Edge Animate playing all symbols on replay?

Hi, I am at my wits' end here--I've created a basic animation using Edge Animate CC 2014.0.1, featuring groups of symbols which have a stop trigger at the beginning of the animation and are then played at the appropriate time. It works fine--the first time through. However, I added a "replay" button which loops back to a point early in the animation (but not the very beginning), and on the replay, all the symbols display their end state from the beginning (even though I had them fading to 0 before the loop trigger), until they play again. This seems to happen whether I loop to the beginning or another point.
If this sounds familiar, it's because I asked a similar question a few months ago (about symbols autoplaying), but this time no amount of tweaking or trigger nudging seems to get them to disappear. Any thoughts? Composition is attached.

I think the easiest way to make this work would be to change all your play() on the timeline by play from 0. This way your symbols will alway play from the beginning of their timeline. I would change autoplay to off for all symbols because if you have a stop() on their timeline they will not play.

Chrome playing all symbols at once despite "stop" triggers?

Hi Everyone, I'm working on an animation (Edge Animate CC 2014) where several sets of events are grouped in symbols--each has a "stop" trigger at 0:00 and then a "play" trigger at the appropriate time. This works fine in Firefox & Safari, but Chrome plays ALL symbols simultaneously from the beginning (resulting in a complete mess). Has anyone else had this problem, and are there any solutions short of getting rid of the symbols and pasting their content to the main timeline (resulting in a HUGE and unmanageable action list)?

If you move the Timeline trigger stop just a little rightward, it works. See capture.

HELP - Edge Animate issues - buttons/symbols not working/disappearing in portrait mode on mobile devices

Edge Animate - Issues - buttons/symbols not working/disappearing when in portrait mode on iPad and mobile devices, but in landscape version everything is fine.
Everything works cross broswer on Desktop - Safari, Chrome, Explorer and Firefox - mobile devices prove glichy... anyone else experience this?
It's a regular issue of mine, particularly with complex animations. Symbols disappear
- is it something to do with overflow?
- responsive scaling?
I have no idea.

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

Why won't my Edge Animate play on older browsers (IE 7 for example)?

I've created an Edge animation (marquee) banner for a site I'm working on, but when I check it on older computers (for example XP running IE7), all I see is a large white rectangle where the marquee is supposed to be. Any ideas?

Hey there,
Animate only supports Animated content in modern browsers. IE <8 doesn't have the capability to handle some of the newer HTML languages. We do have an option to display a static poster image for older browsers and you can add links to different images.
Check out the poster/downlevel options which is what users will see on browsers that don't support CSS3.
You can also use Chrome Frame as an option to display animated content on older versions of IE. You can find this in the publish settings.

Thank you for your feedback Michael To answer your question, about the homepage, only the right arrow (to select where you want to go on the site) and the big drawing on the white square are (to reach the selected part of the site you chosed) are clickable. The list of items aren't.
To share my experience with other experts on this forum, I have to tell the complete site has been designed and scripted in Edge Animate, and all the pictures have been made with... an iPhone and a Lumia 900. From the small ilustration picture to the large full screen size picture, all come from a cellphone camera. As you already guessed, I worked them all in Photoshop.

An object model for Edge Animate

Is there a published full object model for Edge Animate, showing all the functions and properties that are exposed?
Would like to know what properties exist for each object, as well as what functions can be called.

If I want to know what variable/properties I can access, is there a table or list someplace?
If I want to know the text string being shown in a text object, what property is that.
If I want to set the text value of a text object, what function do I call?
If I want to know the font used in a text box, what property is that?
Most of your documentation that I have seen so far is more HOW TO oriented, I would say.
"If you want to do this, do that...if you want to do this, to something else".
That is helpful.
But not as helpful as "Here are all the properties you can access, and here are all the methods you can call".
THAT is also helpful.
So, what properties and methods are PUBLICLY exposed and available for us to use programmatically, would be very helpful to knowl.
Edge Animate is a tremendous tool.
Believe me, we are trying to count on it to deliver some ground-breaking research.
We just don't want to play trial-and-error with what is there to be utilized, anymore than we have to.

Typekit font not displaying in iPad DPS app (created by Indesign) in Web Content (Edge Animate)

I think I have tried every permutation to make this work, but I am probably missing something.
I am creating a single DPS iPad app with InDesign, and I am using a Typekit font throughout. So far so good.
I have created an Edge Animate project using the same Typekit font. In preview mode, it is fine as well.
However, when I place the Edge Animate project into a frame in InDesign and use the Web Content Folio Overlay (regardless of whether I use the .oam file or link directly .html output published by Animate), the Typekit font will not show up in the Edge Animate portion of the DPS app and will instead use a fallback font.
Can anyone suggest a way to make Typekit fonts in Edge Animate work when embedded in a DPS app? (For what it's worth, I have the same problem when embedding html output from Tumult Hype, so it seems unlikely that this is an issue with Edge Animate at all and probably has more to do with something in the way the DPS app is dealing with embedded html content.)

Believe me, I understand the pain. Unfortunately there's only so much we can do at Adobe as the EULAs provided by the foundries for their respective fonts are very explicit in where you can and can not use them.
For example, packaging an InDeisgn file and sending it off for pre-press with the fonts included in the package is in direct violation of most font EULAs. In a studio environment, you're only allowed to have a font installed on n number of computers and need to have multiple licenses to accomidate >n number of seats. When creating a PDF, fonts explicitly have to be subsetted before embedding into the PDF.
That's just to paint a picture of the fragile state of using fonts in print, usage in digital mediums is just another bee in your bonnet when it comes to considering when you can and cannot use a font.
Services like Typekit Desktop are trying to make this easier by removing a lot of those pain and condierations for you, by blanketing all these fonts under a single license you're free to use for print and the web. There's still some gotchyas, but we're aiming to greatly reduce how much you have to think about it where we can.
So yes there's a bit of education when it comes to mixing embedded HTML content/fonts with DPS, but at least there's options

Pie chart created in edge animate changes to a square animation when imported into dps

I Have created an animated pie chart in edge animate and all works fine.
I then import into indesign and again all looks fine (even though at this stage it is a flat image) but when i export for dps and preview folio etc the animation turns from a circle to a square.
Anyone have any pointers or experinced the same problem etc?

The top image is a screen shot from edge and what it should be like, and the bottom image is of when you preview it in dps
Also when i view this in browser via edge animate and then preview it seems fine and as you can see on the bottom image when i import the oam into indesign again it is fine but then when I come to preview my 'folio it turns the animation from a circle into a square.
Also if its any help, the animation works perfectly if exported by epubs and viewed through ibooks.

InDesign, Edge Animate and SVG import

I created an Edge animation whose ultimate destination is for an iPad app authored in InDesign. To avoid any font issues and to make this viewable in all iPad flavors (retina), I imported three lines of text as well as a text logo as SVG files from Illustrator in to Edge Animate. All fonts were converted to paths:

The link above is what Edge created when publishing for web. It is indeed SVGs and they do appear as such in my desktop machine, on my ipad and on my iphone when I view it using Safari. When I pinch and zoom in, all is rasor sharp. Perfect.
Here is the issue…
I unzipped the .oam file Edge creates for import into InDesign. Just to make sure, all my SVGs are there in the images folder. Edge did not create raster versions of any of them. So far so good...
But, when I place the .oam file in InDesign and preview the app on my ipad using the Aobe Content Viewer, the SVGs are rasterized. I zoom in and they are pixelated. Not good for retina ipads.
Is there a way of importing my Edge animation and retaining the SVGs as vectors and not making them rasters? Is this an InDesign limitation?
Any thoughts?

Unfortunately not at the moment. This is a known issue with Edge placement in InDesign.

Edge Animate loads JS files twice

HI,
Does anyone know why Edge animate loads all the javascript files and JQuery and Edge Libraries twice. Is there a way to prevent or override this?
When profiling my animation with Safari and Chrome, in the Network requiements you can see that these file are loaded twice, increasing the network requirements.
It seems that the first time the format is not recognized given that the icon next to the files is for IMG. The second time it is loaded then it gets the icon for JS.
Has anyone seen this?

Yes, this is the only way Yepnope 1.0.x works and 1.5.x still does such things. There are changes in this area in 1.5.x though. Yepnope exposed two direct methods to inject JS and CSS files. So yepnope({load: ...}) will preload files first and inject them after. Direct methods don't preload files. As far as Edge Animate doesn't use full power of yepnope, there is good chance that direct method will work good:

Are Edge Animates .OAM files that span 100% left to right with Adobe Muse even possible?

I can make an interactive banner like this: www.nbc.com , I can design websites in Adobe Muse, yet how do I combine the two? I can combine them but not with 100% browser width on both sides of the .OAM file published by Edge Animate? All I want is my .oam file to span from left to right of any sized browser without gap... HELP PLEASE! Is this possible with Adobe Muse & .OAM files?

How do you remove a symbol from the stage in Edge animate?

Hello-
I'm wondering how to remove a symbol from the stage in Edge Animate so you can jump to another place in the timeline. In Flash, the symbol was only on the stage for the amount of frames you indicated. Not sure how it works here.
For example, I have 2 buttons on my first screen with some text that animates in. I want the button click to take the user to another section in the timeline or (basically another scene, like in Flash) that contains different content. If I change the visibility the buttons are still there and will ( I assume) create problems when other elements are placed on top.
Or is the only way with code. If that is the case what would that code be?

What I usually do, is, once you have everything set up in the scene you are done with. highlight it all
right click
group elements in DIV
Now all those items act as 1 group and then you give it a properties name, much like a symbol.
THEN you can refer to that scene name and move it anywhere or hide it and slide in another scene that has the content for that next scene.
basically you take all the elements that make up 1 scene, gruop it up, name it, and then in the code for the button say something like:
on click:
scenename.play(framenumber);
that will then animate that scene according to any animation you gave it, such as moving to the left, off stage. while moving scene 2 that you create into the stage.
or just have something like this hide it
sym.$("scenename").hide();
sym.$("scene2name").show();
but if you do that, make sure in your CompositionReady code you hide all scenes EXCEPT the 1st one, so the user doesnt see them all instanatly anyway.

How to replay entire composition including video and other animation in edge animate cc 2014.1

I am working on a project but i am stuck now. The basic flow of my project is: intro slides then a video plays then next and back buttons fade in that will control the next set of slides. Another button to replay the whole thing from start. My problem is i am able to replay the slides but not the video. My slides consists of text animations. I am using the new edge animate cc 2014.1 All the slides play from the beginning but the video does not follow that lead. I also managed to replay the video but thats not the desired thing i want. I want the whole composition to play again when i click a button. Can anyone help ?

The problem is with the playReverse call for time duration in which video is there.
playReverse actually plays in timeline in revere order 5sec->4sec->...->0sec, but this won't work for video as it doesn't play the video in reverse.
what you can do is that, in the "previous" button click handler, add
     if(sym.getPosition() > 7750) {
       sym.playReverse();
     else {
       sym.$("trance6")[0].pause();
       sym.$("trance6")[0].currentTime = 0;
       sym.play(0);
Also in "start" button click handler there needs a correction as below:
     Use this sym.$("trance6")[0].play();
     instead of sym.$("trance6")[0].play("1");

How do I turn an entire Edge Animate project into a symbol

I have created an Edge Animate project that features a short animated tutorial for our website. Now I realize that I would like to incorporate that project inside a larger project. Is there any way to convert the entire tutorial into a symbol that can be added to the larger project?

Hi, Paul-
You'll need to do a little bit of wrangling to make this happen, but the easiest thing to do is:
Select everything in your elements panel and convert to symbol
Transfer all of your triggers by highlighting them all in your main timeline and cutting (Ctrl/Cmd-X), then:
Open your symbol
Move the playhead to the time location of your first trigger
Paste (Ctrl/Cmd-V)
Transfer all of your timeline-based and stage-based code manually
Hopefully that helps - it's a little bit of a pain if you have a lot of code involved, but if you only have timeline-based things, most can be cut and pasted over.

Edge Animate not playing in Chrome or Firefox?

Hi guy's,
I've embeded an Edge Animate file as an i-Frame so the animation can be viewed in our companies LMS (as it uses a WIZIWIG editor to create the content), the animation plays in Safari and on iPad etc, but it wont play on Chrome or Firefeox?
Does anyone have any idea on how I can make sure it plays on all browsers please?
I'm a bit of a newbie, so sorry if this is a stupid question?

I've checked the comsole, It looks like there might be an error on our Firewall as it says 'display: blocked'
However, as the file is hosted externally it shouldn't make a difference? I've tried veiwing the slider on an 'un-networked' machine on both Chrome and Firefox, and it doesn't seem to play still.
