Ipod shuffle is not recognized by any computer or itunes

I have a first gen. ipod shuffle. It does not show up in Windows or Itunes on two different computers. The original problem was that it would not skip to the next song. I was going to reset or restore it, but I can't because neither computer (dell) that i own recognizes the shuffle. Help anyone?

I have downloaded that utility but can not use it, as
when I plug the shuffle into the USB port, it is not
recognized by either computer I am using. I can not
reset or restore, because in order to do that the
computer would have to know the shuffle is plugged in
and it doesnt. I have tried this on two different
computers and get the same result, so I dont think
its a computer issue, its an ipod issue. I also used
to be albe to play the shuffle on the Xbox 360 and
now can not.
Just as a check, did you actually follow the THESE directions...EXACTLY?
Using iPod shuffle Reset Utility
1. Quit all running applications on your computer.
2. Open the iPod shuffle Reset Utility.
3. Connect iPod shuffle to a USB port on your computer. Do not connect iPod shuffle to a USB port on your keyboard or other non-powered USB hub.
4. Click the Restore button. If prompted, enter an Admin user name and password.
5. The restore process will start.
6. When it is complete, quit iPod shuffle Reset Utility and open iTunes to sync music to your iPod shuffle.

  • Ipod nano and shuffle are not recognized by my computer or itunes

When I plug in the ipod, both the nano 6th generation and the shuffle, the device is not recognized by my computer or itunes.  It will be recognized by my computer for a few seconds and then disappears.  The device will show up on the right side of the screen in itunes but not on the left.  The troubleshooter tells me it is a compatability issue.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, i have turned off the compatabilty mode, nothing works.

What displays on the iPods screen when you have it connected?  I assume you have tried another known working USB cable?
Is iTunes up do date on your PC (currently at 10.7)?

  • My iPod classic is not recognized by my computer or iTunes

My iPod is not recognized by my computer or iTunes. It worked fine a few months ago but now it doesn't even sync. I tried everything from turning it on/off, reinstalling iTunes, checking the connectivity issues and etc. After going through the connectivity test the only thing I found odd was that it said that the iPod classic running firmware 1.1.2 is not connected. Could that be the issue? And if so, how can I get that firmware running again?

I have the same issue with my ipod classic, and have gone through these steps. However, when i come to the step where it says to reinstall: "
Next, open the new version of iTunes and connect your iPod to your computer.
Select your iPod in the source list and click "Check for Update" under the Summary tab.   iTunes will check to see if your iPod needs to be updated and perform the update for you. "
there is no ipod listed in the source list to check for any updates under the summary tab. Itunes just DOES NOT see the ipod at all. And this is where I am stuck....further instructions PLEASE!!! Thank you....

I just bought a brand new Ipod Touch. I plugged it in to my computer and my computer will not recognize it but other things are recognized by the device manager. I installed and reinstalled the newest version of Itunes and it isn't recognized by my computer or Itunes. I checked the USB cables, restarted the computer, restarted the Ipod and did everything in the article iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows and it still can't be recognized!! • Older Model iPod Shuffle is not recognized on my computer or in iTunes

I had an old iPod shuffle that was a gift -- I'd never opened it. A friend hooked it up to her computer and put some songs on it. I was thrilled to finally be able to use it, but wasn't happy with the song selection. So I downloaded iTunes and loaded all my cds in there. That worked, but when I hook the shuffle up to the computer, there is no recognition of it -- at all. Not in the devices or on iTunes. What do I do?
    Thanks!

i have the same problem.. trying to get my kids older shuffle to be reconized.. so im trying to charge it up again.. any other ideas ?

  • Ipod shuffle will not be recognised by computer or itunes- help?

I recieved an ipod shuffle as a second-hand gift from my friend, but had to buy a third-party (I think) cable, as the one it came with had previously been lost. My friend had used it on several of her computers, and managed to put music on it, and it worked fine. Now, when I plug it into my laptop, it charges (green light) but doesn't connect at all. The computer doesn't even recognise that there its anything attatched. Can you help me? I really don't want to have to give it back, from the trouble that getting the cable caused, but buying another iPod and keeping the shuffle would seem greedy.
P.S. Her OS is XP, but mine is Vista. could that be something to do with it?
    ~Charlotte~

I had a very similar issue with both of my daughters' ipod shuffles. I tried a few days ago to sync up their shuffles. My computer(XP) and my laptop(Vista) would not recognize any of them.
One shuffle was bought last Christmas 2008 and the other one was bought in March of this year. I tried everything I could think of to get them to be recognized by either device.
This morning I tried something that I did not think of to do earlier. I borrowed one of my nieces original USB/charger that came with her shuffle. I plugged it up and it synced up with no problems at all. Both of my daughters managed to get their original ones either lost or chewed up by a dog, so I had to buy some third-party ones for them which worked fine the last time I actually synced them up months ago. The brands are Dynex and Belken (both still work fine for me as far as charging/syncing up my ipod touch).
I don't know if something has changed(programming?) since the last time I synced up thier shuffles. I know their has been several newer versions of Itunes since then. I have the most up-to-date version installed on my PC and laptop now. The original Apple USB/charger always works with both of the shuffles. The third-party ones I have no longer work as far as syncing up with Itunes. They will still charge the shuffles though.

  • IPod Touch is not recognized by Windows Computer or iTunes

All the USB ports are fine and the cable work perfectly. When I plug in my Ipod it shows that its charging but the computers dont do anything.
I checked devices and even fiddled with some third party softwares that might be blocking it but nothing is working.
my Ipod, Itunes, computer, and antivirus software is all up to date. I tried reseting my Ipod and computer and reinstalling Itunes.
I also uninstalled itunes removed all components and reinstalled still not recognized.
I tried a second computer and have the same issue.
Any Suggestions what to try next?

Try a different charging/docking cable.  If that does not work then you may have a problem with the docking connector in the iPod itself...

  • 1GB 1st Generation iPod Nano USB Device Not Recognized on any computer

I just recently received a free 1st generation 1GB iPod nano from a friend because they couldn't get it to work. I figured I'd take a crack at it and hopefully get a working, free iPod out of the deal...
It already had music loaded on it (mostly a bunch of garbage), so like anyone else in my position I proceeded to reformat the little sucker and wipe its slate clean.
Here is what happens when I try to connect the nano to ANY computer:
Here is how the nano shows up in device manager:
This was the original problem I was having with my desktop PC which is running Windows XP Home with SP2 and all the latest Windows updates. It is running iTunes 7.5.0.20, w/ latest iPod updater software version 1.2.3.
Prior to testing the 1st gen. 1GB iPod nano, I had been charging and syncing my 5th generation 60GB iPod classic on my desktop PC using the same exact cable. All of my USB ports are in working, functional condition and order. I even have “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” unchecked under USB Root Hub Properties.
I tried a couple different USB ports and I used another cable, no luck. So I moved on to my Fujitsu laptop running Windows Media Center Edition, all latest Windows updates, same version of iTunes and iPod software (the difference being that I DO NOT sync any iPods to it, nor do I have any music on it). SAME EXACT PROBLEM, same message bubble, same entry in device manager, and same lack of driver availability.
Thinking maybe it’s just a “PeeCee” thing I dug out my old PowerBook G4 running the ancient Mac OS 10.2. Keep in mind this thing only has a 400 MHz G4 processor, 512MB RAM, 30GB hardrive, and USB 1.1 ports. The iPod nano wouldn’t even give a hint that it existed when I plugged it in.
I have tried every single little Apple trick available. I’ve done the forced restart while connected and while not connected to the computer. I’ve done forced disk mode while connected and while not. I’ve run iTunes diagnostic tests on connected devices. I’ve messed with USB port settings. I’ve tried two different USB 2.0 iPod cables. I tested my dad’s 8GB 2nd generation iPod nano to see if it linked up with my desktop and my laptop IT DOES. I even tried my 60GB 5th gen iPod classic OVER AGAIN to see if it still worked, IT DOES.
Also, this 1st gen iPod nano will not charge when hooked to the computer through USB. When I plug it in, between the time it’s plugged in and when the “USB device recognized” bubble pops up the battery icon shows it is charging, but as soon as that bubble pops up it disappears and discontinues pretending to charge.
On my Fujitsu laptop, I uninstalled everything having to do with Apple. I uninstalled iTunes, Apple Software Update, everything. Restarting after it all of course. Then I installed the old iPod Software Updater from 6-28-2006. I was pretty sure this wouldn’t work because the iPod isn’t even recognized by the computer. In order for the iPod to work in the iPod Software Updater or iTunes it has to first be recognized at the basic Windows level. Which it isn’t…
I have done research all across the net and the only real answer I found was that the iPod Nano’s internal USB controller is dead. I’m 99% sure it has nothing to do with my laptop, desktop, USB cables, software, or drivers. What do you guys think?

Nope I have not figured anything out since I posted this. The closest answer I've found is that it's the internal USB controller which has gone bad. If that's the case than there is really nothing more I can do.
I did find one opening and that was the diagnostic screen. You get to it by holding down the Menu and Center buttons, as soon as the iPod resets hold down the Left and Center buttons, the iPod will beep and then it will go to a diagnostic screen. Maybe somewhere in there you can find the problem I don't know how to use it though.

And I plugged it in to my computer and nothing, the only thing it does is it Starts to charge for about 5 seconds...then immediately stops...What I don't understand is that my iPod Shuffle works perfectly, I plug it in, then iTunes pops up. I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.

  • My 4th generation shuffle is not recognized by 'my computer' or by Itunes', what now?

This is the second IPod shuffle I've been through with the same issue.  It's not recognized on neither Itunes or 'my computer', therefore, Im unable to load anything onto the the shuffle.  The last time this happened, those were the symptoms I experienced before the entire unit went dead.  Any idea what I'm to do next?  I couldn't possibly get 2 x defective units. Anyone?
