format configuration is different (after all, all other queries without any date parameter works fine).
    How can I set date format for Weblogic Server 8.1?
    Or maybe some other idea about what is going on?
    Thanks in advance
    Oscar

    I'd use a java.sql.PreparedStatement and let it worry about properly escaping that Date. I'd also be leery of returning a ResultSet. That's a database cursor, a scarce resource. Better to load the result of your query into a data structure and close the ResultSet right away.
    String sql = "SELECT * FROM purchasedTransaction "
                      + "WHERE "
                      + "transactionDate >= ? AND transactionDate <= ?";
    PreparedStatement statement = connection.prepareStatement(sql);
    statement.setDate(1, theDateFrom);
    statement.setDate(2, theDateTo);
    ResultSet result = statement.executeQuery();
    while (result.next())
    // load your query into a data structure of some kind and return that.
    result.close();
    statement.close();Returning a CachedRowSet would be better than a ResultSet:

  • Can we see dynamic data on charts using Excel Services

    hi all,
    i would like to know if there is any option in SharePoint 2013 for developing dynamic "responsive/interactive Charts"  with SQL server as data source. And the connection should be there online, i mean the charts should refresh data based on
    the SQL data all the time.
    When i saw the feature of excel service, i could see only retrieving of data using data connection from sql and after adding that data to workbook, we can create responsive charts with required filters. However, i dint see option of data refresh from external
    source without opening the excel work book.
    What i want is, once i added the chart using chart webpart, if any new data is added or modified in external data source i.e., like SQL in my case, the chart should automatically updated with new changes in the data.
    please let me know if my requirement can be fulfilled using OOB.
    thank you beforehand .

    Data in a Microsoft Office Excel workbook that has been displayed in Excel Services can come from two different locations. The data may be stored directly in the workbook, or it may be stored in an external data source, such as in a database or
    in an Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) cube.
    If the data comes from an external data source, the workbook author or administrator has defined the connection information, often in an Office data connection (.odc) file, which describes how to locate, log in, query, and access the external data source.
    When you are connected to an external data source, you can perform a refresh operation to retrieve the updated data. Each time that you refresh data, you see the most recent version of the data, including any changes that were made to the data since it was
    last refreshed.
    Refresh all connections
    On the Excel Web Access toolbar, under the Update menu, click
    Refresh All Connections.
    Periodic refresh
    By using Office Excel 2007, the workbook author can specify that data automatically refreshes at a specified interval after the workbook is opened for each connection in the workbook. For example, an inventory database may be updated every hour, and so the
    workbook author has defined the workbook to automatically refresh every 60 minutes. For more information, see Microsoft Office Excel 2007 Help.
    A Web Part author can select or clear the Allow Excel Web Access Periodic Data Refresh property to enable or disable this periodic refresh operation, if the property has been defined by the workbook author. When the time interval elapses,
    by default, the following refresh alert prompt is displayed at the bottom of the Excel Web Access Web Part:
    Refresh data for <List of Connections>? (Now) (Always) (Don't ask me again)
    An Excel Web Access Web Part author can also set the Display Periodic Data Refresh Prompt property to control the behavior of the message that is displayed when Excel Services performs a periodic data refresh during a session:
    Always      means that the message is displayed with a prompt at each interval.
    Optionally      means that a user can choose to continue periodic refresh without displaying a message.
    Never      means that Excel Web Access performs a periodic refresh without displaying a message or prompt.
    For more information, see
    Excel Web Access Web Part custom properties.
    I have only listed a couple of the ways you can have Excel services update external data, this is not an exhaustive list

  • Using "enable-dynamic-queries"

    Has any one used <enable-dynamic-queries>True</enable-dynamic-queries> in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml?
    If yes, where exactly do you specify that? As per the DTD, you do it in "<entity-descriptor>"
    element. I tried that but I can't deploy the application on wls 7.
    Any ideas what might be wrong?
    Also, does anyone know if I WLS 7 supports using WL extensions to EJB-QL for writing
    dynamic queries?
    Thanks for the help.

    Here's the relevant section of my weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
