EAS 9.3.1 on Windows 2003 64 bit (Xeon) issues

Has anyone successfully installed and configured EAS 931 on a Xeon based system running Server 2003 64 bit? I can install but when i try to configure the app server it bombs out with errors about not being able to load 32bit.dll on a 64 bit server. I swear past clients have used EAS in a 64 bit environment but i dont recall if they were Xeon or Itanium. I only see a 64 bit version of EAS for Itanum, not for x64. This is killing me.

Hmm, the issue now is that once essbase is installed, you can't redeploy EAS or APS if they're on the same server. i can't figure out where in the config process i should look to change a path or what not so EAS and APS deploy properly. I think EAS/APS need to be on a different server at this point.

  • Oracle 9i and windows 2003 R2 installation issues

    Hi All,
I have a windows 2003 R2 server with oracle 9.2.0.8 installed both OS and DB are 32bit. The server has 12gb ram and I therefore use AWE and /PAE, however when ever the number of connections exceeds >60 memory errors start to appear and sessions crash. Has anyone out there carried out a successful install of 9i and windows 2003 R2. Can anyone help with the resolution of these issues.
    regards
    Alan

    some more information
I’ve just restarted the server with its full quota of 16GB of RAM and selected both boot.ini switches (/PAE and /3GB) at server startup. I then amended the dbblock_lru_latches parameter from 128 to 64. Before I even started the database I tried running ‘ipconfig /all’ at the command prompt with the following result:
    D:\Oracle>ipconfig /all
    Windows IP Configuration
An internal error occurred: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.
is it windows causing these issues?

  • IMac connected to a Windows 2003 Server: Authentication Issue

Hi. I was wondering if anyone in the community might have found a solution for this problem or could offer suggestions.
In our in-house corporate graphics department we are connecting three recently purchased iMacs to a Windows Server 2003 file server. We copy files over to the network to share with one another and for backup purposes. Everything was working fine until...the IT guys upgraded to new file server hardware and installed Windows Server 2003 onto it (they claim it's the exact same version of the Server OS as was used before). Now the iMacs cannot copy files to the network drive. The system displays a message that we do not have sufficient permission to change "folder name". I have checked "Get Info" on the file and/or folder and I'm not listed as someone having access to the item. I add myself but my name does not show up in the list. The exact same problem is occurring with all three iMacs. We can log-on to the iMac just fine--connecting to our corporate user account stored on the server (we're not logging on to a local account). All of our user accounts allow us to administer the iMacs. The PowerMac G5s in our department are unaffected by this glitch. This leads us to believe it's some combination between the Windows Server software and the iMacs. Any one have any ideas? Our IT guys don't know Macs. They are trying, but not making any progress. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Greg

Hi BH. Here's our IT Manager's response:
    "Greg,
I hear the change worked. This is an issue because what I essentially did was give you access to change permissions on the file server. What that tells me is that your Mac wants to copy it’s local permissions to the file server. That is a bit of an issue. Since Zach was able to copy over files under his login I have a feeling that you may have set a security setting on under your user profile that tell the OS to copy it’s local permissions to the SMB server. Can you think of anything along those lines that may be set? Did you alter the local permission on your folders in any way? I double checked the old file server had the same exact settings as the new file server up until just now."
Once the permissions issue arose (the morning after they installed the new Server) I selected my network folder and checked the permission settings under "Get Info." I did not see my name as someone having access to the folder so I attempted to add myself, but my name never appeared in the list. Do you think my attempt to add myself created the issue described above? They keep assuring me that the server settings are exactly the same on the new server as the old one. I have no choice but to take their word that they have checked everything that could be a variable on the two servers because I can't check myself.
Does the IT manager's response spark any ideas?
Thanks for your time and thoughts on this issue.

  • Itunes 10.1.1 for Windows 64 bit launching issue

Trying a clean install of itunes on Windows 7 64 bit machine. It downloads and seems to install okay. Launch program and it looks like nothing happens. Check running services and it appears there. Tried uninstalling, removing and re-installing everything per Apple support and same thing. Quicktime launches fine. Installed and running on account with Administrator privileges. Wanted to give this laptop to my daughter all ready to go for Christmas. Any ideas would be really appreciated. TIA

Launch program and it looks like nothing happens. Check running services and it appears there. Tried uninstalling, removing and re-installing everything per Apple support and same thing. Quicktime launches fine.
Excellent info thanks, julie. That's ruled out a bunch of things already.
Checking now on one further common cause of error-message-free itunes launch failures in recent times.
Try (by way of experiment) disabling the BonJour Service.
In your Start Menu, right-click Computer and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services & Applications".
Open "Services". (Maximise the window to better see what's going on.)
Right-click the BonJour Service and select "Properties". In the "General" tab, set Start-up type to "Disabled".
Restart the PC, and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch this time?
If iTunes launches with the BonJour Service disabled, by any chance do you have a recent version of IOBit's Advanced SystemCare utility currently installed on the PC? If so, try uninstalling and reinstalling Advanced SystemCare. Can you launch iTunes without having to disable the BonJour Service now?

  • Data pump and SGA, system memory in window 2003

    Hi Experts,
I have a question for oracle 10g data pump. Based on oracle document,
all data pump ".dmp" and ".log" files are created on the Oracle server, not the client machine.
That means data pump need to used oracle server SGA or other system memory. is it true?
Or data pump must be support by oracle server memory?
we use oracle 10 G R4 in 32 bit window 2003 with memory issue. So we take care this point.
at the present, we use exp to do exp job. we DB size is 280 G. SGA is 2G in window.
for testing, i can saw data pump message in alert file. I does not saw taht a export job broken DB and data replication job.
Does any experts have this point experience?
    Thanks,

  • VPN client using CLI on windows 2003 server

Hello, first time poster here. Have an interesting issue I'm hoping to find help with.
I'm using the VPN client (I have version 4.8.01.0300) in CLI mode (called from a script) to connect to a remote site. Got the connection setup and all working fine except for one small detail. Hopefully I can explain this well...
I want this connection to run fully unattended as it will run numerous times per day, every day. The issue is the little pop-up message saying "VPN has disconnected".
When I first setup the connection, it was on windows XP and everything was golden. I could issue the command : vpnclient connect <name> user <userid> pwd <passwd> sd, <other stuff>, vpnclient disconnect and all worked as expected.
Then I installed same stuff on Windows 2003 server. Issuing same connect command gives error: "user authentication failed". Then I discovered that if I first launched the vpn client GUI then the CLI command, it would connect without error - but then the "disconnected" pop-up window came along.
    So - can I either:
    - Run vpn client in CLI mode without the GUI running.
    - Suppress the pop-up.
    Thanks in advance.
    Scott

    Hi,
    Thank you for the post.
Please try register MSI installer or clean boot your system to install FEP client.
Registered MSI Installer following the steps below:
1.Run "cmd"--Browse to the "%systemroot%\system32" directory and execute: "msiexec /regserver"
2.Change directories to "%systemroot%\SysWow64" and execute: "msiexec /regserver"

  • Essbase 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server: Windows Virtual cache/ Paging File ?

    Hi,
the speed of our nightly calculations seems to differ from day to day between 1 and 2 hours
I am wondering, what the correct setting for the windows paging file is ?
We use Windows 2003 64 Bit Server with 16 GB RAM
We run 1 Essbase application with 80 GB pag files with 4 GB Data Cache Setting and 1 GB Indexcache Setting in EAS console - on that server is actually nothing else running in production mode (just a few essbase-test application, usually offline)
what is the recommended setting on the windows level in the windows system properties for memory usage ?
    We have:
    Memory Usage: Adjust for best performance of "Programs" ;
Virtual Memory/Paging file on C-Drive: Custom Size, initial Size: 10 GB, maximum size 16 GB
when system was handed over from Oracle, we had 4 GB virtual memory - however in essbase manual, you read that the recommended value should be 3-5 times the physicial ram -
for me, the cache-bevahiour is strange anyway: if I watch taskmanager, I see in the middle of our 1 hour calculation the memory usage of Esssvr.exe Service using 7 GB of RAM, then the 16 GB RAM are used up at some point (paging file is 9 GB )- then suddenly nearly all the RAM get's cleared and ESSSVR.exe memory consumption goes down to 0 and from 0 increasing again-
looks to me, as all the cache for essbase get's deleted in the miiddle of the calculation, because RAM used up for paging files ?
Can anybody explain or give a clear directions, what to check ?
our application operates normally (no abnormal termination, no generation of *.xcp files)
(Essbase is installed on the 500 GB D-Drive)

    Hi John,
thanks for the helpful link - the long discussion reminded me again, that pure cores and cache is not all, what makes up a good essbase application -
I will test with calcparallel 6 (in comparison to 4) on our 64bit environment - just to see if I can achieve a 10, 20 or 30% improvement...
In addition, I must admit, that 50% of our 1-2 hour calculation is calculated in serial/ not parallel... so I expect an additional 5 to 10 min improvement, not more.
    Thank you for now

  • Essbase 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server: recomm. Hardware for Calcparallel ?

    Hi,
1 year ago, we migrated to system 9.3.1 for Hyperion Planning - as usual, this includes Workspace, Financial Reporting, Financial Analysis, SmartView, Shared Services...
everything is running well on acceptable speed and in general 2-3 times faster than our old environment- essbase 7, planning 4 on (HP DL580 G3 windows 2003 32 bit servers, with each 4 Xeon monocores @3 Ghz)
we decided 1 year ago for 3 windows servers, each with 2 Xeon quattro-cores (=8 cores @ 3.0 Ghz)
    1st server Financial Reporting + Workspace (Windows Server 2003 SP2, HP Proliant BL460C G1 with 2x Quattrocore Xeon E5450 3.0 Ghz) 8 GB RAM
2nd Server Planning+Shared Services (Windows Server 2003 SP2, HP Proliant BL460C G1 with 2x Quattrocore Xeon E5450 3.0 Ghz) 4 GB RAM (8 GB would have been better)
    3rd Server 64 Bit Windows 2003 with Essbase (Windows Server 64 bit SP2, HP Proliant DL380 G5 with 2x Quattrocore Xeon X5450 3.0 Ghz) 16 GB RAM
as our planning application is quiet big and we run a lot consolidation & datacopy at night, we depend on parallel calculation.
We mainly use command calcparallel 4 - but on 64 bit system, calcparallel 7 should be possible as well
We plan now to extend the system for other regions/2nd application
My Question: the new consultant confused me today, that essbase would regard 1 physicial quattrocore processor as 1 core for parallel calculation - that a machine with just 2 physical cores is not a really powerful machine... and that we better think about new hardware- that a quattrocore is just 1 core for essbase analytics - is this true ???
so did we actually choose a weak environment with only 2 (Quattro)-cores) for Essbase ?
Can anybody confirm if there is a difference for essbase between having e.g. 4 Dualcores and 2 Quattrocores ? (Besides the fact, that it will cost more, as we have to lease a bigger Server with more processor-sockets- and that it will cost a lot efforts to get the system changed)
P.S.: EAS console shows 8 cores for the Essbase Server in properties
Applicationlogfile shows: calculating in parallel with [4] threads (we use command calcparallel 4 in businessrule)
    - our nightly calculations take between 60 and 120 minutes- if we avoid fragmentation (run dense restructure every 4 weeks) and keep the system clean and lean...

    Hi John,
thanks for the helpful link - the long discussion reminded me again, that pure cores and cache is not all, what makes up a good essbase application -
I will test with calcparallel 6 (in comparison to 4) on our 64bit environment - just to see if I can achieve a 10, 20 or 30% improvement...
In addition, I must admit, that 50% of our 1-2 hour calculation is calculated in serial/ not parallel... so I expect an additional 5 to 10 min improvement, not more.

  • Migration from Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server

I am working on migrating Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 from Old server to new server. We have db around 500 GB and 3 schemas. I installed Oracle 10G on new server, created tablespaces, schema's blah blah and now doing export and import at schema level from old server to new server.
Import is taking more than 4 to 5 hours on new server. My manager is saying, window time is bit longer and he wants me to try possiblities to make this process faster. Can some one help me on this, to use the best possible method to complete this process faster?
Will below step work, if I try?
If I install, oracle 9i and 10g both on new server in different home directories and take the hot backup from old machine and restore on new machine in 9i home directory and use the upgrade configuration assistant from 10g and do the upgrade? Pls advice.
    Thanks in advance,

    It looks good.
I have one question in below steps:
To migrate an Oracle9i or older database to an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database for 64-bit Windows:
    1 Perform steps 1 - 11 in "Migrating an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) Database".
2 Shut down the database on the 64-bit computer:
    SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
    3 Start the database migration:
    SQL> STARTUP MIGRATE;
4 Migrate the database as described in Chapter 3, "Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle Database 10g Release" in Oracle Database Upgrade Guide.
In step 4, it says, migrate database as described in chapter 3. In chapter 3, it says, to do the upgrade the process using dbca or manually. Pls confirm whether do the upgrade process after issuing startup migrate or not.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How to Install 64-bit "Generic / Text Only" print driver on a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server?

    Hi All,
In a nutshell, I need to Install the 64-bit Generic / Text Only print driver on a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server’s “Generic / Text Only 32-bit print queue.
The problem is that there is no Driver-Disk to get the drivers. I’ve been able to isolate 14 files related to the 64 bit drivers from a Windows 7 x64 computer and copy them to a temp folder on the Windows 2003 x32 server. When I try to add the 64 bit driver
to the Windows 2003 x32 server,  it wants a *.inf file, which I don’t have and can’t find.
Because Microsoft will no longer support Windows XP, my client is replacing all of their Point-of-Sale Windows XP x32 systems with Windows 7 x64. They use Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) to connect to a Windows 2003 x32 server to use the POS system. The
POS software redirects LPT1 back to the local Generic / Text Only printer. This works great for XP x32.
When we use the Terminal Services POS software on the new Windows 7 x64 system, none of the labels print out because it’s redirected in 32-bit back to the local Windows 7 x64 Generic / Text Only 64-bit printer.
This will be a huge issue for me if I can’t get this to work.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help! -Rob

  • Problem on installation of windows 2003 Standard Ed. 64 bit with 10 GB RAM

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the Oracle 10G R2 on Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition 64 bit on HP machine 64 bit.
My problem is that the Oracle is seeing just 4GB of RAM.
I found some Oracle notes that explain this problem for machine and OS with 32 bit.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Sergio

    Are you installing Oracle 32-bit?
(In that case, the process virtual memory addressing is limited to 2^32 = 4GB. Note also it is virtual, not physical memory)
64-bit editions (e.g. for X64) are available from:

  • Installing problem on Windows 2003 Server 64 bit

    Dear All,
I'am trying to install XE onto a Windows 2003 Server 64 bit.. The installation process ends without any errors but the database itself seems not to start.
I tried several hints that have been mentioned here within the forum. But none of them worked. While experimenting I saw that there is not a single registry entry of Oracle within HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\Software .
Is there a possiblity to set those needed registry entries manually? Is there a script for that purpose?
Thank you very much for your help!
    Regards
    Matthias

    Hi,
thank you for your reply. As 32bit programs should run under Windows 64bit I thought the XE should run under 64bit, too.
The installation of XE itself seems to finish without any errors. But within the log files it can be read that the database has not started up due to a out of memory problem. This causes many log entries within all other logfiles as no database could be created.
The out of memory problem might be the same as within Advice on running XE on a small virtual Linux host ("Virtuozzo") because I am using a virtual windows 2003 server with "Virtuozzo", too.
At this time I am on discussing the issue with the provider. Maybe I will get a dedicated server with Windows Server 2003 64bit. Hopefully the XE could be installed on the 64bit Windows Server because 32bit dedicated servers are rare.
    Best regards
    Matthias
