E-mail is marked as phishing attempt

Hi.
We have an issue that some e-mails from our internal system that are sent through Rackspace Exchange are marked in Outlook 2007 as phishing attempts. Could you please advice me why? The header from one of such "phishing" e-mails is:

Thanx, Stepan.

Hi Stepan,
Please try to add the sending addresses to the Outlook safe senders list and see if it works.
A similar issue was discussed here, you might want to have a look and see if the info provided by MVP <Brian> in it is helpful to you:

  • Phishing attempts to steal Verizon users' e-mail passwords

For the 2nd time in a week an e-mail got past Verizon's filters and into my Inbox. Both were phishing attempts.
The first time I called Verizon because I didn't know of an e-mail address to send it to and the person at the other end didn't sound very interested but indicated that Verizon knew about it.
Here's the text (I'll leave out the link, which begins with econtact dot verizon dot com:
    Dear Verizon Internet Customer,
At Verizon, we continue our efforts to enhance your online experience as well as ensure ongoing security for our Internet customers.  As a result, Verizon Online has modified the way email is handled when sent or received through an email application other than MyVerizon.
If you only use MyVerizon to access your email account, no action is required and you may disregard this email.  If you do, however, use other applications to access your Verizon email, such as Outlook Express®, you will need to modify your email settings to take advantage of enhanced security we now offer.
In order to make these modifications, please visit ...://verizon.com/emailsettings for information about the  email settings you need to update.  Additional information may also be available by going to our online forum at ...://forums.verizon.com/.
Thanks for being a valued Verizon Online customer and we encourage you to act now to ensure your email account has the proper settings on a going-forward basis.
    Sincerely,
    Verizon Online

It you are not sure if something is a phishing email or not, NEVER click on the link to go into your settings.
Just log into your account manually without clicking clicks, and udpate your settings to be safe.  That way you know you are not going to a phishing site.

When you use OWA in something other than IE, you're using OWA lite and no--it is not possible to do either in OWA lite (well, new Exchange stuff makes my answer a little less emphatic but still: pretty much no). Thanks Microsoft. But this guy made it possible to mark unread/read and select all/none:

  • Mail with Gmail IMAP: All mail getting marked as read

So other than being painfully slow, and just plain irritating, I have one huge problem with Mail (Tiger) and Gmail IMAP. All incoming mail is marked as read. The mail downloads, gets sorted into folders by the various rules, but the folders never show up with a number showing new messages. I have missed so many emails lately, I think I will have to go back to POP...or add a line to every single rule saying "mark as unread".
Is there a simple solution to this problem I am overlooking?
    Thanks...Sam

Yeah, the stupid part is that all SPAM comes marked as unread. So I get to see that I have spam, just not legitimate mail. Ugh.

  • My Mail is marked as read

All of my mail (in Mail) is marked as read within a very short time of receiving it. This is obviously very frustrating. I have Mail on my iPhone, iPad, Mac desktop and laptop. My account is synced with Google (Gmail). I have looked through all the settings in Mail and Google and don't see how I can adjust this. The most recent things I have done that might have affected this is to cancel a Plaxo account and added an iPad to my collection. What can I do?

This is happening to me too on one e-mail account setup in mail (of seven). It's a OSX (mail) Server that is running the mail server in question. The Google apps e-mail accounts don't have this issue.
Edit: Just realized this was osx 10.7 - I am on 10.9.

  • All mail is marked as unread following iOS 7 install.  How do I fix that?

All mail is marked as unread following iOS 7 install.  How do I fix that?

Ignore my last question.  This was entirely user inflicted.
The count that shows on the mail icon on the iPad shows the number of email in the "New" folder on my AOL account.  Some of these are emails that I read and then marked as unread.  In the previous versions, these "read and then marked as unread' emails did not show in the count on the iPad icon...but now they do.  Not a big deal...it's just different.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Mail keeps marking as junk mail in Mavericks

    Hello all,
I'm having an ongoing issue with my Mail app in Mavericks 10.9.1 in that it keeps sending an incoming email from a particular sender to my Trash box even though I have it marked as not Junk mail and I've added the senders email address to my Contacts. It even shows up in Junk mail still marked as not Junk mail? Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it? Thanks.

Having the same issue here. Some of my emails are going to the junk mail folder without being marked as junk. I tried resetting the junk filter and that did not help. In fact, I recently upgraded to a new iMac and purposefully did not use the migration assistant, but the problem has followed me to the new computer.
It seems to be linked to specific email addresses. Mint.com, YouTube, Twitter, and a few other corporate accounts all have 100% of their emails go to my junk folder without being marked as junk. This is despite the fact that my junk filter in mail is currently set on training mode and shouldn't be sending anything to the Junk folder.
Has anyone found a solution to this yet?

  • Phishing attempt via email.

I've just received an email from ''[email protected]'' telling me that my iCloud has been frozen and to click on a link on the email. The email has no Apple or iCloud branding included which made me very suspicious. Also I've just checked my icloud account which is not frozen. Just wanted to send a note out to warn other icloud account holders. I would also like to send the email onward to iCloud but cannot find a contact/ support email address... If anyone has contact details would gratefully receive them.

It is a phishing attempt. Do not respond. Do not divulge any personal or financial information. You can use the address below to forward the suspect email message to Apple.

It has worked perfectly until a few days ago. How can I restore the old junk "learnt" list, since it is marking as SPAM senders who have been my correspondants for years?? Where is the old junk pref file to be found?

Why start a new and very similar thread to your other one which you have not responded to (have you read the replies?)
I suggest that no response is made to this duplicate thread.

Thanks fore the hint. Are you shure it´s from apple?
This popup is not a normal behavior and I can´t see if it comes from apple.
The is no  hint on apple.com that its save and a wanted behavior.

  • Just received a Phishing attempt for Quicktime 2009 How do I report?

I just received a obvious Phishing attempt email just hovering over the link has nothing to do with apple. And to beat it all I use a Mac and its for the windows version.
I'd like to send the email to an abuse or spoof@ address to apple. I hate stuff like this.

If this email came via a MobileMe account, you can report it to [email protected] You can also try [email protected], though I don't know if that is still a valid email address (reports are that it was at one time, but I haven't sent any message there myself).

  • Mail not marking messages/conversations as read correctly

    Dear All,
I recently got rid of Outlook for Mac (too buggy) and came back to Mail (much improved during my absence ). I have an Exchange account, plus a GMail and a iCloud. I use Mountain Lion from a Mac Mini and a Macbook Pro, and they both show the same problem.
The problem is the following (occurs at least on the Exchange account - probably also on the others, but I use them less, so I am not 100% sure at the moment):
    1. Certain messages are not marked as read after viewing, and they keep showing as Unread until I mark them as read manually.
    2. in addition to that, when messages are grouped by conversation, the conversations containing some of such messages, in their "collapsed" form, often do not show the last message received as you expect, but some older message - which makes the risk of marking the conversation as read by mistake much more likely, even if there are some truly unread messages in it. You just see an old message/conversation showing as unread, so you just mark it as read, and miss all newer messages. This has already caused a couple of incidents at work, and it's only one week I came back to Mail.
For problem 1. I have seen other threads in Apple Support Communities, but sadly, all the "solutions" are just workarounds - close and reopen Mail, deactivate and reactivate the mail account, mark manually, and so on - I know they work, but the problem is always there, and my guestimate is that it affects 5-10% of the emails I receive, which implies a continuous annoyance, given the number of email we all receive nowadays.
So, I am looking for some real solution, not the usual workarounds which actually do not resolve much. Please please please, spare me the shame to come back to Outlook - I will be grateful forever
    Thank you,
    Alfonso

So it seems nobody has an answer... I have to enjoy marking messages as read manually all day...

  • Use an alternative e-mail address after repeated failed attempts to send.

My company uses a small e-mail server company that offers a lot of benefits, but occasionally goes down for a day or two. I would like to find a way to automatically use another e-mail address after several failed attempts to use this server.
Thus, if everything is working right, my e-mail will use the regular server. However, if the original server is down, when my e-mail fails to send repeatedly using that server, I would like it to default to another server. Is there a way to configure this?
    Thank you.

No, you can’t. .Mac’s SMTP server simply doesn’t allow sending from a non-.Mac address.
Doesn’t your ISP include some POP or IMAP mail accounts with access to an SMTP server as part of the service? Such an SMTP server might be less restrictive.
A Gmail account would allow you to use Gmail’s SMTP server. Instructions for setting up a Gmail account are provided here:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13275
After setting up the Gmail account in Mail and checking that it works, you can use Gmail's SMTP server to send from your other mail accounts as well:
    1. Log into your Gmail account on the web.
    2. Go to Settings > Accounts.
    3. Enable the addresses you want to be able to send from, and let Gmail validate them by verifying that you do indeed own them.
    4. For each mail account you want to send from using Gmail’s SMTP server, in Mail go to Preferences > Accounts, and choose Gmail’s SMTP server from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) popup menu.
BTW, if you’re using Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), as your profile indicates, it would have been more appropriate to discuss this in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum. If the discussion applies to both Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, it doesn’t really matter, but it’s difficult to know that in advance.

  • Mail is marking all Sent messages as Junk

Mail is marking all my Sent messages as Junk. In addition, any mail I send myself arrives in the Junk folder.
Also annoying is that some new messages received (about 50%) arrive in the Inbox marked as Read.
MacBook Pro Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    For the Junk Mail problem.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail.
    Deselect "Enable junk mail filtering"
    Quit and relaunch Mail.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail and reselect
"Enable junk mail filtering". Select Reset to reset
the Junk Mail "learned" settings and you can leave
Junk Mail set to Automatic when doing so.
For the new messages received being marked as read,
for what type of account - .Mac, IMAP or POP?
Thanks! I've reset as you suggested. Hopefully that will be effective.
    I'm using a Pop account.
