Edited Flash Movie

FLASH NEWBIE...
I purchased a flash website template that I am editing.
Having no problems with the edit. However, when I test in my
preview on Dreamweaver, it shows the edited movie perfectly. When I
go to test it in my browser it shows the original movie version. I
attempted to go through the code line by line, only 21 lines thank
goodness, but must have missed something. Can anyone shed some
light on what I might be missing?

  • Import Flash Movies

About 18 months ago I started webcasting on services like Ustream.tv. I recorded an online flash movie and downloaded them to edit.
in 2009 I did about 200 hours like that and never really learned a good way to get flash converted to go into FCP. Best was Quicktime 7 with Perian, to H264. Each was a struggle and would have mild to severe audio sync problems, even working in 15 fps, which was the flash movie frame rate.
Then I got the 8 core machine and had enough processor to make a desktop Quicktime 7 recording, which still wasn't all that compatible with FCP. Then I would use the on-line flash movie only as a failsafe backup.
This morning (a really good session) and my Quicktime7 failed. I am back in the flash movie soup.
Can anyone give some guidance on compressing an flv for FCP?
Wow, would this be great to solve. Someone in this world must edit flash movies?
    Thanks
    Richard Miller

I have also taken Youtubes (downloaded with ImToo) and I have used Quicktime-7 with Perian to convert them.
Can it be that flash files can have different parameters, that aren't always friendly to conversion. The .flv that I point to above Plays well (in sync) on Blip.tv, but when downloaded both QT-7 and Mpeg=Streamclip make a hash out of it. I uploaded it also on my website, if anyone has some time to help me figure this one out.
    http://nevernothere.com/images/Unmani.flv
This should download easily and fast.
It is 14.93 frames per second.
    And thanks

  • Editable regions and Flash movie

    Hi,
I am trying to insert a flash movie into an editable region
of a child page, but I keep getting the following error: "Making
this change would require changing code that is locked by a
template or translator. The change will be discarded."
I have read previous posts about the same issue, but none of
them answers my question. I tried creating a new template and a
child from it as a test deleting the css links (like some one
suggested to do) to try to identify the troubled css and I kept
getting the same error in the new pages. I hope someone can help to
identify the issue and the solution. The region where I want to
insert the movie is called "FinalMainContent."
BTW, I do not know how to write code... Sorry!
Thanks, in advance, for any help you can provide!

  • Editing Buttons in an Old Flash Movie

    Hello,
I am trying to edit a Flash movie that was created several years ago (probably around 2002-2004ish), using ActionScript 1. It's a library map that shows Library of Congress subjects when you hover over the stacks buttons. Here is a link to show what I am talking about: http://lib.skidmore.edu/includes/files/SubjectMaps/subjectmap.swf
Click on the BY SHELF button to see the action I wish to edit.
What I would like to do now is, instead of just the hover-over feature, I'd like to make each shelf button link to a Library of Congress search in our catalog when you click on it. However, when I try to edit the buttons, they won't appear in the ActionScript window, and I get the message "Current selection cannot have actions applied to it." I've read several forum and web questions regarding this, but I'm not using ActionScript 3, and I can't figure out how to open the button up and add code to it. Is this possible?
I'd very much appreciate any help! :-)

That is not a question, but I will try to explain the proper way to code a button.
Select the button on the stage, then enter a name for it in the Properties panel where it says "<Instance name>"... one word, no spaces in it.  Let's say you name it "btn" (without quotes)
The button is now ready to have code assigned to it.
In the timeline create a layer that you will use for actionscript.  In the frame of that new layer that is the same frame number as the button, assign code to the button by selecting the frame in the actionscript layer and typing the following in the Actions panel...
    btn.onRelease = function(){
           trace("this button works");
Once you have that working, replace the trace with whatever functionality you intend to code for the button.
To get rid of any code that might be attached to the button that was already there, select the button on the stage while the actions panel is open and you should see any code attached to the button.  Attaching code to buttons is bad practice, so get rid of it and move it into the timeline in the timeline format.

  • Flash movie not displayed correctly in IE 8 on some Windows OS

    Has anyone seen this problem?
I'm using CS4 to export a basic flash movie with embed tags pre scripted...
And the issue is that on some OS systems using Vista or Windows 7 and IE 8 as a primary browser, it appears that IE 8 is not displaying the flash banner completely.... its CROPPING it off... This is very strange because the banner works fine in FireFox, IE7,Opera,Chrome but not I.E.8 on some OS systems...
If you google "Flash not displaying correctly in IE 8" you'll get alot of people with the same issues but no real definate fix...
Are there any suggestions as to what i could try?
Do i need different flash embed tags? Or is this a user issue?
Please Advise as soon as possible...
    Thanks

I'm sorry, i forgot to explain that I didn't upload the flash published html because it did and produced the exact same results.
The flash published still got cropped off on 1 vista os(I.E 8) running from a laptop and 1 windows 7(I.E. 8) latop os...
Its good to hear that you're able to see it clearly... however in my QA efforts, i've been asked to fix the issue or drop the flash banner all together.
I've tried every which way, i've even converted the embed tags (not uploaded by the way) to a js script and it STILL gets cropped of on 2 ie8 run OS systems...
And now i'm not sure what else to try on my end.
I'm currious if because this is an XML driven flash banner, this may be an issue? But it still doesn't explain why some people can see this in IE 8 as you can and others get a cropped banner like in my screen shot sample.
Again i invite everyone in the forum to take a look at the sample links, as i'd be curious to see who else is seeing this.
By the way "kglad" Thank you so much... please keep the suggestions coming... but everything you've suggested, i've tried.
This is very perplexing. Is this a setting issue? or is there some setting on the user side i'm not aware of? Either way, as usual... the flash developer is blamed so i must find a solution.

  • Problem: Flash movie plays on desktop, but not on website

Hi, I'm new to Flash but have successfully created a Flash Movie that works using Firefox and Safari on my (iMac) desktop, but not after I upload to my website.
I started with an flv video, imported it into an fla document along with a playback skin then published it creating an html file and two swf files. I've checked the html file, and it looks fine. The flv file is only 17MB and I've uploaded all 5 files to my site on:
    http://www.cantata.co.uk/temp2/minorswing.html
but all I seem to get is the control skin's "sending data" pole turning. The movie never arrives. I can get much bigger mpeg and wmv movies up on my screen very quickly.
Can anyone suggest what the problem may be? I'm running Snow Leopard on my Mac (OX 10.6.6). I've tried using different videos but nothing seems to work.
Here's the relevant html generated by Flash
    <div id="flashContent">
                <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="640" height="390" id="minorswing" align="middle">

Thanks - I don't know what as2 is. I'm using Flash CS5. When I import the flv movie file, I'm asked to choose a skin and then a window comes up to tell me that the address of the flv file with respect to the other files will be minorswing.flv by which I take it to mean that all the files need to be in the same level of folder (directory). All five are in the same folder on my Mac and in the same folder on my website. I can't see how I can influence the program in choosing a different structure or outputting different html in the Publish Settings or elsewhere.
I would have expected the relative structure of the files to be maintained between my desktop, where I can play the movie in my browsers, and the website, where I can't. I was surprised there was no "src" param name in the html, and I did try inserting one, but it made no difference, so I assumed the default for the html is to be in the same folder as the html and that the minorswing.swf file would contain information on the whereabouts of the flv file and the skin swf file.
Is there a way of reading or editing the swf files to include an absolute url?

  • Adding a "Digg this Story" button to a Flash movie?

Is there a way to add a live Digg submnit button/counter to a
Flash movie? Or can this only be done in HTML?

Or you could go into flash and add a layer, move it to the
top. On that layer make a rectangle with no fill. Select the
rectangle, and go to the info window. Make the rectangle go to 0,0
(top left) and change the size to the size of the movie. Now your
movie will have a border that you can control, edit, or add effects
to it. Make sure that you add a frame to that layer at the end of
the movie so that the border is on every frame.

  • FLASH MOVIE HELP

    Hi there,
I recently purchased a template with a built in flash movie.
I use DW CS3 version 9 and would like to know if it is possible to
edit the content? It holds some photos and text that I need to
    change.
    Thanks

If it's the flash you want to edit, you need Flash or Swish

  • Playing Flash Movie .swf files in iWeb

This is my second post. The first was about generally not being able to publish my website in iWeb in Argentina. Discovered it was due to the 12 kilobytes a second upload speed!
This query is about trying to get a flash movie with .swf extension to play on my homepage in iWeb
    www.edgold.co.uk
Ive made a flash movie on my girlfriends PC. Why? Because she has Flash installed.
Ive transferred it to my Mac and it plays with a programme I downloaded called SWF & FLV Player - no problem there. For the love of trying I cant get it to play.
Ive gone to 'Insert' in iWeb, clicked on Choose and selected the swf file. Ive put it in position on my homepage and published it. Then Ive opened the HTML page thats found in iDisk using TextEdit so that I can change the html to get the flash plug in to play it.
I found all the details on website by 'Vertical Moon'
    http://www.verticalmoon.com/tutorials/general/iweb/iweb.htm
Ive followed every step to the letter but where they seem to slip up is that the swf file isnt played by QuickTime. QuickTime on my Mac doesnt want to know! If it was played by QT then I'd have a chance to change the html from 'writeMovie1()' to writeflash1() but there is no sign of that code in the html file let alone having to change it in JavaScript.
At the end of the day Ive got an swf file (Flash) that I want to stiuck on the front page of my website to play over and over. Ive spent over 18 hours on this non-stop and its time I called it a day.
Please can someone tell me how to get iWeb to make friends with it!
Ive looked at lost of other sites about free Video code generating but none of them work!
    Cheers

(Im in Patagonia - documentary photographer...sorting a good site helps me secure sponsorship and future exhibition venues. Your help is appreciated!

Thanks for replying and the great info on getting a QuickTime to play automatically.
Please can you continue to help as Im having no luck.
I will write below briefly whats happening.
I made a QuickTime in iPhoto as was suggested. I dropped it into iWebs 'Media' button under the 'Movies' tab, in a folder. I then dropped the QT file onto my web home page. It shows with a control bar at the bottom of its window for playing it.
I published it OK. The live website shows the QuickTime movie BUT you have to click play to start it. So I then I opened the html file in iDisk in TextEdit.
    I tried and tried to find the html code for the QT Movie. I read and re-read the whole html file from top to bottom and found no sign of the QT Movie. Then I went to 'Edit' and 'Find' in TextEdit and typed Movie. It came up with a bit of code which says writeMovie1();
I guess that this means it is talking about THE movie in question but there is no more code to
do with 'true' or 'false'. If it said false Id change to true but writeMovie1(); just looks like this:
    <script type="text/javascript"><!--
    writeMovie1();
    --></script>
stuck almost at the bottom of the html file page.
Please help...remember Im using iWeb 06
Thanks...I hope Im close to solving this now. All I want is to play the QT automatically.

  • REPOST: Flash movie (.swf) getting clipped

    Hi,
At the website www.coastlifechurch.com there is a Flash movie
    on the front
page (top left of the eight squares). I made the basics of
    the Flash movie,
then emailed it to my client to put new pictures in. He
    assures me that he
left the movie at 200px x 200px. When it is inserted into the
    page (he has
done via DreamWeaver), the bottom right gets clipped by one
    or two pixels.
Even when I tested the movie setting the parameters to 150
    px, the movie
still gets clipped. When I view the movie directly in
    FireFox, it shows the
border all around the movie just as it should. (see
    www.coastlifechurch.com/flash/Get-to-know-us.swf)
Can anyone help me work this out?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

Yes, in order to do anything with regards to editing the Flash file you will need to have the fla file.

  • Flash movie interactive

    Hello,
I imported a Flash movie (created in 8, saved in 6 to work
with Captivate). It's a graphic of an engine with a list of engine
parts on the left. The student needs to drag the engine part name
to the engine part in the graphic. My question is: Does Captivate
allow for an imported Flash to be interactive?
The inverse of that question would be this question: If I
exported the entire Captivate project to Flash (it's about 5
slides), what is the latest edition of Flash that will work with
Captivate? I tried exporting the project to Flash 8 and got a
warning that the latest Macromedia version that works is 2004, but
I have since upgraded to Macromedia Studio.
I'm just looking for whatever scenario will allow my cool
Flash drag n' drop to be a part of this Captivate-created practice
    test.
    Thanks!

    Hi naimahav
Take a look at the following link and you be the judge as to
whether drag-n-drop can be used in a Captivate movie...

Captivate can be coaxed to work with Flash 8. Take a look at

  • Exporting from flash movies without quicktime

I used to convert flash movies in dv (for further editing in imovie or Final cut express). With the latest QT update this is not possible anymore (and a lot of my projects are unreadable...). Anyone knows an (possibly inexpensive) way to convert a .swf file in dv or something else digestible from QT or visualhub? (visualhub relyes on QT support for converting flash movies, so this is not doable...)
    Thanks in advance.

Buy a cheap external HD and install an older version of Tiger (and QuickTime) on it. Use http://perian.org and QuickTime Pro to make the conversion.
QuickTime 7.3.1 no longer supports Flash media formats.

  • Flash Movie Plays on All my Pages

So I have a flash header that plays (swf) but this swf file
loads on all my pages. I bought a template and have edited it close
to what I want but this is the last thing. I just want the flash
movie to play when visitors hit my index page. So I guess I will
have to edit the swf file and modify it to erase all the frames and
just keep the static header with the pictures and links?
Please, any help would be help. Thx.

  • Export for flash-movie file conversion.

I want to prepare files for the highest quality possible for conversion to flash-movie files. I recorded in HDV- edited in HDV- send to Color in HDV- and now my question is if I should send it to FCP from Color in 10 bit-uncompressed to keep the highest quality?
Also at the end exporting from FCP- should I change my sequence settings? Again I need the very highest quality for later conversion to a flash-movie file, and was told that uncompressed is the way to go??
    Any thoughts on this?
    Thanks- Adam.

"Keeping" the quality isn't really the issue-- if you're working in HDV, there's nothing to gain by going to Uncompressed, because you weren't working in Uncompressed in the first place. The exception to this is color grading and graphics: ideally, you would be working in a higher quality sequence such as ProRes (Uncompressed is probably overkill) in both FCP and Color.
Of course, I can't honestly say that any of this will make a difference in a Flash movie-- Flash is for web delivery, and to bring it down to a bitrate suitable for the web, you'll likely lose anything you might have gained from this process.
