Dynamically upload a PDF to a live site
Hi all,
I have built a site for the school that I work at using iWeb. It is located on the schools web server and all is running great.
However, the office ladies want to upload the newsletter (PDF) up to the website each week, but don't really want to learn iWeb or FTP. The previous school website was built using drupal, and included the option to login to the live website and upload an attachment.
Can anyone think of an easy way to do this?
Cheers
Mr Bunyip
Welcome to the Support Communities. One approach would be to embed an external blog in your iWeb site... Create a free blog at Posterous by attaching a PDF to an email — see this video tutorial:
http://help.posterous.com/how-to-post-by-email-video
You can set up others to be blog contributors:
http://help.posterous.com/subscribers-contributors-and-administrators
Then, to embed your Posterous blog into the iWeb page: Insert menu > HTML Snippet and copy & paste the following code into the HTML Snippet window...
<iframe height="100%" allowTransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="width:100%;border:none" src=“http://yourblogsname.posterous.com/“></iframe>
...and click Apply.
Or, instead of embedding the Posterous blog directly, set up this RSS feed widget with your Posterous blog's feed address — notice how the Preview here is clickable:
http://feed.mikle.com/en/
...and then copy & paste the code it creates into iWeb's HTML Snippet winsow.

When trying to upload a PDF to an interactive site I get the announcement: "The attached PDF file references a non-embedded font Tahoma. Please remove file, embed the font and reattach."
I could not get rid of the Tahoma font in the WORD file.
How do I embed this, or in fact any other font ?Thank you very much !
Indeed, I was unaware of the enormous number of options that can be selected when converting a WORD file to PDF.
I went thru the settings and found the right one for embedding the fonts.
Thanks again !

When viewed in Safari and other browsers the pdf looks like it was intended. In Modzilla there are shaded boxes covering headlines and artwork. Makes it look like a jumble. Here is a link

My preview site displays correctly but my live site changes when I publish it
My issue is that the preview site displays correctly however when I upload this information to the live site, the format changes and displays incorrectly.
Hi,
Are you creating the site in Muse and publishing it to BC.
If yes, can you go to File > Export as HTML, export the file to a folder on your computer and check it if you are getting same issue.

I've just had to teach myself Dreamweaver in order to edit my
website, as I was let down by my webmaster. However, now that I've
made thse changes I need to upload them to the live site. Can
someone please help me by providing me with a list of simple
instructions which a layman can understand?
Many thanks, and sorry for the trite nature of this posting.You could have saved yourself some trouble by directing the

We have two wordpress sites. On each site we have uploaded some pdf files that viewers can download. I noticed that when you try to download a pdf file the tab name that appears when you click "Download" is not the same as the filename. For instance: when I try to download a pdf file titled "Weekly Retail Skeptic". In firefox - the tab name will say "Microsoft Word - Note_2013_0523_Skeptic - Note_0523_Skeptic.pdf". It seems like the browser is reading what the file was before it was converted to a pdf.
I have tried both "print to pdf" in word as well as converting the word document to a pdf document using Acrobat.Hello,

How can I upload a PDF to iTunes U?
Hi,
My name is Tom and I'm a student at the University of Salamanca, in Spain. In doing my nursing degree and was wondering if it were possible to upload a PDF or pages file to iTunes U of the notes I take in class, or a copy of a presentation we did or something...
There isn't a "Universidad de Salamanca" category in iTunes U... does that matter? is there a public area to upload these files? it would be useful to do so so we can share them more easily with y study group or other students....
thatnks!!
Thomas KirbyThe school you attend would need to have an iTunes U site. If they do your courses would need to be inside of iTunes U and from there if the professor has allowed students can upload documents into a "drop box" to share with the rest of the class or it can be used to hand in assignments to the professors.

Why do I get Media Type "image/ipeg" when uploading a PDF?
I am getting this strange "image/ipeg" media type when uploading with FF (33.0.2 on Mac OS X 10.9.4), instead of "application/pdf." Viewing the request sent using Developer Tools, I get the following headers:
Content-Disposition: form-data; name="test"; filename="test.pdf"
Content-Type: image/ipeg
Looking at mimeTypes.rdf in my that profile, I see
<RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mimetype:image/ipeg"
NC:value="image/ipeg"
NC:editable="true"
NC:fileExtensions="pdf"
NC:description="Document">
<NC:handlerProp RDF:resource="urn:mimetype:handler:image/ipeg"/>
When creating a new profile and uploading a PDF, I correctly get "application/pdf", and sure enough, mimeTypes.rdf states:
<RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mimetype:application/pdf"
NC:value="application/pdf">
<NC:handlerProp RDF:resource="urn:mimetype:handler:application/pdf"/>
</RDF:Description>
I have disabled all Add-ons to see if any of them was causing this, but no luck. I suspect it's either some add-on or OS app association (like OS X Preview) that's causing this, but I can't find the culprit.
Has anybody ever encountered this? It's very straightforward to fix, but I would like to understand exactly what is going on because it sounds somewhat wrong to send "image/ipeg" as the Media Type for PDF.One way that odd content types can be added to the mimeTypes.rdf file is when you are presented with the download dialog (Open/Save/Cancel) for a novel content type and you associate it with a known application. But tracking down the exact site that caused this (assuming it was a misconfigured server) could be impossible.
On Windows, bizarre things also could be incorporated from the Windows registry, but I don't know whether there is anything equivalent on Mac. -
I am unable to upload any photos to photo sharing sites?
For the last two days I have been unable to upload any photos regardless of size to a professional photo sharing website. I have tried everything possible such as disabling my Norton services, emptying the DNS cache, clearing all browers histories and all cookies. I've tried creating new accounts on the website and nothing has worked. I then tried to upload photos to another site and when the photo started to load it said that I lost internet connection yet I didn't. I am able to use my daughter's dell and can upload photos just fine on any site with her computer. I did a live chat with Norton and they ran me through a series of things as well and said it is something with my mac. Does anyone have any suggestions???? I'm at a complete loss and beyond frustrated with this entire experience.
Hi, Thank you so much for the info.... I really do appreciate it. We had the laptop updated by way of a system upgrade with RAM and an additional SSD drive. Once reconfigured all programs were reinstalled but Iphoto is not among them. Iphoto was on the laptop when purchased so we have no additional discs. Before the laptop was updated we backed the photos up to an extrenal hard drive so we have them, but cant access them. Could I purchase Iphoto 8 stll? Would this work? We would also require an external CD drive as we no longer have the disc drive in the laptop (I think the extra new bits took over). You may have noticed I have very limited knowledge on computers so any help dispite how simple it may sound to some would help me greatly. I just want all my photos back .... Thanks inadvance... Hope to hear soon x

How to upload a PDF online, fill it, then save?
Hi,
I'm trying to figure out on how to upload a PDF to our own server (thru an FTP site) so users can fill it in, then save it to their computer's hard drive/desktop. i searched all over and cannot find a solution. Can someone please help?
Thank you in-advance for any help you can provide.
Current system:
MacBook Pro
Mac OS X 10.6
Acrobat Pro 9.4.3
Acrobat Reader 10.1You need to open the PDF and use File>Save as>Reader extended PDF.
Keep in mind that there are strict limitations as to how many times you can collect data from an enabled PDF. It's basically a limit of 500 times. You'll want to read and understand section 15 of the end user license agreement before proceeding. -
Flash 8 file upload .doc & .pdf help, please
I've been working with the file upload sample that came with
Flash 8 as well
as other sources to help me figure this one out... like:
http://www.flash-db.com/Tutorials/upload/index.php
Everything I seem to find out about file uploading with Flash
specifically
deals with images, but I need to upload .doc & .pdf files
to attach to an
email as part of an employment application process for a site
that is built
with Flash.
The back-end script is a simple ColdFusion file that I've
tested (and works
fine with a static HTML test page):
<cffile action="upload"
destination = "ServerAddressHERE"
accept = "image/jpg, application/msword, application/pdf"
fileField = "Form.resumeFile"
nameConflict = "Overwrite">
The Flash example script that comes with Flash 8 has been
modified as
follows:
System.security.allowDomain(" FQDN_here");
import flash.net.FileReference;
// The listener object listens for FileReference events.
var listener:Object = new Object();
// When the user selects a file, the onSelect() method is
called, and
// passed a reference to the FileReference object.
listener.onSelect = function(selectedFile:FileReference):Void
// Update the TextArea to notify the user that Flash is
attempting to
// upload the image.
statusArea.text += "Attempting to upload " +
selectedFile.name + "\n";
// sample code provided by Flash
selectedFile.upload("
http://www.helpexamples.com/flash/file_io/uploadFile.php");
// my modification here (I have tried absolute references as
well):
selectedFile.upload("upfile.cfm");
listener.onOpen = function(selectedFile:FileReference):Void {
statusArea.text += "Opening " + selectedFile.name + "\n";
// Once the file has uploaded, the onComplete() method is
called.
listener.onComplete =
function(selectedFile:FileReference):Void {
// Notify the user that Flash is starting to download the
image.
statusArea.text += "Downloading " + selectedFile.name + " to
player\n";
// this part is irrelevant to my needs and I've worked with
and without it
imagesCb.addItem(selectedFile.name);
imagesCb.selectedIndex = imagesCb.length - 1;
downloadImage();
var imageFile:FileReference = new FileReference();
imageFile.addListener(listener);
uploadBtn.addEventListener("click", uploadImage);
// this part is irrelevant to my needs and I've worked with
and without it
imagesCb.addEventListener("change", downloadImage);
imagePane.addEventListener("complete", imageDownloaded);
function imageDownloaded(event:Object):Void {
if(event.total == -1) {
imagePane.contentPath = "Message";
// this part is where I added the extensions I need:
function uploadImage(event:Object):Void {
imageFile.browse([{description: "Image Files", extension:
"*.jpg;*.gif;*.png;*.doc;*.pdf,"}]);
ANY ideas would be sincerely appreciated... even if it's just
to confirm
that the Flash file upload process ONLY works with image
files.... Thank you
ALL in advance for ANY help I can get. :-)Did you ever get your issue with the F12, publish preview,
not loading your browser? I have just upgraded from MX 2004 to 8
and now have this issue.

Upload/Insert PDF with Image Manager
I used to be able to insert a PDF and MP3 file through the Image Manager within the Item Description area but for some time have not been able to. I had asked the question in the old forums to no resolve. I've tried multiple sites from multiple browsers on both Mac and Windows but same issue.
What I do:
1.) From within any webpage/web app item description text area, I click on the Image Manager icon (little picture with sun and mtn. in the toolbar above the text area) and the Image Manager opens up.
2.) Now the Image Manager DOES allow me to upload both PDF and MP3 files onto the server from here (which is good). Then I go to the list and find the file on the server, I'll select the file and then click on "Insert" but the Image Manager just closes and nothing is inserted into the Item Description area.
This had worked for many years and like I said I can't get it to work in any testing scenerio. Same issue everytime when inserting, nothing gets inserted. The only alternative is manually inserted the href into the HTML but several of my clients have difficulty with this and it used to work before.
I know it's been stated that the Literature/Media Module is how you handle files but this is way more cumbersome then it should be and the way I and my clients used to do it through the Image Manager worked great. Any help or clarification would be great. I can't even find if this is a feature done away with. Thank you for the help.Tersieff,
I know you mentioned it had worked for your over the years. However I would recommend using the either the file manager or better the media downloads to upload and manage your media files. I see that it would come in handy to be able to select the file through the image manager, but I don't think it's working for media files other than images. Using the media downloads you will be able to provide a download link to this file, the downside is that you will have to manually enter the module for each media download within the item description.
