Editing a slide DURING presentation

Hello,
I am wondering whether editing a slide while presenting it on the second monitor is possible.
This would be great for brainstorming ideas (eg. fill a table with ideas on several issues, according to the audience's feedback).
I tired several times, but it didn't work. Sure Live Quartz technology is powerful enough to do so... so is this feature available ? Is it planned ?

No, you can't edit a slide while it's being displayed, but there are applications that allow you to draw over the slide (those drawings can't be saved in any way other than a screenshot, though*). I think it can be done, but Keynote is more of a straightforward presentation tool than a brainstorming app, so I wouldn't imagine that this is on the list of "things to do".
But, you can always send feedback to Apple
http://www.apple.com/feedback/keynote.html
*speaking of screenshot, if you change the format of the file being captured to PDF, would that separate the image into layers allowing you to see the foreground images OVER the background or is it all flattened into a bitmap?

  • How can I edit a table during a presentation?

I'd like to use Keynote for a "game show" style activity at my school.  I created a presentation in Keynote that contains one slide with a large table.  During the presentation I would like to edit the contents of some of the table cells without going into edit mode and staying in the presentation slide show mode. I would like to click or double-click on a table cell and edit the text in the cell right on the slide during the presentation.

This is not possible in Keynote.
Keynote must be in edit mode, not play mode to add data to a table.
Adobe Flash Professional can do this but is not the easiest to learn how to use.
    Adobe products
A work around using Keynote is to blank (black screen) the projector or colour display, enter the new data in edit mode then restart Keynote then unblank the projector again.

  • "choppy"  slide transition during presentation

Whenever the slides in my presentation contain charts or graphs, the transition to that slide becomes "choppy" and slow. I press the spacebar to go to the next slide and it lags for about 10 seconds before going to that slide with graphs. Other times, when I use more dramatic transitions, it simply becomes "choppy". Why does it hang during presentation, and how can i fix it?
    *NEED HELP PLEASE*
    +Many Thanks+.

Ok, try copying passing the chart through preview to change it from something that needs to be calculated on the fly to something that is JUST a chart. (First, be sure to save off your original presentation so that if you need to change some values, you can do that easily).
With this backup presentation, select the chart, Copy, Open Preview, Do Command-N, Copy, then paste back into Keynote over the other chart. Delete the original chart and then try the presentation like that. If it works better, then just keep that as a separate "presenting" document, making updates as needed from your original.

  • Supress animation during presentation when going to a certain slide

Sometimes during a presentation I am asked to show a certain slide and I would like to go to that slide without going through all the animation again but just show the slide in its final stage. Anyone know how to do this?

Keynote is not as clean as PPT for jumping straight to a slide during a presentation. But, you can quickly cut through any animations by holding down the Option key and pressing any of the advance keys (arrows, brackets, etc.) While in a presentation, press the slash key to see a cheat sheet of other shortcuts. The option key trick isn't listed there, but the slide switcher keys show a crude way of quickly jumping around the presentation.

  • Personalized Template, can't edit added slides, only edit master slide

    Hello Keynote Geeks!
I am counting on your expertise to help me with this challenge.
    This is what happened:
    1) I had a design company to create a personalized presentation template for my production company.
    2) Whenever I try to use this template Keynote keeps insisting on only allowing me to edit master slides. Even after I added them to the presentation. This creates a dumb workflow in which I have to be duplicating master slides, editing them in the edit master slide menu and then adding them back to my presentation.
I recorded a 2 minutes screen flow video demonstrating the issue. Please watch it on this Vimeo link:
    https://vimeo.com/124934712
I will be incredibly thankful to anyone that gives me a smart solution to optimize our presentation edit workflow.
    Cheers from Brazil,
    JP Jacobsen

A "geek" means a clumsy fool, I would never call anyone this.
You are not using the correct method to edit items on a slide. Double clicking an object on a slide that is on the slide master allows editing the master object, it does not allow editing the object on the slide.
    The correct procedure is:
add a new silide based on a slide master of your choise
to add a photo to the slide;   use a Finder window to drag and drop a file onto the image place holder
to add new text to a slide; click on the text placeholder once, then type in the new text
This assumes the master slide was created correctly by using media and text Placeholders.
To add a text placeholder to a master slide: add a text box to the master then change the font, size and colour
select the text box then:     Format > Advanced > Define as text placeholder
To add a Media Placeholder to a master slide: drag and drop any image file of the correct format (vertical or horizontal) on to the master
select the photo then:     Format > Advanced > Define as Media placeholder
close the master slide by clicking the blue Done button bottom right

  • How to mimic a two-projector slide-show presentation?

This may not be the best place to post this question. Please let me know if there is an alternative forum.
I want to present a few hundred 1920 x 1080 visual "segments" (S1, S2 ...) that cross-fade into each other at the press of a button. No audio is involved except the presenter's voice. A presentation might run like this:
S1 - Still. (Press button to dissolve to next segment)
S2 - Still with preset zoom-in. (Press button to dissolve to next segment, even if zoom not finished)
S3 - Still with pan. (Press button to dissolve to next segment, even if pan not finished)
    S4 - Short video. (Press button…)
    S5 - Still. (Press button…)
The collection of segments would be generated by Premiere (or other program). However, I would prefer NOT to use a computer for the presentation, but rather, a BluRay player connected to a digital projector via a HDMI cable. The data does not have to be in BluRay format. It may, for example, be any type of file readable by the player, and stored on a CD, DVD, USB stick, or SDHX card. The idea is to insert the media with the relevant file on it (or files), press PLAY, and use one of the remote control buttons to move forward to the next segment.
In case you haven't got my drift: it's similar to an old fashioned two-projector slide-show presentation, but fully digital and some of the images move.
Very simple concept, but how can I achieve the desired result? Almost all image-editing programs could assemble the segments (even iPhoto, for example), but how do I achieve the smooth cross-fading and the move-to-next-segment functions? If I was writing a flowchart for what I want, it would be:
    1. Complete the segment currently showing, then freeze image and wait for press of NEXT SEGMENT button.
    2. If NEXT SEGMENT button is pressed before the end of segment, cross-fade to next segment.
    3. Loop to 1.
    Any suggestions most appreciated.

I would look into ProShow Producer. It is designed to do much of what you want.
Encore has a limited SlideShow feature, that does allow for manual advance, but the other aspects, like the Zoom will probably not be what you want. You might give it a try, just to test. One limitation is that one can only have 99 slides per SlideShow, but then can have 99 SlideShows, IIRC.
    Good luck,

  • URL-linked slides in presenter view?

I have created some Keynote slides that contain Web View insertions -- shots of live Web pages. I want to click on these in my Keynote presentation using a projector. But I have not figured out how to do this. The two-slide view I have as a presenter on my PowerBook allows me to scroll over each of those two slides, but I have to scroll to the projected slide on the big screen to get a live pointer that I can then click to engage my browser to open that Web site. But the screen is BEHIND ME during the presentation. What am I doing wrong? Why can't Keynote give me the ability to be able to click on slides in presenter view so I can open those live Web sites from there? Help ...
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Thanks, Gary. I also have ended up mirroring the display in order to have hyperlinks available. The problem with that, however, is that one forfeits the advantages of the many tools that are built into the presentation mode.
Most significantly, when mirroring displays I can not see the note secton. When lecturing, it would be very helpful to be able to refer to details that I want to use for embellishment, but that I do not want to include in the slides themselves. I would also like to use notes to remind me to put a particular question to the class.
Also significant is not being able to view the upcoming slide/bullet, nor the clock, which would make it much easier to keep things flowing smoothly and at the right pace.
I really hope Apple makes hyperlinks active in presenter view in the next update. It's hard to understand why it's not the case currently.

  • Determining audio files and corresponding slide # in Presenter

It is a big challenge to edit audio files.  Presenter does not sequentially number audio files, they appear to be random.  Which means you have to hunt and peck to find the correct audio file to edit for the appropriate slide.  Any fix for this?

    See, now we're getting somewhere!
When I wrote that line about having corresponding audio files after publishing (ex: a24x[some number].mp3), I was referencing the .mp3 files you get as a result of publishing the PPT deck using the Presenter plug in.
    However, as you wrote:
"...Each of these mp3 files also has a corresponding *.lthmb file (for example 1088225537.mp3 has 1088225537.lthmb)..."
what you're looking at is the folder that Presenter creates the moment you start incorporating audio using the recording feature that Presenter offers (the same would be true if you imported audio files using Presenter as well.)  And, as you have found out, trying to get a handle on which audio file goes w/ a particular slide is horrendous at best.
Okay, may I suggest another tactic?
Let's try this: Publish the PPT deck you have.  What you'll end up with is a set of files and folders, but I want you to look for the data folder that's created as a result of the publishing process. (Unless you specify where you're publishing to, Presenter will publish to a directory called "My Adobe Presentations" by default, so you may have to look there on your harddrive)  Inside the data folder will be a list of mp3 files, which, if everything goes smoothly, should make it much, much easier to see which audio is used by a specific slide.
Here's what I mean: for example, after publishing, I have a data folder and inside I found the following file: a24x9x3.mp3  As I double click the mp3 file (which causes it to play using Windows Media on my laptop), I can hear that it corresponds to my slide 9 in my PPT deck.  And there's corresponding mp3 files for each and every slide I have in my deck.  I'm clicking another file (wouldn't it be nice to see what I'm doing???) a24x20x3.mp3, and that file corresponds to my slide 20 content in PowerPoint.
So again, give publishing in PowerPoint a shot and see if that makes it any easier.  Well...not nearly as easy as recording in Audition/Soundbooth/Audacity, but it's close enough to hopefully dig you out of that hole you're in now.

  • Slider: PDF presentations

    UPDATE
Slider has been reborn (8 Apr 2013).  I've continued the discussion in this thread starting here.  Note that all discussion up to that point likely no longer applies to what is currently on github.
Slider is a PDF presentation / slideshow tool much like Impressive.  (PKGBUILD)
This was very much inspired by impressive.  I liked how that app worked, but I thought it could use some optimizing and customizing.  I briefly looked at it's code, but I am absolutely horrible with python, so I started from scratch with Slider.
Right now Slider has most of the features I liked in Impressive plus some of it's own:
    1) I shows fullscreen slide shows from pdfs
    2) It has an overview screen (aka slide sorter)
    3) Slider has customizable (through config.h and recompile) key bindings and can be fully controled by either the keyboard or just a mouse (or both of course)
    4) Customizable colored "pens" allow you to draw on your slides (with the mouse)
    5) Zoom mode to zoom in on any part of a slide.
    Slider will have added features:
    1) an ability to play embeded media and run embedded script commands within the pdf. (edit: done)
    2) a "presentation mode" where the slides are shown on one external display and notes will show on the local screen. (edit: done)
    Current limitation(s):
    1) There are no "transitions".  There likely never will be. (edit: simple fade transitions have been added)
    2) The mouse cursor is not hidden or customizable.  This is next on my todo list.
    3) General "beta" state.  Use at your own risk.
    4) No man page nor built in help system yet.  Controls are documented in the README for now.  A man page will be created once slider reaches a suitable stability for a versioned "release".  Options for slipper are documented in the sample slipper.dat file.
Git it here or from the AUR.
edit: for those keeping score:  Impressive - 4342 lines of python vs. Slider - 460 860 lines of C.  Who said scripting languages made things simpler!  This is said in a friendly spirit of competition, not as a rip on Impressive.  It was that app after all that inspired me to mimic it.
edit (2012-08-30) Note: Slider assumes that all pages of the document are the same size as the first page.  Generally this is safe, but in documents with a prepended cover page it may not be - In my tests this seems to apply to older journal articles retreived from JSTOR.

Trilby wrote:Question: do you want to fill in the forums as a demonstration, or do you also want to be able to save the filled in forms with the new data added to the pdf?  The later would not happen (sorry), the former might have chance.
Ideal would be ability to save the forms with the data.
But the ability to fill them in on screen would be an incredible improvement over anything else I've found for Linux, excepting acroread.
I use these sorts of slides in class so in an ideal world, I type up people's answers to questions etc. and then save the result and post it on the web for the students.
But I can also tell them I'm not able to save what I type and they can take notes based on that, with me just putting up the slides on the web. The really crucial thing is being able to fill in the form fields on screen in class. I basically use this to make presentations more interactive and less passive - so it isn't always the case that the answer to the question is on the next slide. Sometimes the answer depends on the results of the students' discussing the question, for example. I also have a scratch slide at the end which I use if I want to type anything up in response to an unanticipated question.
As far as I know, PowerPoint and similar software doesn't have this capability but beamer *does* and whenever anybody tells me I should be using PowerPoint, I have an excellent answer for not doing so!
That isn't why I do it, of course. If it were the only reason to do it, it would not be an excellent answer. It is an excellent answer only because there really are sound pedagogical reasons for doing it - people often lament the "passivity" which presentation software induces in students. Some people create handouts with missing words to get students to pay attention to the slides but in many cases, it is much better to have incomplete slides. There's typically no right or wrong answer to interesting philosophical questions and I can't predict what people will say. Putting it in the presentation gives it a legitimacy and significance which it otherwise lacks.
    OK. I'll stop...
EDIT: Forgot to say that I really appreciate your even being prepared to consider this!
EDIT 2: I don't know if this makes it simpler or not but PDF forms have all kinds of different varieties - radio buttons, combo boxes etc. Apart from maybe once or twice, the only kind I ever use is a multiline text box. The kind that you make in beamer using something like:
    \TextField[charsize={10pt},multiline=true,height={10mm},width={100mm},name={eg3},bordercolor={1 1 1}]{\mbox{ }

  • Can you skip a slide during a video?

I work in radio sales and I am putting together a presentation that has music videos imbedded in it. After the video is over, the slide automatically advances to the next one. I want to be able to advance to the next slide during a video in case my client is in a hurry or has no interest in watching the video. I've tried using the keyboard shortcut [shift-down arrow] to advance the slide and skip the rest of the video while it's playing, but that doesn't work. Does anybody know if there is there a way to do this?

    Only as a movie file.
Select Album. File > New Slideshow
    Select Export on the bottom
    Select a size and export.

  • Pause on slide during slideshow

Can't figure out how to pause on a slide during a slideshow.  I've seen info about pushing the F key, but that doesn't work for me.  I want the show on 'Normal' so that I can create specific transition and 'holds.'  I tried the 'Self play' and don't understand the difference between a slide show that is all configured to play and loop vs. a 'Self play' one, but I didn't have many choices for timing in Self play, and the F was not working correctly.
    Could use advice.
    Thanks!
    Rob

My apologies, what my brain was thinking and what I sent are a little different.
    Let me start again.
Normal Play presentations advance manually by a mouse click or pressing the space bar, once the next slide has advanced, the presentation will pause. Therefore the presentation is paused after each slide appears. Normal Play presentations are set up in;   Inspector > Document; in the Presentation Type drop down menu; select Normal
Automatic Presentations advance automatically using the transitions, builds and timing set in the Inspector. This type of presentation can be paused using the F key  (freeze). Automatic Presentations are  set up in the Inspector > Document; in the  Presentation Type drop down menu select Normal.
in Inspector > Animate add the ffect then in the Start Transition drop down menu select; Automatically. Set the delay for how long the slide appears onscreen.
Self Playing presentations are used where an unattended presentation is set to run continuously without user intervention, this is called digital signage; examples are hotel receptions  and adverts in shopping malls. The F key is inactive in this setup so that the presentation is not stalled.
Self play is set up in Inspector > Document; change the  Presentation type drop down menu to: Self Playing.
The timing in a self play presentation is set up in Inspector > Animate; change the start transition drop down menu to Automatically and set the delay to the time you want the slide to appear on screen.

  • Keeping slides and presentations in sync

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here, or if this is just the way it is.  Right now, I can take a presentation, and publish those slides to the slide library, and that works fine.  The one thing I would like to do though, is have that presentation
realize the connection is has to the slide library.  Meaning, if I were to change a slide in the library, I would be prompted to update that slide in the presentation.  It doesn't look like this happens.
As a workaround, I can re-create the presentation using those same slides from the library, which works, but it seems like an unnecessary step.  Is that the only way to do it?  Anyone solve this a different way?
    Thanks!

    Hi Thom,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to sync the slide into SharePoint library instead of re-creating it when you changed it. Is it right?
When you edit a slide using Office client app, there is a sync button in the client application, click it, the changed will be synced to the slide in the SharePoint library. You can select a slide and right-click the name, then click Eidt in ‘Microsoft PowerPoint’,
it will open the silde with Office client. Then at the top of the client app, you will find the sync button, like the screenshot:
    I hope this helps.

  • Is there a way that I can see more than just the next slide in Presentation mode (as an old version of PowerPoint used to do)?

Is there a way that I can see more than just the next slide in Presentation mode (as an old version of PowerPoint used to do)?

Sorry - should have been more specific. As far as I can see, Keynote will only allow me to see the current slide and the next slide on my laptop when I am presenting a slideshow through a projector. But an old version of PowerPoint allowed me to show the current slide....and (adjustable) many more slides ahead (say 10)....so I could simply jump ahead to a 'future' slide and skip several slides in between. Net result being that I was able to matcgh my slides to group discussions rather than stick to a fixed, predetermined slide show.
As much as it pains me, without this facility - PowerPoint (old verson, not current one) is more useful for me! :-((

  • Simple way to use the Photo Gallery Module and flexslider to create an editable image slider?

I want to offer an image slider that my clients can easily update themselves through the Admin. Ive researched it alot and I know it can be done using web apps but does my cliently seriously need to pay over $400 a year for the webcommerce option just to have an updatable image slider?? I find that unrealistic. Does anyone know how to set this up using the photo gallery module and "flexslider" so clients on the business marketing plan can have access to a simple and clean editable image slider?
Any BC experts that can help would be greatly appreicated!
    Thankyou

Not an expert, but I think what you're looking for is a slider that can get its list of photos from an XML file.  The Photo Gallery module can produce an XML file.
