Edge terrible for YouTube. Here's another solution to get good YouTube
Not the best but this actually turns up better YouTube vids. Go to iTunes and subscribe to BestOfYouTube (Video) podcast. iTunes will download as many of the vids you chose and then when you sync your iPHone will have the videos ready to play in the iPod app under podcasts (Videos). Like I was saying the videos are better than the choices given in the YouTube iPhone app.
Actually this is an excellent option for a lot of cool video i.e. subscribe to popular video podcasts and watch them on the road or where ever.

"No Service" on a new iPhone 5? Here's another solution.
This may sound blindingly obvious to some, but there are no instructions to do this included with a new, shipped phone: you need to activate service through your carrier. If you are on AT&T, go to the AT&T Wireless website and enter a search for "activate." You will be asked to confirm two identification numbers, which are on a label on the bottom of the phone's box. Make sure your phone is powered off before starting the activation, and keep it off for 15 minutes. Your old phone will be automatically disconnected from the network at the time your new phone is activated.
There are other discussions involving a "missing SIM card" message. If that is the issue, removing the SIM card holder and re-seating the card may help.Hi claireleah,

Cannot install Edge icons for Firefox
When I try to install the Edge theme for Firefox in Firefox 1.5b2, I get this error:
The theme uses pixmaps, and only replaces buttons in the Firefox toolbar (not in the control panel). It should be compatible with any version of Firefox.
Is there a way around this?Uhh... Any advice on how to fix this? And after doing so, how do I recompress it into a .jar (instead of an ordinary .zip) file?

Since the latest Snow Lepard security download, Quicken 2007 for Mac does not function properly (it crashes and will not print). Quicken says it is waiting for a fix from Apple. Any idea when that might come? Does anyone have another solution?

Cannot receive calls when using Edge network for data?
Hi,
This afternoon someone was trying to reach me urgently and all her calls to my iPhone went straight into my voicemail. My phone never rang and never showed missed calls.
I spoke to Aaron at Apple, thinking there might be a problem with my phone, and he told me that when the Edge network is in use, then the phone will not ring and calls will be routed straight to voicemail.
Is this really expected behavior? I was not aware of it.

Everyone having this issue should call 1-800-MY iPhon. Ask to speak to Tier II support, the person you get may try to help, and may need to give you a case number. You'll probably have to wait a while on hold.
I just spent an hour on the phone with Tier I & II. The tier I guy started by saying that when you use EDGE it will always go to voicemail. I told him, I was on a user forum & some people said they don't have the issue. He then tested it on his phone & experienced the direct to v-mail issue. We talked about how this was a real problem & how both of our nokia phones didn't have this issue (he actually had the E-61 also). He gave me a case number & transferred my to tier II. The tier II guy told me that this was a software issue. That a pop-up needs to be designed into the software to allow the user the option to disconnect the data connection & accept the voice call, or not. I told him that I'd read on a user forum that some users get voice calls while using EDGE. He said that if they are using you tube the call will automatically interrupt & switch out of you tube. We then tested this on my iPhone & it worked (i.e. the call interupted you tube). He said the software currently decides to disconnect data or send calls to voice mail during EDGE transmissions based on what the user is doing. Phone calls take priority over you tube & widgets (stock & weather)but safari and e-mail take priority over phone calls. He said the thought was, it would be more annoying to users to be in the middle of sending an e-mail and having mail disconnected for a phone call, than having the call go to voicemail. The ideal solution is to have a choice (like other phones allow) but right now the iPhone software does not have a pop-up designed allowing the user to accept the call or keep the data connection. (He seemed to be familiar with this on other phones while being tethered to a macbook to use their data connections & getting voice calls during downloads).
He said he was submitting this to the engineering group & said the more people that call tier II about this & submit it as an issue via online feedback, the higher priority it will get to be addressed in the first software update. Best PE7.0 export settings for Youtube HD, Vimeo or Smugmug?
Hi all,
I'm really new to video editing and I can't find any recommendations on the best Premiere Elements 7 export settings for Youtube HD, Vimeo or Smugmug. It seems like most of them want you to upload in 1280x720.
My original source is 1920x1080 30p AVCHD from a Canon HF100. Obviously, I would like to keep it at the same frame rate. There doesn't appear to be a preset in PE7 (or a way at all) to output 1280x720 30 into an MPEG container with H.264 encoding. When I go into the advanced properties of a preset like "H.264 1920x1080i 30" or "MPEG2 1920x1080i 30" and choose 1280x720, I no longer have an option for 29.97 fps - the only options are 23.976 or 24 fps. It seems bad to change this, right?
I see the preset for "HD 720p 30" which appears to be MPEG encoding of the video stream instead of H.264. This seemed to work OK, but I wasn't sure about it, because when I choose it I see in the description a line that says TV Standard: NTSC. A number of web sites indicate that H.264 is preferred, but I don't really understand why.
I also found a way to do H.264 in a Quicktime container. This seemed a little suboptimal because you can't do variable bitrate. When I unselected the "select bitrate" checkbox, it seemed like a quality of 50 yielded a .mov file with a bit rate of 2.87Mb/s, and a quality of 100 yielded a .mov file with a bit rate of 26Mb/s. It is confusing to me how the quality setting affects the bitrate on the quicktime containers.
I'm leaning towards using the "HD 720p 30" preset and working with the bit rate choices, but am open to comments. What do others think?
And on a related question - assuming we choose the "HD 720p 30" preset as a starting point, given the 1GB file restriction at Youtube, it seems to make sense to choose a bitrate that allows both good quality and reasonable file size. I don't know much about whether VBR 1 pass, 2 pass or CBR would be best for this kind of online HD video. This page (http://webvideotechniques.com/123/bigger-and-better-encoding-for-youtube-hd) seems to indicate aiming for a bitrate of 8Mbps with a minimum of 4Mbps, including 2 pass VBR.
So, basically, I'm confused and a little overwhelmed. I think I have solutions that work, but it's hard to tell. What does the greater community think? Roughly, the answer is:
Quicktime container
Video codec: H.264
Quality: 80 (I used 100 and it just takes longer to encode)
Frame Rate: 29.97 (I guess if you are shooting in 24p, this might be different)
Bitrate: 5000 (I might try 8000)
Audio codec: AAC
Output channels: Stereo
Frequency: 48kHz
Now, my own personal changes to this recipe are:
Quality: 100 - takes longer to encode, no file size difference
Bitrate: 8000
Frequency: 44kHz (recommended by youtube)
One final note is that for Vimeo it appears you may have to try encoding in 29.97 or 23.97 and test to see which you like better. Apparently Vimeo caps fps at 24.
The nice thing about this is that you can get a quality video directly out of Premiere Elements and you don't have to pipe it through another program. -

I currently have 1,177 photos on my iphone (4s) but it takes up 4.9 GB of space. Why is it so large? I do not use photostream - this is simply within my "Camera Roll". Other than deleting the photos, can someone tell me another solution?
My friend has over 2,000 photos on her iphone and it only used 1.7 GB of space and I know I had at one point over 3,000 photos on my phone and still had space left for more.
Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Melissa.When you open your camera app, does it say "HDR on" at the top?
HDR photos are better quality but take up much more space.
Also, go to Settings>photos and camera. Scroll down to "keep normal photo". Is it on? This feature saves a normal copy and an HDR copy of every photo you take.
I bet your friend has this feature turned off along with the HDR as well. -

My issue doesn't relate whatsoever to the back button. I use jdev 10.1.3.3, ADF-BC. Here is the approach:
The user searches for a person based on some parameters. All of the views are read-only and are extended from the original ViewImpl (there is a :p_id_person and also

The second time I click on the page (the link to the page), the page renders without any errors. The solution was found in the token validation, but I am still puzzled why this happens. Flash Player not working for Youtube
I have Windows Me (yes im very old school) and am using Internet Explorer and for some reason flash player 9.0 will not work for youtube. I was just on youtube, watching some video, listening to music and it was working perfectly fine. I clicked on another video and got a message that 'javascript might be turned off or I got a old version of flash'. I downloaded flash again and youtube still will not work. The weird thing is if I go onto different video websites, I can get videos to work, just not youtube.
If anyone has any suggestion or things I can do to get youtube to work again, I'd appreciate it a lot. So I installed the new version w/o uninstalling the old one & I'm still getting the same error (in Firefox 3). Then I went to Control Panel in Win XP Pro and uninstalled 2 items of Adobe Flash so there were none left. Rebooted. Reinstalled the new version of Flash Player & I get no improvement. I've griped at YT Help, now I'm griping here. I can see YT videos embedded in MySpace Forums. I can watch the 2 videos in my YT Video Log at full screen even but the HQ/Normal button is missing for some reason). But if I try to play any other YT video, I get the JavaScript/Flash Player error message and no video box. I can hardly navigate around my YT channel at all now. I can't do much of anything but log in, log out and look at two video log videos.

Subtitle problems with Encore CS4 and BD/Blu-ray -- here is a solution!
Do you have problems with subtitles: for example they vanish completely after doing fast forward or turn them off and on again. Then here you can find one possible solution.
I am using Windows Vista 32bit. Thus Encore CS4 is the last version which I can use. Because Adobe will never provide a solution for this version, I was looking for another solution.
At least I found a workaround for my subtitle problems.
Now I am doing the following steps:
1. Create the blu-ray disk in a folder without subtitles
2. Create the subtitles with a program like "subtitle workshop"
3. Save the subtitles in the .srt format.
4. Use the program SubConverter Express v1.5.0 to convert the subtitles in the .sup format. Here you must choose a suitable font & font size.
5. Add the .sup to the blu-ray folder structure with the program BDFix Express v1.7.3. When doing that, you can also choose the language i.g. "deu" for german. You will find a detailed description in the forum on www.defsoft.com. It is very easy to understand.
6. BDFix will create a new folder with all necessary files to burn a blu-ray disk. Nothing changes in comparison to the folder which was createt by Encore except that subtitles were added.
7. You can burn this folder with a tool like imgburn.
With this workaround you will have the following advantages:
1. It seems that these subtitles were added in a blu-ray specification conform way. Fast forward/backward, switching on/off, chapter jump still work perfectly.
2. The subtitle fonts are rendered in a much more smooth way than Encore does.
3. The 5 frames gap between subtitles is not longer necessary.
4. This solution ist quite fast (about 20 minutes for a 25 GByte disc).
5. You can use these programs also for other blu-rays to add or remove subtitles.
6. You do not need Encore to add/change or remove subtitles. You can do that also years later. You only need the burned blu-ray disc.
To be honest, there is one disadvantage:
- The two programs (SubConverter & BDFix) cost about 200 US Dollar. But to cure my nerves that was worth it.
Hint: You can do a first test with the freeware versions. But there are two limitations. SubConverter can only import 30 subtitle lines and BDFix will only create 3 minutes of subtitles.

RalfFLV and F4V use different codecs for Flash video. H.264 in case of F4V and On2 VP6 for FLV. There's a difference of bitrate between different quality presets. You can check the bitrates of files generated using some tool. Your video might be very static to feel the different be the two quality settings.
F4V is the new format and need a newer version of Flash Player. Please update your Flash player and try again to play the F4V files.
Playstream doesnt support F4V format. You can only export FLV files to Playstream.
It might also be an issue of low bandwidth while playing a streaming video. Are you playing is locally or from a web server. -

Sometimes I upload music and stand-up to youtube. Till now I used wine + avisynth + virtualdubmod to achieve this. Lately I realized that there is another smipler way to carry out things: ffmpeg
I was looking for some script or one-liner which makes the encoding task, but unfortunately none of those mentioned scripts worked. They are all obsolate that are mentioned by others. Some of them works, but the resulting video are denied by youtube. Do anybody know a simple one-liner or script (or maybe a handy application) which can do the transcoding the right way?You don't say if you want 1 or multiple .jpg images in the video.

Find out how you want to do, then if you want a script to automate it, something like

You have about three thousand pages of manuals, why do you think we can shrink that information down? Compression is really difficult to understand and to control. There are dozens of Web sites you can explore or you could look at amazon.com and buy yourself some training systems. If you are going to be doing a lot of compression and encoding, you will learn it the same way everyone else does, slowly. It's often easier and faster and therefore cheaper to pay a service to do your encoding. Spend a few hours reading the Compressor forum.
Consider that you don't need to waste mjuch time rendering entire projects. Just assemble a short collection of problem scenes and use different settings till you get something you like. To confuse things even further, encoding results are totally subjective and a terrible compromise. You give up image quality to save time encoding or to gain program length. Youinvest tons of set up and encoding time to gain control the image quality. And you must process the audio separately to get the best use of your delivery media's capacity.
