E-mail problems on Macbook

My e-mail software will not receive e-mails. I am only able to send. I have had this program for a few years and am just now having problems with it.

well there you go -- from gmail. Have you set up the gmail account?
or do you mean your son is on gmail and sent to your msn account?
Have you gone in to MSN via the web page to see what you find?  That eliminates the mac entirely.
Bear in mind that if you delete something on the PC, and then go to the mac, it will nto download.
You rally need to give more details.

    I had a mac account. Then it was changed to a me.com account. I get RSS feeds into my Mail application on my Macbook showing the address as my me.com email address.
    When I try to send or receive other mail (other than RSS feeds) the application asks for my password. It never used to ask for my password so I have no idea what it was. How do I set a new password for it...?

    One way to get an idea whether  RAM could be at issue or not, is to check Page outs and Swap used. First, use your Mac as you normally would, the longer the better (checking this right after starting up isn’t likely to show you anything). After you’ve used your Mac for awhile (again, the longer the better), go to Applications > Utilities > open Activity Monitor > in the top menu at right, select All Processes in the drop down menu > near the bottom of the window click on System Memory. If Page outs is more that about 10% of Page ins, and/or Swap used is large, chances are good that  RAM is the culprit.

    The question mark means the computer cannot find a bootable volumes so can;t do anything, That, combined with annoying sounds, strongly suggests a failed hard drive.
    You can ask a "genius" at an Apple Rtail Store to test it but I'm pretty sure the drive is kaput. I'm hoping you had your data backed up.

Connection Doctor continues to show all green lights, but am still unable to download mail to the inbox. Has anyone else ever run into this problem?

    I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did. 

  • MacBook Pro Printing & Mail Problems

    My stepdad's Macbook Pro just came Fed Ex today. Amazing yesterday, it was in Shanghi.
    Anyway, I have two major problems. First, I imported all his old documents and settings, using the assistant from his old iMac. When I went to print, nothing happens. I mean I click on the button, but no print window pops up. It does not matter what application I am in. The printer is plugged in the USB port correctly. It is supported ( a Lexmark laser E320). The driver is installed. The computer even says it sees the printer. I just get no print window, and the print queue stays empty.
    Apple support was useless. The person barely could speak English and the recommended solution was to re-install OSX. How could that help, I only had the computer for an hour and a half.
    Second, the installer imported all my step dad's mail, but when I click on the reply button to respond to other's email, nothing happens (the exact same problem as with printing, nothing happens). Again, Apple support was no help. Repairing permissions, emptying the cache, trashing preferences, nothing helped.
    Any clues would be helpful. What a bumper, as I hyped up the machine

    I used Print Repair Setup. The demo is free, but it is shareware. I had forgot about this software, but have used it in the past, and it is great. It can be found at:

    I should say, however, that it only solved the printing problem for the root user's account on my machine (which also had not been working). I did not check my account before verifying the fix and psoting here. Sure enough it did not work. Eventually I did an index and reinstall, and it restored printing for my normal account. The utility may work for you though, so try it out. As I set, I have used it in the past, and it has fixed some problems when all else failed.
    I will have an update for my mail problem. The indexing and reinstall did not solve the mail problem. I, however, discovered the problem. Apparently, I had a .Mac account a long time ago. I cancelled it after the year of reduced membership costs expired. My computer, however, carried this information forward with it when I updated my operating system several times from 10.1 to 10.4.
    After trying everything I coudl think of, including deleting the .Mac mail folders in the Library Mail folder, I went to system preferences. I opened the .Mac option, and deleted the user name. I closed mail, and restarted it. This solved the problem for me.

    Hi all. In Mail, All the new emails I get from a previous recipient are not showing up, instead showing me emails from that person from 2008 (Emails I thought I'd deleted).NB - this is only happening on my macbook, not my ipad or iphone. Help?!

    Is your Verizon account partnered with Yahoo? Also, have you rebooted Mac since setting up the email app?
    One thing you might try, add @verizon.net to the username field (or remove it if you already have it in there). Sometimes the email servers go weird like that.

    Hello BassoonPlayer,
    Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using.  FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in.  This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly.  By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you.  Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

    For the last week my incoming mails on my iCloud account does not appear in Mail on my MacBook Pro.  E-mails appear as normal on my iCloud and iPhone.
    I have logged out of iCloud on my Mac and logged on again, still the same problem.

    i have spent 22 hrs with Apple support on line about a mail problem. I have a new Macbook Pro and I want to know if after I format the hard drive for the 4th time, reinstall Mavericks  can I generate a completely new Apple ID, and E-mail address, just abandoning the old ones. The same with I tunes just start over.

    If you generate a new ID, any purchases you have made in the App Store or iTunes and any updates to the computer will not be accessible.

    I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
    i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
    so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!

  • Post-Upgrade Mail Problems

    After upgrading on both a Mac Pro and MacBook Pro I encountered several problems with Mail.
    On MacBook Pro:
    Unable to receive email for certain accounts
    Was able to delete the offending accounts and add them and this solved the problem.
    On Mac Pro:
    Unable to receive email for certain accounts
    Am unable to add accounts.  When going through either File: Add Account... or Preferences the result is the same: nothing happens when Add Account... is selected or the + in Preferences is selected.
    I've been working with Apple Support and had them remote access the desktop and they seem to be scratching their heads.  Thought I would try here and see if anyone else has not been able to get the File: Add Account... window to appear and how the problem was fixed.  I had no problems whatsoever with Mail prior to the upgrade.

    I updated a 10.6.4 server to 10.6.5.
    The server is open directory master, and yes, there were huge problems with the following symptoms :
    - LDAP server broken
    - directory services process using more than 100% cpu
    If I checked a directory services log, there was the following error :
    Misconfiguration detected in hash 'Global SID'
    Group 'com.apple.sharepoint.group.5' (/Local/Default) - ID 406
    Group 'com.apple.accessremoteae' (/Local/Default) - ID 406
    So there was a duplicate not in the LDAP configuration but in the local users directory : a duplicate of ID 406.
    As I didn't have time to restore all server from backup, I was able to delete the duplicate ID, restore directory services from backup, and then it came back to normal.
    Other services were not touche, but I don't use email services.
    DNS was not broken.

    Please can someone help? My email account is with Yahoo mail (free one); I can send and receive emails without a problem from Mail on my MacBook. However If i send an email from a browser session in Yahoo mail then the sent email does not appear in my Mail sent folder. Likewise i can send and receive emails on my iphone but the sent emails do not appear in either my Yahoo Sent folder or my Mail sent folder.

    that's because yahoo only offers POP access. that's a limitation of POP. it only downloads your inbox messages from the server. it does not do any kind of syncing and it does not download or up load sent messages. if you want that you need to switch to an email provider that offers IMAP (yahoo doesn't). IMAP syncs everything with the server so you'll get the same mailboxes contents everywhere you access that account.

    My Wife and I both have an Ipad and an iPhone, I use an iMac and my wife a MacBook Pro.
    I have this problem with all my devices.
    My wife has NOT got this problem.
    We both use a [email protected] email acount.
    Just compared the settings:
    For "Incoming server" I have p03-imap.mail.me.com
    My Wife has p02-imap.mail.me.com .... and has not got this problem.
    I have setup a new rule for incoming mails (for the meantime):
    move all incoming emails from [email protected] to trash and delete it.
    Works fine for now,......until APPLE deals with the problem.
