Easy Setup Suggestions

Hi everyone,
ok, once again a silly question, but apparently in the past I committed mistakes so...
I'm shooting HDV with an HDR FX1, will import as SD for sake of time and hard drive space. Final destination will be DVD and TV.
What easy setup should I use? In the past I used DV-NTSC but Tom once asked me why I had choosen that... especially when I had to use the filter "widescreen" to crop transitions and other effects. If I had choosen the right setup that wouldn't have been necessary.
My camera will output SD 720X480 footage letterboxed. What is the best setup for timline and output????
Is there any reading I could do about the different setups?
THANK YOU!!!!!!
Umberto
iBook-hopefully soon a ProBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

DV is always 720x480 (NTSC anyway) whether it's anamorphic or letterboxed for not. I am pretty sure that camera will output a DV anamorphic signal as well as a letterboxed signal. Read the manual to figure out how to do this. It sounds as if you're sending a letterboxed signal to FCE, not an anamorphic one. When you say it's stretched, which way is it stretched, up and down, or left and right? It should look correct in the capture window.

  • DVD capturing - What setting on Easy Setup?

    Hello,
I'm caputuring video from my DVD player which is : connected RCA to a Canopus converter box : out firewire and into the Macbook.
When I capture the video, I get the message saying "Audio/Video rate may not match sample..." after I'm finished capturing.
I have no idea which setting in Easy Setup to choose from.
It is currently set at: DV - NTSC 32 kHz
    Any suggestions?

If you are capturing via a box like the Canopus ADVC-110 (any model, actually), you should use the DV NTSC DV Converter easy setup. (Assuming you're in the US, that is.) Select this easy setup BEFORE you create a new sequence and/or try to capture anything from the Canopus. Also make sure that the Canopus box itself is set for NTSC, not PAL.
You should NOT use the DV NTSC 32KHz easy setup.

  • FCP 7.0.3 Easy Setup audio setting issues

I have created two custom Easy Setups.
    SD:     DVCPro50 PAL with audio set @ 48.000 kHz, 16-bit, 16 chan
    HD:     DVCProHD 1080i 25fps with audio set @ 48.000kHz, 24-bit, 16 chan
I open FCP, load the SD easy setup.  I then click on Audio/Video settings.
Select "Audio/Video Settings" and view "Capture Presets Summary"
         - Audio format is listed as 48.000 kHz 16-bit 16-chan
Select"Edit" and "Capture Preset Editor" comes up.
         - UnderQuicktime Audio Settings:
              - Device:  AJA Kona 3
              - Format:  48.000 kHz 16-bit 16-chan
If I then select the HD Easy Setup, and then "Audio/Video Settings"
Select"Edit" and "Capture Preset Editor" comes up.
         - UnderQuicktime Audio Settings:
              - Device:  AJA Kona 3
              - Format:  48.000 kHz 16-bit 16-chan (THIS SHOULD BE 24-bit)
    Select the "A\V Device" tab:
The audio device has defaulted to the 16 bit setting as well.
It appears that FCP or AJA is keeping the audio bitrate from the previous Easy Setup.
Even if we close FCP completely, and reopen into a new project, load the HD Easy Setup, the bit rate still shows as 16.
I have tried deleting the following:
    apple.finalcutpro.plist
    Final Cut User Data Folder
    Thanks,
    Mike

The camera definitely recorded in SP, that icon was visible on the viewfinder...
What settings should i be using in FCP to capture the video? From attempted research i found most comments suggesting to use a basic Firewire settings. i have used this in PAL format but the results are poor.
One thing I am confused about is the 32khz or 48khz settings. Which should i be using? I have an older version of FCE 4 where there are many settings for both 32khz and 48khz for DV FireWire but in FCP7 there are only options for 48khz.
Any advice would be welcomed at the moment.
I am also willing to upload clips of what I have to demonstrate visually the poor quality video I am capturing from the Canon

  • TP 600X Always Boots to Easy-Setup

    Hello...
    It's a 600X 2646-D3U. BIOS is BIOS ITET55WW, 11/30/99
I bought it used in 2004 and it has served two kids reasonably well. They've moved on to more current hardware and I'm trying to bring it back to life.
I replaced the 'button' battery, the li-Ion battery and the keyboard. It had/is been running WXP for a few years. But...
No matter what I do, it always boots to the Easy-Setup screen. I've gone through all the options there and confirm/reset the config & boot options.
If I then select 'Restart', it comes back to the Easy-Setup screen. If I just press ctrl+alt+del from the Easy-Setup screen it boots to WXP and the Windows Logon screen.
It's almost like the F1 key is stuck down during power-on. There are no indications that the F1 key is not working correctly.
Any suggestions/help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I believe that a stuck F1 key is about the only one you can have stuck on the keyboard and still be able to boot into Windows.  I just duplicated your problem with one of my 600X systems by continuously pressing the F1 key and booting.  It goes right into the Easy-Setup menu and then Windows after the CTRL-ALT-DEL, while still holding onto the F1 key.  The F1 key is typically used by Windows programs to bring up a Help window. For example, if Firefox (3.5) is running, pressing the F1 key will open a tab at the support page; Internet Explorer opens up a popup Help utility.
You can verify the functioning of all of the keyboard keys using PC Doctor for DOS.  The program can be downloaded directly from here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-495KW2
This program will create a bootable floppy with the diagnostic program.  If you prefer to use a CD-R, then I host the same file as an .ISO here:
    http://www.kawakami-ca.com/ibm_600x/dgpcdoc.iso
Boot the system with the media and select the 600X from the menu of supported systems.  Once the diagnostic is loaded, select the Interactive Tests menu option (using the trackpoint or arrow keys and then pressing Enter) and then the Keyboard test, the Keyboard Keys and finally the 84 key(US/Hebrew) option.  That should display a crude map of the keyboard.  Pressing any one of the keys will cause the corresponding key on the display to go "reverse video".  My guess would be that you won't be able to get any reaction from the F1 key.  I was able to completely load the PC Doctor diagnostic and get to this test while keeping the F1 key down the whole time.
The fix would be to try to pry off the keycap of the F1 key and see if there's anything you can do underneath.  I was able to get the keycap off by lifting the "back" side of the key toward myself.  There's a plastic/rubber dome which should be present.  If it's "deflated" then that is the cause of your problem. If it's missing, then there's probably some contamination on the board (i.e., a short) which makes the keyboard think you're pressing the key.  It might be possible to replace the dome but you have to glue it down without interfering with the switch contacts.  It's probably easier just to get a replacement keyboard.

  • How to Delete easy setup profiles

  • Editing 16:9 mp4 files from .mod ....what easy setup to use?

Hi everybody....I am trying to get started on an edit of some 16:9 mp4 files that I created from .mod files using MPEG Streamclip. I can now import the files into FCP and chose DV NTSC Anamorphic as the easy setup, and am having two problems for starters:
    1. The canvas window is showing me the edit as a 4:3 letterbox
    2. When I try to render clips, I get the message: "Render Error: Insufficient Disk space. Free up space with render manager and retry?" ....but even if I try to gain space by using that manager there is nothing in the list to remove anyway.... and so I am unable to render clips.
    Any suggestions?

#1 - FCP doesn't edit mp4 files. That is not an editing codec. Convert to DV/NTSC using MPEG STREAMCLIP.
#2 - if you drop a clip into the timeline and have to render, that is a BIG CLUE that something is wrong. You should never have to render just a base clip if everything is setup right. That means converting the footage to DV/NTSC, and using the same settings in FCP.
#3 - Where is your media stored? And what type of SCRATCH DISK do you have? do no use your system drive to store footage or render to.

  • Easy Setup For Panasonic AG-HMC150 Files?

I just got my new Panasonic AG-HMC150, and shot some sample footage at 720p/60. I had no problems getting the clips into FCP using Log & Transfer, and they look fine when playing them in the viewer, or from the timeline.
I have a Matrox MXO, and the clips also play great on my 2nd Cinema Display that runs off of the Matrox; and, I have a small Sony 4:3 CRT monitor, that shows the clips properly letterboxed, and they play fine on that too. I've even exported the clips to Compressor, and burned a DVD in DVDSP, which looks great. Audio is fine, in sync, etc.
The only problem is in the FCP canvas window; the lips will flicker a little or a lot, depending on the View Menu's video playback setting; using MXO DVCPRO 1280x720/59.94 causes a lot of flicker, while choosing MXO Uncompressed 1280x720/59.94 causes a little .
I'm not sure if my Easy Setup is correct; I've chosen the MXO Apple Pro Res 720p/59.94 sequence setting, but I'm not sure what to do for Capture or Device Control settings; I wouldn't think that they would matter.
I think the problem is with the Video Playback setting; I've chosen several of the MXO settings, and they all play fine on my Matrox monitor, but I can't find one that will smooth out playback in the canvas. Or, since everything else seems to work fine, should I even be worrying about this?
I'm making the switch from capturing tapes, and I actually expected a lot more trouble than I'm having; but solving this tiny glitch would be great. I'm looking forward to getting familiar with this camera and using it for some upcoming events.
Any suggestions on the proper Easy Setup settings for files from this camera, and in particular, a good View/Video Playback setting? Thanks in advance.

Click on one of the ingest camera files in the FCP Browser. Once it is selected, type Command + 9 to see the properties for the clip. Either report those properties here or take a screen shot of the item properties and post that here.
Next, click anywhere in your timeline, then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your Sequence Settings. Either report those settings here or take a screen shot of your Sequence Settings and post that screen shot here.

  • Easy Setup Setting

I have shot 24p on mini digital tape using a Sony HVR V1U camera. It's an HDV format camera. Using Final Cut Pro 6, what should my easy setup setting be?

Wow, thanks for this information! I looked everywhere. I have gotten different answers from various people. Some have suggested I simply use the Easy Setup: "HDV 1080i/60." I will try both including your ProRes format.

  • HVR-V1u HVR-1500 capture Easy Setup

    Hello,
    Shot on V1U 1080i 30p - now capturing off of HVR1500, it's only reading 1080i60 though...
I captured at Easy setup HDV 1080p30 for the last few tapes, but it felt a tad jumpy... the setting on camera was 30p 1080i, a mix of interlaced and progressive? So the 1080p30 was the wrong setting?
So I looked online, and in the release notes for 6.0.2 it says to capture for Sony HVR-V1 1080p30 on easy setup 1080i60 - the progressive scan will be preserved... is the V1 the same as V1u? Do I still capture 1080i60? Or was that an older model?
Does playback on the HVR1500 change the easy setup since it can only play back 60i?
It also says to use the Apple Intermediate Codec, but that takes up too much HDD space.
    Any suggestions?

Capture it as 1080i HDV, or 1080i ProRes. Place it in a sequence, and say yes when it asks to conform the sequence. Then look in the A/V settings window and create your own easy setup for this.
I've not looked to see if there is an easy setup already for this, but if there isn't, then you can create one once you've decided whether to capture as HDV or ProRes... I'd choose ProRes because it's 10 bit so graphics will look better, and it encodes to DVD's or web streams faster, and it renders faster. File sizes are larger with it however.

  • How to configure the Easy Setup to match the sequence type for playback

Plesae provide some suggestion for how to configure the Easy Setup in FCP 6.05.
    *Uncompressed HD 8-bit (1920 x 1080p30)video streams
    e.g:
    1. Choose Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup.
    2. Choose ?? from the Format pop-up menu
    3. Choose “all rates” from the Rate pop-up menu.
    4. Click the USE pop-up menu, choose which format?
    Also how about Uncompressed SD 8-bit (720 x 480p30) video streams ?
    Thanks,

    Thanks for the advice.
In the project, I created two sequences.
Import all my HD 8-bit clips into sequence 1, and say yes to mach the format
and import all my SD 8-bit clips into sequence 2 and say yes.
In Sequence-> setting-> I verified the configuration as following:
However, that is "Load sequence preset" button, I am not sure what is that for and also do I need to go to Final cut pro -> easy setup to configure the format again?
I just want to playback all my HD clips to make sure no dropped frame and
then playback my SD clips sequence to make sure the performace are OK.
Here are the format for HD clips:
    HD 1920x1080 HDTV 1080i (16:9); upper; uncompress 4:2:2.
Here are the format for HD clips:
    SD 720x480 NTSSC DV (3:2), NTSC-CCIR601, lower , uncmpress 8-bit 4:2:2.

  • E1200 and "Quick and Easy Setup"

My parents were trying to setup their E1200 router. We had to do a reset (using the button) since we couldn't access the router admin menu (someone had hacked/changed the password). I'm doing this remotely over the phone.
Now, when they open Internet Explorer, they are getting a"Linksys Quick and Easy Setup" screen no matter what web site they try to get to. They don't have access to the original CD to install Linksys Connect. Mom says that when she clicks on "No CD? Download the software" link, nothing happens. Looks like she's got internet, though, as there's a link to the Linksys forums, and she's seeing updates from the forums."
I don't know what this screen looks like, but isn't there some way to get past this splash screen? The computer is plugged into the router via a cable, so I'm not sure why they can't access the internet manually. Is there a way to just "disable" the "Quick and Very So Not Easy Setup" and skip right to using the internet?
    Thanks.

Hi dapupster. I suggest that you let your parents do another reset. Tell them to make sure that they press down the reset button that's underneath the device ( please check the  picture). Let them press it down for 30 seconds while the device is powered on.  Once done, let them unplug the unit, plug it back in and try to access the setup page manually through 192.168.1.1.
If the challenge remains the same, let them unplug the router from the modem and have them access the 192.168.1.1 page with only the computer that's connected to the router.  Hope the suggestions help.

  • Error: You must have at least 1 Easy Setup File?

    I just upgraded from FCE 1.0.1 to FCE HD v3.0. I have Quicktime 7.4.5 & OS X 10.4.11
When I launch, it takes forever because it's trying to load all my audio plugins into it and then at the end of that I get this error message:
Unable to start Final Cut Express HD. You must have at least 1 Easy Setup file. Please re-install Final Cut Express HD and try again.
Since it takes so long to install and I've already done it twice now...to no avail mind you...I was wondering if a guru or enlightened person would fill me in with what's going on and what I might do about it?

You may as well get rid of everything as we don't know where the problem lies.
This says FCE 2 but it is for FCE 1.0.1 as well. Remember many of the FCE 3.0 and FCE 1.0.1 files will be the same/shared.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93690
When you reinstall, do not install FCE 1.0.1.
Simply install FCE 3.0 and you will be asked at some point for the FCE 1.0.1 serial number as well.

  • E2000 won't connect to laptop using Easy Setup Key

Running Win7. When trying to connect Lenovo laptop to E2000 with Easy Setup Key, the progress bar hangs at 25%. However, the E2000 will connect to the laptop with an Ethernet cable. Same problem on both of my Lenovo G555 laptops. Any ideas?

I have heard about this concern with Atheros adapters and where it cannot connect with WPA or WPA2. Check if you set the security to WEP if it will connect. (Usually it does). And better check for updated drivers from this website. http://www.atheros.cz/ (manually update the drivers). The automatic update with windows will most of the time load the same driver version. So it would be best to update the drivers manually.

  • INGESTED DVCPRO HD FOOTAGE IN WRONG "EASY SETUP" - HELP!

OK, this falls under the heading: Just plain stupid. Nevertheless, now I am looking for a fix. I'm new to HD. I shot a short film with a Panasonic HVX-200. I was not going to have to do the post-production and would periodically load the footage into FCP as it was shot just to see how it looked. Then it turned out, I was asked to edit it under a tight deadline. However, when I ingested the footage into FCP I never changed the easy setup. The editing is now done and I wish to output to Digi Beta. But I now see the sequence settings are set for CCIR 601 NTSC! Is there a way to "undo" this and put in the proper setting? Or is the only way to re-ingest and re-edit? This is embarassing. But, hey, we all have to learn. Maybe publishing my error will save someone else down the road! Thanks for any help.

That's very interesting to learn that 601 NTSC is the proper setting for Digibeta. I didn't know that. Here are the exact current sequence settings:
    Frame Size: 720 x 486. Aspect Ratio: CCIR 601 (40:27)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601 / DV 720 x 480
    Field Dominance: Lower (Even)
    Editing Timebase 29.97
    QuickTime Video Settings:
    Compressor: Uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2
    Quality: 100%
    Audio: 48Khz, 24-bit
    Config: default
I shot in DVCPRO HD 720p60
Gosh, I'm trying to remember if I had to render the footage as I dropped it into the timeline. I didn't think so. But now I can't swear to it.
I guess I have (at least) 2 questions: (1) Is there a way to "revert" to the HD format for this sequence now that it's edited? (2) Do I even want to do that if I want to output to digibeta print? What's the best thing to do to obtain a maximum quality digibeta print?
By the way, I just heard this week that the film was accepted into a film festival, so I'm under a dead line to deliver a print, preferrably in digibeta or beta sp format.
Would greatly appreciate any help. And thanks for the welcome to the forums!

  • Unrendered and Easy Setup

I have a new Sony SR11 and I'm experimenting with a FCE workflow. I've recorded a few minutes of video at the camcorder's highest setting, but am having problems getting it to play in the viewer in FCE - the audio plays, but the video shows "unrendered". I've read through the forums but haven't found an answer that helps me yet.
    Source video:
Recorded at 16 Mb/s with a frame size of 1920x1080.
    Easy Setup:
    HDV AIC 1080i/60
When I create a sequence even after setting the above Easy Setup value, the sequence has a frame size of 1400x1080. If I read other posts correctly, the reason that FCE needs to render my clips before playing them in the viewer is that the frame sizes don't match. 1400x1080 != 1920x1080.
Assuming that's really the problem, how do I change the sequence frame size to 1920x1080? Or does FCE/AIC not support 1920x1080?

Found answers to my own questions. Posting here for others in case they have the same issues:
Alright...here's the fix. It's a PITA but it works:
You need to download this free converter: MPEG Streamclip
    File -> Export to QuickTime
    Compression: Apple Intermediate Codec
    Quality: 100%
    Sound: Stereo/48 kHz
Import the converted file into FCE and everything will work smoothly. Here's the rub:
    1. Extra step
    2. Extra, larger files. A h.264 original out of the camera that was 69mb turned into a 216mb file after conversion.
Kinda defeats one of my primary purposes for moving to FCE instead of iMovie (save disk space by using referenced files instead of imported ones)
