Eapolclient debugging in leopard - howto?

Hello,
I am really racking my brains over this one. We have a macbook running 10.5.6 (it's our first) and trying to get it to work on the corporate network.
Wired and wireless require 802.1x (EAP + TLS).
I have the certificates installed and tcpdump shows that the EAP communication is progressing and then.. it just stops and we get a failure from the Cisco device.
I need to put eapolclient into debug mode or somesuch so that I can get more details on what exactly is happening. I created /var/log/eapoclient/ directory but only very very very minimal logging is getting into the logfiles that are being created there. By minimal, I mean "one line" indicating a failure.
Please help! How do I debug 802.1x auth on MacOSX? How do I get eap/tls to work with leopard?
Thanks & Cheers,

I am also working on getting 802.1x (EAP + TLS) working with a system profile. The issue we are facing is that the eapolclient does not have access to the private key in the system keychain. The current workaround I have found is to manually add the eapolclient to the access control application list for the private key of the certificate. In addition, to add eapolclient you must extract it temporarily from the EAPOLController.bundle, located in /System/Library/SystemConfiguration.

  • Request: update Tomcat debugging howto

Could someone from oracle please consider updating the howto for debugging tomcat from JDeveloper (ref help topic "Using JPDA with TomCat for Servlet Debugging")? As near as I can tell, the examples reference an older version of tomcat and the config file are different from what they currently are.
In the mean time, is it possible to get the JDeveloper integrated web server to reload modified jsp's? It is a painstaking process to restart the oracle's web server when developing jsp's.
    Thanks

  • Can't debug in XCode 3.1 on Leopard

    Hi
I'm having some trouble getting the debugger working in XCode 3.1 on Leopard (10.5.2) running on a 1st gen MacBook. I can still run the program, just not debug it. This happens across all my projects.
Same code debugs fine on Tiger, anyway here is what the run log says:
    <paste>
    Loading program into debugger…

This GDB was configured as "i386-apple-darwin".
    tty /dev/ttys000
    Program loaded.
    sharedlibrary apply-load-rules all
    run
[Switching to process 392 local thread 0x2f13]
/bin/bash: line 0: exec: arch: not found
    </paste>
That last line seems to be the problem, but I don't know where that code runs. It sounds like it is a shell script of some sort that bails on the first line.
Running arch from the terminal outputs i386, which seems correct.
The program then just hangs and apparently does nothing, and the only way to exit is by clicking the stop sign.
My base SDK is 10.4, I've googled this problem without success.
    Has anyone seen this before?
Any input at all would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alexander

After googling some more I came across this:

    There Jim Ingham writes:

You can get gdb to avoid the use of arch altogether by making a file
called .gdbinit in your home directory, and put:
    set start-with-shell 0
...and that did the trick for me!
I'm now able to debug again, so I'm marking this as solved.

  • Snow Leopard Freezing showing GPU Debug in Console

I recently updated my iMac from Leopard to Snow Leopard and it began to freeze.  I have reset PRAM, SMC, fixed the fonts and looked for anything suspicious in the console.  When it freezes there is no obvious crash.  It freezes in Safari, Finder and even in Console.  The mouse moves, but I cannot do anything.  Last freeze shows the time machine icon in mid spin.  Console reports npvhash=4095 then GPU Debug info start and hundreds of lines of information.  I had this happen on an older machine and the video card was failing.
There is so much chatter about this being related to Snow Leopard, I am wondering if I upgrade to Lion it will all go away?!?
How can I tell if indeed the video card is bad?  It is out of warranty and I would like to do as much trouble shooting on my own as I can before, I take it in.
We did not see quite the same behavior in Leopard.  Just endless beachball spinning and a few forced restarts.  I figured a good clean out of caches, etc would solve the problem along with an OS update.
Thanks for any help and advice in advance,
    Debbie

This is what Safe Mode is.
In particular what let your computer run normally in this situation is that many of the kernel extensions (aka drivers) are not loaded.
That also means that your Mac is not running at its best performances.
The good news is that at least runs.
I don't know how much this can help in determine the culprit, but have you run Apple Hardware Test?
The first Mac OS X Install Disc that came with your iMac, also contains the Apple diagnostic.
Insert the disc. Turn on the computer, and press D until the diags starts. Follow the on screen instructions to run the tests.
A brief note before ending this post.
Yesterday evening I was watching a streaming video in Google Chrome. When I installed Lion, I purposely didn't install Adobe Flash Player. So I use Google Chrome that has Flash Player incorporated inside the program itself to display internet sites with Flash contents.
After about twenty minutes the screen freezed. The mouse cursor turned into the "spinning beachball of death". The audio continued to play normally.
The /var/log/kernel.log file, uncovered the usual bunch of lines relating to the GPU

About your question, "What I am going to do".
Well. As I wrote, this issue is not so frequent in my case. Also I planned to buy a new iMac next year around march.
But I sincerely hope next Lion update (10.7.3) could patch this misbehaver.

  • Howto Debug Requirements Output control routine?

    Hi!
I want to do the following: I got an Invoice and I want to print an invoice form so I created a message (KSCHL) that shall be found under certain circumstances.
    It looks like that:
    FORM KOBED_663.
      BREAK-POINT id  Y_KOBE_663. "Transaction SAAB
    * infinite loop - trick for debugging
      data lv_infinite type c.
      lv_infinite = 'X'.
      while lv_infinite = 'X' .
    *      infinite loop
      endwhile.
    *Check requirement 662 first
      PERFORM kobed_662.
      IF sy-subrc = 0. "if requirement 662 is fulfilled
    * do some more checking...
        DATA lv_ktokd TYPE ktokd.
        CLEAR lv_ktokd.
SELECT SINGLE ktokd FROM kna1 INTO lv_ktokd WHERE kunnr = komkbv3-kunrg.
        IF lv_ktokd <> '0003'.
sy-subrc = 4. "requirement not fullfilled... dont find the message!
        ENDIF.
      ENDIF.
    ENDFORM.
    FORM KOBEV_663.
Now I got a invoice with no messages within it and I try to debug it because I get my new Print out even in cases I should not because requirement 663 is not fullfilled.
I made a checkpoint with transaction SAAB, I made an infinite Loop to debug with SM50 and of course I had variours and numerous breakpoints all over and everywhere. But I never stopped within KOBEV_663. Of course I got also the KOBED_663 with identical code and identical "debug"-stuff.
When I try with my invoice and VF02 going to the messages then my message is found but I did not stop in the kobev_663.
Question: What do I have to do to debug this? it lookes like the rule is not even checked at all. But in customizing the rule is there (and active of course).
I also tried logging kompletely off with /NEX and I even cleared all buffers with /$sync (its not the prod. system of course).
Please help me, I have no further idea.
    Manfred

    Hi!
First of all: thanks for your great Help! I tried all of your hints and thats the result (maybe someone with my problem comes across this thread).
@Naimesh Patel: My problem was that the message was found and I wanted to debug the requirement because I was sure, that the message not even should have been found because of not matching the requirement. I did not want to debug the process that creates the message like the print program... but in one point your Post was vital for me: RV80HGEN was missing.
@Uwe Schieferstein: Unfortunately I dont have LOG-POINTS... maybe my release is too old... I have only 640 here. The Link you posted is of course very interesting! Thanks for that.
@Rohan Leonce D'souza: Setting--> Update debugging... that was necessary! With that in combination of the RV80HGEN I think it stopped even at my Break-Point ID... to be secure I had your idea with the break USER in addition within the code.
Now I have the pain to grant forum points... I cant split them unfortunately. Only the combination of several Posts was my solution. But Thanks to all of you!

  • Howto debug a console application

    Hi all,
Our application expects user input through console I/O at several points of execution.
While running the app in debug mode all outpu t is directed to JDevelopers Message View which doesn't allow any user input.
    Any ideas ?
    TIA,
    Chris

Are you using JDK 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3? If using JDK 1.1, go to the Run/Debug panel of the Project Properties and change the debug output to "Console Window."
If you are using JDK 1.2/1.3, want you can do is to launch the application in debug mode and then connect to it with JDev using remote debugging.
If using OJVM (default) with JDK 1.2/1.3, run your application with the extra "-XXdebug" (i.e., java -XXdebug ...). This will start the your application (debuggee) in debug mode on port 4000. Change your Run/Debug type to "Remote Debugging", set your breakpoints, then hit Debug to connect to the debuggee.
If using Classic (JPDA), check the JDev documentation on how to start a Classic debugee in debug mode and repeat the steps starting from setting the Run/Debug to "Remote Debugging" (but choose JPDA instead of OJVM.)
We realize this isn't ideal, and are looking into how to fix this for future versions of JDev.

    Holy Moly!
Your'e answer is really for those kids with no experience in a terminal.
The command line is only for pro users and should no be used by any DAU. Therefore no problem at all with "rm -rf" if you have changed into the correct directory first.
One suggetion is adding these lines to your "~/.profile"
    TERM=xterm-color
    # colors for misc things
    export TERM=xterm-color
    export GREP_OPTIONS='--color=auto' GREP_COLOR='1;32'
    export CLICOLOR=1
    # Set colors
    export LS_COLORS='di=1;36:fi=0:ln=4;34:pi=5:so=4;5:bd=5:cd=5:or=4;91:mi=4;92:ex=35:*.r b=90'
    alias rm="rm -i"
    alias cp="cp -i"
    PS1="(\u) \[\033[01;31m\]\h\[\033[01;34m\] [\w]# \[\033[00m\]"
    Than do a
    # source .profile
at the terminal prompt in order to active the settings immediatelly.
Now the "rm" command will always ask before deleting any file or folder.
Unfortunately if you like to delete a folder containing other folders with several files inside you will go mad!
    One possible intermediate solution is
    # unalias rm; rm -rf ./System/Library/Caches/com.apple.*; alias rm="rm -i"
But as mentioned before, if you have "sweaty fingers" while typing in Unix commands you should better stay away from the terminal.

  • Snow Leopard and Novell Netware Edirectory Howto

    Hello all,
I've spent the last few weeks piecing together an OS X / Edirectory setup from several documents I've found online and lots of help from users on this and the Netware forums.
From this I've put together a preliminary HOWTO document that I hope will be useful to others fighting this battle. I've also included my complete Apple schema LDIF and my Edirectory LDAP mappings plist file for use as an OS X Directory Utility template.
I hope these things help guide others through the headaches and hopefully it helps make more sense out of the process. Thanks to those of you who have helped me figure out the problems along the way.
If you have any suggestions for this document or the attached files, please let me know. I hope to update it more as I add more Macs to our Novell network and learn more Enjoy!
    http://www.nerdnet.com/?q=node/88
    Cheers,

A long winded post deserves a long winded reply! Are you serving the home directories from Novell's AFP file server? If not -- if you're serving them from a Mac server -- then nevermind all this.
If so, you may need to create a generic mount object in your eDirectory tree (not an AppleShare object -- I've never been able to get that working)
Get Properties of the mount object and, under the "Other" tab (I'm assuming you're using ConslowOne) add the following attributes: values (or whatever variations of them are appropriate for you)
    apple-mountDirectory: /Network/Servers
    apple-mountOption: net
    apple-mountOption: url==afp://;AUTH=NO%20USER%[email protected]/staff-network-drive
(yes, apple-mountOption gets two values! i just wrote the attribute twice for clarity)
    apple-mountType: url
Once I had this in place I still had to do some fiddling with how to specify the home directory for each user. I settled on
    OSX Home: /Network/Servers/10.9.7.11/student-network-drive/Users/stevejobs
(you would put this in apple-user-homeDirectory, not OSX Home. We just mapped things a little differently.)
    apple-user-homeurl: <homedir><url>afp://10.9.7.11/student-network-drive</url><path>Users/stevejobs</path> </homedir>
Note how we have Users/stevejobs in the path section. This is different than how Workgroup Manager will save it, even though it will appear to be the same path if you look at it in WGM (thanks, apple.) Unfortunately the way WGM saves it doesn't work (at least, I couldn't get it to) so you can't use WGM to assign this attribute. I ended up writing a shell script to do it.
Hope that helps. If you want the shell script, I can probably dig it up but make sure you know what you're doing with it. It is tailored to our system and I didn't bother writing any exception handling, so it could very well nuke your system, call you names and eat your dog.

  • Howto about how install Java J2EE on MacOS Leopard ???

    Hi
Does anybody knows how i can install java j2EE on Mac OS Leopard???
And for example, if my computer have and old version of java, what are the steps that i need to do for update to the latest version?
I hope somebody knows, and thanks so much !!

There are many versions of [Java EE|http://java.sun.com/javaee/] (formerly known as J2EE) and many implementations of each version of JEE. If you're just using it to learn and have no other political, customer, management, or other requirements to worry about, I recommend using the [GlassFish JEE server|https://glassfish.dev.java.net/], which is [Java EE 5|http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/JavaEETutorial.pdf] compliant. I have not installed GlassFish on a Mac, but the post [GlassFish on Mac OS 10.5 Leopard|http://blog.ejeklint.se/2008/02/15/glassfish-on-mac-os-105-leopard/] looks useful. The [download page|http://java.sun.com/javaee/downloads/index.jsp] will even let you download the GlassFish implementation along with a new JDK (Java SE).

  • Dual-boot OS9 and Leopard on a MDD howto??

    Hi
If I start with a Leopard DVD, an OS 9 CD, a new unformatted HDD, and a non-FW800 MDD, how to I install it all to dual boot off one partition?
I have not worked with this stuff in a few years so I am a bit vague and appreciate the help from the community. It is a dual-CPU 1.0 GHz, not FW800, and should support this dual-boot setup.
    Thanks

It will be hard to find the cd for mac os 9 for this machine.  The mactracker database indicated the machine requires 9.2.2.  I'm not sure if 9.2.2 was ever sold as a stand-alone cd.  There is a possiblity that even if you found mac os 9.2.2, the mdd could have specific drives that might not be on the a full install copy of mdd. There is a fuzzyness over the meaning of 9.2.2, It was the closes OS at the time of ship.  For the full install cd, you best get a point release greater than the release at the time of ship.
Should you be able to find and correctly identify the grey machine restore cds they would work.
Another possiblity which I haven't tried but you could always try is to get another g4 and instll 9.x on it then upgrade to 9.2.2. Take out the hd & place it in your mdd.  You never know if this would work unless you try.
Some people seem to know the numbers on the cd for each machine.
The cd number might be 6c155 see blow in image
If you buying this, get a full install 9.2.2 or a machine specific cd & try before you buy.  Some machine might have 9.2.2 on them. If they have a working 9.2.2 on the machine ::: Do not erase it.  Get a backup external drive and back everything up.  If it works & you need it, do not erase.  Buy another dirve.
get the mactracker app so you can look for other machines.
the apple pi apple hobbie clubs might have cds.

  • [CS2, windows, VC2005] howto create debug build

    hi guys,
i've created a new project from scratch and have set all the settings from one of the sample plugins' debug configuration.
when i start the indesign cs2 4.0.5 debug version, it tells me that my plugin needs the release version.
i'm sure i just forgot one setting or define or whatever - can anyone tell me how indesign distinguishes debug versions from release versions?
    best regards

    hi manfred,
nope, thats not the point. i've compiled the basicdialog sample and that works in debug and release version.
    thanks anyway.

  • How do I tweak Snow Leopard (Finder & Safari) to make it behave more like Tiger?

I've recently upgraded to a Mac Pro 4,1 from a Power Mac G4, and to Mac OS X 10.6.8 from 10.4.11 in the process.
There are a few little ways in which Snow Leopard behaves differently to Tiger, and I'm wondering if (for each item on the list below) anyone has any suggestions on how I can make things behave as I'd like, rather than as they do.
While I'm at it, I've included a couple of things that never behaved as I'd like in Tiger either, but which may also be alterable.
I'd prefer, if possible, solutions that result from simple changes in settings, or perhaps "sudo" commands entered into Terminal, rather than having to install third party software.
Also, I'd appreciate those that choose to reply refrain from suggesting I upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion. These aren't options I can consider at the moment.
    1. In the Finder, clicking Go -> Recent Folders gives the 10 most recently opened folders. Is there a way to change this number?
There isn't an option to do this in the "Appearance" preference pane, where "Number of recent items" can be set for "Applications", "Documents" and "Servers". There's also no option to alter the number of "Recent Folders" in any other preference pane that I can see. I've posted a similar list of questions over at the Macrumors forums, where the one reply I've had so far suggested I use the "General" preference pane, however I don't have one of these. I think "General" was possibly a pane in a much earlier version of Mac OS X?
    2. In the Finder, folders on the desktop often don't deselect the way they always did in Tiger. For example, if I double click a folder to open it, the folder's icon highlights. The folder often doesn't deselect / unhighlight though when I then click on the desktop or elsewhere. It often takes 2 or 3 additional clicks for the icon to deselect. Is this a known bug, and can it be fixed? The reply in the Macrumors forum says "It's a known bug, it's even worse in Mountain Lion.".
    3. In the Finder, under Preferences, I have "Always open folders in a new window" checked, as I prefer. Often though, I like to hold down the "alt" key when double clicking on a folder to open it, so that the enclosing folder closes at the same time as the folder I'm double clicking on opens, thereby overriding the preference I've set.
In Tiger, the newly opening folder would always open at its previously set size & position. In Snow Leopard though, using the "alt" key causes the newly opening folder to open at the size & position of its enclosing folder instead, not at its previously set size & position.
Worse, the folder then seems to "remember" this incorrect size & position which it takes from its enclosing folder, wiping out its previous (correct) size & position. Is there any way to make things behave like they did in Tiger?
The reply in the Macrumors forum suggested I try "alt - command", but this makes things behave identically to "alt" on its own, as does using "command" on its own.
Only when I don't use any modifier key does the opening window open at its correct size & position, but then without any modifier, the enclosing window remains open (as per my Finder preference selection), and its this preference that I often want to override, but with the newly opening window's correct size & position being maintained.
    4. In Safari (version 4.1.3) under Tiger, the "Command-`" keyboard shortcut (that's Command and the key to the left of the "z" key) cycles through each open Safari window in turn, before returning to the original window.
However in Safari (version 5.1.7) on Snow Leopard, this keyboard shortcut seems to work very erratically. For example if I have, say, 8 windows open, the shortcut might only rotate through the 2 or 3 frontmost windows over & over again, rather than through all 8 in order. It might take 5 or 6 cycles of attempts before the rest of the windows appear at the front of the stack. This fault seems to be intermittent though. Is this a known bug, and can it be fixed?
    5. When I press "Command-f" in the Finder, a search window opens. I'm having 2 problems with the search window.
Firstly, directly below the field where the search term is to be typed, is the word "Search:" with a row of only 2 buttons to the right. The first is labelled "This Mac" and the second is labelled with the name of the folder that I have set the "New Finder windows open:" preference to in Finder Preferences.
I can't find any way of adding any further locations to this row of only 2 buttons. For example, "Macintosh HD" is in my sidebar, but I can't drag it to the row of buttons to create a new "Macintosh HD" button, nor can I find any other way to make the search only look in specific places (such as only on the "Macintosh HD" disk). I'm stuck with either "This Mac" or with the folder that I've set the "New Finder windows open:" preference to.
How can I select where I want a search to take place? I could do this in Tiger with a couple of mouse clicks.
Secondly, to the right of the 2 search location buttons is a small vertical bar, and then 2 further buttons, labelled "Contents" and "File Name". The "Contents" button is always selected by default. How can I make the "File Name" button the default rather than the "Contents" button?
Many thanks in advance for any input anyone has.

    1. In the Finder, clicking Go -> Recent Folders gives the 10 most recently opened folders. Is there a way to change this number?
AFAIK, there's no default setting to change that. Take a look at defaults for Finder.
AFAIK, that's normal behavior. The folder opens and gets focus. To return to the Desktop requires a click to gain focus and the click the Desktop to deselect anything previously selected.
Still works that way here in SL.
In Tiger, the newly opening folder would always open at its previously set size & position. In Snow Leopard though, using the "alt" key causes the newly opening folder to open at the size & position of its enclosing folder instead, not at its previously set size & position.

Nope. You're in the minority, so Apple changed it, since more wanted it that way than the old Tiger way.
    4. In Safari (version 4.1.3) under Tiger, the "Command-`" keyboard shortcut (that's Command and the key to the left of the "z" key) cycles through each open Safari window in turn, before returning to the original window.
Can't help, since I normally only use one window and many tabs. Also, I don't see that shortcut. Enable the Debug menu option and peruse Debug->Keyboard & Mouse Shortcuts.

Not possible. Apple's crippled Spotlight as it's brought the OSs forward. Best is to start your search in the folder you want to search. See Snow Leopard's wrong changes, for starters.
Secondly, to the right of the 2 search location buttons is a small vertical bar, and then 2 further buttons, labelled "Contents" and "File Name". The "Contents" button is always selected by default. How can I make the "File Name" button the default rather than the "Contents" button?
Use CMD+SHIFT+F. Ultimately, I strongly suggest creating a savedSearch with your desired criteria and use it, bypassing CMD+spacebar and CMD+F. This is what I use:

I created an iDVD pane in 16:9 but when I play the movie in the iDVD preview window the iDVD pane switches to 4:3 and it burns the DVD in 4:3. How can I stop this so I get a16:9 DVD. Hi
As I see this I see two parts
    • Howto go from FinalCut to iDVD
    • Howto set iDVD right
In FinalCut Express (to 4) or Pro (to 6 - most probably 7 too)
    • One has to set Anamorphic in the Browser window - menu columns
    • Export as QuickTime movie .mov - NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION
In iDVD there are TWO places to set - WideScreen
    - Start a NEW iDVD project - AND HERE SELECT WideScreen 16:9
    - in Project - select Projectinfo
    - now set WideScreen 16:9 - Here too
This use to work for me.
    FOR FinalCut Pro-X - I have not a Clue - as I don't use it. SORRY
BTW - There is a good practice to before BURNING the DVD do
    • Save as a DiskImage
    • Test this by using DVD-Player tool
And if it is OK Size and All - then burn it by using
    • Disk Util tool
    • here set down burn speed to x4 or less (less burn errors = plays on more devices and better)
    • Not using Memorex or NoName etc cheap media - as they usually DO NOT WORK as Video-DVDs
    • I use Verbatim DVD-R as they play on more and even older DVD-players
