  • Items in Tree control move around when data is submitted using custom ItemRenderer

    I'm working on a Tree control with an XMLListCollection as
    its dataProvider.
    The dataProvider has information looking like this :
    quote:
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
    <INFO>
    <FIELD label="STR_USER_NAME"
    type="text"
    value=""
    >
    </FIELD>
    <FIELD label="STR_USER_EMAIL"
    type="text"
    value=""
    >
    </FIELD>
    <FIELD label="STR_OPTIONAL"
    type="branch"
    value="0"
    >
    <FIELD label="STR_USER_ADDRESS"
    type="text"
    value=""
    >
    </FIELD>
    <FIELD label="STR_USER_POSTAL_CODE"
    type="text"
    value=""
    >
    </FIELD>
    </FIELD>
    </INFO>
    So in the Tree control I'd like the information to show up
    with a label and
    an
    editable textbox for each item :
    [Label] [textbox]
    To do this I made a tree like this :
    quote:
    <mx:Tree id="userTree"
    editable="true"
    rendererIsEditor="true"
    editorDataField="curVal"
    itemRenderer="{new ClassFactory(ItemRendererUser)}"
    itemEditEnd="e_ProcessData(event);"
    dataDescriptor="{new DataDescriptorUsers()}"
    showRoot="false"
    verticalScrollPolicy="{ScrollPolicy.AUTO}"
    />
    where the e_ProcessData() function looks like this (I used
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/201/html/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm?href=c
    elleditor_073_16.html#202105 as a guide) :
    quote:
    public function e_ProcessData(event:ListEvent):void
    event.preventDefault();
    userTree.editedItemRenderer.data.@value =
    ItemRendererUsers(event.currentTarget.itemEditorInstance).curVal;
    userTree.destroyItemEditor();
    userTree.dataProvider.notifyItemUpdate(userTree.editedItemRenderer);
    } // END OF e_ProcessData()
    I attached the rest of the files because they're a little
    bit longer.
    When I run the program, the data shows up fine when it is
    initialized the
    very
    first time, and I made a test button that just dumps the
    contents of the
    dataProvider in a trace statement to verify that the data has
    been set
    properly.
    The problem I've run into is whenever the textfield is
    edited, the item
    that
    I've selected jumps around the list.
    For example, if I edit the item "STR_USER_NAME" after I
    finish the edit, it
    will move from the very first position in the Tree to the
    bottom of the
    Tree.
    I traced the contents of the dataProvider and the
    dataProvider structure
    stays
    the same, with the "STR_USER_NAME" at the top, but if I look
    at the flex app
    in
    the web browser, its position is at the bottom of the Tree.
    This happens for every other item I try to edit... I read in
    the
    documentation
    that the ItemRenderers are recycled, so it means I should be
    checking to
    make
    sure the initial states are covered, but I'm not sure how
    this affects my
    application.
    Can anyone help me out with this ? Its very confusing - I've
    tried making
    an
    ItemRenderer using pure actionscript, mxml and the
    combination you see in
    this
    example and I always end up with the same behaviour - So I
    must be missing
    something critical...
    // ItemRendererUsers.mxml
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:Canvas xmlns:mx="
    http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
    verticalScrollPolicy="{ScrollPolicy.OFF}"
    horizontalScrollPolicy="{ScrollPolicy.OFF}"
    creationComplete="initItemRendererUsers();"

    From my FAQ:
    Q: I've created a custom itemRenderer component to use in a
    List
    based component (Datagrid, TileList, HorizontalList, etc.).
    When my List
    first displays, everything looks fine, but when I scroll it
    or change the
    dataProvider, some of the itemRenderers show values or
    formatting that
    aren't right. How do I fix this?
    A: List-based components don't draw a renderer for every item
    in the
    dataProvider. Instead, they create enough to display what is
    on screen now,
    plus one or two more waiting in the wings. This means they
    recycle the
    renderers rather than creating new ones when you change
    dataProvider or
    scroll up and down. When you use a creationComplete event to
    set up the
    itemRenderer, that event doesn't happen again when the
    renderer is used for
    a different set of data. The solution to this is to override
    the set data
    protected function that most components have.

    Your set data needs to set a flag that gets picked up in
    commitProperties()
    and does your thing that you were doing before in
    creationComplete. You
    should see examples of this in the links I posted. Instead of
    this:
    _data.@value = inputText.text;
    you should look at implementing IDropInListItemRenderer,
    which will allow
    you to dynamically determine which field to look at, instead
    of hardcoding
    it. You also might wind up overwriting the stored value with
    a null value
    when the List passes the stored value in. I'd encourage you
    to really go
    through those links I posted and make sure you understand
    what they're
    saying. The itemRenderer life cycle is one of the hardest
    things to
    understand, but once you understand it, it makes many things
    in Flex much
    easier. It's worth investing the time.

  • Tree control - How to get the full path of selected Item in tree control

    I am Flex newbie. When the user clicks the particular item in
    the tree control I just wanted to get it name along with it's full

    Here is my XML
    var dirXML:XML=<root basename="/home/tcegrid">

    <Dir Name="FineTurbo"/>
    <Directories>
    </root>
    The above XML is data provider for Tree control. When the
    user clicks the Dir Name called opt. I wanted it absolute path in
    XML. say Directories.Dir.Dir.@Name is opt
    Can any one tell me how to get this?

  • Issue : drag and drop from list control to tree control

    Hi,
    I was trying a drag and drop from list control to tree control. I have used some sample data to populate list and tree controls .
    It is working fine . except one problem ..
    Prob : when i drag an item to tree control .. it gets added .. now tree contains (X+1) data in list .. say X is the inital number of nodes in a tree node.
              now if i drag another item from list to last item in the tree node  .. i.e at X+1 index. .. it throws null pointer exception.
    I am considerably new in flex programming . looking for help from experts ..

  • Can I edit the data already displayed in tree control?

    I'm using a tree control to display some data in front panel. But after running the program, can I edit the data already displayed in tree control by using input control and let it change and display dynamically? In invoke nodes I can only find add or delete items in tree but can't find edit...

    There is no direct editing option available, same can be achieved in two steps by using
    --> Add Item Invoke Node
    --> Delete Item Invoke Node

  • How to highlight all child items in a tree control?

    I have a tree control and a boolean button. I want to use the button to select all (highlight) the child items in the tree control. I've seen CVI functions where you can set the active items, but such a function/method does not appear in LabVIEW.
    Any clues?

    Hi settles,
    Once you have all the children, you just need to set the value of the tree control to be an array of all the child tags.  Here's a screenshot of a VI that does this:
    First I get all the tags, then I get the parent of each tag.  If the parent is a non-empty string, I add it to an array.  Then I write that array value to a local variable of the tree control.  Let me know if you have any questions on this method.  I believe the "All Tags" property I'm using was added in LabVIEW 8.0.

  • How to get all items under a parent item in a tree control

    Hello,
    I have 2 questions regarding a tree control:
    1) Is there any way to specify a parent item tag and get an array of ALL its sub item tags? For example, in the attached vi, specify the Parent#2 parent tag and get an array containing Item#P21 and Item#P22
    2) Is there a way to specify a range to the ActiveCell property. For example, all items from line#1 to line number#3
    Any ideas?

     Did you try a search? There's no direct way of doing this. You have to navigate the tree and build up an array. You can find an example here: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/get-all-children-of-a-parent-in-tree/td-p/729548
    2) Is there a way to specify a range to the ActiveCell property. For example, all items from line#1 to line number#3
    No. (It's called ActiveCell, not ActiveCells) Presumably you are trying to perform an operation on multiple items. Unfortunately, you need to use a loop. You should defer panel updates if you're doing this a lot.

  • How can I drag and drop an item from one Tree control to another in LabVIEW 7.1?

    You can use the mouse up and down event on the two tree controls but the problem is making the correct selection in the second tree control. I want to be able to switch over to the selection bar of the second tree control so that I can place my item in the correct position. I know all possible workarounds with double-clicks and so on... but I really want a windows drag and drop.
    This is what I have for the moment. Please check the library below. I need to activate the selection bar of the second tree control somehow to get the position in the control. The VI below is written in LV 7.1

    Hi Jones,
    As far as I know this feature is currently not supported by the Tree control. A workaround, would be to use the vertical position of the mouse in the button up event to determine what line youre dropping the item.
    If you would like the Tree control to include the drag and drop feature, please submit this as a Product Suggestion under the feedback at www.ni.com/contact.
    Good luck!

  • Tree control tip strip for each item

    In tree control is possible set a Tip strip for each item (node) of tree?
    In tree control  tipStrip property seems relative to all tree.
    Thanks all.

    The only thing I can think of is to use an event structure
    use a mouse move event
    Get Cords
    Calculate what item the mouse is over
    Use a Tips property node to write the correct string.
    The hard part will be calculating what item the mouse is over, The Displayed Items property node should help.
    I am actively working on a program that is centered around a tree control and might like to do the same.

  • Tree control: How to disable the selection of a child item

    Hello everyone,
    Im having trouble with disabling the selection of a child item in a tree control. I dont know if its possible but havent found any answers on this forum regarding this issue.
    Example:
    Parent tag 1
        child item 1
        child item 2
    Parent tag 2
        child item a
        child item b
    What i would like to do is being able to select the parent tags but not the child items, because i use the name of the selected item in my program to determine which actions are allowed and those that are not. To avoid this problem i look at the first 4 letters of the name and this way i can determine if it is a parent tag or child item and take appropriate action. Im able to do this because the parent tags have fixed names. But even though nothing happens in software if i select a child item it still lights up, so for the user of the program it looks as if the child items is selected but the program doesnt do anything(because i made it that way). Thats why i want to be able to disable the selection of the child item or at least make the selection colour of the child item transparant so it doesnt look like it is selected.
    Can anyone help me with this problem, if there are parts of my question you dont understand, just ask.

    Ynse.

    Muks,
    your last image disables the whole tree.
    To programmatically disables an item use ActiveItem.Disabled? property.
    Unfortunately this only has two states, Enabled and disabled (thus grayed).

  • Flex Using Tree Control in item renderer(Url Navigate)?

    HI All.,
                Iam Using flex 3 using tree control in item renderer to click haschildren label to be navigate url is possible ?.
    Any one help me.....
    Thanks in Advance......

    You can do this by writing the item's tag to the ActiveItemTag property, the column number you're intersted in to the ActiveColNum property and reading the Cell String Property.

  • Edit Items for Enum and/or Ring control yields weird dialog

    HAHA!!  That would be awesome eh?
    Fact of the matter is I don't know what contributed to it.  I do have a couple ideas though:
    I opened a VI that was created on an older version of LabVIEW (don't know which version).  The VI contained some enums and I tried editing those.  I think that could have messed it up.
    The other option is that I downloaded the entire OpenG library to play around with some of their VIs.
    This happened shortly after one of these two incidents.
    I have a huge deadline to meet next week but after that I'll give it a whirl and let you know how it goes.

  • Tree Control Highlighting Programmatically Selected Item

    Does anyone know whether it is possible to highlight a programmatically selected item in the LV Tree Control, eg I have used the "Get Child" method to select an item - how do I then highlight this item on the tree?

    Yes, you can write the value to a local variable for the tree control. This will have the effect of selecting the item--which will highlight just ike the user clicked on it.
    By the way, "Get Child" doesn't select an item in any sort of useful sense--it just tells you what the child is. Actually, it tells you what the first child under the indicated Parent is.

  • How to handle events occuring on different items in a tree control

    I am developing a small application in which I need to display different panels when user clicks on a tree control item....how to make it display a panel inside a parent panel when a user clicks an item in a tree control....any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you
    If you are young work to Learn, not to earn.

    The tree control can handle several events that you can rely on to handle user interaction. I suggest you take a llok at treeevent.prj example that comes with CVI. In your situation, one possible event to handle is EVENT_SELECTION_CHANGE, that marks the operation the user does when clicking on a new tree item.
    Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • LabVIEW 7 Tree Control - Selected Item

    Hi,
    Has anyone tried the new Tree control in LV7 yet? I can't seem to find a method to programatically determine what item in the tree has been selected by the user other than if the user has double clicked on the tree - can someone point me to the method? From a user interface perspective double clicking an item in a tree shouldn't be the only way to select an item and as a side effect double clicking on the LV7 tree item closes a branch if there are children under the node double clicked on, which is very undesirable when only selecting an item.
    Cheers,
    Wayne

    WPS,
    The tree control's data, which is available from its terminal, is the tag(s) of the selected item(s).
