Dynamic Text keeps resetting
I have 5 dynamic text fields. They are all getting their text
property set in a function when the movie starts. I have a button
on frame 2 which makes it change to frame 3. When the frame changes
all the text fields get set back to their original value.
What am I doing wrong?
Also, are there any examples of using the SeekBar component
with Sound?
Thanks,
Joe
You must have a keyframe on the layer containing the text
fields... get rid
of it.

Help with code for score-keeping with dynamic text box
Hi All,
I'm having an actionscript 2.0 problem with keeping score.
I have a dynamic text box with a variable called score.
I have the following action code for that variable:
_root.score = 0;
For the correct answer button I have this action:
_root.score = Number (score) +10;
This works fine to increase the score by 10 for each correct answer.
The problem is that I can't get an if statement to work for when the score reaches 150 to gotoAndPlay a certain frame. I've tried various syntax, I've tried it on the action for a button and an action for the timeline with:
onRelease = function () {
(My learning game is set up to allow for users to answer up to four extra questions to reach the score of 150).
Nothing works. Any suggestions please?
PamBelow is a link to a small sample file. See if you can find anything different between your file and the one linked that might cause yours to not work as desired.

Create a Link using Dynamic Text and Capture Variable
I am building a dynamic website using Dreamweaver CS5 with Coldfusion 9
Currently I have created a dynamic text table. The table is created by querying the Invoice table and displays the all the customers Invoices. The columns Include Invoice #, Date, Amount Paid, BalanceRemaining, Due Date. So basically lists all the invoices I have applied to the unique customer. It is pulled up using a session variable I created from the login page.
My question is this I want to make the "Invoice #" linked so when you click on it it goes to a new page and performs a new query which retrieves infro related to that specific invoice such as Services Rendered, Service Description, Date, Price, Total. I was able to create a link to the Invoice # but I am stuck trying to figure out how to capture the Unique Invoice # and apply it to the new query. Is this possible if so how?
Thanks for your help!Now keep in mind I am speaking strictly from a web and SQL standpoint as I have no experience with coldfusion.
If you are able to create the link to the Invoice, I am perceiving this as the following:
Invoice
Links to
#123
page.php?invoice=123
#345
page.php?invoice=345
If your page is setup like that then you already have the data stored in the browser request with the GET method. In PHP the equivalent is the $_GET array. I am assuming ColdFusion has a similar array to work with forms. Then on your following page you obviously need to check that the visitor came from the prior page with the proper permissions to ensure that someone doesn't get the address page.php?invoice=### and just guesses through and views all invoices if they are not supposed to. Then your query would look something like the following:
SELECT * FROM invoice_table WHERE invoice_number = $_GET['invoice']
Remember this in written in PHP so yours should be a similar equivalent.
Hopefully this helps a little to get you going in the right direction. -
Can I embed fonts of all Dynamic Text objects in a Flash file?
Hi there!
I'm fairly new to Flash, so please bear with me.
I have created a Flash file which will act as our company's standard presentation / portfolio of all previous projects. I've pretty much got it running the way I want, but I've just tried it on a few different computers and realised that the fonts aren't embedded. I've used our corporate font so it needs to look right. Having read the following documentation (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/main/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=Liv eDocs_Parts&file=00000893.html) I now understand how to embed fonts for one dynamic text object at a time. However, I have a lot of different dynamic text objects in the file and I would dearly love to embed them all in one step! The same embedding options can be applied to just about all objects, as they're all the same size and font.
I hope someone can help me. If you are able to help please spell things out in simple steps!! I am aware that I probably haven't yet grasped a number of the basics of Flash.
Thanks in advance,
StuartStatic text doesn't need to be embeded. So I'm not sure what the problem you are having is. The page you linked to is for making an embedded font in your library that can then be exported for actionscript and used by code and style sheets. If you are following the instructions on the page you liked to you only need to do that once. Which shouldn't be too hard.
That is usually a different problem that having a bunch of different authortime created textfields that need to have characters embedded.
As far as I know your only hope to change a bunch of authortime/library items is using JSFL. So even if the thing I pointed to isn't exactly what you need you could keep googling a bit or use that as a template.
JSFL files are just text files so open it in note pad. Look for the line:
if(it[i].itemType == "movie clip")
and change it to this:
if(it[i].itemType == "movie clip" || it[i].itemType=="button")
Now it does buttons. You give up too easy. -
Dynamic Text and changing Text in AS3
I have a Dynamic Text box in my Library. I drag it to my main stage and give it a name..it is now a movieclip. The name is 'mcAdmin'. I added an event listener for MOUSE_OVER. I want the text to change color, but for now I'm just trying to change the text; however, it's not displaying the change in text I want. I do a trace, and the change is in there on the output window, but it is not displayed as such. How can I :
1) use AS3 to change the font color of the text
2) use AS3 to change the text and have it display?
function onMouseOver_txtAdmin(e:MouseEvent):void
Mouse.cursor="button";
//Current mcAdmin text is 'Administration'
//I want to change the color of Administartion on Mouse_Over
//but to test if I can get to anything, I'm just trying to change the text.
mcAdmin.text="Hello";
trace(mcAdmin.text);
mcPPMB.alpha=.5;
mcASB.alpha=.5;
mcISO.alpha=.5;
mcEA.alpha=.5;
mcAdmin.alpha=1;
mcAdmin.scaleX=1.25;
mcAdmin.scaleY=1.25;
Thanks.1st
give the textfield a name, if it hasn't already (sounds like you put it in a movieclip).
to change the text set the text property of your text field
like this
myTextField_txt.text = "here is the text";
or if it is inside a movieclip
myClip_mc.myTextField_txt.text = "here is the text";
To change the color you would need to put a TextFormat on it. To keep the same fontsize, font etc. you could first get the TextFormat from your existing Textfield, change the color of the TextFormat and set it on the TextField.
// get the Textformat of the first character
var TF:TextFormat = myTextField.getTextFormat(0,1)
// set the font color
TF.color = 0xff0000;
// put it on the whole text
myTextField.setTextFormat(TF) -
A drag and drop game with dynamic text response
Hi,
I am a teacher and my school has recently upgraded to Adobe Design Premium. Our previous version was about 5 versions out of date.
I teach A Level which requires students to create an Interactice Multimedia product.
In the previous 6 years, I have taught students how to create simple drag and drop game with dynamic text responses.
Since the upgrade to Actionscript 3.0 the dynamic text response has ceased working.
When creating the game from scratch, I need to move to Actionscript 2.0 as 3.0 does not allow me to add actionscript to objects - I know and am sure that this is a better way of doing things, but I would prefer to keep working the way I am used to.
I use a switch case statement which I have copied below to make the drag and drop work. The objects I apply the code to work in that they can be dragged, however, my dynamic text box with a variable name of "answer" is no longer displaying the response when an answer is left on a dropzone (rectangle converted to a symbol and given an instance name).
on(press) {
startdrag(this);
on(release) {
stopdrag();
switch(this._droptarget) {
case "/dropzoneB":
_root.answer="Well done";
break;
case "/dropzoneA":
case "/dropzoneC":
_root.answer="Hopeless";
break;
default:
_root.answer="";
break;
Any help would be much apeciated.
Thanks
AdrianTo drag in as3
blie_btn is the instance of the object drawin on the stage. In AS3 you have to assign a even listener, in this case MOUSE_DOWN, and MOUSE_UP, as we want the drag to stop if the mouse is not clicked. Then we fire the functions, and tell the object to start drag.
// Register mouse event functions
blue_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouseDownHandler);
blue_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, mouseUpHandler);
red_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouseDownHandler);
red_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, mouseUpHandler);
// Define a mouse down handler (user is dragging)
function mouseDownHandler(evt:MouseEvent):void {
var object = evt.target;
// we should limit dragging to the area inside the canvas
object.startDrag();
function mouseUpHandler(evt:MouseEvent):void {
var obj = evt.target;
obj.stopDrag();
if you want to make the text do what you want then something like this might work.
In the function, you could add a text box onto the stage, give it a instance of something like outputText
and then:
outputText = ("Bla Bla Bla");
(^Not sure if this will work exactly^)

Dynamic Text Boxes / Resizing text boxes
I have a site with a dynamic text box that I have initialized
(I'm not sure that that is the correct term) at the beginning with:
myText = new LoadVars();
myText.onLoad = function()
{ textBox_txt.htmlText = this.content;
myText.load("text/bio.txt");
stop();
Then I have just used a text box throughout with the same
instance name, although sometimes I have it on a new keyframe. I
assumed I could just keep loading text into it on different frames
with:
stop();
myText.load("text/performances.txt");
This appears to be working, except that sometimes it seems to
be confused and the text box on a certain frame has the wrong text
in it. Do I have to initialize one for each frame in order for them
to display the right code? What could be causing it to load another
text file if it's frame action is telling it to load something
else? It seems unnecessary to have to re-initialize it for a new
text box instance in every new frame, but is that the way it has to
be done?
Also, I'm not clear on resizing text boxes. It seems like if
I use the width and height numbers to resize this text box on
different pages then it changes the size of the text inside, and
the scroll bar (the UIScrollbar) is a little squishy looking
sometimes. How does this work?
Thanks for any help.You will find it much better to create a new LoadVars object
for each of the frames, just call them myText1 myText2 etc.
The name of the text box instance in this case is irrelevant
but best practice would be to give them individual names.
As for the stretching effect use setSize() for UI
components. -
I have a dynamic text which is subject of a motion tween. Before the tween starts I assign it a new text value. Now I noticed that at both the first and last keyframe of the tween the text value is reset to its design time value. Is there a way to avoid this, so that it retains the newly assigned value?
TIA
StevenIf you are tweening the textfield itself, you should find that it is now living inside a symbol (graphic) in your tween keyframes such that whatever code you assigned to the textfield before the tween doesn't affect the one that is involved with the tween. Place the textfield inside a movielcip and tween the movieclip to get around this.

Cannot use text:TextField with dynamic text in 3.2
Hi,<br /><br />I have a multi-lang app which uses English LTR and Hebrew-Arabic RTL.<br />I am using a properties file for each language, and I get the<br />right item using resourceManager getString.<br /><br />Until 3.2 I had to reverse the order of the words in each item when using<br />Hebrew (or Arabic for that matter).<br /><br />In 3.2 with the new Text layout framework, this is not needed (MAJOR IMPROVEMENT) but I cannot get it to work with dynamic text only static text.<br /><br />of course all works great if I upgarde to flex 4.0, and use the textBox component, but I do not want to do that, so late in the development phase of the application.<br /><br />Here is a small mxml which shows the problem:<br /><br /><?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><br /><mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute"<br /> xmlns:TryComps="appComponents.*" xmlns:text="flash.text.*"><br /> <mx:Style source="css/flashTypeStyles.css"/> <br /> <mx:Script><br /> <br /> import mx.resources.ResourceManager;<br /> <br /> </mx:Script><br /> <mx:Label text="Using text:TextField FIXED : THIS WORKS"/><br /> <!-- some text in hebrew if you dont see it you probably dont have it insalled --><br /> <text:TextField text="עברית כותבים מימין לשמאל"/><br /> <mx:Label text="Using text:TextField DYNAMIC : THIS DOES NOT WORK"/><br /> <text:TextField text="{resourceManager.getString(Locales.LOCALE_BUNDLE,'BI_DIRECTIONAL_TEXT')}"/><br /> <br /></mx:Application><br /><br />Any one has an idea ???<br />The 'BI_DIRECTIONAL_TEXT' is an entry in the property file which has the same value as the static text above.<br /><br />The run time error I get is : <br />TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter text must be non-null.<br /><br />Thanks<br /><br />Eli7
If you look thru the TextField class in the help documents you will find all of the properties you can manipulate. One property is the wordWrap property which will keep you text from going off the side of the textfield. Another is multiline which will allow the textfield to have more than one line. And another is the autoSize property which will make your textfield adjust to fit the amount of text loaded into it.

HT4759 My icloud Backup text keeps showing and blocking my screen. I can't use my Ipad now
My icloud Backup text keeps showing and blocking my screen. I can't use my Ipad. I touch on either "Ignore" or "Setting" but it doesn't go away.
Reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release. (If you see an off slider first, ignore it.)

Adding a progress loader to a dynamic text field / scrollPane
I have a dynamic text field which is loading images from an external html. This text is named scrollPaneImage and is a child of a movieClip called scrollPaneContent. I then load scrollPaneContent into a scroll pane named scrollPane
When the user interacts with my swf different images are loaded into scrollPaneImage. Since some of the images take a few seconds to load, I'd like there to be a progress loader displayed in the scrollpane.
I have tried adding the progress event listner to the dynamic text, the movie clip and the scrollpane and cannot get it to respond or track the loading.
scrollPaneContent.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS,reportProgress);
function reportProgress(e:ProgressEvent):void {
trace(e.bytesLoaded + " loaded out of " + e.bytesTotal);
trace("LOADED");
Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong or of another approach?
thanks in advance,
JoshHi KGLAD. Thanks for the response. Yes my code is a little messy. Here I have included everything and tried to do a little cleaning. Is there enough code here for you to get an idea of how/when things are firing?

Adding a math amount to dynamic text
Hi all,
I am working on a key pad that has a clock, allows you to
enter a time amount and then count down that amount or add seconds
to it.
Here is the file:
Flash
movie
As you can see there are a few things that I have been unable
to do due to my beginning skill level:
1a) 2 :34 PM isnt really a functioning clock, its just text.
While it doesn't need to actually work like a real clock, it should
have the colin blinking, and when you press any of the 1 - 9
numbers, it should clear away and present : 00, or : 0(number of
pressed button).
1b) How do I constrain the dynamic text box to only four
numbers in the format of "xx : xx", where x is any number from 0 to
9, then a space on either side of the colin. Numbers get added from
the right x first and get pumped to the next placeholder. (dc : ba)
2) Again, pressing OK doesnt really countdown anything, it
just says "cooking'. Upon pressing OK, how to I tell the button to
count down to zero whatever the number is in the dynamic text box?
3) The add button is supposed to add 2 seconds to whatever
number (except the clock) is displayed in the dynamic text box, but
it simply places a 2 next to the numbers. If 1:04 is displayed,
then pressed Add should equate 1:06, not 1:042
Here is the code:
btn1.theNumber.text = "1";
btn2.theNumber.text = "2";
btn3.theNumber.text = "3";
btn4.theNumber.text = "4";
btn5.theNumber.text = "5";
btn6.theNumber.text = "6";
btn7.theNumber.text = "7";
btn8.theNumber.text = "8";
btn9.theNumber.text = "9";
btn0.theNumber.text = "0";
okButton.theNumber.text = "OK";
cancel.theNumber.text = "CANCEL";
addmore.theNumber.text = "Add";
theCode.text = "2 : 34";
btn1.onPress = function () {
theCode.text += "1";
btn2.onPress = function () {
theCode.text += "2";
btn3.onPress = function () {

Here is what I have been trying, seen below, following what
Don mentioned. However, I get an error if I keep the " " around the
0 in the last bit of code. And in reference to my first post, how
do I expand the code to satisfy those questions. I'll keep trying!

btn1.theNumber.text = "1";

Individual Edit of Dynamic Text?
I am creating a Flash website and have managed to get the default Flash scroll bar to work with some Dynamic Text. As I have alot of textual content I want to make it look a little more interesting and appealing by editing in - some in bold, some bullet points, some smaller text/different colours etc...
However, if I change any settings such as the desired ones above, the whole content changes! I cant split it up because I would lose the scrolling bar.
Is there any way I can get around this problem? Keep my scrolling bar but add some interest to my textual content?
Help would be much appriciated - even though it is very late now ha-ha

Kyle Meredith
(CS4 if it makes any difference?)Thank you very much for your help - you have helped me out twice tonight ha-ha. Thank you.
Is there anywhere I can find out about Stylesheet Class? I really do need the content varying in styles - otherwise it is just so unattractive and just doesn't look right.
Or would you advice I staid away from it for a while - until I actually get some Flash skill behind me?
Kind Regards,
Kyle Meredith -
Im am currently working on a flash website and have succeeded
in making a scrolling text area... the thing is the text is dynamic
and you can't change like one word into one specific font... i've
been also trying to link this certain word to a different frame in
the scrolling text area but i can't! also i want to make an image
appear when you "mouse over" a certain word in this dynamic text
area. Any help would be much appreciated thank you.Hi kglad,
Thank you for the note. I have gone over the Actionscript and
can find no obvious flaw. Can you tell me how a property might be
assigned before the text is loaded? Could network traffic affect
this?
I did some tests during peak usage times.
The tests of the project seem to indicate that once the error
was encountered and the content reloaded (keeping the same session)
that the error would not reoccur. Closing the session and browser
and er-entering resulted in no error.
However, closing the session then deleting cookies and/or
temporary internet files then starting a new session caused the
problem to reoccur. I could delete just the cookies and the problem
would reoccur. I could delete just the temporary internet files and
the problem would reoccur.
Again, the error, when it does occur, seems to affect some
text fields more than others and never consistantly. Its a moving
target.
Thank you for your earlier clue.

Please Help -- Dynamic Text Wont Load :-(
Hi Gang,
I've just written a quick mail form in Flash8Pro/PHP - the
user enters their contact details & a message, and it sends it
off to the specified email address.
The feature works fine for the most part, but there's one
little problem. The dynamic text field that confirms the message
has been sent successfully isn't working properly. I'm using the
following php code to send dynamic text back to the flash document
saying the message has gone through OK:
print "sendresult=Message Sent!";
where sendresult is the name of the dynamic text field's
variable.
The strange thing is that the code works fine if the
sendresult dynamic text field is inserted into the main flash
document. It's only when I put the sendresult field into the movie
clip that holds the flash mail form (including the button with the
loadvariablesnum command), that the text won't update at all. I've
tried:
print "_root.enquirypage.sendresult=Data Sent!"
and
print "enquirypage.sendresult=Data Sent!", but neither of
those make any difference.
Any suggestions? Anybody know what's causing this problem?
Any help would be very very appreciated - I know I could probably
get around this by just setting the visibility of the dynamic text
field on & off when necessary and keeping it in the main flash
doc, but I'll be using this feature quite a lot and I'd really like
a proper/versatile solution. In case it's necessary, the
actionscript that sends the message off to the php is just:
loadVariablesNum ("form.php", 0, "POST");
Many thanks in advance gang,
- JayYour code loadVariablesNum ("form.php", 0, "POST"); will load
your variable sendresult in level 0 - the main timeline. If you put
the text field inside a movie clip it expects a local variable in
that movie clip.
Use _level0.sendresult or _root.sendresult as the dynamic
field's variable.
Or, instead of loadVariablesNum you could use loadVariables,
like this:
_root.enquirypage.loadVariables("form.php", "POST");
or, if you make the call from a button inside the movie clip:
this.loadVariables("form.php", "POST");
