EA1 - Code Insight Queries and Rowcount Restrictions
I am having problems with the insight completion for columns in tables with large numbers of columns - where I pause for insight after the table alias and ., I get a list of the first 20 columns in the table. However, if the column is not in that list of 20, I then cannot seem to be able to get insight to find the column for me.
For example, where table_name has 152 columns:
select * from table_name_t t where t.
Completion lists 20 columns with a ... option at the bottom, but column_name_c is not in the list. Selecting the ... option does not do anything - I would have getting the remaining options was the logical action.
Even with t.col (first three characters of column name), the desired column is still not in the first 20 matching columns. With t.colu (first four characters), insight completion does not seem to do anything - ie no list is given.
Is this the intended behaviour? In our eBusiness Suite database, we have almost 1800 tables or views with more than 100 columns and our worst is a view with 801 columns.
theFurryOne
Double clicking the ... doesn't work like that for me - when I double click, the insight pop-up disappears and then after another delay, the same insight column list is displayed again (ie only the first 20 matching columns).
This combined with the insight pop-up not giving a list when I have the first four characters of the column name, means for me that I cannot get some columns through the insight pop-ups.

Code insight not working in sql developer 1.1.0.23
i just downloaded today. insight options all checked in preferences section. popup time set to less than a second. i get nothing to work in sql worksheet or while modifying a package body.
Hello,
You should see things from this side sometimes ;-) It's a small team, working hard, very focused! Yes, there is indeed a sense of urgency and we are testing a patch SQL Developer 1.1 at the moment. There is always the battle between wanting to get an updated release to you, the community, quickly, and delaying to ensure what you get is good.
Code insight, performance and many other issues have been addressed in this patch.
As for your other point, we want the tool to be lightweight, easy to install, easy to use with a clear user interface. Perhaps there'll be a new battle when adding features, but that's the goal.

JDeveloper 11g Preview 2 on Windows XP
Code Insight is not refreshing properly. Two use cases:
1) Light grayed out indicator that member variable is not in use in a source file does not reliably disappear if you copy and paste exact member variable name into a method;
2) Redline indicators demonstrating code syntax errors do not disppear if you correct the error. It happens with all sorts of errors after their correction: exceptions not being thrown or caught, methods not being implemented, etc...I have to shutdown JDEV process and restart to get them to go away.
Nice interface if the annoying messages would go away when fixed.It is likely a threading issue which means that it does not happen reliably -- however, next time I encounter it -- i will record my JDeveloper session and upload the recording. The amount of code is probably not feasible. However, I bet you could reproduce if you did the following things:
1) Create a couple of user libraries and import into your project;
2) Create some simple class files and use classes from imported jars;
3) create some member variables based on imported class files;
4) Use the "generate getters and setters" from member variables by placing your cursor on class file name (I notice that the default behavior is not consistent -- sometimes it shows all the getter and setter methods of every variable with 1 randomly checked --- other times none are checked -- other times all are checked) and generate;
5) continue doing this until you begin to get code insight errors to correct. Notice how the IDE begins to slow down as it appears to be processing much more in the background (also not good -- I am tempted to just turn code insight off and use the compiler);
Anyway -- stay tuned -
The code insight does not work for me. I followed the advice of Steve Muench given here:
http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2003/01/17/whyIsntMyCodeInsightWorking.html
but that did not change the problem. The problem seems to be related to new java 1.5 features. As soon as I start using generics the code insight is lost...
Any clues what is going on? I s this easy to fix?
-- example: (NOTE that iI use double (( )) to indicate generics definitions. the forum software would not let me put in the correct syntax!)
package mypackage;
import java.util.Set;
public class tester1
private Set ((Integer)) intSet = null;
public tester1()
intSet. ---- NO CODE INSIGHT POPS UP! (if i change to "private Set intSet = null;" it works)
public static void main(String[] args)
new tester1();
P.S.
Also, i noticed that the auto-import ist not working for the "Set((Integer))" line!

user444936thanks for the info.
Hmm - too bad. I may have to switch to eclipse or something then, since my project involves some 1.5 parts and the missing code insights and import features are a real pain for me.

I wish to reset my ipad (as advised by the Apple Store) to attempt to resolve an issue with a non-responsive part of the screen.. However, when I select General>Reset>Erase all content and Settings, I am prompted for a a Restrictions Passcode (which I have never set). I have now entered random codes 11 times and the ipad has not reset. How do I get past this? I am now at the point where I have to wait 60 mins before I can enter another random passcode. I just want the ipad to clear down, erase everything so I can start again.
The other option is to force iPad into Recovery Mode.

Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad -
SQLdeveloper on mac and code insight
Hi!
Just downloaded SQL developer 2.1.0.63 and running it on snow leopard. (BTW, for others out there, make sure that you unzip the file with the standard apple utility).
I cannot get code insight to work for an Oracle or a Teradata DB.
For Oracle, i type in SELECT * FROM <DB_NAME>. ctr+space and nothing happens. this is in sql worksheet and in newly created files.
BUT if i just type in SELECT, in a second it gives me select * from table autocompletion.
as for teradata, i only get autocompletion after select in newly created files, but in sql worksheet - nothing works at all.
any luck on this?when in type in select * from DBNAME.
this is what i see in the console:
*...?aux tok2?, parse time = 16
Finished parsing = 0
InsightableOracleDatabase.fetch() time = 2216
SELECT 'SCHEMA' type, username owner, username object_name, null column_name, null column_id, null data_type

and username like ?

when i do this:

i get this in console:

SELECT 'COLUMN' type, owner, table_name object_name, column_name, column_id, data_type

but in the first case - it doesn't do anything (((
This is when connected to a Oracle DB. (i just also have a teradata connection installed, but it is not connected. not sure why it appears in the console).
Please help!

Table aliases and Code Insight Completion
Oops, never mind, I see there are lots of threads on this... so the big question is: Does anyone know when this will be supported?
One thing I am noticing with the new SQL Developer is that if you use table aliases (as we do here) that Code Insight Completion doesn't work. For example, if I type the following SQL:
SELECT *
FROM My_Table mt
WHERE mt.
At the point where I put the dot (i.e. mt.) I would assume that code insight would drop down a box showing me the columns in the alias mt (i.e. My_Table). But nothing happens. Now if I put the full table name My_Table in there (i.e. WHERE My_Table.) then the drop down occurs. But not if you use a table alias - and putting the full table name in defeats the purpose of using aliases.
I know that in other SQL developers (such as PL/SQL Developer) this works fine and we are used to it working this way with aliases. Is there another way to get SQL Developer to do it this way? Or is this going to have to be a NEW feature later on?
Thanks.
Tom

Facelets and code insight for XHTML
Hi,
what about support for facelets and code insight for xhtml?
Thanks,
Uros.Hi,
actually the templating mechanism is deployable in shared libraries, which means you should be able to reuse this outside of JDeveloper with the right libraries in place. The issue we found with Facelets is with the required binding references that we need for ADF to work in templates (though this is an Oracle specific problem for as long as JSR 227 isn't turned into a J2EE standard) .
Also, templates in JDeveloper 11 are referenced at runtime, which means they can be changed on the fly even after deployment and all pages will reflect them. Plus, you don't need to configure a new extension and filter to your JSF files/configuration making it more straight forward.
And yes, it can be deployed to other J2EE containers than Oracle- Not sure what the open source plans are, but I'll point someone from our Trinidad supporters to this thread to shed some light on what the Trinidad community has in the plans.
Your point for a common templating support is well taken (though I wished there would be something better than Facelets ;-) )

Code Insight and mixed case PL/SQL identifiers
Let’s assume I hava a package “Test” with a procedure “DoSomeReallyHardWork”.
I would like code insight to complete a call of this procedure and preserve the original case.
I don’t like “test.dosomereallyhardwork” and I strongly dislike “TEST.DOSOMEREALLYHARDWORK".
Is there any way to achive this kind case preservation?
I recompiled my code with PL/Scope turned on, but it seems that all identifiers are stored in uppercase. Bug or feature?The identifiers are case insensitve, so your code could as easily read
create or replace procedure TestProc is
ThisVarHasNoMeaning varchar2(100);
begin
ThisVarHasNoMeaning := 'Test';
THISVARHASNOMEANING := 'Other';
end TestProc
You only have one identifier, but can have multiple capitalizations. While it would be nice if the declaration was the 'definitive' one, it looks like they've gone the easy route and uppercased them all for consistency.
If you used _ (the This_Var) in your variable names, at least you could use initcap to pretty them up. -
Code insight and possible side effects
Hi,
I'm using SQL Developer 1.2 on MacOSX 10.4.9 (MacBook Pro) and noticed the following problems:
In SQL Worksheet, start typing a query and use the shortcut for code insight ie: "SELECT * FROM SCHEMA.EMPL":
Nothing happens, no completion popup is displayed (first problem)
Hit backspace to correct the table name : the backspace is disabled (second problem) as other keys (already mentionned in the forum).
Load presets from preferences: keys are now working again (... except code insight)

Code Insight and Fedora Core 2
Hi,
Code insight doesn't seem to work on my FC2 system. Does anyone know how to fix it ?
LeightonOne or more of the following steps makes it work: ( Our system is Fedora Core 2 / KDE 3.3.0 / Java 1.4.2_04 / kernel 2.6.5 / AMD Duron 1800+ / 512MB RAM + 1GB cache )
1. upgrade to kernel 2.6.9-rc3 ( not likely to be relevant )
2. upgrade to Java 1.4.2_05 and configure JDeveloper for this library
3. make it a system library
4. turn of IPv6 lookups in KDE ( set env var KDE_NO_IPV6=true )

Report Queries and Report Layout
Hello,
I currently have several report queries with existing report layouts done in xsl.fo. I will be upgrading to Apex 4.0 in the next couple of months and I wanted to make sure that my reports will still work. I have an account on the Oracle hosted site and created a report query with an xsl.fo file.
I understand that it requires the fop.war file to run on the server for it to work, but I have used the oracle hosted site before and was able to create report queries and custom report layouts.
I am using an xsl fo editor called javaforless, which creates the .fo file and then I make adjustments to the file, before I create the report query and then load the file when I am creating the query.
The report works correctly if I use the generic layout, but I have many reports with custom layouts that will be going to Apex 4.0 and I want to ensure that they will still work. Please look at the error below and give me some insight to why this is happening:
Error opening document. This file cannot be opened because it has no page.Thanks,
MaryIs there a bug on the Oracle hosted site for reports.
I was able to run a report query with a cutsom report file (xsl.fo) on the hosted site. The file didn't throw any errors, though I don't understand why it doesn't. I had to create a blank field to have a border, which creates my lines in apex. code below:
<fo:table-cell number-columns-spanned="1">

</fo:table-cell>My original code uses the fo:leader, which works fine in Apex 3.2 but will throw errors if I use it in 4.0.2 and not open the file.
<fo:table-row background-color="#ffffff" height="0.89cm">
<fo:table-cell number-columns-spanned="2">
<fo:block margin-left="0.0cm" margin-right="0.0cm" margin-top="0.27cm" ><fo:leader leader-pattern="rule" color="#000000" rule-thickness="2.0pt" rule-style="solid" leader-length="100%"/></fo:block>

Edited by: user12031606 on 07.05.2010 2:32Hi,
Welcome to the forum!
Whenever you post code, format it to show the extent of sub-queries, and the clauses in each one.
Type these 6 characters:
\(all small letters, inside curly brackets) before and after each section of formatted test; if you don't, this site will compress the spaces.
It also helps it you reduce your query as much as possible. For example, I think you're only asking about the sub-query called caloc, so just post caloc as if that were the entire query:select ( select CIRCUIT_ID
from cid
) as CIRCUIT_ID,
( select sl.name
from nc_objects sl
join nc_references scr on sl.object_id = scr.reference
where scr.attr_id = 3090562190013347600
and scr.object_id = sc.object_id
) as ALOCATION
from sc
This makes it much cleared that the query will produce 2 columns, called circuit_id and alocation.
Compare the query above with the query below:SELECT object_id,
'Okay'
FROM sc
The basic structure is the same: both queries produce two columns, and both queries produce one row of output for every row that is in the sc table.
The only difference is the two items in the SELECT clause.
The second query has a column from the table as its first column, and a literal for its second column; those are just two of the kinds of things you can have in a SELECT clause. another thing you can have there is a +Scalar Sub-Query+ , a complete query enclosed in parentheses that produces exactly one column and at most one row. If a scalar sub-query produces more than one row, then you get the run-time error: "ORA-01427: single-row subquery returns more than one row", as you did.
A scalar sub-query always takes the place of a single value: "scalar" means "having only one value". In the first example above, the main query is supposed to produce one row of output for every row in sc. How can it do that if some of the columns themselves contain multiple rows?
I don't know what your tables are like, or what output yu want to get from thiose tables.
If you'd like help getting certain results from your tables, then post CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements for a little sample data, and the resutls you want to get from that sample data. A scalar sub-query may help getting those results, or it may not.
