Edi work of a functional sd consultant?

hello folks, i have got a lot of stuff for edi and am trying to learn the edi basics. what i have known so far is how to customize the steps for edi . , generating idocs in our system and sending it to the edi sub system(third party system)
major area of work is, when we map our r/3 system with the edi system , but that is something a technical guy does(an abaper) most of the time.
       but me as an sd consultant , can just tell the abaper that what applications , or application data am i going to send etc etc. and give him the fiels   to be mapped . is that correct?
      my question is
1) is that all as a sd functional consultant , i do?
2) what are the other areas i as a functional guy work when i work with edi 's?
3)what kind of edi subsytems are available in the market?
          please explain me giving examples. thank a lot

It is not all the functional consultant work. You would need to identify the IDOCs to be used. Like
ORDERS01 Purchasing/Sales
ORDERS02 Purchasing/Sales
ORDERS03 Purchasing/Sales
ORDERS04 Purchasing/Sales
ORDERS05 Purchasing/Sales
DELVRY01 Delivery interface
DELVRY02 Delivery interface with dangerous goods data

You would need to identity the IDOC to be used and the fields to be mapped. Fix any errors if they are related to functional area. For example, when you create a order confirmation you could get error like customer does not exist or things like that. Provide Logic if the standard IDOC is extended so that extended segments would be updated.
3)what kind of edi subsytems are available in the market?
GETNTRAN, HARBINGER etc.

As you mentioned, your experience and business process knowledge is sufficient to start with BPX.
BPX consultant need more business knowledge and process oriented experience. The BPX consultant should be highly attuned to the business of the organization. Good domain knowledge is added advantage.
For you to start up with, browse this space and you'll start getting a hang of what happens in the BPX world.
As would agree watch Organization has its own way of functioning and so would be its process. So if someone who is well versed with all the nuances of those processes can be called a BPX.
The area where a BPX would differ from a Functional Consultant is that a functional consultant is more aware of the industry standards but less informed about the Business Process. So ideally someone who has worked with a particular Organization or has been using a particular process day in and out would eventually become a BPX. From an "Old" SAP point of view he could be either technical, functional or Techno-functional.
Further mentioning more details, I would like to suggest few links which will explain you everything.

Javascript For loop not working within a function

Hi all,
I'm a beginner to LiveCycle and I cant seem to get a loop working within a function. The function is being called successfully because when I manually create the code it works but I am trying to clean things up.
So here is my working example:

 MainFlowedSub.LevelsSub.Table2.presence = "hidden";
 ... and so on....
 MainFlowedSub.LevelsSub.Table8.Row1.presence = "hidden";
 MainFlowedSub.LevelsSub.Table8.Row2.presence = "hidden";
 ... and so on....
However when I try and creat a loop instead of listing every sing table/row nothing happens. this is important to my project as there will be alot of different rows depending on radio button selections earlier in the form. Below is the current state of my code:

It's a new machine - and the Thunderbolt Display is meant to work with it. You need to just make an appointment at your local Apple Store and have them fix whatever is wrong.
If you like, you could always try a SMC reset and a PRAM/NVRAM reset to see if either of those will get your keyboard back in working order...

I recently purchased some scripts and saved them as actions but wont work with assigned function key

i could use some help ....i recently purchased some scripts to help automate things i do with scrapbooking.... i am using cs4 and have vista...i have made actions to make it easy to use the scripts.... i have assigned function keys to make it easy to use the actions... but it doesnt seem to work with the function keys...i can run the actions by pressing that arrow/button on the bottom of the action palette but when i hit the f key nothing happens..when i first got the scripts it did work.... but now it doesnt....i deleted the actions and made them again but still dont work with f keys...what could be the problem and what do you suggest i do...others who have purchased these same actions seem to be able to use them with the f keys.... thanks for any thoughts and suggestions

think i may have solved it myself and passing this dum thing along....on my keyboard is flock...i mustve hit it and the keys were locked...so i hit it and now they work.... oh dear.

Role of SAP Functional & Basis Consultant for any new authoirzation/user ID in Support Phase

Please let us know what is standard /best practice for below activities in SAP Support phase?
Who will responsible for Authorization Matrix?
Who will be first point of contact (Functional / Basis Consultant) to SAP user for any new authorization request?
Who will do the testing & impact analysis of new authorization?
If we provide any new SAP transaction code to the end user & user is facing authorization object issue then who will be first point of contact for user Functional / Basis Consultant?
Also who will be fist point of contact (Functional / Basis Consultant) for new User ID creation request?
In our current practice Functional consultant is dealing with end user. He is taking requirement of new Report/Transaction access request & doing analysis. Then he is taking approval from BPO & based on BPO approval Functional consultant is providing training to end user. When end user is accepted requested report requirement in standard report or transaction data process then Functional consultant is sending request to Basis consultant along with authorization parameters like Role, Organization parameters, type of activity (create/change/display/delete) etc.
Our Basis consultant is not agreeing for this process & he want to directly deal with end user for all activities & he will take help of Functional consultant if required.
Sorry friends this is not technical discussion but it is create big dispute between our internal support team regarding who will be first point of contact for any authorization related issue?

Authorization Matrix that define "what position may have access to which authorization/ role" shall be developed by User (Management), with support from BASIS. User is the one who have the authority to decide, while BASIS should help User in understanding the technical knowledge of access authorization.

Hi,
Messages related to ALE / EDI / IDOC are defined in transaction WE47. You cannot change description of these message. Yes, you can change "Qualification" of the message but it is not recommended. Qualification affect further idoc processing.

EDI Subsystems vs XI - functional differences

I have seen from posts in this forum and other resources that it is possible to use XI as an EDI subsystem (please correct me if that is incorrect). However, what I would like to know is what functionality is missing if you do that.
Also, I thought that it was the responsibility of the EDI subsystem to update the status of the IDocs as appropriate. If true, does XI also do the same thing?

I have been working with IDocs for a few years now, and from what I understand, it is the responsibility of the EDI subsystem to update the status section of the IDoc (the EDIDS status record); you know, status such as
18 - Triggering EDI subsystem OK
22 - Dispatch OK acknowledgement still due.
So does XI actually update the IDocs with this status information?
The point is: if I use XI as an EDI subsystem, and it doesn't do that, I cannot tell what has happened to the IDoc when I use the R/3 reporting tools to check the status of all the IDocs.
I know that XI has its own message monitoring built in, but I still haven't had a clear answer regarding updating of IDoc status per se.

With problems like this you have to query even your base assumptions.
request.getParameter() is returning null.
There could be any number of reasons for this - no parameters passed, parameter mis-spelled etc etc
So back to basics
1 - in your servlet print out all the parameters and their values
Map params = request.getParameterMap();
for(Iterator it = params.entrySet().iterator(); it.hasNext(); ){
    Map.Entry me = (Map.Entry)it.next();
    String param = (String)me.getKey();
    String[] values = (String[]) me.getValue();
    System.out.println(param + " = " + values[0]);
}That will show you all the parameters getting to your servlet.
If there are no parameters, check how you are invoking the servlet. Via a url or a form submission?
If there ARE parameters, is the one you want there? Is it misspelled?
Its not working, so something, somewhere is wrong.
This is the first step in finding out.

LaserJet software/driver issues. Print and Scan Doctor doesn't work on scanning function of MFP.

Upon using the diagnostic utility HPPSdr. exe, only the select an action "Fix Printing" shows up and not the "Fix Scanning" option. Our printer is the LaserJet 3050 connected via usb running under Windows Vista32 on a HP dv8408us laptop. The scanning driver is HP imaging 4.0.4.0. There have been numerous problems with this scanning software/driver package which have been well illustrated on the HP forums. An update is sorely needed. All that HP customers really expect when we buy a product is that we get the functionality that we paid for and that we get support for the software and hardware for a reasonable length of time, I think that 5-7 years after the final production date of the product, at least, is reasonable. In the case of the 3050, the scanning has never worked right since day 1 because the scans are too light with signatures and time stamps showing up poorly. With the pnp driver installed it it almost impossible to scan in receipts, etc. The communication software Toolbox FX is needed to use the scan button on the machine, and since there are so many problems with this package with respect to system resource usage and connectivity, we can't use it and we don't get the walk up use of the scan button that we paid for originally. As Microsoft has updated the Windows OS, HP has failed to keep pace and we lose functionality of our equipment over time. The diagnostic utilities have supposedly been updated several times and the scanning portion of the MFP still doesn't show. Surely the wide base of installation of this product could justify the expense of some engineering time for an update to the software and drivers. If HP hopes to turn itself around, a commitment needs to be made towards engineering products that really work in the environments that its customers use them, or else HP will merely be regarded as marketing company that is only concerned with selling the next thing without respect to customer retention.

     There have been problems with the software and drivers for the LaserJet MFP/AIO machines which have been well illustrated by many users on here for several years. What is shocking is the unwillingness of HP to address these issues at an engineering and design level. This is the level in your organization that these problems need to be addressed at, not at the marketing and customer service level. The software/driver package has never really worked right ever since the 3050 - 3392 series was introduced back in 2006. The scanning drivers in the pnp drivers don't work, and never have, because of frequent communication problems. Someone never bothered to check if a blue ink signature would scan. I and several others have reported on these issues. What I have discoverd, through much trial and error, is that the full software package upon installation with only basic drivers installed using the check boxes in the menu, actually installs differently than the pnp driver. Who would have thought this? So now the machine scans OK.
     My PC really appreciates not having the ToolboxFX installed. ToolBoxFX Error messages and crashes have been well documented on here. This is an application that puts an unnecessary drain on system resources. The only problem is that now the use of the Scan button on the machine is taken away so I don't get the walk up use of the scan button that we paid for in the original design. Why is the scan button function tied to the defective ToolboxFX software?
     As far as printing goes, after carefully deleting the original print drivers, I use the PCL 5 and PCL6 UPD drivers. They work a lot better than the original print drivers ever did. But what about scanning? The scan driver on the 3050 dates all the way back to 7 2007. Scanning is an integral part of the functioning of most offices nowadays, but it is an afterthought at HP. Why would a driver, software or diagnostic package only address half of the capabilities of a machine?
     When I went on the vacation recently, I tried to use my PCL 5 and PCL 6 drivers on my relatives 2009 OfficeJet 7310 and it wouldn't work at all. I had to spend 2 hours with multiple failed attempts to install the full 7310 package on my PC. Installation problems and repeated attempts are a constant theme with HP software. The very term Universal Print Driver is misleading because it won't work on many of the HP products out there. The product listing for the UPD, I only recently discovered on here, with help, because it was so buried on the UPD information page.
     The LaserJet 3050 at $300 from Staples wasn't the most expensive printer out there, but it wasn't the least either. It is actually a pretty nice piece of hardware. I have invested over $1,500 in marked up toner since I've had this machine. HP needs to do better for us.

How to work with Partner Function Categ. - Person Responsible vs. Employee

I have a question regarding partner processing (we are using Web Client UI):
Our customers are served by one Sales Rep. who is travelling and additionaly by an Account Manager who is working inhouse (he is assigned to & supporting up to 5 sales reps). In our R/3 System we are using two different z-(customer)partner roles - let's say SR and AM. When we create new customers and sales documents the AM is determined out of the assignment to the SR (SR has to be typed in by user). So the Sales Rep is the leading employee in the relationship to the customer, while the AM is the SAP power-user.
How should I use these Roles in CRM? Both employees have to be assigned to our Customer-BUPAs and to every sales document.
The first thought was using the CRM-partner-function 0012 Sales Rep.(category employee) for the SR and 0014 Employee Resp. (category person responsible) for AM.
My problem is that I don't know what the difference between the two partner function categories person responsible(0008) and employee(0005) is.
Because the SalesRep is the leading employee I think it would be better to use him as the responsible person? Another point is that the responsible person is available on all the Web Client Views on the first detail block and the other employees are only visible in the "parties involved" block. But the SalesRep doesn't use the system very often.
What do you think is the best way?

Input Help (F4) does not work for Planning Functions in Web

Hi Gurus,
I am working in BI-Integrated Planning.
When I execute a planning function from web layout (through Web Application Designer), the "Input Help" does not work. When I give F4 it takes me to the initial planning layout screen from the planning function variable screen without any action being performed.
But the "Input Help" works fine when I have to select for the variable from the initial selection to open the planning layout.
Can anyone suggest me any fix for this...
