E Mail blasting?

it does not seem that the mail software version 4.4 that came with my i Mac can handle sending out over 500 emails at once.
or what some would call an e mail blast.
anyone else ever had this problem, or some info

Sending out 500 emails should not be a problem. I run a website that has just about 7,000 members.
Every now and then I send them all a email.
I checked with my host sometime ago when I had around 5,000 members about emailing them all at once and asked if it would be a problem. I email them through software that sits on my host server so thought it was best to ask them.
I was told it would not be a problem and they host sites that send out many more emails at a time then I do.
Maybe if your spamming using email list all the time it's different, but if your just sending out a monthly news letter or what ever to only 500 people at a time I don't see were it should be a problem.

I want to send an e-mail blast out to all of my clients but I don't want it to appear as spam. What I would like to happen is have each e-mail personalized with the recipients first name. Is mail able to do this without having to create 50 different e-mails?

No, but you may find an Automator workflow that will do that. Maybe a script. Do some google searches.

Limiting or delaying outgoing e-mail blasts

We have our GWIA (8.02 HP2) running on
a NetWare 6.5 SP8 server (VMware server).
We've been having a problem with our GWIA's server
rebooting (no record in Abend.log or SYS$LOG.ERR).
Our Vsphere Client reports a spike in CPU and Memory
Usage at the time of the reboot.
IF this is related to someone sending out an e-mail
blast (lots of recipients) ... is there a way to
limit outgoing e-mail to a certain number, per hour
--or, possibly, delaying responding to such volume
to lessen the impact on the GWIA?

My random thought generator came up with these:
Virtually all of GroupWise uses folder based queues to store up messages. So as a practical matter, reducing the number of SMTP Send Threads will reduce the number of simultaneous conversations. But any time the server spontaneously reboots its going to be a hardware issue - in your case a virtual hardware issue. You can use any SNMP trending system to monitor the number of threads in use, the depth of the send / recieve queues for the GWIA or set thresholds in GroupWise Monitor so you can be alerted when it gets clogged up.
The file based queuing also means that you can run out of disk space. So if you have crafted a rather modest VM, it may run out of space. If the GW system lives on SYS, then the queued mail competes for space with the swap file.
Are the agents running in protected memory? You may want to switch that around to see if it prevents an issue. If you are running them in protected memory - this means they have the potential to swap - which can run into the above disk space issue.
Its also possible to disable automatic restart after abend, so that you can catch it in the act. But then you would need to baby sit the server and ensure you did not have extended periods of down time.
Is the VM dedicated o being a GWIA? Or is thi server doing other stuff?
Also its VERY easy to prop up a SLES 11 VM and install the GWIA on it. You can have any number of GWIAs running in parallel, and use the new one as your default outbound GWIA - leaving the inbound path unchanged - no mucking around in the MX records, etc.
FWIW, we used to have this issue as well, about once every 3-6 weeks and had a "sacrificial server" set up - but now under Linux, it restarts just the GWIA without any loss of service. At that time we had 4 GWIAs and 4 Webaccess instances because they would up and die. Our reliability and uptime with GW 8.0.2 on Linux for our 3700 users is now > 99.997%. I like NetWare as much as the next guy, OK, probably more :-) but it getting long in the tooth. And we are very happy NOT to be running GroupWise on NetWare.

Please argue for or against this approach, both from a business perspective (what impact this approach will have on your sales) and from a technical perspective (what impact it will have on your reputation/deliverability).

This does not answer your question which is an important one. But as an aside in the direct mail marketing world there are obvious natural costs to a poor marketing strategy. In the physical world such poor marketing strategy as you describe would result in the company soon being out of business because there is a tangible cost per message. In the direct mail marketing world marketers have to be more sophisticated in their use modeling tools. Thus, in direct mail marketing the use of statistical models that result in things like Gain Charts and Lift Charts are essential to staying in business. In general I have found that digital marketers have gotten very lazy with what they think is "no cost per message". In fact everything we do has a cost/risk as economists such as Ronald Coase and Harry Markowitz have shown.
Put another way if Joe Marketer is correct then the cost would be that he should lose his job since to follow his advice does not require an employer to pay for a marketer to make that decision. I am very interested to hear what others have to say about specific reasons why Joe is wrong and any business examples they might be able to share.

How do I remove e-mail addresses from a csv file referencing a numbers doc

Greetings! I hope someone out there can help me. I'm not exactly a genius when it comes to numbers...
My Issue:
I'm attempting to sending out a large e-mail blast via software called hoolie, it seems to be working amazingly well except for the fact that I've reached our Gmail accounts daily limit which I had zero idea existed.
So about 1100 emails were sent and I still have to send about 1500 emails left to be sent. The software has no ability to resend to the failed e-mail addresses, so I'm left to my own devices...
My Goal:
I want to be able to subtract out the 1100 e-mail address from the csv file I have with all the addresses. Once I subtract out the e-mail addresses I can then resend the blast and throttle it so it takes a day or so and won't freak out google gmail...
How can I accomplish this? I have the orginal CSV file with all the names and e-mail addresses and I have a new numbers doc in which I pasted the e-mails that were succesfully sent...
Thoughts? Suggetsions?

Are you suggesting that it sent it to a random sample of the email addresses, that it did not start at the beginning and go row by row until it failed? If that is the case, you can import the CSV file into Numbers, paste your list of sent addresses in another column or another table of that document, then use COUNTIF to look for duplicates.
The best I can do is an example.Your table will no doubt be different so you'll have to rejigger the formula.
Importing your CSV file will create column B
Insert two new columns, C and D
Use Copy/Paste to copy/paste your list of sent addresses from your other document into column D
The formula in column C is =IF(COUNTIF(D,B)>0,"Was Sent","")
Once it has done its thing, sort by column C to get all the "Was Sent" rows together. Delete them. Delete column C, Delete column D. Share as a CSV.

Exporting animated gifs with fade transitions in PS CS6

So I created a basic slideshow banner with three different images that fade from one to the next. When I preview it on the timeline, everything looks great, but when I go to save for web and select gif, then hit play for a preview, the fade transitions are gone and they just hard cut from one to the next. Anyone know how to keep those fade transitions when exporting?

The only way to optimize this is to use less colors and define the frame durations manualyl in the timeline in frame mode, i.e. setting the actual posters to a very long duration on a single frame and then only have the transition regions use multiple frames with short durations. Still, I don't think you will ever arrive at 40-50kB. Even a normal mail blast with static PNGs/ GIFs and JPEGs is larger than that if it contains a huge logo, decorative lines and borders and button graphics... It's unrealistic. With the above optimizations you may get to somewhere about 300kB, but not below, if you wnat to retain the fades. They are what makes your files fat because they introduce lots of colors in teh palette that can't be optimized away easily...

Worst experience with a company I've ever had.

I never thought when I switched to Verizon from Comcast 6 years ago they would actually treat me poorly enough to make me consider switching back...
My wife and I just moved into a new home and when I put my move order in with Verizon they gave me an installation date of March 5th. What?!?? I'm a current customer and I already have all of my equipment, the community is already wired for Verizon, what on Earth could cause such a long delay?
So I called Verizon and worked with a lady who actually APPEARED to be helping me. She said she would talk to who she needed to talk to and work on getting me a sooner install date. She even e-mailed me from her own Verizon e-mail address and I have a long e-mail chain of her making promises to me including when she said she spoke with her supervisor and the engineering team and got me an appointment for this past Saturday.
Saturday comes and goes and nobody shows up to hook up my cable.
Now, I could care less about the TV service but both my wife and I work from home occasionally and need internet service. Especially considering we moved into a new home and there are deliveries to be made and work that needs to be done where we would need to be able to access the internet and work from home so we can be there for these things. So I started calling Verizon...I spent more than 8 hours on the phone with them.
The first time I spoke with a lady who said a supervisor was on a call and would call me back in 30 minutes...I didn't get a call back for 4 hours and called Verizon back myself. Then I got someone who told me he could schedule my install date for February 10th (today, in fact). Not ideal, I was supposed to be installed Saturday, but I will take Tuesday. I get the e-mail confirmation and he pushed my install to MARCH 10TH! The incompetence in that one is staggering.
So then I called back and the next two times after being on the phone for 30 minutes I was disconnected.
The final time I called I spoke with someone who said they would try to enter me as a new customer to see if I could get a sooner install date. This was the worst because not only is my install date still not until March 10th now (almost a week later than my original, still absurd, March 5th date) but she completely screwed up my account. I cannot even access it online, I get errors, and my install notice was changed to include a first time activation fee even though I've been a customer for 6 years! Oh, and when she was finished screwing up my account even more she had the nerve to try to sell me upgraded services over the phone!!!
Not to mention that one of those fine people I talked to, I forgot which one, even told me when I said I worked from home that I should just go to the public library and use their internet. That really baffled me at how rude and insensitive to my situation it was.
So then it is my wife's turn to begin trying to call, I had had it after 8 hours of this. She spoke with a supervisor who promised to call back the following day but refused to give his contact information in case we didn't hear from him or even his full name. I'm sure you're not surprised to know he never called us back either.
I even went the route of a corporate e-mail blast and wrote all the executives listed on Verizon's website about the situation. After about 12 hours I received an automated reply that they care about my case and will be getting in touch with me. I'm not holding my breath at this point.

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you.

How to create an interactive jpeg for use in an email?

Hello everyone,
I'm thinking that this must be possible but am not quite sure even where to start. Here's what i want to do..
Include an interactive image (I'm guessing jpeg) with clickable buttons for inclusion in an email.
When each button is clicked on, these would fill in a linked spreadsheet.
So my first question, is this possible with Adobe software? I have CC so access to a lot more programmes than what i currently use! And if this is possible, would somebody be ever so kind as to tell me how or even where to start?

This has nothing to do with PS. Pictures cannot be "interactive". You are talking about creating a HTML e-mail blast and that requires Muse, Dreamweaver etc.. And forget about filling spreadsheets. That's another discipline and requires extensive scripting or a dynamic server backend. Sorry, but to be candid: Since you haven't even figured out the basics, you are way in over your head. Time to read some primers on HTML and all that...

Retina Display-Better Screen or More Pixels?

I make a lot of advertisments, e-mail blasts, web banners, etc. that are viewed on my platforms. Does the higher-quality Retina display actual add more pixels to the screen so a graphic on an iPad 2 with a 1024×768 screen will look different, size wise, on an iPad 3 with 2048×1536?
Just thinking ahead to see if we have to worry how stuff looks like the old days with 640x480 vs. 1024x768.

The new iPad has 264 pixels per inch whereas the 1 and 2 have 132 ppi. Everything should appear the same size but with double the resolution.

MeetingPlace Express Email Notification

Hello Guys,
I schedule a meeting and invite someone from outside of the company by email. The meeting creation works but no email is sent to the guess. When I go to the Email Notification Queue Status Report,in the Description field, I see the massage stating "New meeting scheduled. Queued for delivery" but never deliveried. Could you please let me know how can I resolve the email notification issue. Please note that the SMTP server is configured and it's working correctly.

I have the same problem. I have tested the smtp server by sending an e-mail blast, and it works just fine. But when a meeting is scheduled, the notifications just stay on the queue stating "New meeting scheduled. Queued for delivery" but never delivered.Is there something needed to be done to have the emails from scheduled meetings leave the queue?

Slicing images in photoshop

Hello,
I usually use imageready cs2 to create e-blasts. I slice the image and add links and then i group the image together. We know have photoshop cs6 and i can slice in photoshop and add separate links, but when i go to group the images together they become one link. Is there any way to fix this?

I hope you realize that many (if not most) e-mail clients block images for security reasons. So graphics heavy e-mails are probably the least effective way to communicate with your mailing list. I use a scant few images in my e-mail blasts but I don't slice them. There's simply no reason to. See this article.

Is there a way to create e-mail content and use it in emails from our own company email address?

And this is supposed to mean what? Sorry, but this is a completely hollow/ empty post with no real content or meaning whatsoever. If you have specific questions, you need to do a better job of explaining what actually your problem is and how, if at all, it relates to Adobe software. And well, do your homework and do some reading up on a more general level about how to create e-mail blasts and what possibly the limitations and requirements are to successfully get it to your clients.

Export to Web viewing issues

I produce a simple piece of HTML mailing for my clients to send as an e-mail blast. I typically create these, and they contain graphics and some direct hyperlinks with URL information embedded within a slice. I Export to Web and place the produced files on my FTP, get the link and I send out a blast e-mail. When I test this on my Mac (Mail) the piece looks perfect.
I know that some folks block HTML, so I also include the URL.
Some of my clients have replied that the output is desheveled. Indeed it does look that way. It looks as there are shifted or missing slices. I started to send out a blast test to all of my personal e-mai accounts, and I did get questionable results through G-mail and my web hosts own client. But the art looks great following the link to the FTP. All of th eembeded links work. I'm sure most of my clients are on Outlook and WIndows, so I don't know how to correct this.

You would get a better response by posting this in the Dreamweaver Forum as the issues you describe are nothing to do with Photoshop but have everything to do with how your HTML email is coded. When you post there, be prepared to attach a link to the live page or post the code you have used.
Getting an HTML email to look the same across all email clients is tricky and involves a lot of consideration. Unfortunately you have been using Apple Mail which renders HTML through Safari so it almost always looks better than every other email client out there.

Not the Full Path?

In CS3, when I'm in code view, why can't I see the full path
for my sources?
I'm coming from Go Live 5 (old, I know), wherein the
Inspector would show the full source path, which I could copy and
paste into other apps.

APEX_MAIL.SEND and Bulk Emails

I am planning to use APEX_MAIL.SEND_MAIL to send out 5000 - 10000 emails within our company with our Apex application that we have developed. Does anyone know if the APEX_MAIL can handle the load? Are there any suggestions to handle this?

Are you going to put in your to parameter the 5000-10000 emails? I expect that might be a problem as it's a varchar2.
But you can loop and send the mails. I've never done such big mail blasts, but for ex. in DG Tournament I did around 500 without a problem. You'll see your mail queue will start to grow and it will be pushed every 10 minutes. I'm not sure if the queue can become full, otherwise you can push your queue manually every so often. So I expect it to work, apex_mail isn't doing anything fancy...
But try it and tell us if it worked ;-)
